a friend and i came a few weeks ago to try it out since we always went for mediterranean or japanese style cuisines. the exterior is very unassuming and the inside appears clean. our server was a bit standoffish but was nice. he was also tending to the bar several feet away so i can't blame him for his absence the majority of our meal. my friend got the Bavarian Pretzel and the Honey Bacon Deviled Eggs (not pictured). the pretzel was the best part of the entire experience, it was so soft and salty and pairing it with pimento cheese was delicious! the deviled eggs had a mix of different mustards (according to the chef that came out) and it gave such a complex flavor that i didn't particularly care for them. the variety of meats i got in the platter weren't bad either. we also got one of their seasonal bread puddings that i can't quite recall the name of it - but it had apples and not much else going for it. the sauerkraut was the most disappointing - very watery and bland. i would likely only come back for the Bavarian Pretzel but i am really glad i finally stopped by to try it out. read more

Yesterday evening the spousal unit and I were at Brewhaus to enjoy an Oktoberfest meal. I unwrapped my silverware from the napkin and the fork had food remnants on it. Called the server over and was given a whole new set. Cool. We ordered an appetizer and the plate she brought for me also had food remnants. New plate brought. ...cool... The food was excellent. Then we asked for refills of our water. Glasses refilled. Something tastes off. SO tastes it and spits it out. She's pretty sure this is soda water. Call server over. New glasses, new water. Cool. Mistakes can happen. You never know when the B team is working. But my confidence in the food we had is markedly diminished. Always check the silverware and plates for cleanliness wherever you go. read more

Actually very surprised by this place. Screams every American vibe coming into this place. Menu seems very typical. Ordered the spicy braut and schnitzel. Fantastic done. The spicy braut was tasty but nothing to write home about. The schnitzel was the star of the show. Very thin. Well crisped. My family loves German food and we have high standards. Brewhaus was delicious! We had schnitzel, spaetzle, red cabbage, the hamburger and a pretzel for starters. The pretzel was really good along with the mustards and pimento cheese, a must get! The schnitzel (with mushroom gravy), spaetzle and red cabbage were all fantastic! The burger (my son ordered) was really good as well. It was char-grilled and the meat was very good. We decided to try to go on a Saturday evening and we were pleasantly surprised with being able to walk right in and sit on the outside deck. We were met with glasses of water and menus. We chose the Brewhaus sampler, adding pimento cheese and it was scrumptious. The kraut balls were a standout but really that's just by a bit because it was all delicious. Returned after a first visit two years ago. Still great, though this visit caught me not too long after a late lunch, so we didn't order a main. We got the appetizer sampler and four sides and shared it all. Pretzel is the star of the show. Don't bother with the pimento cheese add-on. It was melty in a weird way and warm. Kraut balls were good. The brat sliders were brat sliders. Nothing special. As before: the slaw and the cabbage were excellent. Grilled squash and zucchini were good also. Kinda pathetic. $45 for bad service, warm beer, and county fair food for two. Not as good as a Haufbrau Haus with is a good standard for German places. Alternatives nearby: - Basecamp has excellent food and good beers. - Frazier Five and Dime is excellent and actually upscale food for the same prices you pay here. - Cherry Street Brewing has good beer and the food is excellent. Good burgers and Pretzels with beer cheese Got the Schnitzel that was just deep fried pork which dried it out and was un-sauced and unimpressive and a unsubstantial for the price. Bartenders didn't come back on a very slow night so I could order mustard or gravy for the Schnitzel (only thing on the table was Heinz ketchup and mustard, which... who would use those at a German place?). Didn't have different mustards out at any table. $17 for the entree and $2 more if you want it dressed with gravy but they should never serve that plain. At $18 just go to Main Street Meats and get the best burger of your life. Why does it cost so much for mediocre fried food here? Cost about the same for whatever grocery store brat we got, which was at least served with mustard. That's not even what really bothered me. I bought a $7 beer to go with dinner because I'm eating German food and it was warm and flat. Didn't realize how insulting that was until I got home. I told the bartender before I paid for my unfinished beer and food and she just kinda went "huh", and said we'll check on that because you're not the first person to mention that. I'm not one to send food back or complain about the quality but this was supposed to be upscale and it was a huge let down. Wanted outdoor seating and a decent beer, figured this place would have a lighter Pilsner. Grabbed a pretzel to split and some spaetzle. Pretzel was dark/crisp on the outside and super soft and fresh on inside. Three good mustards to try, the spicey was tasty. The spaetzle was tasty with some good mushroom presence. Ended up here because the sushi restaurant next door had an hour wait so husband and I went in for some pre-dinner cocktails. While we did not eat here, this review is all about the amazing customer service at Brewhause. We walked in the door and were immediately greeted with a warm welcome. The servers were stumbling over themselves to take care of us. There were people at the bar who were eating these huge pretzels. The server described the food as "epic" so we will for sure be back. Came here during a recent visit to Chattanooga. Some friends are here the last time they were in town. I'm a fan of German cuisine so had to check it out. They have cool outside seating area but when it's still pretty hot out, we opted for a table inside. It's not very large inside. They do have a handful of picnic table/benches and booths available. Parking looked a bit limited out front. The service wasn't the greatest...it wasn't even good. It was just average. Our server wasn't the friendliest from start to end. Couldn't even get her to crack a smile. Didn't get the warm welcome here as we did at other eateries around town. That was a bummer. She brought out everything we ordered but everything was pretty transactional. Food was pretty tasty though...especially the sausage and pretzel. Actually, that pretzel was pretty solid. Good flavor and perfect bite too it. It was also pretty big exhibit made it easy to share. I liked the variety of mustards that came with it. I also liked the slaw, cabbage, and sauerkraut but some in our party was saying it was the cabbage and sauerkraut was too pickled. The spatzel was good. Portions are pretty generous and everything came out in a very reasonable time frame. Wish the service was welcoming and better. A fantastic and unique dining experience! You don't see German restaurants that often, so, especially considering the high food standards in Chattanooga, my wife and I had to try this one. I wound up having a sampling of much of their menu in their spätzle plate: two brats over spätzle, kraut, and potato cakes. It was delicious! My wife, who wasn't sure what to expect (having never eaten German food before) had their pimento cheese sandwich and was pleasantly surprised. Service was fast and friendly, and the restaurant was not too crowded or overwhelming (surprising, as it was a Friday night). Stopped in here after lunch and some shopping on the north shore in Chattanooga. We had eaten here years before and it was fantastic. This time we just stopped in for a cold beer which was also fantastic. Sat at the bar and had a great conversation with the sweet bartender. She has a masters in Chemistry! Wow. Please take a beat before you read this review. Ready? Ok. Question: What kind of bar makes a grown, clearly thirsty adult male wait 20 minutes standing at the bar, with no line, just staring at him, without asking for his order? Answer: The same kind of bar that makes the same still-quite-thirsty man wait another 20 minutes WITH AN EMPTY BEER STEIN without asking him if he'd like another. Look, I'm very generous with my reviews. I normally only write notes of glowing praise. But you need to know a little about this place. Do not walk in here if you want good service... You won't find it. They were not crowded when I visited; it was like 1:30pm on a Saturday -- not like it was the night crowd. There were at least three people behind the bar the whole time, yet every one of them seemed to be making an effort to avoid eye contact. When my amusement ended, I finally asked the oldest and most responsible-looking woman if they served beer in this place, she answered, blankly, "Yes." So, after essentially forcing them to serve me a beer, I finished it. Then it got weirder. I sat for another 20 minutes with an empty glass in plain view. Bone dry. Finally, I took a long shot: I saw the other responsible-looking woman walk by, and I said, "Excuse me, are you the manager?" She said yes. I said, "I thought you should know that I'm having an extremely difficult time getting served a beer in your bar." She laughed and laughed. "I'm so sorry," she said. "The bar is not my section today. What can I get you?" What? My inference: These people are not being paid enough to care. Or, they just pathologically don't care enough to try. As to the merits: it's a nice setting. That's it. Basically a balcony with a bar area. In addition to lacking service, you know what else they don't have? German beers. They have exactly two German beers-- 2 -- on tap. A Weihenstphaner Hefe, and a Rathaus Pilsner. Then, two more German bottles. That's all. So, what kind of "German-American brew pub" is this? In my experience, not much of one. I'm sure the food is fine. How bad can you possibly screw up a sausage and some sauerkraut? Wait ... I'd better not ask ... this staff might try to show me. read more

Authentic German Brewhaus on the North Shore. They have a view of the Walnut Street Bridge from the covered deck or outside patio. They have a small private parking lot right out front. I love good German food. If a town has a German restaurant, I try to check it out. Brewhaus is Chattanooga's more famous German places, maybe it's Chattanooga's only German restaurant? Since it's in downtown, it might be hard to find parking. There are some spaces outside, but it's a small lot. You would have to find street parking somewhere. The place looks small. But they have a decent patio. You can sit yourself when you come in. For being a German restaurant, they didn't have too many German beers on tap, and they seemed to rotate. They had more selections of German bottled beer though. They didn't have my favorite German beer on draft. But the one I had was pretty good. For the food, I tried the Veal Schnitzel art. For my sides, I chose the Potato salad and the Spatzel. The Veal Schnitzel was pretty good. It was 2 pieces, pounded and breaded. The breading was nice and crispy. The meat was tender and juicy. It was a good Schnitzel. The Spatzel came creamy. I'm not sure what was on it. It made it too heavy and creamy for me. The potato salad was good though. It had good chunks of bacon and potatoes. It was a lot of food. I was stuffed with just this 1 entree and 1/2 liter of beer. If you check in with yelp, you can get a free pretzel. I would've loved to try their pretzel, but I don't think I could've eaten it. The people there are cool, and the food is good. I suggest checking this place out to hang out or to eat some good German food. read more

I feel like if you're a starving things can go either one of two ways.. When you eat it could be absolutely orgasmic because you haven't eaten in a while and your body is craving anything. Or it could be totally terrible because maybe the last food dish you had was spectacular or you were holding out for the best of the best. Unfortunately my experience at Brewhaus was option number 2. We had driven a lot, hiked a good amount, and swam to cool off then our stomachs were ready for a killin'. A couple local friends said this was a must visit and at the first view of the menu I was stoked off my rocker. We all ordered different beers and got the free pretzel with Check-In! The beers were average and not worth it for such a high price but the pretzel was the best thing I had all not. So doughy and warm yet solid and crunchy in all the right places - Not to mention it was HUGE. I ordered, what I thought to be a big hot dog with cherries, potatoes and mixed veggies but came to the table as fried chicken(?) with dried cherries on top and the sides to match. It wasn't the worst thing in the world and most likely my fault for not understanding the menu correctly, but I could only eat half then switched back to my pretzel and finished off the night there. Definitely not worth the cost at all. Most expensive meal I had while in Tennessee and unfortunately also the most not worth it. The staff were extremely on the ball and there whenever we needed it which was awesome but almost to the point where it was a little overbearing and not too friendly. The parking was easy, location nice and centered the to town and the view of the bridge was cool, but all in all wouldn't totally recommend to other tourists. read more

Big fan. Came here once pre-pandemic while visiting Chattanooga, then again on a return trip a month ago. This time we sat out on the side/front patio with the dog. I had schnitzel with potato cakes and spaetzle, fiance had a brat with sauerkraut; all were spot-hitters, just what we needed after a day of hiking. That, plus a liter of hefe. Props to our server for bringing out cold water for the dog, and for coming out to check on us frequently despite us being the only people on the side patio. Much appreciated. read more
