Great place for breakfast, lunch, yummy food, friendly people, working lunch. No shortcuts in food prep that upset this sensitive stomach.

Review Highlights - Main Street Cafe

I had the eggs Benedict with skillet potatoes and it's been the best meal I've eaten in days.

I had dinner at Blue Diamond with my husband and our friends (another couple). Overall, I thought…read morethe food was ok. The curries were very flavourful, but mine was too oily for my liking, and I found the rice was dry. I originally ordered the chicken tandoori, but our server, who was also the owner, advised me that it was more of an appetizer (even though it was $15, and not listed under appetizers), and suggested the Chicken Tikka Masala ($16) instead, so I went with his recommendation. I also ordered peas rice ($5). My husband got the Lamb Vindaloo ($18) and was going to share my peas rice, but the owner recommended that he get his own rice, and so he ordered the naan ($2.50), but we ended up receiving and being charged for the upgraded garlic naan ($3) and an order of plain rice ($4) for husband. We had way too much rice with the 2 orders. We didn't complain because we thought maybe the owner misunderstood, and we didn't make ourselves clear enough. However, I do have the feeling that we were "upsold" so the bill would run higher. Our friends also received twice the amount of rice that they thought they ordered (and of course they were charged for what they received). They ordered the Chicken Korma ($15), the Lamb Curry ($18), Garlic Naan ($3) and one order of plain rice ($4), but they got 2 orders of rice ($8) in addition to everything else they ordered. The Chicken Tikka Masala was really flavourful and I liked that the chicken was large chunks of boneless breast meat. It was not spicy. I found it too oily for my liking though. The Lamb Vindaloo was less oily, and had large chunks of lean boneless lamb. I liked that the lamb didn't taste gamey. The Vindaloo sauce was very spicy and flavourful. Both the plain rice and the peas rice were very dry. The peas rice was just plain rice speckled with a few green peas. When the curry sauces were added to the rice, it tasted better, but I didn't like the rice on its own. However, I did enjoy the garlic naan. It was hot and crispy on the outside and soft on the inside with the right amount of chewiness. It was garlicky too. Service was ok, but not all that friendly. One of our friends had to ask twice for water. They have 2 pool tables and they are $1 a play, which is pretty good. They also have a jukebox. The owner and chef are Indian and so their specialty is Indian food, but they also serve regular pub food like wraps, burgers and poutine. They also have some fusion items like butter chicken poutine, and tandoori chicken wrap. The restaurant is located in a strip mall and there's lots of free parking.

Update: my previous concern of pricing may have been premature, as I'm pretty sure that most…read morerestaurants have increased prices during the pandemic. Furthermore, we've since tried some other Indian restaurants that were equally priced with equal or smaller servings, but nowhere near the same depth of flavours. In fact, one of the most popular Indian restaurants in West Ottawa in Britannia charges $5-7 more per dish. Not certain the size because they are currently closed until further notice. Just be aware that for 3 or 4 dishes plus bread and an appetizer for two people, expect to pay $100 all in here.... but you'll each get three good meals out of it. Still the best I've found within range of Kanata-Stittsville.

Looks like they probably do some concerts since they have a nice stage set up in the back. Servers were really friendly getting us situated with our daughter and the wagon we use to transport her around. Very family friendly as we saw several other parents with strollers as well. Nice menu and a lot of good beer options. Opted to try their radler and it was delicious, before I remembered I'm not supposed to have grapefruit. The waitress was quick to get me a replacement Guinness. The food came out pretty quick. My wife got the Tuna Poke Wonton, which came out deconstructed I guess... actually ended up working out pretty well. It was quite good, but the poke wasn't nearly as fresh as what we are used to in California. My chicken burger was delicious, the cranberry and brie on it made me feel like thanksgiving. It was really hearty and heavy for a chicken burger, but worth it! The highlight might be the kids menu though. The kids can pick from 4 items Poutine, Fish & Chips, Burger & Fries, or Mac n Cheese. But, it comes with a drink and dessert. Clearly our daughter was on cloud 9 getting chocolate milk and ice cream included in her meal. Her poutine was quite good too, not too salty, nice gravy flavor and melty curds. If you're in the area this is a great stop for food or drinks or both.

When trains still serviced Stittsville (running on tracks that ran along what is now the TCT), instead of all the cars we have now, there was a stop here, in Ottawa's true west end. This location is imbued with history! I love it when an old space is rejuvenated . Too that all off with fabulous coffees and good cafe food, and we have a winner here!! I do have to admit that it does get busy, and especially with special rules due to the pandemic, it can fill up pretty quickly. We like to go during the day on the weekend, but we don't like to line up outside the building to get our fix. They've only been open less than a month and already they're that busy! We like to go evenings as well. The best service is when the owner, Chi, is here. The staff is fairly young and trendy and still learning the ropes. Welcome to Stittsville!!
