It's a neat, casual space. The food is traditional German food, lots of bread and potatoes. I got the grilled pork with vegetable medley and brussel sprouts with the bacon marmalade. It wasn't very flavorful, which was disappointing. The pretzel was amazing- you must get it. The outside is crisp and the center is so fluffy. My sister got the schnitzel with the mushroom gravy. Brewhaus is a German-American gastro pub right on Frazier Avenue. It has all the German food you'd expect: pretzels, sausages, schnitzel, spaetzle, cabbage, potatoes, etc. Biggest surprise? It's vegetarian-friendly. They have a vegetarian sausage option (just a Tofurkey dog, but still...), and they have a vegetarian spaetzle plate. That's what I got, and it was delicious! Spaetzle with a mushroom cream sauce and veggies. They also have a good beer selection and several TVs (showing a soccer match when we ate there). So the portions are WAY too big. And we left FULL. But it was a fun place to grab a bite to eat. German food and good beer and TVs? Only way it could be better? If we'd brought a board game or cards with us! The beer was great! The food was sub par at best. Appetizers- deviled eggs with honey were good, kraut balls were ok. Entree- weiner schnitzle with the mushroom gravy was terrible. Had a grease flavor like they hadn't changed the oil out anytime recently. The veal was flavorless and looked gray. Sides- beir cabbage was cold but had a decent flavor, potato pancakes had yet the same dirty oil flavor. Go for beer. Go somewhere else if you want a good meal. read more

They always have a good variety of beers and the pretzel is probably one of my all time favorites. Service is friendly and prompt. "Oh I'm so tired and famished and thirsty from this .44 mile walk from one end of the bridge to another. Alas! What is this I see?! A haus of brews! Hallelujah! Lederhosen! Steiner! Gesundheit!" As you approach this place from the street and the parking lot, you feel like you're on the backside of a tool shed, and there are two doors to enter. I am not sure why there are two doors but one I think has a ramp.. Soo... Eenie... Meenie... Miney... Moe..... The inside is small but bright and super cute with a bit of a vaulted ceiling. There are about 8 taps that rotate beers, and there are a ton of tap handles stocked on shelves and whatnot. It's fun to look at them all. I guess they each get semi-regular use. CHECK-IN on Yelp because they have an offer!! One free Bavarian pretzel with three kinds of mustards. A horseradish, which is my favorite, a cherry ale, and a something else kind of ale mustard. They were all tasty. Then I opened the menu for the first time and - what the heck! - the Bavarian pretzel can also come with cheese dips. One is pimiento and the other is brie. Ohhh my my my! Both are delicious but I think the brie was my favorite. It stayed dippy a little longer, too. The Bavarian pretzel was pretty good. It was way different than other bar pretzels I've had before. It was even different from Atlanta's Biergarten (#zeeGermans) downtown. This pretzel was as if it were fried on the outside. On the inside it was normal pretzel. The bathroom was cute and clean, the tables inside were very pretty wood. There's a covered outdoor patio, but it doesn't really overlook the water, but instead the parking lot between the building and the water. Seems like a slightly-missed opportunity there. This Thursday afternoon was fairly slow, but our bartender was rad, helpful and fun. We watched tennis on TV. I'm kind of amazed I had to add this on Yelp after finding it was reviewed a ton on Urbanspoon...whatever, Chattanooga. For those of you who prefer Yelp, I am here to save the day. This place touts itself as a "German-American Gastropub." This is kind of...weird. It's MUCH more American than German, as you can see from the pimiento cheese all over the menu. The German beers are not very numerous. I wasn't drinking but my parents both had different beers that are from New Belgium...which is of course not even from another country so yeah. The service started off kind of cold. I don't know if maybe that was my fault because I was really tired, but we stood there waiting for awhile at the door before anyone told us that it's just sit where you'd like. And while we were waiting for my parents, we got drinks. The server asked the table that sat down a couple minutes before us if they wanted to order appetizers, then she came over to us and said "and do you guys want anything for an appetizer?" like we were with them...it bothered me. But once the whole group was there it got better. Three of us got spicy brats with various toppings and sides. For $8 you get 3 toppings from a list of traditional things to ridiculous (freakin' pimiento cheese) plus one of four sides. I got kraut, peppers, and cider mustard (like a hot mustard) on mine, with a side of German potato salad. The brats are served on a pretzel bun cut at an angle and they are kind of awkward to eat. My mom ended up cutting hers up at the end. Overall I had a really spicy brat. But it was excellent. They have 3 different mustards, two being beer related. My mom had the cherry ale one on hers, but I didn't try it or ask her how it was - it had been described as bittersweet, which to me is kind of an odd way to describe a mustard, but she liked it. The Spätzle was pretty good. It has mushrooms, so I didn't order it, but in the future I will. The mushroom slices were nice and big and sparse so it would be easy to eat around them. My dad had the Heidelberg patty melt...this one just baffled me, because I've been to Heidelberg and uh, did not see patty melts anywhere. It was a combination of ground beef and bratwurst making up the patty. He liked it but said he'd rather have just bratwurst next time. This is definitely a good outdoor eating spot. There's outdoor seating and then also somewhat enclosed seating on a patio, complete with heat lamps if needed. The seating inside is pretty minimal, so this might not be high up on my list of places to return until it's warm again. It's not a bad place, but if you are very familiar with German cuisine, you might be disappointed. You can definitely minimize your disappointment if you understand that authenticity is not really the goal here - it's more German *inspired* than anything, and it's about time someone opened something like that up around here. read more

Found a great little gem while on a road trip. My son and I were looking for something different and found Brewhaus. We tried the appetizer sampler which is not only great tasting but it's also a lot of food. We could have made a meal with just the appetizer and a couple beers but we decided to also try a couple different sandwiches. I know next to nothing about German cuisine, so I don't know if Brewhaus is at all "authentic", but it tastes good. I'm guessing it's the Noodles & Co. equivalent of German food, with all the pimento cheese and deep fried stuff that one would expect from a Chattanooga joint. I liked the kraut balls (sausage, cheese and sauerkraut encased in a deep fried cornmeal shell) and my schnitzel with mushroom gravy was perfectly satisfying. I especially enjoyed the plentiful fried potato cakes and beer cabbage that came on the side. I wasn't so crazy about my husband's Heidelberger patty, which was a blend of beef and bratwurst served on sourdough. The meat was flavorful but awfully dry. His side of spaetzle was far more enjoyable. My favorite things about Brewhaus are location and beer selection. I tried the draft IPA - yum. They appear to have several fine options on tap. While the space itself is small, it's rather cozy. And, they boast a large riverfront deck with jumbo heat lamps. It was perfect on a mild February evening. Bonus - they have a parking lot, too! That's a big deal on Frazier. Spaces are limited, so you may want to show up early. read more

Another place I have been multiple times in the past and never given it it's proper yelp recognition. The truth is, it's probably by most standards not a great place for kids because the theme is beer, but my 8 yr old loves it. He loves coming here after school for a giant pretzel, and it does give daddy the opportunity for a refreshing adult beverage. Food is good, a little heavy, gourmet bar food I would rate it. Decent beer selection. Horrible parking but for some reason I've never had an issue. One of the best chill porches over looking the river in Chatt. We were up from Atlanta for a short get-a-way. Based on Yelp reviews we had our sights set on another restaurant for lunch, but when we got to the other restaurant we found it was closed for a private party. So back to Yelp it was. I came across Brewhaus. Prices, reviews and photos looked good so we gave it a shot. It was a chilly, rainy morning so hearty comfort food sounded good. Brewhaus didn't disappoint. Our waitress was very welcoming and gregarious. My boyfriend and I were starving so we ordered the honey bacon deviled eggs as a starter and we got the complimentary pretzel with our Yelp check-in. The pretzel was huge. It came with three spicy mustards. I've never had a pretzel like this one. I'm not much of a bread person but it was very tasty. The deviled eggs were delicious! We ate them in about 2 seconds. The honey was unexpectedly amazing on them. I will definitely be making my deviled eggs with honey in the future. For our entrees, I ordered the spaetzle which came with two grilled brats and my choice of two side cars. I chose the home fries and the potato pancakes. The home fries were basically like thick cut french fries, only smaller. They were yummy nonetheless. I was so full after the spaetzle that I didn't get to the brats or the potato pancakes until the next day as leftovers. Delicious. The spaetzle itself was just the right amount of cream, mushrooms and pepper. It looked like they had a good beer selection but we were there for an early lunch after having been out the night before so we just opted for ice tea and diet coke on this visit. My boyfriend and I are pretty picky about restaurants. We come up to Chattanooga often enough that it's important for us to have a handful of restaurants in our pocket as go-to places. This will definitely be one of them. Though I can survive eating at most places, I prefer not to eat food that is just average or from a chain restaurant. Lecker! ...which according to Google is German for "Delicious!" Brewhaus was an amazing discovery! Living in Chattanooga is a foodie's dream. There are so many places to explore, culinary-wise, in this city. Sure, a lot of other cities get all the good press, but Chatt-town is on the rise and Brewhaus is one of the places helping to lead the way. Brewhaus is not a traditional German restaurant and that's quite alright. It takes old world recipies and specialties and gives them a modern, gastropub spin. The result is delicious meals everytime. For first timers, it can be easy to overlook Brewhaus. The restaurant has a very small footprint and is in essence one moderately sized room with a porch out back (giving off a beer garden feel). And there are only around 8 or so spaces out front off of Frazier Ave, but don't fret. They also have a small lot around back underneath the porch area. Once inside, diners sit at long bench style tables. The servers I've encountered are always pleasant, quick and attentive. And if you're not sure what to try, they always have great suggestions. The food is the star attraction. I've had the pleasure of trying some fantastic appetizers here. Even though the german style food is the main focus, they serve up some southern favorites too. I got to try their boiled peanuts. Absolutely tasty and just the right amount of salt and flavor. Other great appetizers include the Bavarian Pretzel, which was piping hot and came with a variety of mustards for dipping. I enjoyed the cherry ale mustard the most as it had an underlining sweetness to combat the sharp grain mustard. There are a wide variety of entrees' available. The King Ludwig was delicious! A pork schnitzel sandwich with bacon, Swiss cheese and kraut. It is a combination that just worked and will always be my go-to sandwich. Also enjoyable are their selection of brat plates! On my last visit, I chose the spicy brat and got bier cabbage, pickles and cider mustard. It's served on a pretzel bun and was absolutely delicious! Don't like my combination choice? No problem! They have over 15 toppings to choose from (you can pick 3) and 4 or 5 types of brats, with even a vegetarian option. Even though the menu looks small, it is actually very robust! They serve everything I've mentioned, but they also have a great selection of salads, soup and enough variety to cover every appetite. Be sure to check their website before heading out, as they like to change some items seasonally and also add new things to try. This is one of my favorite restaurants downtown now. It's in a great location with plenty of available parking. The food here is very good, although if you do not like mustard there will be fewer options for you. I had the deviled eggs appetizer which comes with thin slices of bacon on top and honey to dip them in. It was fantastic and something that I would not have thought of personally. I love deviled eggs to begin with but I really loved this. Make sure to check-in on your phone when you get here because they are offering a free pretzel if you do. It was your typical carnival pretzel but it comes with 3 seperate mustard sauces to try with it. After I had eaten both appetizers I was stuffed. I ordered the Spaetzel as my entree and it was fantastic. Overall this is a great place to come in and grab a beer while enjoying some great German/American food. The only negative I really have is that there is not much room for indoor seating. They have some tables outside on a deck but there aren't any heaters so it can get very cold out there. What's your favorite German dish? If I can be honest, and I know I can be since this is the internet, I never had one. Until.... drum roll.... Brewhaus opened. Although I'm from Irish Canadian decent, I can branch out with the best of them. The food, the liters of brew, the friendly staff, and the killer patio leading back to the tranquil park on the river are just a few reasons why I visit so often. Kraut Balls: 5/5 would smooch again. Spaetzel: 7/7 would shovel into mouth hole again. King Ludwig with runny egg: 9/9 will continually eat, regret, rejoice, repeat every time I come in to visit. The staff has always been my favorite part of this place though. True local support and local people talking about and serving awesome beer. Give 'em a try. Ok I really really really wanted to love this place!! It has the perfect combination of dive bar/hipster joint ambience to it. Small and unassuming, maybe about 15 tables in the whole place. Food is German. Ours was very good and everything we saw on others' tables looked even better. My 2 stars is for service alone. It was horrible. Wait is there a word worse than horrible??? Our server was borderline rude. We had to approach her for refills, silverware, check. Our food took over an hour to get. An hour for 3 sandwiches and a soft preztel. My brother had the special with three different types of pork, which just melted in your mouth. David our waiter was very friendly and fun. First let me say that many of my friends love this place, or at least their pretzel. I on the other hand find this to be one of the worst eateries in Chattanooga, that is with the exception of their deviled eggs. The good: the deviled eggs. These are simply wonderful and quite possibly the best anywhere. The view from the back patio is also a plus. The Bad: everything else. They overcook most everything on their menu. The bratwurst are not the ussual juicy delicious explode in your mouth treat you would expect, no they are dry and served on what might be stale buns. Their sandwiches are served on sourdough bread which sounds like it would pair nicely with the meat or cheese but it's either to big for the patty or not able to hold together. The patties for their burgers are cooked to a dry mess, but what should i have expected when beef is mixed with sausage to form a patty. The spetzel is served with what is basically a Alfredo sauce, who does this? Their pretzels are more in the style of a dry Bavarian pretzel, but served warm and slightly undercooked so they are slightly soft. The sauerkraut balls are a hard dry mess, thankfully they are served with mustards or cheese to help add some moisture. Basically this place is trying to merge German food with American Bar food and failing miserably at it. It's a poor interpretation of German food and possibly some of the worst bar food on the north shore. With so many great resturants and bars in Chattanooga and on the north Shore I would recommend going to most any other place over this tired establishment. read more

I went to Germany this summer and made it my mission to find the BEST German potato salad. From Munich to Berlin not a bite from the best, authentic German restaurants held a candle to the potato salad from Brewhaus. This is no exaggeration. I would bar hop from one famous bierhaus to another ordering only potato salad and Pilsner (and the occasional apple strudel) but the only German potato salad I will imitate at my own Oktoberfest parties is that which my mom used to make and that I can find at Brewhaus in Chattanooga, TN!!! You can go experience the fun of the Bavarian Bierhaus in Nashville, but they can't match the food and service of Chattanooga's Brewhaus. My wife and I make foodie road trips to Chattanooga regularly and Brewhaus is often part of the tour. Good beer, good fun and the friendliest staff you could hope for. We were seated outside to start which was great until it started raining. Our first server prior to moving because of the rain was great. He took the time to explain everything to us visitors. We ended up here for lunch while on vacation last summer (yes, last summer) and I still think about the kirsch schnitzel with sides that I had so thought a review might be in order. The cherries were such an unexpected twist for me and the sweetness really pulled together well with all the savory flavors and mustard. I was so excited to try this place out because it is near impossible to find a quality, authentic German restaurant in East Alabama. It started out great with the pretzel and dipping sauces, but our lunch entrees were just okay (King Ludwig and Jaeger Schnitzel). And, honestly I was disappointed in the selection of European Beers available. What ruined the experience for us is the way we were treated when we left. Apparently I parked in an employee's spot (they aren't marked), and the offended employee really let me have it in the parking lot.
