    Head inside for delicious cheese!
    Rachel E.

Delicious cheese tucked off the beaten path. Drive up the gravel road and you'll be greeted by the tiny cheese tasting room with a friendly associate offering several types of chevre and a few wine soaked hard cheeses. All delicious. You just can't beat fresh creamy cheese! You can find the cheeses at some of the local stores in case the tasting room is closed. Although it seemed like the tasting room offered a few specials. The associate specifically pointed out the creamy chevre truffle. I looked on the website but unfortunately they don't have a retail outlet in Houston :-( Can you guys get in contact with the Houston Dairymaids please?! K thanks!

This little shop is absolutely adorable and full of charm. Most of their products are locally sourced, and you can feel the care that goes into the selection. The cheese and condiment options were phenomenal, truly one of the best curated selections I've seen in the area. They also have a cute wine bar tucked in the back, which adds to the cozy, welcoming atmosphere. The sandwiches and deli items in the case looked so good that I'm already planning to come back for lunch next time I'm in town. Everything looked fresh, high quality, and thoughtfully put together. The staff was friendly, kind, and clearly passionate about what they do. Prices were very reasonable, especially considering the quality of the products. A wonderful little spot with great people and even better cheese, I'll definitely be back to enjoy "good company" in every sense of the name!

We ordered 2 craft cocktails off their well rounded cocktail menu. I love floral cocktails so I ordered a Rose Negroni $12 and my husband ordered a bourbon cocktail Lindsey's Lament $13. We loved them! For lunch we ordered pimento dip with crackers a SALUMI SANDWICH $14 fennel salami, Fra'Mani mortadella and capicollo. provolone, Mama Lil's peppers, & basil pesto on sourdough bread and a BRIE, HAM, 8 JAM SANDWICH $14 with double crème Brie, Oregon apricot jam, and Fra'Mani sweet apple ham on sour dough bread. Both sandwiches were fresh and delicious. Since we were the only customers on this quiet afternoon, we sat for a while enjoying our cocktails and sandwiches planning our next visit.

I primarily chose this spot because they have a really nice outdoor patio area so I knew I would be able to sit with my dog and eat and enjoy the weather. What I didn't know was that it had Salem spelled out in colorful letters in the front which made for an awesome photo opportunity. I was really excited to find that. When you walk inside, it has this really bright, colorful, unique decor. There is something interesting to look at no matter where you turn. They offer free samples which I really appreciate because it personally makes it easier for me to decide what I want and it definitely encouraged me to buy more cheese! My favorite sample was the queso cojeda enchilado. It had a rich tangy flavor. I ended up ordering a torta with some chips and grabbed a few different salsas from the salsa bar to try. The food was good and I couldn't leave without buying some of their smoked Oaxacan cheese to take with me. Let me tell you, it only lasted me 2 days. I wish I had bought more. As I was buying the cheese, I saw a family enjoying some ice cream cones and I had to try their ice cream as well. This place has everything. I got a cone of the Oregon mint and honestly I think it might be one of the best flavors of ice cream I have ever had. It was so fresh and flavorful and I was actually sad when I started getting to the bottom of the cone. If you're an ice cream person, you have to try it. They also gave me a card for a free game of bowling at Northgate Bowl which I thought was a really neat bonus. I wasn't in the area long enough to use it, but if we had been staying longer I definitely would have tried out the bowling as well. This is exactly the kind of local business I want to support. It's warm, welcoming, and most importantly, all of the products that they are putting out are fresh, delicious and made with love.

They have a shop with cheese, wine, ice cream, snack options and lots of other items. There is also an area outside where you can sit and enjoy your food. They have animals on the property and we purchased some feed for them inside the shop. It's only $1 a bag so we bought lots and headed out to meet them. I loved spending time with the animals but they were not at all interested in the feed. We happened to be eating a sandwich and they were much more interested in that. They have a wide range of animals, from sheep to alpacas and donkeys and ducks and chickens and even peacocks. There's lots to see. That said, I can't really give them five stars because like a lot of the reviews mention, the state of some of the animals is concerning. As much as I enjoyed interacting with them, there were things about their care and surroundings that made me feel really sad. Something I did really appreciate though is that this location allows you to camp overnight in your RV or van for free. This is a huge perk when you're traveling through the area. Because we got here late in the afternoon. We did end up staying the night, but if you decide to take advantage of that be prepared for the bugs. There were so many bugs. There is plenty to see and do here and this place definitely has a lot going for it. If you're road tripping this is a good place to stop. You can get supplies, spend some time with the animals and have a safe place to spend the night.

Both are located in untypical locations. Cowbell is located in a bit of a gritty industrial area in Central Eastside, Like Street Cheese, Cowbell has a curated selection of cheeses. It also has a good selection of gourmet foods including imported pasta and olive oil. The setup here for ordering is like you would at a restaurant rather than like picking and choosing cheeses in a deli. As such, you have a conversation with the cheesemonger about what you are looking for and they suggest cheeses to fit your needs. For me, I was visiting Portland for a few days and wanted some brie with a baguette. The Trillium by Tulip Cheese in Indiana that was suggested was a good choice pared with the locally made Little T baguette that the shop carries. It was nice that I could get a half portion as the full piece would have been too much for my short stay. If you are interested in specialty cheeses and need help with finding what cheeses you like, I would recommend visiting Cowbell to help you figure out your cheese preferences.
