What the heck happened? Last year, they ran the farmers market with no farmer. This year, there's no market at all.

Now Yelpers, listen up, do you SUFFER from Hayfever like I do??…read moreHere's a secret to save you money and make you less miserable: Buy local honey at this market (a bottle is $10--way cheaper than OTC Zertec or Claritin) and eat a tablespoon a day. Before you know it, your allergies will be gone. Why?! Because the bees roam around the city and pollinate from the same plants that give your that runny nose and those itchy eyes. Think of it as a painless immunization. The beekeeper has her beehives right behind at her Carpenter Street house. If you really get into it, you can work a deal with the caring beekeeper to purchase a huge bucket for several months. And the honey is BEE-LICIOUS! (yes, that was lame). More Good News: Gosh, what a cute cultural market! The salespeople are so sweet and friendly. The love for what they specialize in or do shines through in their smiles. The market is like none of the others in the city due to its Latin American cultural roots and flavors. They have private, original art for sale (meet the artisans themselves), fresh vegetables, breakfast items, coffee/tea/mate, delicious-looking pastries, dog treats, and my favorite...local honey products. They even have a great looking website (listed above). The Bad News: While it is VERY small (10 tents possibly), they have a great variety of local products. Bring cash! :) The VERY Bad News: You'll have to wait until next year ;(. The market only runs (well this past year) on Sundays from July 27th until October 26th 9 am to 2 pm. ---- Featured in the Weekly Yelp-Chicago "Farmers Market Almanac" on June 2, 2009: http://www.yelp.com/weekly?editorial_id=W8Z6vofGex0KswvVq8Uxhw

Agreed, it's a small Farmer's Market but still worth a visit. I always feel great about supporting…read morelocal farmers and merchants and the bonus is I get good treats to eat. Today we stopped there after grabbing some coffee on 18th and Carpenter ;-). We picked up some juicy tomatoes, corn, onions, grape tomatoes, potatoes and garlic. I also grabbed some chicken and mole and ground beef and potatoes empanadas on the way out for our lunch. We reheated them on the panini grill at lunch time. I also scored some fun peach jam. Can't wait to go back next week and try the fresh bread, pastries, vegetarian tamales and tarts. I figure we will take our own "carry out" bags to do good for the environment and take a blanket with so we can turn our Farmer's Market walk into a Sunday picnic. Farmer's Market ends Oct. 28 for 2013. I'm sad I didn't start going sooner but I plan on grabbing some treats from now til then.

With this size, there is an excellent variety of goodies to buy. I don't just mean across categories, but also within them. For example, there are several vendors selling meats, cheeses, fruits/veggies, hot sauces, and so on. Speaking of variety, it seems that vendors change on occasion - a good reason to get something that I like rather than putting it off, and to come back again and again. This may partially explain why there is no map available. I don't know what happens on the back-end, as the only map I could find was from 2021. As nice as walking around and exploring is, having a guide of some kind would be very helpful. This becomes doubly valuable considering some vendors are selling prepared foods. On that note, some more eating areas would be welcome. The prices are on the high side, as can be expected from a Farmer's Market. That said, $4/pound for albeit organic potatoes seems very high. Thankfully for my wallet, I did not arrive hungry, or I would have thrown dollars to the wind. Final verdict: As far as Farmer's Markets go, Green City Market is great! You can find a wonderful variety, and every week can be a new adventure. Prices are very high, but that is to be expected. While the idea is that you buy something, there is no obligation to. Would return?: Absolutely, leaving room for breakfast or lunch, depending on when I go Would reccomend?: Yes, for the adventure if nothing else. Who knows, you might walk out with a jar of honey you loved after sampling.

While walking around, I kept smelling something really good and basically followed the scent until I found the Baked Cheese Haus booth. Soon as I saw them scraping all that melted cheese over the sandwiches, I already knew I was getting one. I went with the Jambon Cru. Melted raclette scraped over cured ham on toasted baguette with spring onions, baby gherkins, and Dijon. And wow... this thing was a cheesy overload. So much melted cheese, rich, creamy, and warm. The baguette was toasted with that nice crunch, sturdy enough to hold all of it together. Then the gherkins and Dijon came in and cut through all that richness with a little tang and sharpness, which made every bite better. Messy, cheesy, a little ridiculous honestly. The whole market has such a fun vibe too. Busy, lots of people walking around, fresh produce everywhere, live energy all around. The people at the booth were super friendly too. Now I'm seriously about to go to Wisconsin just to find them again.

I'll plan on coming here again to try the tamales. So many great options to choose from however there should be a regulation on how fresh goods are displayed - served. Everything should be wrapped up individually or encased in some sort of covering. Many people were outside coughing dogs were shaking their hair which made getting the fresh baked goods un appealing because I literally saw hair fly all onto the fresh baked goods. Gross! Hopefully they can get some regulation in there because everything looked so good! There is parking around that area you will have to pay. Be sure to try the Matcha tea! I had the strawberry & mango Matcha it was delicious.

While I love the LP green city farmers market, it's incredibly crowded and if you have a car, good luck finding parking. This west loop location is smaller. There are fewer venders here than the other location, but there are far less people and finding parking isn't difficult at all. The park is also beautifully shaded and hilly. Clusters of tents are spread out a bit. You could miss a few if you don't walk around. As much as I love all of the bakery representation at the LP location, I will frequent the green city market in the west loop instead. It's so much less of a headache

The market only has a few vendors, but they are really great. I love going to look at the flowers and usually grab a pastry and coffee to take home. There are several produce and meat/egg stands, but I find everything to be a little too pricey for me to justify buying much. However, they do triple match Illinois Link! I wish the market had a few more vendors, as it gets crowded quickly and the lack of competition favors the high prices, but it is a nice thing to do each weekend. I appreciate that it is dog friendly so I can bring my dog with me to get some socialization in.

Although it was not the most pleasant day weather - wise - - gray and somewhat drizzly at times AND my favorite vendor, Sputnik Coffee is no longer participating, I still enjoyed the market today. I really enjoyed chatting a little with some of the vendors: Pixie Dust Salts - sea salt mixtures like vanilla, lavendar, rosemary ; John Bailey Honey (Keisha is a delightful young lady that introduced me to the products) - not only honey, various fruit jams, applesauce ; two produce vendors : Steve Frank Farms and Cedillo's Fresh Produce. There's Running Mile Hot Sauce and Yvolina's Tamales. There was an info booth about using Link cards at farmers markets and another about the McKinley Park News. There was also a face painter. Take care of your instructor! There was a cool truck with free pizza samples. Cauliflower crust tho. My brother loves that but I'm old fashioned. A bakery had a wide array of cookies. Hot sauce table. Only one produce vendor that I can recall. The organizers need to step up their efforts to get farmers into the farmers market. That's the draw for city people: produce. How about herb vendors? Cheese? This is a great spot and this FarMar needs more attention.

From outside in, the parking sucks. All very narrow street parking. Good luck. Then just finding the market is a challenge. An almost unmarked door just down from a coffee shop. What is this, some kind of speakeasy? Once you're in you're looking at two rooms of about 8 vendors per room. Kinda weak. And only maybe 2 of them were actual "farmers". The others had juices or baked goods or breakfast burritos or whatever. Not bad, just not exactly farmers market items en mas. The venue is...weird. It's like an artist coop or something. Really poorly suited to the market. The first thing I noticed was the smoke from cooking (burned?) breakfast foods hanging in the air. Less than ideal. The prices are stupid. Like stupid high. Sure, you expect that from "artisanal", "organic", "small batch", etc stuff. But this was over the top. $8 for a loaf of bread less than 1/3 of a loaf at any other bakery is stupid. The vendors are great, the quality is great. The space, both inside and out sucks, and the prices border on criminal. I suggest you look around for other venues if you are on a budget.
