To be pleased staying here, you must keep your expectations aligned with the price of the motel. First and foremost, this venue is a very inexpensive place to stay in Mackinaw City. $87 for a night on October 5th. Off-season and a deal. The location is another stellar draw. It's right on the water. Nice playground, sandy beach, area to wade in if you desire and fire pits. Wood comes at a close by location and you must purchase it and bring it to the site. The view of the bridge at night and the sunrise in the morning is amazing. I enjoyed walking along the water morning and at dusk. The outside of the motel is more attractive than the dated, yet-to-be-remodeled smallish rooms. The outside area is well kept, simple and appears to be safe. Cars close to rooms are a convenience. The check in procedures were quick and easy. Really nice staff. Our cable box was not working. The staff member who fixed it was slow to arrive but polite and efficient. Our room was small. It was "cozy" and met our needs. Most important, it was clean dated. Needs a good paint job and carpet cleaning. The tiled bathroom was attractive. Clean. Small shower with warmish water. Clean towels. The water is well-water and smells like well water. Has also stained the white porcelain, as would be expected. The bed was quite comfortable. Clean linen. We didn't plan on spending time in our room. This venue met our needs. We enjoyed the town and outdoors and then returned to a clean, spartan, inexpensive room in a beautiful location. The traffic during peak season likely overwhelms the staffing resources, hence, the poor reviews. Keep that in mind when traveling. My boyfriend and I liked this place a lot. It was worth the price, we paid $264 total for two nights. It was the cheapest we could find. Originally we had reserved the older rooms, but called and upgraded to the two bedroom lakefront room for $20 extra a night. It was very much so worth it. The rooms are nicely renovated, very clean, and right on the water. Because of the lake, there are a lot of gnats and bugs, nothing crazy, but just be aware around the lights in the bathroom. Our TV was broken, but we weren't in the room long enough to care. Beds are comfortable and clean. The water right on the beach was real sandy and rocky, so just be cautious of that, but really beautiful view of the bridge, and town. There's also a fireplace which we loved. There was a person there to check in and check out, and they were very nice. It wasn't perfect, but we enjoyed our stay. read more

After driving five hours to get here we were told we could not check in at the 4pm time because the rooms were not ready. I gusss we have to sit further in our car. Brochure said we would have a room view of the courtyard. What a JOKE!! All rooms overlooked the PARKING LOT. The beach on the water was dirty. Discarded clothes strewn about. I paid almost $600 for one night for two rooms. Just because they could. Labor Day is a popular weekend stop up here. The rooms were the size of a storage locker and the linen had high smells of bleach. The welcome package they talked about in their brochure was a few advertisements from local businesses giving you 10% off. Wow!! I've been in jails better than this place. Bell Melody hotel needs to be closed by County Health and Building Departments!!! Room was extremely dirty and outdated and pictures used to advertise the hotel do not reflect the actual conditions. The advertised amenities are not provided; indoor/outdoor pool, free breakfast, free WI FI, cable TV only works with Weather Channel and no remote control is provided. The electrical system does meet existing code; no GFI's in the bathroom or even grounded outlets, extension cords must be used to run appliances, and the electrical outlets are so worn out that the plugs fall out of them ( like A/C). The bathroom has black mold and shower pan was rusted out and broken and fixed with tape. We spent $250.00 (plus) for the room and would have forfeited the money if other hotel rooms would have been available and they wasn't any available because of the Bridge Walk. Worst trip of our lives. Needed to check in at 3 o'clock to quickly get some dinner and come back and go to sleep because we had to get up at 4 o'clock in the morning to walk the Mackinac Bridge. From the moment we got inside I was coughing from the mold and musty atmosphere. No place to plug-in your appliances in fear of being shocked. Everything was filthy dirty with bugs all over the walls and cobwebs. The shower did not work. We called them in to help and they gave us attitude. I would not recommend staying here. read more

Garbage customer service. This place turned away service to a veteran (me) and my wife after a room we booked had water damage. They claimed they attempted to call, but we had no missed calls or voicemails left. While we waited there, a room came available from a last minute cancellation. They refused to provide us that room at the agreed original rate and wanted to charge us over $100 more. They refused to let us talk to a manager and would only claim the person was "unavailable". We had ridden for over ten hours to find out at 8pm. Everything in town was booked. Had to travel another half hour to find a place. They also called the police as a peace offering. In the time we waited, multiple people came in complaining of broken toilets and an array other issues. Classy place. read more

This place is fantastic, especially if you know what you're getting. You'll feel like you're in a tiny little cabin in the woods. But really you're a mile or two from the ferry that takes you to Mackinac Island. We were greeted by friendly Armand who offered us all kinds of advice and discount coupons for breakfast. Our room was impeccable! Yes it's very tiny but we were here one night so it's perfect. I wouldn't want the small of a room if I were staying for a full week. The bad provided us great comfort; the best night sleep we've had in our weeklong vacation. We didn't hear a sound from any of the other rooms around us. The bathroom is tiny but everything worked great. Good shower pressure good hot water toilets flush well. I am not sure what others were complaining about. We were very happy here. read more

Don't waste money on the suites. The staff was friendly but the "suites" were not so great. There were spiders and spider webs all around the doors, so much residue on the slider doors that it made it hard to see through them for the highly advertised " bridge view" rooms although it did have a semi private deck off the back but no access to water or fire pit from there. And bug guts smeared on the walls that was very visible. The shower and bathroom was made for a small child. If you are taller than (being generous) five and a half feet you will be ducking in the shower. Think of Will Ferrell in the movie elf. Had reservations for two nights. Arrived and found our room to have a heavy odor of mold or mildew. Was offered a second room by front desk which had a worse smell of mold or mildew. Staff was extremely rude- refusing a refund and at one point throwing my recite (without the requested refund) at me through my car window. I would NOT recommend this motel under any circumstances. This place is FILTHY and the staff is incredibly RUDE! The room we were first given was moldy and musty. My husband has asthma, and we would have ended up needing to go to urgent care had we stayed. So we were given a second room, it was even WORSE! We never unpacked anything as we were physically unable to stay there, our receipt was THROWN at us. So we called our credit card company to stop payment on the room. The sunrise beach motel responded to the credit card company with a LIE saying we just wanted a room closer to town. Our experience with them is unbelievably unacceptable. I can not believe that a hotel is acting like this, even telling lies to a credit card company. Would never stay here again. I got shifted here by the owner after booking a two bed room in the Capri Motel. The room was half the size of the pictures of the Capri Motel room, the bathroom I couldn't turn around in, and the continental breakfast was beyond basic. Inside the room, everything looked like it hadn't been updated since the motel was built, most likely in the 70s. However, this doesn't even cover the worst part, which was that the water from the tap, toilet and shower was yellow, had particulate floating in it, and smelled like garbage. I filled a clear plastic cup with water and was about to drink it before realizing that it was an off yellow/brown color! I took a shower b/c I was filthy from hiking around and I think I got out smelling worse than when I got in. The only reason this place is in business is due to the great beachfront view and reasonable prices. However, this place is only ok if you're willing to drink bottled water the whole time, and are ok with dirty, small rooms that are mostly likely older than you are. Never again! We used to stay at this motel. Loved it. ******** Then the property was sold. ******** Toilet ran all night. I did try to fix it. But could not as the chain from the handle to the flapoer was missing. Had enough. Went to the office at 6am. (After no sleep) woke the live in owner or manager up. She had me use the phone to talk to her. She stated " I do not know you!". (She did not check me in so of course she did not know who I was) she did ask what room? She called the room before I got back and went off on my mother. We did need a handicapped room. They did try to accommodate by putting a riser on the toilet. Which would have been great if it had been screwed down. One of the beds were short sheeted. Before I checked out wanted to telk her what was wrong with the room ( not that I wanted the room for free. I stayed) she started yelling at me when I walked into the door. Would not let me say anything she was just yelling. Yes, my voice gets loud. Then she screamed at me twice "I kill you!". That was it. I was lucky enough to have two other guests walk in as this was going on. So at least there are witnesses. They had been there for several days, their room was above ours. I stayed at the bells motel but it's owned and operated by the same women. The stay was not pleasant. The location on booking.com is wrong as well as the location on iPhone maps. When I politely informed the owner of this she rolled her eyes at me and told me it was my problem and it's my job to contact iPhone about it. The WiFi didn't work and they were no help in fixing it. They just said it was my problem for having an iPhone. The rooms are very outdated. Our curtains fell off the hooks anytime we tried to close them. They would turn the A/C completely off anytime we left the room. Returning to a hot room after being in the sun all day wasn't fun. The only decent thing was the price. read more

AVOID this motel (and the motels on either side of this one- they are managed by the same people) at all costs!! Management is flat out rude and disrespectful. My family had reservations months in advance and they had no record of this. We were still able to get rooms, but the lady in the main office gave us nothing but attitude through the whole process. At one point we had the electricity in our room go out after we plugged in a coffee maker. When calling the office, you could hear a lady in the background say "Ugh, what did she plug in that she wasn't supposed to?" Rooms were outdated (to be expected) and weren't the cleanest. Major bug/cobweb buildup outside of the room door and all over the balcony. Many of the lights outside of the room doors were burned out which made it difficult to see at night. Great view of the bridge, but you can't even enjoy it due to the lack of outdoor furniture. The furniture that was out was super dirty. But even more concerning was the incredible amount of FECES that covered the entire beach. It was flat out disgusting and it made the beach completely unusable. On the Sunday (the day before Labor Day) of our stay, the landscaping company showed up which blew all the feces onto the balconies. GROSS. Why didn't management have the landscaping company come BEFORE the rush of a major holiday weekend?!? Staff keeps the linens, yes the sheets you sleep on, outside in the breezeway. The carts are covered by a sheet. One morning I came out and found that the wind blew off the sheet covering the linens exposing everything to the outdoors (i.e. rain, morning dew, feces, animals, etc.). The pool/spa look like they haven't been cleaned all summer and the pool water is colder than the lake water- it was unbearable. I understand trying to save money when you go on vacation, but trust me, it is worth spending a little more at another motel/hotel. You can't even relax at this place after spending a long day in town or on the island. This place is disappointing and disgusting. read more

BEWARE STAY HERE AT YOUR OWN RISK. I stayed at the sister hotel "Bells Melody Motel" which is next door. I booked two nights(sept 17th & 18th) and got two rooms with two queen size beds for almost $500. Once we got into our rooms(27 and 28) beside the room smelling musty and the blankets feeling damp, we found the rooms absolutely filthy and infested with spiders and bugs, we spent our first 10 minutes just killing bugs all over the walls and window. We also had no privacy because the blinds on the window were broken in both rooms so anyone outside could look into our windows easily. I found it very strange they left the maids closet open all night, I mean the door was open and the lights were on however there is no staff there during the night. I found it not only unsanitary but also unsafe that the door was open to basically anyone walking past, any stranger off the street could grab stuff or even hide and endanger other guests without a problem because nothing was locked up. The bathroom as well as the bedroom in both rooms had black mold and dead bugs on the walls and ceiling(photos attached). We couldn't shower and honestly me and my boyfriend would've rather slept in the car than on the bed in the room. They make you sign a paper as a way to trap you into staying the night once you pay. We went to the front desk to get a refund for the second night however we paid cash and the girl at the front desk(Brianna) said that cash was non refundable, which wasn't explained in the waiver or said to us before we paid. I showed Brianna the pictures of the mold and of the broken blinds and she gave me a whatever attitude and said she couldn't help us. When I wanted to speak to the owner she gave me a bullshit story that the only way to contact the owner is by email, I emailed them two days ago and still haven't gotten a response back about the disgusting room and my refund. I'm positive I got scammed and definitely stayed at the worst motel in Mackinaw City. I wouldn't even recommend this place to my worst enemy, please save your time and money and go to literally any place else!!! read more

RUN AWAY FROM THIS MOTEL!! When we arrived, we were given a "cabin" on the water at the motel next door called Bells Melody. The outside was full of bugs, barely allowing us to get in. The smell of the inside of the room was beyond disgusting. It wasn't simply an older motel smell. It was as if a moldy/musty chemical was spilled throughout the room. The furniture was beyond old. It was chipped and stained. The bathroom was not only dirty and chipped, but there was a large soft spot around the base of the toilet that made you feel like you would fall through the floor. The room had cobwebs and bugs/spiders in every corner of the ceiling but one. There was no way that I was going to pay $169 a night for this room. I went to complain, and the woman didn't want to hear why I wasn't "comfortable" in the room. She just put us somewhere else, down the road at another motel. It turned out to be a slightly cleaner and a tiny bit more comfortable room that was very dated. At least it only smelled musty. The wifi password didn't work at any time during our entire weekend. The continental breakfast was the worst I'd ever seen. Cheap white bagels, cheap bread, hard boiled eggs, and cereal, all in Tupperware containers that looked like they came out of my grandmother's cupboard. We went to a restaurant for breakfast on Sunday just to avoid the horrible continental breakfast. Overall, I think it is ROBBERY that this motel is allowed to operate this way. If I were to back out of our reservation, I would have still had to pay the $169 per night. Shame on the city of Mackinaw for allowing this business to remain open. read more

Very nice for the price. Room was very small but we were only spending one night so it was fine. Very clean! Bed was comfy. Nice continental breakfast offered free in the mornings. The women who checked us in was very very nice, gracious and made us feel very welcome. I can easily recommend any of the three hotels that are owned by this family- they are all together right on the waterfront. They have a grill out at the water if you want to use it and a nice fire ring to utilize if desired. Awesome views of the bridge and water. Peaceful even though on a main road. Lots of hot water for showers but could use a better shower head. I would rate this 99.9. Don't hesitate to stay there - you don't need to spend $200 or more on a hotel to have a comfortable sleep. read more

Well how do I begin, just want to say up front, Do Not stay here! We had an awful experience. First of all they own the two properties on either side, so apparently they can"bait and switch" very easily. We thought we were staying at Sunrise since this is where we made our reservations about 3 mos prior. Well no when we hot there (reminder can not check in before 4 pm!) after 4 there was no , Hello how are you, can I help you?, just two ladies laughing and carrying on a conversation between themselves at the front desk. I thought that was rude! Then after they finished laughing at whatever, I said Hi, we have reservations. She said oh ok, what's the name,I told her, she said oh we changed you over to Bridgeview, so you can have your rooms together. I said oh, she said you have 3 rooms I said, 4 oh ok then. Here are you keys, no other explanation nothing. The rooms were not cojoined there really all were separated and were at least on the same level. I have no idea why she said this, because it certainly wasn't true! Well anyway we had rooms. But.. they were outdated, linens sat on the parking lot in from of the cars all night,the garbage was overflowing on the deck. The beach was awful dirty with goose and seagull feces. Very unkept in all areas! Breakfast was a joke! Horrible had a young man there watching our every move, plain bagel, white or wheat bread , instant oatmeal and if you are lucky a mini powdered donut! How ridiculous!! Please don't even think about staying here! It was a nightmare, they never even cleaned our rooms. We paid more than what we saw online and when my husband went to ask about it, she belittled him and got angry! What kind of customer service is this? We had an awful experience but trudged through because we already paid and figured she'd never refund our money. We learned our lesson so we can warn others ! We also spoke to others that we there for a family reunion that said they were also treated rudely and had their rooms changed also. The pool was not well maintained and the one at Bridgeview must have had a broken filter because there was sand at the bottom of all the return pipes. We would never stay here again! read more

We made a last minute reservation at this hotel. The online booking agency photos show the nice rooms, spectacular views. What they don't show you is the 10x14 room that, after you put a queen size bed and a desk and chair in, you hardly have room to spin in a circle. To top it all off, this morning when my wife was getting ready to take a shower, she picked the remains of a bed bug off her leg. We checked the mattress before we use the bed, as we always do not matter what hotel, and found nothing. This is discussing. After finding the bed bug we started looking at reviews (I know it was a little late) only to discover numerous complaints of bed bug infestation. I put the bug in a bag and talked to the manager, she just argued with me that it wasn't a bed bug. I guess the health department will decide, because that is where it's being sent. Hotel was clean which to me is the most important thing. I only rated 4 stars because they did not serve breakfast at the hotel (It was available, but you have to drive down the road to a sister hotel.) and the tv, ice maker, and onsite pool did not work. They did however throw in water park passes at a neighboring hotel.(Without the waterpark passes it would have been 3 stars) In all this was a decent place to stay, but that is all it was. I would stay here again as a last resort, but will book next time at the hotel that has the amenities all in the same location. read more

Eww! Run as fast as you can away from this dirty motel! I enjoy mom and pop motels over large chain motels but this place is so dirty and unkept. Goose poop everywhere that is not cleaned up, old smelly bedding, twisted up pillows, blinds that were falling apart, rude owner, joke of a continental breakfast with a young person there acting like you are going to steal their nasty old bagels! The outside walls are riddled with bugs and dirt and the inside has dead bugs squished on the walls and left there. I kept my flip flops on the entire time cause lord knows what disease I could of picked up from the nasty carpet. Thank God I brought Lysol and sprayed down every inch of the room. And beware they will not give you a refund and let you leave. I tried 15 minutes after checking in and seeing the rooms and condition of the beach.
