First off, I'm selfishly reluctant to write this review, because I adore Theodora so much that I'm scared that once everyone discovers this hidden gem, it'll take forever to book her for myself! LOL. However, luckily for me (and you all), she was recommended to me, and I feel it's only right to pay it forward...... Theodora has now served as my hairstylist for BOTH routine hair care (i.e. highlights, haircut) and bridal hairstyling for my big day. Routine Hair Care: Theodora always uses Redken bleach (for those curious gurus out there) for coloring, including for my full head of blonde highlights. She also does my layered haircuts. I can't tell you how many compliments I've gotten (including from random strangers on Michigan Avenue) ever since she's been doing my hair. The icing on the cake? It all was $95 and took two hours. UNBELIEVABLE. She does charge an extra $5-$10 for a blowdry depending on the type of hair you have. She also does a deep conditioning treatment (DIVINE!) for about $5. All her prices are extremely reasonable. Bridal Hairstyling: She offered a very affordable trial ($50) and was extremely flexible about meeting times. On the day of the wedding, Theodora showed up 15 minutes early. Yes, she travels to you! I cannot tell you how invaluable this service is on a hectic wedding day. She did blow-outs for both Moms and low chignons for the 4 bridesmaids. She also did a half up-do with curls for myself. It took her about 4 hours total to do all 7 of our heads. The hairstyles lasted all day and night and even through the following day for myself. The icing on the cake? It was all $450 total. Theodora is an extremely great listener and fully "gets" your ideas. Her real talent is taking the idea a notch further making your hair look THAT MUCH BETTER. Invaluable, I'm telling you. Theodora was the stylist for my wedding weekend and I can't say enough good things about her. First, she is such a warm person, and that truly made the whole experience of getting ready for the big day a great one. She is also a professional at what she does, listens to what you want, and executes your vision exactly. She was able to create two different looks for me on two separate occasions. On my pre-wedding mehndi celebration, she created a gorgeous vintage look that was flawless, blended well with my outfit, and lasted the whole night. For my wedding reception, she not only created a beautiful updo that held throughout the night, but she pinned my dupatta (veil) and placed my headpiece jewels perfectly. That is the most stressful part of getting ready as a South Asian bride, but I had no problems with anything moving out of place or anything feeling heavy on my head. My wedding party also loved all their looks and she gave great suggestions on what would suit each person's face type and executed it perfectly. Theodora made my bridal Pinterest dreams come true and more! I showed up to the trial with some pictures and ideas already in mind and even though my hair was a little too layered for the exact look I wanted Theodora worked hard to come up with something even better! The day of I changed my mind about a few things and Theodora was more than accommodating. She did hair for me, my two bridesmaids, my mom and even fit it my aunt last minute. She really listened to what everyone asked for and made changes until everyone was completely satisfied. I found Theodora through Google when I was searching for a hair stylist for myself and my bridesmaids for my wedding day. I spoke with her on the phone and she was so kind and offered very fair pricing to come to our hotel and style hair for myself, 5 bridesmaids, 3 mothers and 1 flower girl! A couple months prior to the wedding I went to her in-home salon to have a trial. She worked off of pictures I brought and also customized my look so it was exactly what I wanted. She took pictures to make sure she was able to replicate it once the wedding day arrived. I was also very appreciative as she gave me some great tips to make sure my hair was in the best shape possible for my style on the wedding day. On the actual wedding day, Theodora arrived at our downtown hotel early and she worked ALL day on our hair. I used Theodora for my large 10/2012 wedding party. She does fantastic work. She is very detailed oriented and does not hesitate to keep perfecting until every hair is where you want ti to be! I was simply amazed at how she got my hair to curl and HOLD it when it never has before. One of my FAVORITE things about here was that she wanted me to wash my hair. Usually they tell you to keep your hair "dirty" which I HATE because my fine thin hair goes from blond to brown and looks GROSS when I do that. She is also VERY FAIRLY priced. She also cuts hair and highlights hair as well....and is again fairly priced for this. She had a huge amount of thin haired ladies with hair barely to their shoulders to work with and all my dear friends looked stunning for my wedding. Theodora was absolutely amazing to work with. She did my hair, all four of my bridesmaids, and my mom's hair. Everyone's hair looked absolutely amazing and everyone's hair held up throughout extreme dancing and Chicago's humidity. I was outdoors most of the day and since I didn't have a wedding coordinator was running around outdoors all day answering questions and even setting up the reception site along with all my bridesmaids to give a perspective of how out of control our hair could have wound up being.
