We ordered two different German beers but they were out of Oktoberfest which was my first choice. The schnitzel was good but the fries were really tasty. Such a cute place, offering simple German fare. Their schnitzel is tasty, as is their spatzle, sauerkraut, and German potato salad. I didn't care for the hunter sauce on their jaegershnitzle because it was too bland for me. We are very excited to be in the area now so we can make a reservation for their fondue! The staff was so friendly, the ambiance authentically German, and the food was quite tasty. Overall, a very good experience. Desiree waited on us, and she couldn't have been more accommodating to our many questions about the menu. The service was wonderful. Even the owner stopped by to chat, including speaking with my mom and me in German, which really made her day. FOOD: Lots of favorites on the menu. Of course we tried the wursts. I ordered a Sampler Platter ($17) with a Thüringer Bratwurst, a Currywurst, and a Nürnberger Bratwurst. I asked for some German mustard, and there was a $0.60 charge for that. We also tried the Jäegerschnitzel (single $12, or two for $19), smothered in brown gravy and mushrooms. For the sides, we tried the Sauerkraut, the German Potato Salad, and the Spatzle. One of the "Daily Specials" was a Hungarian Goulash served in a bread bowl. It looked good, so I asked if I could try a spoonful, and they were generous enough to serve me a small bowl. I kid you not when I say it was the best Goulash I've ever had, and I've had a lot, including the real deal in Hungary. We finished off our lunch by sharing a piece of the Black Forest Cake ($6.50). If you have nothing nice to say, then it's best not to say anything! But to help those who read reviews, maybe I need to say something. The meal was not what I would call good. The schnitzel was paper thin, deep fried, not pan fried. Not worth the price. The potato salad was mushy. And roasted sweet potatoes! Bah! Wife had same but potato pancakes as a side. Not even close to a German dish. What was good- the beer. Having German beer glasses and pictures around the walls does not make a German restaurant worthy. It's the food. Maybe it was just an off day for them. But it's not on my list to go back. Why would you put your faith in my review- I spent over fifteen years in Germany, married a German woman who knows how to cook a schnitzel and her potato salad is the best! The two stars that this restaurant earned represent my dining companion (my fiancé) and the poor waitress who is carrying the team on her back. While she clearly did her best and far above what she should be asked to do, our server not only took our order, but clearly was both brains and brawn of the kitchen both reheating and relaying our lunch. We were confused by the owner who sat with a customer outside with his dog. At first we thought he worked there, but we later realized he is owner in name only and does not take responsibility for anything. We overheard him gossiping with a friend about three former employees who he had trouble with and he said that our waitress now does the job of all three (waitressing, cooking, and washing dishes). Poor girl! Previously, I worked in a German deli back in Alabama, so I was very excited to eat here. However, I was extremely disappointed ... not mad ... just disappointed. The food was as others have previously written on yelp --extremely bland. At first I was skeptical of the menu. For example, there was not a sausage platter that would include standard sides like hot potato salad, sauerkraut and German bread -but I told myself that I should not assume that everyone does things the way that we did at the German deli I previously worked at. However, my gut instinct turned out to be correct because this was extremely overpriced, underseasoned and grossly underwhelming. The poor waitress was also having to heat up our food (yeah, as in clearly all microwaved) and also get our drinks, orders, and bus the other tables. The owner sat around drinking beer and playing king of the castle with all his captive audience patrons. He was loose-lipped enough to let slip that three employees had all quit a while ago over interpersonal differences, and now the waitress was doing all three of their jobs. He made it sound like he had come out ahead, cutting down on the diminishing marginal return of labor, but let me tell you, he was wrong. Now this one poor girl was the sole provider of this establishment with an owner/millstone slowing her down. Let this be a cautionary tale for anyone who applies for a job where the description reads, "seeking a guru/superstar..." I should add this was back in March. Yelp didn't post my review for some reason but I found it in drafts and wanted to share. Hope things have gotten better since! Sadly this place on gone down hill quite a bit. Once ownership changed a few years back we tried to be optimistic as the previous owner was a sweet Swiss German lady and was passionate about the food and the service. We have been back a dozen times since then and the new owner is just, well, annoying (loud, overbearing, and obnoxious). As mentioned in other post he sits around and drinks beer while his poor staff (more like indentured servants) work to keep things going. He obviously treats them poorly and talks bad about them and down to them - a great example of how NOT to lead others. We enjoy the food and the good German beer but we can't bring ourselves to go back and support a business where staff are treated so poorly. Hoping someone takes this over that has the same passion for the food and the service we once admired. read more

This is a gem in North Georgia. We had a spat of rainy weather over the weekend and on a Sunday, the clouds were clearing and we decided to head to Dahlonega, GA. We found this place on Yelp and it had some great reviews. This is some authentic German food. The staff was amazing. The food was amazing. We had the potato cakes and pretzel as appetizers and we gobbled that up! There were four of us in our party. This is a small place and it filled up for lunch. The ambiance is local. Even if crowded, you can carry on conversations. We ordered the Jagerschnitzel and the 3 sausage sampler. That gave us a good tasting a lot of their stuff. Awesome flavor and I now have leftovers for lunch tomorrow. We also finished with the Apple strudel. Please note it takes 17 minutes to prepare the Apple Strudel. Order it when you get your meal. This is a cute hole-in-the-wall family diner with an outdoor dog-friendly patio. Across from the Domino's, this place is a bit hidden when going west on Memorial Drive. But look for the unassuming building with the giant sausage on the sign. I ordered the Fleischkäse with pretzel and fries and devoured it. Simple and flavorful, and absolutely delicious. Others at the table went for the Jägerschnitzel and cleaned their plates. We ordered a round of tasty apple strudels for dessert. The service is super friendly and welcoming. After eating some delicious German food yesterday, we were left with craving another pretzel so we found Bratzeit close to where we were staying. Their giant pretzel was warm, soft and perfectly salted. What we didn't enjoy was the cold cheese. The mustard was stone ground and strong. It was nice with the pretzel. We also tried the red cabbage and the potato cakes. The cabbage was delicious, a great combination of sweet and sour. The potato cakes were small crispy medallions served with apple sauce and sour cream. So good! Service was top notch! They were friendly and helpful above and beyond! On the day we ate there for lunch, a group of about 20 old bikers came in and the kitchen was not ready for a group of this size. Our food took about an hour and fifteen minutes before it was even made. The kitchen and the owner were fighting and the owner screamed the "F-bomb about 30 F'-in times. But that didn't stop the drunk owner from going back out to the deck and continuing to drink with his friends and play with his dogs. Meanwhile the waitress kept walking by telling us our food was next and just another minute, that went on for about 45 minutes. At the one hour mark, the waitress apologized and told us we would be getting a discount for the long wait and our food would be out in just a minute. Fifteen minutes later the food arrived the order was wrong. They gave us the wrong sides and said there was no charge for them and brought out our correct sides. Sad to say but we as customers should not have heard all the yelling and F-bombs from the drunk owner or all the complaints from the cook how they ran out of everything or from the waitress. Walking in we were greeted by a woman who I think was German, we say at a table and looked over the menu... small menu but had a bunch we wanted to try! Bratzeit accommodated a group of 32 adults and kids for dinner on the patio. We had RSVPd in advance, knowing it would be difficult for a restaurant to fit our size group. Service was great as they had 3 staff who seemed dedicated to bringing food and drinks for our group. Despite the chaos of many young children, they were kind and never seemed annoyed. It is a small place so food came out in shifts and not all at once, but that may be expected for a party our size. People were happy to wait for food, though, because they kept the beers coming. From the outside you cannot imagine how delicious the food is. The outside looks like just a regular building, but inside - some of the most amazing food I've ever eaten. The service was fast and friendly. The portions were good size. The food tasted homemade, nothing frozen here. The sauerkraut is everything it should be. We ordered a pork schnitzel, with a small pretzel, Nürnberger sausage, spätzle, and sauerkraut. Everything was fresh, and each bite was better than the last. Bratzeit is legit! It's a wife and husband eatery serving mostly German fare in the form of sausages and schnitzel. It's one of the only restaurants downtown that legitimately deserve every bit of the five stars. Let me explain. First of all the owners are great. Very hospitable and patient for us novices who had a helluva time trying to figure out what to eat. We settled on the schnitzel and the cordon bleu. Both were awesome. The fried potatoes were uniquely fluffy and crispy. The potato salat is so good. So yeah, the sides complimented the entrée very well. I had a dark beer with my meal. It was served at the right temperature. Not icy cold and not room temperature. They did it right. Don't overlook the dessert. We had the German cheesecake ... which is not as creamy or sweet as American cheesecake. I loved it. read more

Sure, it took a few minutes to get a drink, but the weather was really nice. Plus the server was working really hard to accommodate everyone she could and I saw her greet them. We were surprised to find a restaurant with a 5 star average rating and 127 reviews (now 128) in Dahlonega after our original lunch plans fell through and I see now why they got 5 stars. Because this place is amazing! From great service to great food and prices, Bratzeit is the real deal. We drove right past Bratzeit since it was located in a pretty unassuming plaza. The owner and workers were super friendly and helpful. We ended up ordering a jaegerschnitzel, sausage sampler with pretzel and a beer. The schnitzel was perfectly fried and the mushroom gravy on top was delicious. It came with a side, so we ordered a side of potato salad. We ordered the sausage sampler, where we got to choose the veal brat, the cervelat and the bratwurst. I'm sure there isn't a poor choice whichever of the three you choose. There is mustard and ketchup at the table that you can use. Overall, Bratzeit is definitely my new go-to must visit restaurant in Dahlonega. While I haven't been to Germany to experience it fully, I enjoyed the service and food (and the prices) immensely! read more

Touted highly in reviews. Visited on a Sunday. Very limited parking and a little hard to find. We're seated outside promptly. They apologized for not having enough servers. Service was beyond SLOW! Owner seemed to be running around like a chicken with its head cut off. When we finally ordered our drinks, the tap kicked, so got a part beer on the house! Slowness aside, the food was great--if you like authentic German food. We had Pork schnitzel (delicious) , potato pancakes (excellent) and spatzel (authentic and served boiled , not then pan fried with onions that you might expect, but good). It was worth the very long wait, which was more tolerable with the German beer ( but again, you have to like German beer!) The owner was very personable once the rush slowed down. They are really struggling with help, partly related to the change in ownership, party related to people not wanting to work, and ????? So IF you like genuine German food, are patient and will be satisfied with a limited menu you will love this place. I have been coming here for years, and the food, service, and ambiance has always been good. The schnitzel is always crispy, and the potato pancakes are to die for. The cheese platters are always a good option, and the deserts are wonderful. For a Friday night dinner, it's wonderful to have- though I do think that something is missing- and that something is ASPARAGUS. I am no food professional or critic, but I think offering a common German vegetable like asparagus is a good way to introduce vegetables that allows fresh balance on the plate, as the only opinions are potato's, mushroom sauce, and cabbage in a sauce as well.
