Unprofessional, Money-First Care…read more I made an appointment with this doctor, and was in the hold time of five weeks to see him. A week later his office called to say he says I had to see a nurse first to confirm I "need" surgery before the doctor would even speak with me and then wait several additional weeks to get back on his schedule. The office showed no concern for patient inconvenience or extra cost: a deductible twice, making two trips, and waiting longer while they screen for higher‑paying cases. That is prioritizing revenue over patient care. My time has value also! When a physician places potential income ahead of patients' well‑being, it represents a breach of the fundamental duty of care, they are expected to act in patients' best medical interests, not their bank account. That erosion of professional responsibility creates delayed diagnoses and treatment, unnecessary costs and travel, and emotional stress from uncertainty. Once care feels transactional rather than ethical, patients lose confidence in clinical judgments, second‑guess recommendations, and may delay or avoid needed care entirely. Trust is essential to clear communication and good outcomes. It is difficult to rebuild when decisions appear driven by revenue rather than health. And if this guy's nurse turns people down as not profitable enough, then they need to start shopping for a new doctor after waiting over a month. Why even start with this mess?

I have had no pain in that part of my back since that morning. I never had to take any pain medication. It looks like I now have additional spinal deterioration that will require surgery. I am forever thankful for Dr.Poliakin and her staff- I feel so fortunate they were there (and…read morebelieved me) in my time of need. Cliffnotes version: -Go to ER at 1am for abdominal pain. Ultrasound confirms gallstones and liver enzymes are slightly elevated. They send me home with a referral to follow up with a general surgeon and painkillers. - Next day: call referral for general surgeon (Dr.Andrew Luckey) who doesn't see outpatient so was a bit confused- he only sees you if you had surgery in the hospital. The next opening they had was in a week but they were going to try and squeeze me in. They did call me back and were able to get me an appt however I was already on the way back to the ER because I didn't feel I could make it a week. -ER round 2- get a dragon of a NP who says they aren't going to admit me for surgery, tells me that's not what I want nor are they going to rerun my labs since I was just there- best she could do is order an CT so I said okay and sat down.Hours go by and it becomes clear to me even with a CT I'm not going to get help here and my only shot at getting support was the surgery referral. Called Dr. Poliakin's office back, tell them the situation, they told me to come over and they will fit me in. Met Dr. Poliakin, she educated me very clearly about what was likely going on, laid out all the options includingthe option to get on her surgery schedule that day. I was terrified but I trusted her completely after meeting her and felt safe in her care. She called the ER and told them to rerun my labs and admit me and thank goodness she did. The labs were 5x what they were and I was on my way to developing jaundice. Got admitted and things moved quite quickly after that. As someone who's never had surgery (aside from dental) in her life, I was absolutely terrified going into this and some tears were shed. While I was in pre-op I got to meet my OR Nurse, anesthesiologist and see Dr. Poliakin again to talk about the developments from the blood work. I had an all female team which felt pretty badass . Dr. Poliakin again was super upfront, educational, straight forward, and compassionate. I knew going into this there was no one else's care I'd rather have been in and went into that OR more relaxed than I ever would have expected possible from myself. I'm now five days post surgery, doing well and I shutter to think what could've happened if it wasn't for Dr. Poliakin and her staff. I wish there were words to convey how thankful I am but thank you just doesn't really cut it. If you find yourself in the unfortunate situation of needing general surgery and you're reading this review trying to find some reassurance- just know you're in the best hands and she will take amazing care of you.

Dr. Mehran literally saved my life! He is an excellent surgeon and I would highly recommend him…read more He operated on me twice and the first surgery was pretty tricky. He was very concerned about me and made multiple visits to the hospital to check on me which was above and beyond. It is wonderful that we have a surgeon of his caliber here locally in Ventura County. He has a great reputation with the nurses at Los Robles which says something about him. I am not sure about those people that seemed to have a bad experience. He is very smart and might come across as pompous but that is not really who he is at all! He is confident in his abilities but tells you the truth in a factual and professional manner. He really cares about his patients. He even communicated with me when he was out of office due to a death in his family.

Before the surgery I shared my training ambitions, exercise is a big part of my lifestyle. We went forward with the surgery, thinking I would later need to see a plastic surgeon to remove the lipoma during a separate surgery, as he was not qualified to remove. The doctor did not use mesh, which I believe was a big mistake given my lifting goals. However, it was at his discretion and he felt the hernia was small enough not to use mesh. I slowly went through my recovery after the surgery and started my weightlifting routine again. At 38 years old, I don't train heavy any longer - never going under 10 repetitions. I have great body awareness and know not to go past a certain intensity. I have a Bachelor and Masters degree in Kinesiology and have taught exercise and fitness related courses at UCLA for 6 years. Regardless, the hernia did end up coming back in August 2017. I called the office several times before I could get a hold of anyone. Martha seems to be the office manager. She is unfriendly and unpleasant to deal with, which I feel stems from her simply disliking her job. I paid over $4,000 out of pocket for this surgery and when I left a message that the hernia came back, I never received a response!!!! In October 2017, I had a double hernia repair surgery with a different surgeon, a plastic surgeon this time. He said that what Dr. Mehran believed to be a lipoma was in fact another hernia. Therefore I was misdiagnosed by Dr. Mehran. I recommend staying clear of this office, an overall negative experience which should have been a routine surgery. I had to take medical leave again and abstain from working out for another 6 weeks.

They were very professional, very helpful, informative and pleasant. They were also a pleasure to briefly chat with. 2) Dr. Aimaq was SHARP, yet APPROACHABLE. Where my primary care physician was unsure, Dr. Aimaq was fully confident and fully knowledgeable. My time with Dr. Aimaq was brief, only because he's that sharp, experienced and knowledgeable. He urged me to ask all the questions I may have, since I was paying out of pocket for my consultation. I asked, and he confidently answered my few questions. He gave me full confidence with my own decisions regarding how to proceed. I will not be moving forward with the procedure I thought I needed, because Dr. Aimaq was so informative, that he made me realize that it was not necessary. FIVE STARS!

My experience with the surgery coordinator, Cecilia Contreras, was very disappointing…read more I contacted the office after receiving approval for my second inguinal hernia surgery authorization to understand the next steps in the process. When I originally met with the office, I was told that if I was busy, I could schedule the surgery later and that I had flexibility regarding the timing. I also experienced difficulty reaching Cecilia directly. On multiple occasions when I called the office, she was unavailable, which made it challenging to get timely information and assistance regarding my care. For that reason, I was surprised by the way I was treated during my recent phone call. Instead of receiving guidance and support, I felt blamed for not scheduling the surgery sooner. Patients may have personal, family, work, financial, or health-related reasons for postponing a procedure, and I felt those circumstances were not taken into consideration. What concerned me most was the tone of the conversation. I felt that Cecilia Contreras was rude, dismissive, unprofessional, and unnecessarily confrontational. As someone whose primary language is not English, I was doing my best to communicate and understand the process. Rather than helping clarify the situation, the conversation left me feeling uncomfortable, pressured, and discouraged from asking questions. I was told that if I planned to continue with the office, I needed to schedule the surgery, and if not, I should say so immediately. This felt more like pressure than patient care, especially considering that I had previously been told I could schedule the procedure when my circumstances allowed. Communication was often incomplete. For example, when my follow-up appointment was scheduled, I was given the date but not the time and had to ask for it separately. The call also ended abruptly without the level of courtesy and professionalism that patients should expect from a medical office. Scheduling surgery is a significant medical decision, and patients deserve to be treated with respect, professionalism, and understanding. Unfortunately, this interaction caused me to lose confidence in moving forward with this office, and I have decided to seek care elsewhere. I hope the clinic reviews how patients are treated and improves communication with future patients.

At only 26 years old and in the middle of nursing school, I never imagined I would need a craniotomy. Facing brain surgery was one of the most frightening experiences of my life, not only for me but for my entire family. During such an overwhelming time, Dr. Benet gave us something priceless: confidence, trust, and peace of mind. I truly could not have asked for a better surgeon. After my surgery, Dr. Benet personally sat with my family for nearly 30 minutes, carefully explaining everything and answering their questions. With a large family gathered and understandably terrified, his compassion, patience, and confidence reassured every one of us. It was clear that he genuinely cared not only about my outcome but also about the people who love me. The level of skill and care I received was extraordinary. Recovery is different for everyone, but I honestly believe that finding Dr. Benet was one of the greatest blessings in my journey. I woke up after surgery feeling far better than I ever expected, and my recovery has continued to exceed my expectations. Just two and a half weeks later, I am already back in nursing school--exactly as Dr. Benet predicted. That outcome felt impossible when I was first facing surgery, yet here I am because of the exceptional care I received. Thank you, Dr. Benet, for your expertise, your compassion, and for giving me the opportunity to continue pursuing my dreams. I will never be able to fully express how grateful I am. You and your team changed my life, and I will carry that gratitude with me forever. From myself and the entire Puentes family, thank you for giving us comfort during one of the most difficult moments of our lives. Another downside, for me, is that when they order any kind of test, the order has an expiration date in a week or two. I'm a senior, don't drive, and suffer from fibromyalgia with severe fatigue. All the orders from my independent drs are good for 6-12 mos! I'm guessing that large medical corporations serve a wider variety of clients, often across the entire country, so some are unreliable and do things without discussing with their drs, ergo the corporate CYA policies. Ok, but that's not me, and the independent drs I've always seen know that. Computers do not. I'm now 65 and the doctors I was with for 25+ years straight are retiring sadly. Or going "concierge" style. I got a phone message saying that my dr won't be in the day my next appt is set after all. AGAIN!! ! Each time it's ANOTHER 3-4 months before they can fit me in. Because of my fatigue added to being a lifelong "night owl", I can only do afternoon appts. I can't get to sleep until at least 3 am most nights. I also had to change my phone's "do not disturb" settings because UCLA calls at 7 am. All my life I have been taught it's rude to call others at home before 9 am. So I never get to talk to the office or person that called, since when I call back it's routed to that call center. Extremely impersonal. No one there has ANY medical training, not even receptionist level, all they do is look for open spaces on a computer screen. No empathy, and zero offers of any other way to schedule an appointment or ask a question- you have to push for any of that. When I use the app, I can interact directly with my dr's office, but it's still a series of steps from who reads my message, to a nurse or other medical assistant, to the dr, then back to me. This leads to very poor information sharing. I prefer a much more individualized approach.
