I have found my tailor! A few days before my July 2013 wedding I decided to get a second dress that I could bust a move in for our first dance. I found a great gown at Dori Anne's and Maria happened to be in the shop at the time--which was serendipitous because the dress was a bit big and needed a jacket, straps or other type of coverage on top. Not only was Maria able to turn everything around in the few days before my wedding, but she designed beautiful 3/4 length sleeves to add to the dress (see pictures). It turned out perfectly! Her pricing is very affordable, and Maria is just the sweetest soul to chat with while she's taking measurements and putting the finishing touches on alterations. Her work was impeccable. She altered my Maggie Sottero wedding dress that had a lot of bead work. It is now amazing. She also fixed my husbands suit. Maria is wonderful! She did an amazing job on my daughter's very intricate, crystal-laden wedding dress, so I took the dress that I bought for my son's wedding to her. It has a lot of delicate lace and ribbons and again her work was great. Her prices are also incredibly reasonable; in fact, I actually tried to pay her extra for my dress because I knew that she had spent a lot of time on it but she would not accept it. Where to even begin with Maria... She has to be one of the sweetest people out there. With over 30 years of experience in the bridal/alterations business, she's probably well surpassed the level of expert. I wasn't too keen on spending a ton of money on a dress that I'm most likely going to wear once and for probably 9 hours at most. So I ended up buying a sample dress from a consignment store. It was several sizes too big, but it was the label and style I wanted. Friends told me to anticipate spending a bit of money on alterations. Ugh. So I went to several alterations places to compare. I went to a place in Alameda, Oakland, Castro Valley, and Milpitas. Every single place, I just felt like another gown on their rack, an invoice number. Estimates at each place were pretty similar, except for one place in CV that wanted to charge me as much as I bought my dress for. eek. Most of the places said I'd get 1 to 2 fittings, then I pick up the dress. Then I came upon Maria's Yelp page. Even though it lists her as in Castro Valley, she's actually in San Jose. So during my lunch hour at work, I drove out there and met with her. She was sweet, talkative (be prepared to listen to a lot of her life stores), and very knowledgeable. She was also the only person who didn't give me a hard time about wanting to change the sash. I didn't like the sash that came with the dress - one place wanted to just sew another sash over it, while another lady said ti was too much work and to just let it be. Maria was the only one who said it wouldn't be a problem. She worried that I wouldn't pick her because she wasn't set up at some fancy bridal boutiques, instead she works out of her home. I didn't care. I just needed someone who was willing to put the effort and care into altering the dress to the right fit for me. I'm beyond happy that I went with Maria. We had several fittings, and never once did she ever need to measure me. She eyeballed everything and everything came out perfectly. The new sash she put on my dress was exactly how I envisioned it. I loved it. She even gave me a discount. She's so sweet. I highly highly highly recommend Maria for any and all of your bridal alterations. She also makes dresses as well. read more

I would like to give her 10 or 20 stars if i could. My wedding was last March. It might be a little late, but I wanted to show my appreciation to her by writing a review. Maria was so sweet and helpful when I called her to make an appointment that I did not hesitate to drive to San Jose, where she is currently located. My dress that I ordered online was a bit too small around my under bust, where I thought I only needed an alternation, but she kindly suggested to shorten the length also, which was a little too long for me and I would trip in front of the guests and family if I wore it as it was. Maria did not even measure my body, so i asked her if she needed to. she was absolutely talented, and knew my size by just EYE-BALLING. I was totally freaked out because I had only two weeks until the wedding when visiting her place for my first appointment. She assured me, telling me she would be able to fix the problems in a week. When I visited her again to pick my dress up, the dress perfectly fit to my body. She beautifully alternated my dress and kindly put some additions so I can wear it more comfortably. (she put some strings around decoration buttons on the side of torso to make those buttons actually work, and a hook on the back of the dress so I can make it even shorter if i want to. I wanted to drag the end of the dress at the ceremony, but not at the restaurant where we headed for a casual celebration party.) She did not charge for the thoughtful additions. I was so tensed and stressed out with preparing for the big day and my family couldn't come to the wedding because they were living far away from the US. But she made me feel a lot better by sharing how her own wedding was with me. Her words meant a lot to me. Maria is one of the sweetest lady I have ever met. She did my super complicated- beads, lace, sequins, the whole works wedding dress as well as my MOH dresses. She did such an amazing job! I trusted her after a few conversations over the phone and she definitely knew everything and anything about alterations. She knows the importance of a girl's special day so she was very conscientious with what she was going to alter, where she was going to alter, and how she was going to alter. I bought my dress from David's bridal but it didn't have the details that I really wanted. I went to another alterations lady and wasn't too impressed as she was not supportive of my vision. By chance a friend recommended Maria and although she was a bit of drive from Oakland to her new location in San Jose I was willing to make the drive. I explained that I wanted an illusion neckline and had no idea how we could do it. She said I didn't need it because it looked great, but that if I felt more comfortable with it then we could do it. She's such a pro she doesn't even need to pin anything. We teamed together to get the right lace and it truly became my dream dress and I felt so great in it. She makes you feel so comfortable and lets you know that she will do everything to make you feel beautiful. She works out of her home which is apparently a deal breaker for some but if you care more about great work then you can overlook that as her house is extremely clean anyways. What I loved the most about Maria is that she is painstakingly meticulous and does not miss a trick. ATTENTION BRIDES: this is a quality you need in someone who is altering your wedding dress!!! I had anxiety about entrusting my dress to a perfect stranger but after meeting Maria I completely felt at ease. Living in LA made it hard to schedule dress fittings but Maria graciously let me come to her home studio on weekend nights just so I could get a fitting in. She went above and beyond to work around my schedule and was an absolute dream to work with. Not only did my dress fit and look perfect but she also steamed/ pressed/ fluffed it in a way I had never even seen before!
