They get a star for selection. They really do have a ton of stuff. Prices are a little high, but not outside of what is expected for a specialty shop. That said, buyer beware. We bought a Christmas gift that literally broke while we were still opening gifts. This was gifted to a gentle kid who was not using it outside of the expected use, and a piece broke off. I took it back to the store and the employee man-splained to me that even though it was broken, it still worked. He actually located the item on Amazon to show me what part was missing. I LITERALLY WATCHED IT BREAK. It was beyond insulting. I finally said that if he wasn't going to exchange or refund, Id like to leave (he kept the item this entire time and wasnt giving it back). Additionally, we bought a lionel item for a family member who had a duplicate. They had a record of the sale in the computer and still found a way to deny an exchange of an unopened item. I bought a nitro RC car from this location and right out of the box. It wouldn't start so I tried to exchange it for the exact same was denied, even though there was a review where somebody also had a problem with an item they the owner saying that they would do an even exchange, but yet it ended up costing me around $150 to get the same exact truck then I went back into the store to buy something else and the manager who printed out my review notice me pointed at me, and in the most stern voice said I want to talk to you. He pulled me to the side and he was reading my review and chewing me out for leaving the review, even though on another review, the owner said that I should've been able to exchange it without any extra fee and as this manager reading out this review, I tried to explain why I left the review as he was reading it. I tried to explain the certain parts of the review. And then he cuts me off and he says I'm talking my turn to talk and was as rude as can be and then I showed where it said that I should've been able to do an even exchange. He said he would find out who wrote the review as the owner saying that I could. And he would get back in touch with me and follow up in. This has been around 6 or seven months ago and I haven't heard a have my phone number and I also have doors down from this place but yet I have never heard back. This is really crummy customer service. I talked to customer service and they also agreed that I shouldn't have been charged that extra fee and they told me from now on if I buy online any problems there's no questions asked so I have not stepped back in that and I will not step back in that store unless it's for fuel I was told I would get an answer and nothing happened. This was the most ridiculous situation I've ever encountered in the manager the way he talked down to me made me feel so small and I'm the Customer in this guy treated me like dirt so if you need any future, hobby needs buy them from their website do not deal with this store because they will do you wrong if they have the chance. I am including a screenshot of the review that the to saying that within 30 days all items are eligible for an exchange. It doesn't say anything about a says even does say if you want to return it for cash there is a restocking fee, stated, all I wanted wasn't even exchange, i've tried calling customer service a few different times getting nowhere because it is a franchise and customer service. Can't do anything. My problem is that under this location's reviews. There's an answer from the owner saying all items purchased within 30 days are eligible for 100% and all I wanted was to exchange the truck for the exact same truck and it was maybe two days at the most before I took it back and was still charged over 100 something dollars. Of all the surviving shops in the metroplex, this is the most "old school" legit shop! RC planes everywhere hanging from the ceiling. Model rocket section with good variety. Some slot cars and even telescopes! Well stocked in traditional RC airplane and car accessories. Leon the store manager is a true hobbies and his store reflects that. Reading some of the old reviews it's obvious the store has come a long ways. Everyone who works here is courteous and amazing. Great paint and model section with lots of vintage kits and the latest releases. Small but high quality Airsoft section. Games, kites, toys, and Collectables round out a fun place to visit. Just minutes from DFW airport..... Another cool thing is that they said they can price match online items!!! That's a win! A must stop for any DFW area visit!!! read more

Went to grab some specific brand of paints (Tamiya) for my models and they are the only place I know that has them! Tried Micheal's, Joann's and hobby lobby and they didn't have it. HobbyTown really had is all! I'd much rather pay here and have it the same day than paying Amazon 6 bucks on a paint that costs 9 and it'll get here within 5 days. I believe the prices are fair and the service was amazing. The people there made me feel welcome and they were very informative. If you go check out the table to the left when you first walk in. I'm not sure what's up with the previous reviews. Who knows, maybe this location has changed? But this is by far the best HobbyTown I've been to. I recently got back into RC trucks and the staff at this place was EXTREMELY helpful and answered all my questions. Best part is, they didn't make me feel like an idiot for asking (what I'm assuming to them) completely obvious questions. Instead of being money hungry, they actually talked me into a less expensive model that saved me money in the long run. I was going to go with a brushless Traxxas for about $600 and I was talked into the brushed ARRMA. It has everything I could ask for and more. And when I showed up 24 hours later looking for another battery and better charger, he showed me a huge selection but ultimately asked what I needed now and what I was looking for in the future and I settled on a 60$ Prodigy 610EZ. These guys here are INCREDIBLY knowledgeable and are in it for the hobby, not the price tag. This location just gained a lifelong customer. Keep in mind too, I pass 3 other hobby stores on my way to this one. They're great! read more

I bought a TRAXXAS XMAXX, charger, 2 GensAce 5000Mah 4S batteries $1264.00. 1 month later I have spent another $480 on spare parts. 1 month after that, I bought 2 more identical GensAce batteries. On of my newer Gensace batteries has a dead cell on #1of 4 cells. Hobbytown refuses to work with the customer to RMA, replace, and quotes store policy is 30 days. GensAce opened and RMA and is sending me a new battery. GensAce is also contacting HobbyTown Corporate for not honoring the 3 month Return/RMA policy with GensAce. Roy's HobbyShop in Bedford talked to GensAce with me and I will NEVER go back to HOBBYTOWN for the way they treated a customer. You lost my business over a $100 battery in warranty with GensAce. Guess I am buying all future RCs from Roys Hobby in Bedford. Good riddance Hobbytown. Hobbytown then tried to reply with this... We are sorry you had a bad experience. Our records show that the return was almost 5 months old and had been seriously damaged beyond warranty parameters. We strive to take care of all customers and please see our other feedback for other opinions. Hopefully you will give us another chance one day. I havent owned an XMAXX 5 month yet. I've been into the RC car hobby for a few months now. While I'm now in the "replace parts" or "upgrade" phase. This hobby is fun, addicting and is helping our family get through this COVID19 season. But all of this fun is ruined as soon as I walk in the door of HobbyTown USA in Hurst. The store itself is great, well stocked, clean, easy to find things. But the staff, particularly the manager/owner of this place has to be the worst I've ever come across. It's as if he hates this job, dislikes customers and doesn't appear to want to be engaging or helpful at all. I've shopped this store 5 times now, buying many parts. Three different times I've tried to directly communicate with this owner/manager - introducing myself (without a returned favor) and asking questions about some of the more expensive RC units they have. Today I had intentions of purchasing an Arrma Limitless or a few other top notch cars. Everyone I tried to engage with him it was as if I was putting this guy out, limited response and generally unhelpful altogether. I can't imagine this place isn't making money right now given that the hobby has really picked up the past 4-6 months. But I'll tell you, customer service is still golden. A greeting when customers walk in the door or a how can I help go a long way. But when neither occur and the customer tries to ask questions with snotty responses with an "I don't really care if you're here attitude"....your customers I going to turn around, walk out and take their business elsewhere. Which is exactly what I did. I spend $3.56 on just a part and walked out for the last time. This same attitude from the staff has happened multiple times, but it's too many times too many. I think this is my second review ever to write, but I feel as if maybe this will reach the right folks and adjustments will be made. I hope. The two stars are for the selection of products and one helpful employee. Have been to this location three different times, staff have always been extremely rude. Business has a good selection of model kits and RC stuff, but doesn't make up for rude behavior. They overcharged me once and did not want to correct it with one gentlemen saying if I buy and pay the price I should accept it. I believe he had a stick up his &**. Someone did eventually correct the overcharged amount only after negative back and forth banter, with reluctance. Seems they have their regulars they do not treat that way. As well, they do not like to be bothered with anything regarding price errors. So it's up in the air how you will be treated if not a regular. I'd recommend shopping online for model kits if you can or just do store pick up. read more

Well being I figured private hobby shops would be a little higher in price on RC cars I went here for xmas presents for my kids I purchased a TRAXXAS EREVO 759.00 AND A EMAXX 709.00 both brushless. I asked since I am making such a large purchase and had shopped there in the past could they cut some type of deal only thing the employee could come up with was a way to apply their 5 dollar coupons splitting up the purchases. SO today I was told about Roys Hobby Shop when looking for a HPI part that hobbytown would have to speacial order and most likely mark up. Well long story short ROYS had the part and out of curiosity I asked what their prices were on the 2 Rc cars 699 erevo and 669 emaxx both brushless also. Kinda feeling ripped off I called hobbytown and was informed store policy no refunds only exchanges and store credit. I went to pay by debit card (more than $100) and they told me that since my card didn't have a chip they couldn't accept it. He said the owner said they only accept cards with chips. If I can give it less than 1 star I would! This is the first time I had ever written a review on anything and purposely made an account just to write this...thats how crappy this store is!! I bought $2,000 worth of hobbies a RC plane, boat and truck with the batteries and chargers. I told the kid there (Kaleb) I'm very new to this and need help buying the Lipo batteries and accessories. Long story short he gave me the wrong batteries to my truck and sold me a broken Hi Tech charger...Fine its under warrantee...right?! WRONG! They said it was the right batteries and they didn't mess up, well I spoke to the company Venom and they said wrong batteries, my buddies said dude wrong batteries and guess what the other Hobbytown USA said wrong batteries. So the company said well can't help ya see ya later. UNBELIEVABLE! I bough 2K worth of stuff and you just say oh well its ur problem?! this is why I'm writing this review. The HI tech charger I needed to send back to the company and they sent me a new one...I also bought a retrial boat, $119, oh yea breaking news! Battery charger doesn't work...go figure...So rude and disrespectful when I had issues but when I had 2,000 dollars they were angels....Do your self a favor and take the extra 30 min drive to the HobbyTown USA one in Fort Worth its absolutely 100% worth is. Lack of customer service isn't even starting with this place. Me and my son went in there looking for parts on a RC car build we are doing. Only 4 customers in the store and both would rather stay on the opposite side of store instead of helping customers. Then when you try to look closer at any items they start complaining and looking at you like your going to steal the store. All of their prices are marked up, even for HobbyTown. Other stores have the same prices that the websites have, they always mark it up anywhere from 1-2 more then retail. Not sure if Employees are pocketing that or not. Ive been coming here for years now, when i lived in Haltom City- Fort Worth- even when we moved to Waxahachie Tx Chrissy and Mr Jerald kept us happy and coming for more. Me and my wife have met pretty much every employee they've had for the last 3 or 4 yrs. Mr Brian the owner has always been very very helpful every time. I cant believe his manager James be allowed to talk to people so rudely..just called to ask about pinion size and he started getting smart with me and ended the phone call by hanging up on me. I've lost count how much i have spent at this store but that phone call ruined it for me. Apparently he has been doing this to other people also. Mr Brian i have tried calling you repeatedly but im always told your not their, i wanted to talk to you personally but i never could. Been to the Hurst location several times and they always have been very helpful and continue to order new stuff. I have a hobbytown closer but will travel farther to Hurst because of the service. I have had a few issues with products (not their problem) but they have taken care of it without any hassle. Well I just don't get these other reviews on here, I went in today with my son, 3 years old, and was met with hellos and how can we help you. The gentleman that helped me was Matt. Absolutely knew what he was talking about and was able to show me a lot of different RC cars that are similar to what I was looking for. Also I DID NOT purchase anything today, just was out for info and Matt was able to provide me with more information than I had previously gotten from any other store/forum. This place has policies just like other store. If you go into this store like you know better I can guarantee you will have a bad time. If you go here and are looking for an off-road RC truck/vehicle ask for Matt, this guy knows a heck of a lot and also owns/runs his own vehicles. I have shopped here twice. Once because I need info on a Nitro kit/car I had that I had no idea about and they gave me some great information. The second time, yesterday - a week later, to buy a Rock Crawler. 1. They have better hours than Roy's. 2. They seem very knowledgeable about their products. I have stopped shopping at Roy's because when I go in there I feel like an idiot when I leave since I am a rookie in the RC car category. They have a way of speaking to you like your questions are annoying them. (Additionally, I have shopped HobbyTown in S Arlington and have to tell you, on the RC side are the rudest, and most non social people in the world. The girl that works the trains and telescopes side, she is awesome, but still learning.) I like this particular HobbyTown because the girl and the guy with the beard have been nothing but helpful to me! They have taken the time to talk to me and help educate me. This is my RC store of choice, its not close, but for me, worth the drive. read more

Took my remote control car in to be serviced. They told me 2 weeks because they had to wait on some parts. I called back in 2 weeks and they said it wasn't ready. They also gave the old "don't call me, we'll call you." I called back 2 weeks later, which is now 4 weeks from when I dropped off the car, and they said they are still waiting on parts. For the want of $10, the store lost hundreds per year from me vowing to never purchase from them again. I was there for their Grand Opening. I described exactly the type of item I was looking for and what I needed it to do, and made sure they knew that if it didn't work out for my purposes, I had no use for the item and would need to try a different item instead. It goes without saying that their prices make it nearly impossible to risk throwing money at products that don't suit my needs. Regardless, I was never given the impression that I couldn't return it if it didn't work out. When it ends up *not* working out, and I repackage it *exactly* as I got it from them, I go to exchange it, and am asked if I had opened it. Stupidly being the honest person that I am, I told them yes. They said they could not accept it as a return or exchange. I even said I would give them my information to give to any other customer who purchased it, and if they had *any* problems with it, *I* would give that customer their money back. The most the owner/manager would do (in their FIRST week of business there) would be to give me $10 of the $20 I spent on it. So, in essence, I'd have paid $10 to them, and have NOTHING to show for it. Don't get me wrong, I'd have had no problem with their policy of no returns after opening IF I HAD BEEN MADE AWARE OF IT any time prior or during my purchase. The salesman who rang me up, it was his FIRST day there. Anybody else working there that day, other then the owner, had a week or less on the job. Apparently, after a lengthy discussion with said owner/manager, the only time they *might* make exceptions is if you're spending upwards of $400-500 there. At a time. I might have been able to drop a couple hundred there per year, but after my opening week's experience with them, NEVER will that branch see another dime from me. This is not a knee-jerk reaction review, this has been TWO YEARS of me being upset at how the situation was handled. Truly, this is a BUYER BEWARE scenario. read more

Don't waste your time and money coming here. The markups at this store are atrocious. Things I can find elsewhere are 50-150 bucks more here. I came in looking to see what they had for a Gundam model kit selection. They had an absolute trash selection and all WAY overpriced. I don't know who's pricing the stuff there but they clearly don't know what things are worth. Aside from the abysmal selection of what I came in for the staff was an experience all by themselves. Not in a good way. The second I came in and found the tiny section of what I was looking for I was immediately surrounded by 3 employees who acted like they were zoning. Ok odd, but not bad I guess. But not once did they ask if I needed help or even acknowledge my existence. I felt like a ghost who was being suspected of theft. Which is a weird concept all by itself. After much deliberation I got a few things and attempted to buy them. I say attempted because not one person was even near any of their counters. I tried asking who could check us out and the guy I asked ignored me and continued to price things. Mans got priorities clearly. So after about 10 minutes of waiting and continually asking other people who worked there for a checkout I finally was able to check out. Oh did I mention the terrible attitude the person who did help had? Zero eye contact and had an aura of "I really don't want to be here". After checking out I asked if they had a specific line of Model kits and nobody knew what I was talking about. Funny thing was it was something they sell in the store. Needless to say I will never go back there again. Not even for their massive selection of RC cars. Prices alone are enough to keep even the most needy hobby enthusiast away. Pile that on top of the worst staff I've ever dealt with and you've got yourself this hobby town. Horrible. Walmart has more engaging and happy employees.
