Initially, I was ecstatic when I learned that the culinary dead zone known as Shawnee, Oklahoma would be playing host to a Bricktown Brewery satellite location. But, upon several repeat visits, my ecstasy has turned to melancholy and indifference as I routinely drive by this place and never even realize it is there. To me, it doesn't exist anymore. That might seem a tad dramatic for what amounts essentially to a beer and burger joint but dammit it is an abomination on the local restaurant scene. And that, my dear readers, is not hyperbole...it is the damn truth! After giving this place five tries I have made a conscious decision to warn away anyone who thinks they will enjoy a brew and a burger here. Firstly, the service is abysmal on a good day, which is to say overstaffed and nonexistent. This location suffers from what I like to call Shawnee Service®. Shawnee Service® is the term given to restaurants in this area that hire tweens and high school kids who have no concept of service, are overstaffed with many just standing around while customers go without. It's not entirely the Bricktown Brewery's fault as they have to work with what they have but can't someone over 18 be visibly in charge here? Apparently not. I've sampled a variety of their menu items and their beers during my times here and they just aren't very good. They do try as the interior is very clean and the food does come out very professionally looking (usually - case in point is their curious Caesar salad that is nothing more than a huge wedge of seared lettuce) but one bite takes away any notion of a pleasing experience. In all honesty, you can get a better hamburger at Denny's! Of all places, the ubiquitous "diner" has a better hamburger than this self proclaimed burger joint. They also have very curious menu items like "Cornflakes and Catfish," and a "Pimento Cheeseburger." I've never had either but I do enjoy life enough not to order such heart attack inducing fare. The worse dish they offer is the grilled salmon. I should have known better, but as a semi health nut (at times) I decided that salmon it was for me. This salmon was so dry I wondered if it was even fish. Had this chunk of meat even seen water during its life? It seemed as it had not. Lesson learned. This place is not for a healthy eater, it is more fattening fodder for the local bovines, which can't help but fill their plates with the self proclaimed "Oklahoma's State Meal" chicken fried steak. I guess I shouldn't talk as their nachos are pretty damn good in all fairness and I did enjoy them once, but would never recommend going here just for that - or their homemade beers. I'm all for new things and local brewpubs but their beer is just plain bad. You'll be longing for a domestic of any sort after a few sips of their "Old King Kolsch," which they attempt to push on you ad naseum. During my five (or more - who can really remember it was all so mediocre) visits I have been appalled by everything from the service to the menu. Having been to the original Bricktown Brewery often over the years, I've always considered it mediocre at best -more a place to catch a concert (when they played host to them frequently) than as a destination. Imagine a smaller, worse version of the original flagship location in a small town where the meaning of service isn't quite understood with confusing serving hours and a menu that just makes you wonder "why?" and you will feel as if you have been. For some ungodly reason I have given my business to this place in excess of five times now, hoping each visit that it would somehow be better, but alas it just keeps going downhill. I suppose in a city like Shawnee I am just bored having scant few options so I keep going back - no more. I've quit you Bricktown Brewery and I shan't be back. It almost makes me long for the day when this location was a Garfield's. At least they had crayons so you could draw on the paper tablecloth while you waited for mediocre food. Here you just wait... And as all reviews can't be stellar, I find myself struggling to write a mediocre review for a mediocre place. Suffice it to say it sucks. Nuff said. read more

BEST BURGER I'VE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE!!! Their truckburger, made of 50% bacon, is AMAZING, and gets even more amazing when you add the sweet peppered bacon on top of that, which is sooo good whether its on a burger, loaded fries, or just to munch on. Seriously, if I had the money this would be a must-stop as far as the food goes. The reason I am docking a star isn't for the money, though. Stopped in with my wife and son for an early lunch. As I was looking at the beer menu, the waitress came up to take our drink order. She was fairly knowledgable about the beer selection. Only after I made my choice did she tell me I can't have beer before noon on Sunday (silly OK law). Ordered pulled pork nachos instead. They were very good. Unfortunately, the phenomena known as "Shawnee Service" as well as the 2nd law of thermodynamics may have put the nail in the coffin of this once-thriving eatery. From the perpetually slippery floors, to the torn and poorly worn seating upholstery, this place has seen better days. While I have enjoyed nearly forty meals from this kitchen over the past 18 months, I'm afraid my days of patronizing this establishment are numbered. While I'd love to say that these are the only issues, it seems that the owners of this establishment stuck to ultra-budget materials in other ways too. I'm not certain if my table was sticky, or if the sensation I felt was just the reality of a poorly finished wood table top, after many months of repeated use and cleaning. I'm truly disappointed to see such a (relatively) new establishment looking so shambled in such a short period of time. It's not that the food is terrible, as the kitchen staff can still put out a decent spread. The issue is really in the details. While I tried to enjoy the steak & shrooms I ordered yesterday evening, it was a few shades under medium and I simply couldn't handle all the blood on my plate. While I've been polite about this issue in the past, I'm afraid the kitchen staff may need another visit from the top brass before anything will get done. Get it together B-Town! I had a cheeseburger that is probably the worst I ever had. It was somewhat crowded but by the end of our visit there were very few customers left. We ordered an appetizer and that was brought out fairly quick. We munched on that for a while and waited and waited for the cheeseburger to come out. The waitress never gave us an update on our order on why it was taking so long. We decided it was taking too long as we had several stops to make. My husband flagged down our waitress and told her he couldn't wait any longer and just bring us our ticket. she apologized and said that things normally take longer because they're a 'scratch kitchen'. Really?? Our cheeseburger magically appeared. They did comp our meal. I started eating in the car and it only took 1 bite to realize the cheeseburger was totally burned and the inedible. Just ate there and the experience was so disappointing. The food was Ok but the bill was $80 for 3 people and although we each had 2 cocktails but I didn't feel as though I'd had any alcohol at all. The most awkward part was when the male waiter wearing heavy eye shadow and purple hair and introduced himself with a female name told one party member not to call him sir because " I'm trans". I was uncomfortable with his appearance to start with but when he called us out for an innocent polite response we all wanted to crawl under the table. read more

I really like this place. They have some Roughtail beers from MWC that are really good. I've only had three things from the menu: the dipping trio, the fried chicken sandwich and the bricktown club. They were all great. The bricktown club is probably my favorite, but the dipping trio is great too. I'm not sure if the chips are homemade but they're definitely good, thin and crispy. One star off for the bartender that handed me a bunch of cocktail napkins instead of a cloth napkin when I asked for some. Rookie mistake, I should have asked for silverware. They just opened a Bricktown Brewery by Tinker that I'll probably check out once the new wears off and it's not so crowded. read more

Second visit. Both both times were when I was in town for a family event. The beer is decently priced and comes highly recommended. We showed up with a party of eleven and were seated after an interminable thirty seconds wait. The burgers are big enough that you can actually split one. The BBQ is not Texas based... That just means you become a better person for being more well rounded. Ask for the sides fries, sweet potato fries, and homemade chips are good to go. Price is Mid range. They get the fourth and the fifth star. The staff made sure that my kids gluten-free meal was actually done right so she could enjoy her meal without being afraid. Stopped here to grab a meal before catching the show at Grand Casino. Had never been, so didn't know what to expect. Was pleasantly surprised. Austin was our waiter, and he did a great job. Looked after us, shared information about the show venue, kept our tea glasses full, and gave us an overall great experience. I had the chicken fried chicken and spouse had chicken strips. Not the preprocessed stuff you see so often. Great freshly prepared meal, with great flavor. The prices were very reasonable for the quality provided. The food isn't all that great. It's just okay. At some point, they took all the steaks off the menu. I'll never understand that. The burgers are so-so. The wait staff is okay, not rude by any means, just a bunch of kids earning a few bucks as servers. In general, I think this place has lost a lot of quality the longer it has been in Shawnee. It was a place of great excitement when it first came around, but now I could care less. Asked to taste a few of the local brews before ordering, and didn't find out until my buddy asked why the blueberry brew was sour. Beers on tap were too light, and not enough taste to warrant a purchase. Pretzel sticks w cheese were very great. Poutine was terribly over-salty. When one of the waitresses came to our table we let her know that we seated ourselves because no one came up, and the manager ended up comping all our food. A bunch of us decided to try out the Brewery for lunch. I ordered the boneless buffalo wings, some fries and an iced tea. It took about 30 minutes to get our lunch, which was no big deal because the wait staff was friendly enough and we were enjoying our visit. Upon being served, I ate one of the small bite sized wings. It was okay, but nothing special. Upon cutting the 2nd wing... raw chicken. Kind of ruins your appetite at that point. The waitress was notified, and the manager did come by our table and offer to make me some more, but by then the rest of the party was served and eating and I saw no point so I kindly declined. I ate the fries and drank the tea and left the rest of the chicken. Imagine my surprise, when the 17.95 bill arrived. For french fries and a glass of tea. Thankfully, our visit to Shawnee is over, and we'll never return. I would have been more than happy to pay for the fries and drink, but paying 9.00 for raw chicken, I don't imagine they'll be in business much longer. read more

Don't waste your time trying to order a craft beer. They are always out. I'm gonna take a wild stab in the dark and guess that the manager is a shawnee super star and don't understand that if your selling a lot maybe you should order more. The best thing about this place is the craft beer and that isn't looking good. Skip the greasy, melted fish battered, cheese curds. For the $8 you can get a "Shawnee party pack" 30 pack of stones, pepto, tube of prep H and pack of ravage cigs and at least be drunk while you lose control of your bowels. read more
