Nice hair by the woman she was amazing with my hair cut my only complaint is the owner when I went to pay insisted I leave a 18% and said you have too. I thought that was a bit unprofessional and rude as i was going to tip but he was frustrated I didn't want to tip the 18%. I recently got laid off and couldn't do a 18% or 20% tip like I normally do. When I left He handed me the receipt I said thank you have a great day and he was upset and said nothing with a bit of a frown on his face. I understand times are tough but not all customers can leave a 18% tip on a $50 dollar hair cut. He needs to be more professional. I'm not sure if I'll be back there are Many more salons in the area that are Korean and don't haggle you for a tip read more

Worst Barber I ever went to. When he was cutting I told him to stop but he kept on cutting. i told not that short he said trust me. I told to cut 1/7 of my hair he cut half of it off. I started going to Modern Hair Salon before the pandemic happened. Mr and Mrs Yang are very talented hairstylists and they are very caring and warm people. They provide quality service, and are honest in what suits your hair type and face shape best. Mrs Yang (Jin) has always taken her time with my long hair and makes sure I leave with beautiful styled hair every visit. I have no complaints and always leave feeling very satisfied with my hair. Yes, the cost of service is not the cheapest and it's honestly understandable with their years of experience and knowledge. I have been going to Mr Yang for more than eight years. He provides quality and very fast service (usually about 20-30min with hair wash). I am pretty particular about my hair as my head shape is not easy to work with. But he makes sure it is even. If you want quality, fast, personal care, Mr Yang is the guy. His prices are very reasonable and I always leave feeling like I got a great haircut. Post covid times - he makes sure everyone is screened and socially distanced. Mr Yang has been cutting my family's hair for 10+ years, from my mom all the way down to my 16 mo old toddler. He and his wife are both very experienced hairdressers from South Korea. Price is reasonable. They are very accommodating and just overall lovely people. My husband and I were both impressed by how well they were with our toddler. He didn't cry at all with his first haircut experience. The place is clean and they follow covid guidelines. Everyone wears a mask. HORRIBLE. Worst first experience. I asked for a consultation before making an appointment and I showed the picture(see below) of what I wanted and the OWNERS said it was doable. May 7th was when I set the appointment, once again I showed the picture and got this(picture below). Before I paid I asked about my hair and that it was not blue AT ALL. The person who did my hair told me that the blue will kick in after the FIRST WASH. After couple of washes the blue has not kicked in like she said. It's been over a month and now my hair IS A GREY/GREEN COLOR. I've called the place now and asked if they can fix my hair or if I can talk to a manager and owner to figure something out, but they were rude and told me to shut up and refused to pass me along to a manager. I PAID $600+ FOR THIS. As an 18y/o I've saved up my money for this, and for this to all go to waste for something that I am not happy with at all. I beg people NOT TO GO HERE PLEASE, they were rude,unprofessional, and the salon was not clean. read more

Mindy has been cutting my hair since I was 16 or 17. I am now 27! I followed her from another salon to Modern Hair. I don't trust to go to anyone else to cut my hair! When I was in college, I'd stop in when visiting the fam. Now, I commute from the city just to stop in. She is very good - I have kind of gotten the same cut in different variations throughout the years. I've also done bleach/highlights a couple times with her. My co-worker invited me to go with him to this salon. Lucky for me, I was in the mood to also get my haircut! Never had I gone to a salon where my hair dresser washed my hair, so this is a first for me. It was relaxing being pampered this way. After that, the hairdresser, Mr. Yang, expertly styled my hair. I am so very much in love with how it turned out. Mr. Yang made me feel comfortable with light conversations. He has a thick Korean accent, so it took a bit to understand. He is wonderful nonetheless. I never felt so pretty after a haircut. I'm giving this place a 4/5 stars because the price for a women's haircut here is $35, which is more than I normally pay at other places. (Then again, my go-to place is a hair cuttery for men, but the lady who cuts my hair there is phenomenal with women cuts). If planning on going to this salon, I recommend bringing cash tips because that is what they prefer. They are able to accept tips with your credit/debit card though. Overall, I am won over with this salon, especially Mr. Yang. I would go back here in the summer time to maintain my haircut, or maybe even get my hair colored for the summer (if I ever feel extra-spontaneous). read more

My boyfriend goes to this salon every month or so and his hair always looks great. I, on the other hand, am super picky about where I do my hair because who wants a bad haircut? But I have been wanting to cut my hair for a while now. My boyfriend recommended I try this salon. The hair stylists (wife and husband) are very experienced and have been in this business for 20 years + so I wasn't against trying it out. However, still skeptical haha. I have always had really long hair (down to the lower back) and was thinking about going short for a change. Again, I am very picky about where I get my hair done even if I have to pay a very expensive price. My boyfriend was getting his hair cut and suggested I get mine right now too. I was a little nervous but there was no need to be. My hair stylist (wife) did such an amazing job. I showed her a few pictures of what I wanted my hair to look like and she gave me exactly that. So shocked and very pleased. I am in love with my new cut and am planning on going here again. Price was $40 which to me, is a great price considering I had very long and thick hair. Service was good. Stylist took her time and concentrated on giving me the perfect look. No beverages or snacks were offered but that was completely okay with me. I didn't make an appointment but she took me in right away, no problem. They have moved to a new location in Glenview on Milwaukee Ave, inside a small plaza. All in all, so happy with my hair.
