It's great coming here every 6 months for a cleaning and catching up like we saw each other just last week -- quite the memory. Luckily, I haven't had too many issues with my teeth. Doc did have to perform a procedure one time, and I was impressed how efficient and directive he was. He runs a tight ship -- gives great neck massages too (I suppose he's looking for any swelling). Wonderful place and friendly staff. I'm glad to be their patient!

Let me…read morestart by saying I've been seeing Dr. Okihiro for almost 20 years, that should give you an idea about how I feel about his level of service and expertise as a dentist. That being said I would hate to have to find another dentist because the office fails to communicate proactively and productively. Prior to my last visit I was given a quote for a crown, which would have been a two part visit, one visit to prep, the next visit to solidify the crown. Upon the completion of my first visit I made a payment which was higher than I expected it to be. Curious, I asked what would my final payment be after my second visit and I was told an amount which was about 4 times more than what I was expecting. It was explained to me that my insurance wouldn't be covering the service so I would be responsible for the full amount. To say I was shocked was an understatement, I wanted to cancel my next appointment. The office admin encouraged me to keep the next appointment and maybe work out a payment plan with the office manager. I waited for a call from the office manager that never came, instead a received a text message that reads as follows: "Hi XXX, due to circumstances, we are unable to keep your appointment on (insert date here), if you were planning on going through with the crown. We will be cancelling that appointment until you are ready to reschedule it or if you ever want to reschedule it. Thank you and have a great day!" I called the office twice and received their voicemail. I did not leave a message. I replied to the text asking to have their office manager call me. I have not received a call back. A simple phone call to let me know the price had changed, when they found out my insurance wouldn't cover the appointment, would have been extremely helpful. Instead they wait until my first appointment was completed to tell me the price had changed and they didn't volunteer the information, I had to ask. Very poor communication on their part and no accountability. I'm very disappointed.

From the moment you enter the front desk immediately checks you in, the bill is reasonable and fully itemized including what insurance covers. The wait time is never long and the waiting and exam areas are modern and simple and always spotless. My dental hygienist Jeff is gentle but thorough, extremely professional and knowledgeable and even found a way to get me fluoride treatments covered by insurance as an adult due to a medicine I take that causes dry mouth. This is someone who really cares about doing a great job. Dr Nishihara is here to give your teeth the best chance to last your lifetime. An intact tooth is the best tooth, and careful evaluation is always done before considering drilling. His exams evaluate your bite, cancer screening and discussion of issues like teeth grinding and flossing in a non judgmental manner. We could all floss more, right? I can honestly say I take better care of my teeth since I started coming here. I wish I had discovered them sooner.

Seeing the same level of dental care that my son received, business hours, closer commute via home, and work prompted an urgency to switch dentist. My only regret was not switching earlier. So I basically look forward to visiting the dentist here. I had a recent visit and everything went great until I got home. I had an appointment after working a 16 hour shift. I was very sleepy and headed home upon completion of my appointment. I'm at home getting into bed and I receive this call from this obviously angry poo person. I'm like can I help you. She went into this diatribe about how I left without paying. (My $12-20 copay) I explained I'm very tired and need sleep. I'll take care of it after some sleep. But no she wouldn't have that. It's early how can you be that angry this early in the am. I can't believe I'm saying this but I was waiting for her to say she was ready to send me to collections it was that bad. Apparently I was really bothered by it because I'm not able to sleep now and I've gotten home I decided to give the operation a call because this person definitely needs to not be communicating with patients because they have zero customer service skills. I've been in the medical field for 22 years and I've never talked to a patient like that ever. On my call I asked that somebody that was at the office front manager give me a call and they said that there is no front manager so maybe that's the problem. I did request if they could have somebody of some stature give me a call back so I could explain the situation because this person should not be around talking to or any form with patients. I'm hoping somebody is going to give me a call back otherwise I guess I'm going to have to leave a really good dentist and really good front office staff and find another dentist. Mainly recommendation if you're going to be dealing with patients try to do it with a little Aloha or at least print pretend to have some Aloha and want my business.

To preface this, I have been going to them for years and have put up with a lot of crap from the workers but today, wow, made me never want to go back.... About a year ago the older receptionist gave me a lot of attitude and I don't even think she's a dental hygienist but she told the hygienist she'd handle my cleaning.... And of course, wouldn't you guess it? She claimed to have found 3 cavities.... I had eaten a protein bar earlier in the day and when Dr. Lum came in to see me I told him that and he said the "give" in the tooth the lady claimed she found could have been that. Seriously.... How dishonest.... Felt like she was just trying to create something wrong so I would have to spend more money to take care of it... Ever since then I have been so skeptical going back... I don't know the older receptionist's credentials so I didn't report it when it happened... Today, I got to my appointment early and they took me 8 minutes late. The dental hygienist I had felt like she was new... she had no spatial awareness whatsoever and as soon as she leaned me back she shoved the plaque scraper in my mouth and made me tongue bleed... She did my x-rays and kept pushing the machine against my face... Then as we were going through the cleaning she kept jabbing me with her tools and there was a point where she stuck the water sucker to the inside of my cheek to make it stay.... I move it off because it was uncomfortable... When she flossed my teeth she let the used floss drag across my face as she tried to get my other teeth... Then at the end after Dr. Lum had seen me and left, she apologized for stabbing my tongue and blamed it on me saying that my tongue moved and that's why I got stabbed.... Since when is that an apology? She basically told me "I'm sorry it's your fault"... I wasn't speaking or even moving for that matter... My teeth weren't problematic before my visit and it took an hour after my visit for my gums to stop throbbing ... She said she found my plaque on my top teeth yet my bottom teeth/ gums were in a lot of pain after the appointment... I thought back to my appointment before this one when the receptionists gave me a little calendar and they asked me why I go to them and not somewhere closer the where I live... Both the younger and older receptionists made me feel unwelcomed with that comment so I guess moving forward, I'll be looking for a new dentist... In the years I've went here, I have had one dental hygienist I liked and the Dr himself is great.... That's why they get 2 stars... For them.... They are the real MVP's/ stars... The rest of the staff there though, no thank you... I do not recommend this place! Unless you like waiting past your appointment time, getting bogus claims you have cavities that the doctor confirms really might not even be one, dental hygienists that make you bleed and your gums throb, and unfriendly receptionists ...
