Where to start? From the beginning would be a good idea. I have had several issues with AAA Auto…read moreService. 1. My Expedition needed new tires. Fine. Had AAA order them, and install. When I went to pick up the vehicle I notice a $200 charge for "tire insurance." When I questioned the line item I was told that I had agreed to the service. I had not. The service adviser then challenged my comment stating that I had signed the agreement. Yes, my initials were on the order, but at no time was I asked if I wanted "tire insurance" for new tires. I got into an argument with the service adviser when asking for a credit. Finally, he relented and a credit was issued. Point here: never, ever argue with a customer. 2. Took the Expedition in earlier this week for a state inspection actually believing that it would fail due to possibly needing new brake pads and rotors. Amazingly enough it passed. The next issue follows the inspection. 3. Even before taking the Expedition inspection I noticed a slight vibration through the steering wheel. This persisted even after the "inspection" by AAA Auto. So, I decided to take the vehicle to local shop to chase down the cause. Here are the results: a. all the wheels were out of balance. b. the lug nuts on one wheel were stripped on the outside so if I had a flat there would be no way for me to remove the lug nuts much less the tire. The folks at AAA Auto strike again. c. all the brake pads and rotors were toast. Therefore, they needed replacement. So why did the Expedition pass state inspection? Was AAA Auto hoping that I would notice increased vibration and return so they could do the brake work? I have no idea. Fortunately the work was done by a very reputable local shop. Bottom line: DO NOT EVER TAKE YOUR VEHICLE TO AAA AUTO. EVER!! I certainly won't.

They really stressed how bad the brakes were, with the report stating the rear brakes were "metal on metal." We understood that the rear left brake needed to be replaced. However, they then recommended replacing the brake pads and rotors on the entire car and gave us an estimate of around $1,390. Before agreeing, we had the car assessed by a trusted professional, who determined that only the rear left rotor and brake pads actually needed to be replaced. Everything else was fine, and we were able to remove the surface rust ourselves. I will say that I did appreciate the pictures they provided with the inspection because they were helpful in showing us what they found. However, the way the brake issue was emphasized made it seem like the entire braking system was in terrible condition when, in reality, only one area needed repair. We ended up buying the parts ourselves and saved hundreds of dollars compared with their estimate. I understand shops have labor and parts markups, but the recommendation for a full brake replacement felt excessive and unnecessarily expensive. Definitely get a second opinion before agreeing to a large repair estimate.

Hyundai service basically wanted to replace the entire unit to the tune of about $4K. Asked Tim and Wayne of Saville's to have a look to see if they could figure it out. After determining system was fully charged and not leaking, they diagnosed that it was a bad blower resistor. After a run-around from the Hyundai dealer in getting the resistor, Wayne found another source for the part. They installed and the A/C has been working perfectly for the past month...and the bill was less than $1K! These guys have gotten an A+ from me in the past for not only their knowledge, but more importantly my trust in their work and guidance. They've never given me any indication that they're feeding me a line of BS or trying to upsell me, and they always keep me in the loop with anything they encounter. He worked with us to make it right and they did a good job fixing the hood and the latch. Hopefully the receptionist is retrained and not enabled to treat other people like she treated me. I called and asked about pricing. The cost (whether jump start or battery) was reasonable. Mr. Ayala said he'd pick up the battery on the way just in case - having gotten the information I had on hand for my make and model, and my equipment preference if it came to that. He also said that I wouldn't be charged for the battery if it wasn't needed - regardless of him making this outlay. As promised, he showed up about 45 minutes after our call - this is with him driving up to Baltimore. When he arrived, Mr. Ayala looked at the battery, said it was 2 years old, no corrosion - relatively young for the equipment. That it probably would be just a jump start (I had left the car sitting for too long). He then promptly walked me through the steps to jump it, while attaching the cords to the outlets. The car started. Then he had me turn it off without the cords attached to check that it still started, which it did. The service was $85. Perfectly reasonable. Convenient and timely, as well, and I found him to be pleasant and knowledgeable.
