We bought a Christmas gift that literally broke while we were still opening gifts. This was gifted to a gentle kid who was not using it outside of the expected use, and a piece broke off. I took it back to the store and the employee man-splained to me that even though it was broken, it still worked. He actually located the item on Amazon to show me what part was missing. I LITERALLY WATCHED IT BREAK. It was beyond insulting. I finally said that if he wasn't going to exchange or refund, Id like to leave (he kept the item this entire time and wasnt giving it back). Additionally, we bought a lionel item for a family member who had a duplicate. They had a record of the sale in the computer and still found a way to deny an exchange of an unopened item. Stores like this are why Amazon thrives. Even when I try to buy from the little guys, they find a way to make me regret it.

We went again today and even found a whole section we'd missed the first time! The working model trains were so fun to watch too! And the owner/worker was so kind, so knowledgeable, and very helpful! If I had zero knowledge about model trains, I'd feel good just walking in to learn and get a set-up. He even had some Lego and duplo supplies (he said he'd sold out of Lego motorized trains but sells them and is getting more). He helped us pick out a small N scale that fit on a table and was so easy to just plug in, snap together, my 5 year old was doing it and able to build the track! Though he needs some help to get the train wheels on the track sometimes, but it's fantastic for his fine motor, problem solving, taking care of it is good for a sense of responsibility, and learning basic electrical wiring/engineering principles. The store also right by the Tex rail station! We made it a train day by riding Tex rail to downtown Grapevine for ice cream and pie, looking at the model train in the clock tower for ideas, then a ride to the model store! Such a great day, now tonight we're making houses, ducks, ponds from air dry clay and the scenery we bought from The Model Train Crossing. But seriously such a great store, an amazing place for kids! (And also for getting something that's 'for the kids' but secretly for you! :) ). I also saw tons of supplies that were clearly for experts, advanced sets! It's a fun trip down memory lane, though it doesn't fully capture the magic of the original stores from the 80s and 90s. The store is now franchised rather than corporately owned, which changes the feel a bit. Prices are on the higher side, and while there are some interesting and unique items, there weren't many Toys"R"Us exclusives beyond a Geoffrey the Giraffe pop. Still, the store is clean, organized, and has plenty to explore, whether you're a collector, a parent, or just a kid at heart. Its worth more than $15 even if you used it as firestarters not 50% not 25%. not even 10%....... FIFTEEN DOLLARS There were many cards in the collection worth $40, $20, $10, $5 etc and even modern Macklin Celebrini cards worth like $20 a pop. Stuff with verified sales on ebay because i know collector can be off sometimes. They were either too lazy to go through the collection and price everything out or they were trying to make a massive profit off of me thinking I dont know what its worth. I understand that its a ton of work to sell lower value cards but just say you dont want to look at the collection before you make me waste my time driving an hour out to the shop. The service is good at these places though, they had a large staff who was stocking the shelves. I was asked several times by them if they could assist me with anything. The prices seem high at first, but almost everything has sale tags on them for like 30-50% off.

Events happen regularly, which is great in theory but a bit awkward in practice if you're not partaking. If you need access to the back wall where the tables are, you'll likely be squeezing past players mid-match. If it's accessible at all. The entrance can also get pretty bottlenecked depending on how many people are milling around. The store's clean enough for a hobby shop, but if you're a germaphobe, maybe bring hand sanitizer.
