2 Stars is fitting overall. I don't know how this place has the reviews it does, I genuinely was excited to see the community pour so many thoughtful reviews but now I'm not sure. I paid over $450 to assess why my air wasn't cooling at a expected rate Ex: 20 minutes to just become slightly cooler & then barely cool once it finally gets there. This did not include dyes to check for leaks, this didn't add refrigerant (apparently was pretty under utilized for a 2015 car, which may be a clue in itself since I've never had this serviced), this didn't charge fans, this didn't change filters, fluids, this was strictly a "diagnostic" fee. The next step was to add dyes and maybe check into the condenser & compressor .. which wasn't made clear if that had been assessed for performance or not. I don't know what that would have cost! I didn't get further communication on this. My air is still not performing or improved, as I'd hope and I'm out near $500. I've been going to this place over the last 6 years for here and there services. I've mostly been fine with those minor services but the price is definitely steeper than others in the area. I didn't mind because as the reviews would show - they don't press and harass you to do more .. and I figured they likely have an edge in quality based on reviews (I do lack experience with mechanics). Either way, I have tried numerous times to get my records from this business so that I could keep track of my oil changes and services, as well as to have in hand the record of the air conditioning diagnostics already performed ...so that I can actually fix the issue. To which voicemails have not provided any call backs, one time I got through to a nice woman (do not recall name), told her what I was looking for, she said to call "Donna" (manager I believe) at another number .. so I do that, speak with Donna twice asking for this information, she takes name & number and says she'll get back to me, still I wait, weeks go by, nothing. I showed up to this place of business just a few minutes before closing on a Friday afternoon. I explained to the owner what was happening with my vehicle. He went out side where I had parked. It was at least 98 degrees outside at this time, he looked at the wheel where he pushed on the back cover of the wheel assembly. The rock that was inside that area popped out. Problem fixed!!! I did visit two other sights to look at my problem and neither one would step out side to see my problem. Love this place. Ready to be regular customers... We have had some challenges finding a reliable place to have routine auto service. Previous places were either too far away or trying to up the bill for an oil change to several hundred dollars by "finding stuff." This family-run business was easy to reach and clearly not pushing repairs on us that we did not need. When I had questions about the need for brake replacement, I felt no pressure. When I picked up the car and had questions about some of the items billed, I was able to speak to the mechanic that did the work and was not made to feel uncomfortable about it. Being an amateur mechanic, I am very critical of auto repair services and find that its hard to find honest mechanics. Due to lack of time on my part, I took one of our cars to Catoctin Automotive to fix a leaking AC issue. I already knew which part need to be replaced and the cost of the part. These guys identified the same part, charged me the actual cost of the part, and had fair prices on completing the work. They also identified a couple other issues I had missed since I don't have a lift and I gave them the go-ahead to fix them. Like I said, its hard to find honest mechanics and I'm glad I have these guys to go to if I need another pair of hands. read more

After getting sticker shock over the dealership quote to replace a timing belt, water pump and drive belts, I requested a quote via Yelp from Catotcin Automotive, based on the glowing reviews here. I had the quote and a follow up courtesy call from Tony in less than a hour following my request. Had a very good experience. They worked with me on the cost of installing two new axels and an air conditioning condenser for my Highlander. I brought my Highlander in and was told it would be ready the next day. I received a phone call early the next day explaining I had a seized wheel bearing and would need an additional part that would take a day or so for the dealer to bring in. They explained it would be another $180 for the part but the labor price would stay the same. I thought that was very fair so I agreed. About 15 minutes later I received another call saying how they were able to free and remove the old seized bearing and won't need the new part and I could come pick up the truck as planned. That was how great this shop is. I highly recommend them to anyone that needs work done on their vehicle. read more

Walked in praying for best case scenario of waiting 90 minutes and sinking $150. Walked out in 10 minutes and putting in $20, all issues resolved. Come here. Reviews aren't joking. Would give it six stars if I could. --STORY-- My car failed the safety inspection, and required two new tires and reworking of the parking brake. I called more than 5 places around Sterling and Leesburg. Two new tires were quoted between $280 - $350 (~$140 each), and brake work ranged from $200 - 300 including labor (around $110/hour), totaling anywhere from $500 - 650. Talked to Caleb at this shop. He was honest, said brakes may just require an adjustment. I missed the Friday morning appointment, so I rescheduled for Monday morning. I arrive at 8:10am and meet the owner, Mr. Rollins. He remembers it's about the parking brake (I got my wheels done elsewhere,* read below). He finishes his tire installation on another car in three minutes, comes back and asks for keys and says he'd look. Mind you, assessments are $40 - $50 if you don't get the work done there. At this point I think this is still worth the $50 assessment from some honest folk who I hope would cut me a deal. Next ten minutes, I hear some cranking in the shop you can see through windows. I pace myself hoping for some good news. 8:23am Mr. Rollins comes back with the car, and says, "You're all set." I look back, puzzled. So it's just an adjustment? Yeah. I just tweaked it. Still puzzled, I repeat what his words. He confirms, he finished the adjustment. Baffled, I ask how much it'll be. $20. I drive out 15minutes after arrival, all issues resolved. Go straight to safety inspection place (Auto Solutions, Leesburg), I pass with flying colors. Thank you Catoctin. I'll be sending plenty of business your way. This is the place you want to come to. If your chief complaint is that it doesn't have nice amenities, I think you're probably looking for a coffee shop down the road. My car broke down on the side of the road (was turning on and off as I drove) and after searching yelp for good places to tow it, I came across Catoctin auto and it was impressed by the full five star reviews... so I called and found out they were closing in 2 hours and asked if I could get my tow to them. They said yes, and that I could leave it there overnight and they would get to it as soon as possible! So I did get it towed there and they were very kind and helpful. Then they called the following day to say it was finished. The prices were very reasonable and the wonderful service. I will surly take my car here for anything. 100% recommend. read more

Totally positive experience... car just went over 200k - service light came on, but at the same time, it had been acting up when I started it. I gave it the 'internet diagnosis' went to Catoctin - told him what I thought it was... turned out the battery was just failing. He recommended a couple fluid changes ( trans fluid was brown!). Absolutely amazing shop. I went to the "Tire Shop" in Leesburg which has since been bought out by AAA. I went to Catoctin Automotive for a second opinion on the $1,900 repair the other shop told me I needed to have on my vehicle. Catoctin automotive lifted my car, did a complete evaluation and found nothing wrong with my vehicle. The repairs AAA told me I needed were completely bogus. Thank god for Catoctin Automotive. FIRST OFF ID LIKE TO SAY THAT I HATE TAKING MY CAR PLACES TO GET WORK DONE!! I FEEL LIKE EVERY SHOP IS OUT TO GET YOU & YOUR MONEY!! I'VE BEEN SEARCHING HIGH AND LOW FOR A TRUSTWORTHY SHOP AND I CAN CONFIDENTLY SAY THE SEARCH IS OVER!!! =) (excuse the caps, but i feel very strongly about the statements above!) I took my car in based on a recommendation from two of my friends. My car's wheel were making a funny noise and my steerling wheel was shaking and I was honestly scared to continue driving. Thats when I decided to try out Catoctin Automotive. I dropped it off after hours. My car was ready to go by the next day. Turns the person before who worked on my car had put the wrong size screws and my wheels were about to pop off. I picked up my car and everything was perfect! My second experience there was equally as satisfying. My cars breaks were squealing horribly so I took my car in this morning and was able to pick it up by lunch time! Turns out a piece hold my brake was broken and just needed to be replaced. No one tried to up selling anything I didn't need! Oh and I mention I got an oil change too! I highly recommend this as honest mechanics who are not charging ridiculous prices are hard to find. Mike the owner is happy to make a decent living but lives by the mantra of an honest work for honest pay. You will not find any frills so stop going to the dealer to pay exorbitant costs for your rental car during service, AC and a few snacks while you wait for your overpriced estimate that is full of BS. Heck if you give up the amenities and are willing to hop on a bus to get back and forth or call Enterprise for your own rental car and find this place you will save literally THOUSANDS of dollars over paying lying dealer prices in this area. The difference is this is a small family owned business started by a man who loves the work he does and is happy to provide good service to others. If something is out of scope of the shop's knowledge they readily acknowledge such and refer to where you can get someone who knows (but honestly that is rare, but engine repairs should have engine specialist for example). read more
