Found this place a couple of years ago and I dine here every time I'm in Chattanooga. I love the schnitzel, brats, spaetzle, potato salad, kraut balls... pretty much everything I have tried there. The service is always excellent and super friendly. Great place to go with friends for food of a different fare and beers on a rotating tap. The deck seating is lovely on a pretty day with a great view of the walking bridge over the river. I also appreciate that their seasonal veggies are locally sourced and they have fun events and tastings. There used to be a server there with an epic mustache. I crushed on him. Beer selection is really decent so I bump them up one star, but the food is mediocre at best. They have some Dishes that are sort-a-kinda-German - brats, schnitzel, etc. Supplementing these items are the typical American burgers etc. I ordered the brats with kraut and potato salad. Brats and kraut are hard to mess up but the potato salad was greasy and unpalatable. Oddly the plate also had steamed freezer vegetables saturated with butter. My husband and I came to Chattanooga for a day trip and were looking for a nice relaxed place with outdoor seating. The Brewhaus seemed to offer just that, biergarten as well as covered patio with a view of the river and walking bridge. Our waitress was prompt and friendly and the food was delicious! At this point I should probably add that I am German and therefore really picky if it comes to German food in the US and usually find it far from authentic. The food at the Brewhaus seemed to be a mix of German classics with an American twist and the result speaks for itself. I had the Spaetzle which came with two brats and a side of potato salad and red cabbage. I can only recommend it and wish I'd know where they get their brats from! The red cabbage was slightly sweet and just how it's supposed to be. The potato salad came with bacon bits and chive and had a bit of a sour taste to it, not sure if it was from vinegar or kraut mixed into it - either way - it was tasty! My husband had the Jaegerschnitzel with a side of Spaetzle and potato cakes and the Schwarzbier to drink - he loved it. The Brewhaus is definitely a place we'd re-visit and recommend to our friends. read more

The food here is top notch, and there is a great draft selection. While it does have a bit of a hole in the wall feel, that's what makes it so inviting! It's great that dogs are allowed too, as it is close to the walking bridge and my little buddy sometimes needs a break. The service has been incredibly average, in my experience. There have been several times that it feels like I have been forgotten about because I'll order a drink and a side dish, and no one will check on me for upwards of 30 minutes. read more

Really, schnitzel and spetzel in Chattanooga? Great little German restaurant. Growing up in Cleveland (the real one) i've had plenty of German food. This place did not disappoint. My go to is the "King Ludwig"with a side of spetzel. It's an excellent schnitzel sandwich. Get it with the fried egg. Great beer, great view. Small place does get packed. The schnitzel smothered in mushroom gravy with spaetzel and potato cakes on the side is to die for! Also, their pretzel comes with three different mustard sauces is also delicious. After a remarkably poor experience (see my review for Foodworks http://www.yelp.com/biz/food-works-chattanooga), we opted to head down the street to Brewhaus. Fortunately for us, we lucked out with this place. We sat outside on the back patio, which was very relaxing even in the 90+ degree heat. The service was good and extremely friendly. We started with a couple of cocktails and some fried pickles. The drink I had was the special of the day...gin, grapefruit juice, and a splash of pilsner...very refreshing and tasty. The pickles were hot and fresh and had just the right about of batter for a nice crispy coating. For lunch I opted for the grilled spicy brat topped with bacon, vinegar slaw, and horseradish mustard served on a pretzel bun. It was, for lack of a better word, outstanding. The brat tasted fresh and authentic (similar to food I've had in Austria), but you could tell they put their own unique twist on classic German fare. The toppings were perfect and complemented the brat nicely without overpowering the flavor. I went with the potato cakes on the side, which were very tasty as well. Great seasoning, nice outer crunch with a soft interior. My girlfriend had the German potato salad, which I tried and loved...would probably get that next time. All in all, we had a very nice and relaxing lunch on what was a nice day trip to Chattanooga from Atlanta. I would easily go back here next time I'm in town without thinking twice about it. read more

Great Service-Amazing German Food-Cool Atmosphere-Great Location-Slightly expensive (10-15) Great Service- It is a bar and it speaks it the minute you walk in. Their is no hostess stand but it was pretty easy to figure out that you need to find your own spot, so no hostess needed. The waitress (Jewel) was very friendly and made sure to be at the table as much as possible to fill drinks and answer questions if needed. The menu is very german so she was helpful in explaining what it all meant. The food came out fast and the waitress Jewel helped us learn a little more about town and where the cool spots are. Overall very good service Amazing German Food- Appetiizer--We started off with the Kraut balls which are ping pong ball sized balls of sour kraut, bratwurst and cheese rolled in seasoned flower and fried......delicious the mustard dipping sauce was a little too tart though. Their were about 8 balls which was plentiful for five people and worth the $7.50. Entree--I had the spaetzel which is bratwurst over a bed of seashell noodles (atleast thats what I call them) in a cream mushroom suace. Very good! The potato cakes were fried flat cakes and very good, the home fries were cut up potatoes but were the packaged frozen kind which weren't that good. My wife had the bratwurst and the breads are locally made and very good, like a pretzel. The german potato salad was unlike anything I have ever had! It was a warm potato salad and was served with bacon and cheese, so good. Kids had the burger which was just ok, however the bread again was very soft and warm. Cool Atmosphere- The place is a bar that overlooks the Tennessee River with awesome patio space to emphasize its location. The inside looks like a german beer hall with a modern twist. The outside had cool seating too underneath strung up bulb lights. Great Location- The area is located over the Tennessee river right next to one of the longest pedestrian bridges in America, The place has a staircase leading down to the park by the river and is in a very cool part of the old downtown location with lots of cool shopping and the likes. This was one of our favorite parts of Chattanooga!! We went on our last day and there couldn't be a better way to top our vacation. We were over the southern bbq and this was great! Everything 4 adults had was amazing! Especially the Brussel sprouts our waitress recommended and the spaetzle! We've had authentic German food in Germany and this has an eclectic flair without messing up the great taste of original German food. There is no kids menu, but our waitress recommended things from the main menu that are kid-friendly. Our kids don't eat potatoes and they looooved the "fries" served here! They actually ate just about everything! We will be recommending to friends and returning on our next trip! read more

Brewhaus has become a staple in the area. The food is good quality, the beer selection is small but changes every week (and on Mondays you get half-liters for $3; you can't beat that), and the view off the deck is one of the very best views you'll have at a restaurant in the city. It's a German gastropub, so we're talking a pretty niche menu here. The spaetzle is consistently phenomenal. Fuh. Nominal. There have been a few times I've gotten it and it's been a little on the salty side, but it's still great. I never come here without getting some, even if it's just a little $3 side portion of it. Their entrees are all perfectly good, if not similar to one another. Even so, there's something on there for everyone. A couple of my favorite are The Spaetzle (obvious) and the Jäger Schnitzel Wiener Art (getting to say the name when you order is a bonus). The Curry Wurst is great but may or may not destroy your insides. A recent addition to the menu, the Schnitzel Fraction, is a nice option for when you want a snack/are broke. There are other good choices as well. The Glockenspiel Burger is creative and definitely worth a shot if you like sauerkraut or beets. They tend to cook the burger a little on the well side though, so if you like it more on the rare-medium rare side of the spectrum you've really got to stress that to your server so they can stress it to the cook. I've been getting the King Ludwig lately, which masterfully combines my love of schnitzels with my love of bacon with my love of apple butter. Your server will probably recommend you toss an egg on there for $0.60, but I will hereby recommend that you don't bother. I've had it both ways, many times each, and the egg doesn't add anything except a little bit of protein and some runny yoke. Did I mention they server beer by the liter? I don't think I did. They serve beer by the liter. You can literally buy a beer so big you have to use both hands to pick it up. It's really a beautiful thing. read more

Chattanooga is half way for both of us so we like to meet up and spend the day together occasionally and we ALWAYS come back to Brewhaus! We have never had something here we didn't like! I am not a person who goes to pubs, they just aren't my thing. The food is usually too heavy for me. So when my friend chose this for his birthday celebration, I sucked it up and took one for the team. I was pleasantly surprised that the food was very good. The Pretzel was so yummy as was my burger. It came on a good bun from a local bakery and the grilled vegetables I ordered as my side were delicious. I expected sad, rubbery, frozen veggies, but these were very fresh and tasty. I found my experience at Brewhaus to be just A-OK as the 3-Star rating states. The food was decent, it was kind of a hybrid between German and American food. I wish the quality of ingredients was a little higher because the prices kind of make you think you will be getting something a lot tastier. As far as the beer menu goes, there really aren't too many choices. But, there is usually something on the beer list that you can find and will enjoy. I wouldn't really call these place a dive or hipster-like, but it does look a little modern on the inside and the porch is rather nice. read more

One of my favorite restaurants in Chattanooga! Authentic German dishes with an American twist. Interior reminds me of a place in southern Germany. Low ceilings, not fancy, clean and natural lighting. You've got to try the King Ludwig! Not the most dietary thing in the world..but it's worth the calories. Pimento cheese taste great and has a hint of spicy to it. Fried Sauerkraut Balls are Delicious!!! Awesome beer selection and HUGE steins to drink out of. Only downside is the limited parking and the restrooms are small and unkempt. One of the best views in Chattanooga, too. Overlooks the river and the Walnut Bridge. Very attractive weight staff. We had the friendliest waitress with the prettiest smile during my last visit..which was icing on the cake! I can't say enough good things about Brewhaus.
