I came here because of a review saying the chowder was really good (3/5 in my opinion). It's a bit less chowdery than what I'm used to, more like a liquid kind of soup. The chowder soup was also quite sweet. I'm used to a more saltier and thicker version, but it was still pretty good overall. Happy with my entree. The plate was hot. Broccolini were thoroughly cooked. Swordfish was less tough than other places. I really admire the employee bringing the food out. She cleaned the tables well, and the seats! I came here recently for dinner to celebrate valentines day. This location has plenty of parking, although it does get packed because there's a grocery store, gas station, gym and other small businesses in the plaza. We were seated pretty promptly, and someone came over to bring us water fairly quickly. I noticed they don't change their menu very often, as it seems to be mostly the same as the last few times I've gone, and I don't go often. It might be nice for them to add some new items or mix it up a bit. I ordered the shrimp and grits, and a wedge salad. We were splitting the wedge salad so it was nice that the server separated it for us on two different plates. I love a good much salad, and this really hit the spot, and I enjoyed it. I don't think it had any onions which I do sometimes like, but it didn't really matter much to me in this instance. Unfortunately, I wish I could say I liked the shrimp and grits as much as the wedge salad, but it was not good at all. It comes out on a rectangular shaped plate, and the portion is extremely small. That might have been something I could overlook if the dish itself had been good. However, the Grits were not creamy at all and were overly firm and just had a bland flavor. It didn't seem to have much of a sauce in them, and I just couldn't eat it. The sausage they you didn't taste very good to me, and was chopped up in little bits. The shrimp I will say was pretty good, but they were only four or five of them. I ate the shrimp left the grits and tried to fill up on the bread they wrote to the table instead. I really wish I would have gotten something different, as I felt this was a waste of money. I'm not sure there's really much of a reason to go back considering the dinner menu doesn't have anything new, and my dish was disappointing. If I did decide to go back I would definitely have to order something different. HAPPY HOUR REVIEW: Brigantine has one of the best HH deals in North County - AND a great patio. What's not to like? I was busy talking to my friend & didn't snap any pics. But the Happy Hour Menu (all night Monday, T-F and S 3-6) is great. $7 for a bunch of food choices and drinks. One piece of advice: some of the $7 "bargains" are huge - and others are smaller than things on the regular menu. I got: house salad: huge, blue cheese, salad, pecans, very hefty. Just a little too heavily dressed. Ahi slider: tiny, a few fries. Ok if you're not super hungry but if you want to be eating more, you either need two of these and something else, or you should pick something different. But it was tasty. Friend got: Clam Chowder: big, she liked it. And: 3 oysters: small and she said "meh." For drinks: for $7 she got a huge margarita served in a collins glass. I upgraded to a well mojito for $10 (fair enough, it had mint and lime and more things than the normal coke & rum for $7). Tasty, also nice serving in a collins glass. I was still hungry after eating half the salad (too much dressing) & the little slider. I decided to get a fish taco from the regular menu. Only $8, and a lot bigger than the slider. Huge piece of fried fish on a ton of cabbage and chopped tomatoes. Tasty. Not the most healthy thing ever but it was cheap and filling. SUPER place for a bargain happy hour in Esco, with a really nice shady patio. Great for the summer when it's heating up elsewhere and you want to hang in North County Inland and not be totally uncomfortable! The waitress was ok then she changed out with a nicer one so we were happy with the service. Everything came out as ordered except the mini crab cake. We were expecting something larger. Thats what she said. The place is really nice and organized and well decorated, as you would expect from a Brigantine. The food was very good. We ordered the bacon wrapped prawns, ceviche and a single crab cake. The food was really good but the crab cake was not worth $21. The ceviche was different than typical ceviche but tasted very good. I have been coming here for most of my life. Lauren was our server tonight and was absolutely amazing and super attentive to all of our needs and allergies that we had at our table. We had a group of 10 of us so we sat at one of the high top tables in the bar area. We have our usual appetizers that we ordered like napa valley nachos, calamari, shrimp cocktails and of course some drinks. Rainy Saturday afternoon we decided to stop by the bring Escondido the wife and I, we traditionally celebrate her birthday every year at the brig. Once again it did not disappoint. But I was dining with three seafood lovers, so we gave Brigantine a shot, and I'm really glad we did! While my friends dove into everything from oysters to fish tacos (and were raving about it the whole time), I went with the filet mignon, and it was absolutely perfect. Cooked exactly how I ordered it -- tender, flavorful, and paired with great sides. I never once felt like I was "settling" just because I don't eat seafood. The whole meal was well-balanced and delicious. Service was great, the atmosphere was classy but comfortable, and everything came out beautifully plated. Now, the one letdown? The crème brûlée. It looked promising, but unfortunately it was cold and a bit watery -- not the creamy, custardy texture you hope for. A bit of a disappointing finish to an otherwise fantastic meal. There was a huge rush around 4:30pm that I'm not sure the staff was equipped to handle but Anai kept a smile on her face and wasn't phased by impatient, snobby patrons who have no clue what it's like to work in the restaurant business. I loved my food and iced tea, the open airy ambiance with nautical decor and green plants that can be seen from every window. Peripheral bar height booth seating is super comfy. Baseball games on the TV. Don't miss the $7 happy hour menu beginning at 3pm daily and ending at closing during weekdays, if I remember correctly. Just had lunch at Brigantine, May 22, 2026. We casually mentioned to the server . Medai, that the shrimp appetizer was a bit overdone. Before we knew it, here comes the manager, Andrew, who sincerely apologized and not only removed the item from our bill but proceeded to order another one to take home. The food was delicious and well priced, however, the customer service and attention to the diners were absolutely outstanding. This is a wonderful restaurant run by considerate and committed people. we went for my birthday lunch arrived around 12:30pm. We had to wait 10 minutes to be seated. I ordered Morocan Salmon with cous cous and veggies and It was wonderful. My hubby got the crabstuffed prawns with bacon and mashed potatoes and green beans. It said on the menu it comes with white cream sauce with jalapeno and that is too hot for him so I asked our waitress Kristen to hold the sauce and it was perfect. It is a bit noisy in the dining room and was better after many people left so if you can go when it isn't super busy that is more pleasant. I love this place because of it's location near the racetrack and the fact that their seafood is fresh and wonderfully prepared. This is my go-to place when I travel to the coastal area. My partner had the shrimp and grits, her shrimp was inedible and had to be sent back and she didn't order again. For the price you pay, the food should not be this poor. We came on a Sunday at 2pm. I made reservations ahead of time just in case. It wasn't busy at that time and there were plenty of walk in's with no wait. Staff here is incredibly friendly great service. Our waitress was a delight. I tried their lobster tempura tacos. It was so good! It comes with garlic fries and green beans. Great place for a HH and for a retirement party. We were seated outside and accomodated our group. We were there from 2-6pm (HH started at 3pm). Prices were great and food were delish. Brigantine Escondido is 1 of our favorite restaurants and rarely does it disappoint. Currently our fav waiter is Miguel. He's always super friendly, funny and very efficient. We always get the Brig Classic Taco, Swordfish Taco Sonoran style and the potato skins plus a nice 9oz Chardonnay and a beer. We love both the inside and outside bar atmosphere. Where we sit usually depends on weather and crowd although they have warm heaters outside. We probably go at least 1x/ month maybe more. Thank goodness for this gem in our backyard. read more

They have a good happy hour, which is the only time I go, everything on the happy hour menu is $7 (3 oysters, sliders, bowl of clam chowder, potato skins, well cocktails). The oysters are always great, but the clam chowder never really hits the spot. Most days I get it, the clams are either really hard or way too chewy. I have been to places in SD with much much better clam chowder, but it still doesn't stop me from ordering it in hopes that it improves. Tonight we visited 11/4, and sat at the bar. We bought a $45 bottle of wine and later ordered two 9 oz pours before leaving. The bartender charged us $39 for the two glasses, which was almost the same price as a whole bottle. She never mentioned that two glasses cost as much as a bottle, which feels misleading. There are two sides to the restaurant, one side is pub, high top tables and other side is regular fancy restaurant. My wife wanted to do the Tues tacos, and made reservations. We found out after getting seated that the pub side was where they do Tuesday tacos, but had a 30-40 min wait, we opted to keep with our reservations at the regular restaurant. My wife got the fried lobster taco and I had the fish & chips, appetizers we got the crispy fried Brussels sprouts. That was okay, not enough pork belly or was cut up too small...next time will go with the fried shrimp or fried calamari, look good from a distance. The lobster taco was delicious. Wow is all I can say. We've lived in the area for about 6 years and I know Brigantine is a local chain. We're not big on Seafood so we had never been to this restaurant which is located next to our local Vons. So we made a reservation for my birthday. Upscale design, but with a casual touches in the decor. Everything from the greeting to the service, and specially the food was fantastic. I had the spinach salad as an appetizer and my husband had the octopus. I am not an octopus fan. But my husband enjoyed it, the sauce was very tasty. The salad had a delicious bacon vinegrette. It was enough for 3 people. Then our entrees he had the parmesaun coated sea dabs that came with a nice creamy risotto and broccolini..I had the shrimp and grits. It was so delicious it, had pieces of shrimp chopped with chorizo in the creamy grits. Four large tiger shrimp were onto. We took half our dinner home to save room for dessert. Mudpie! Our ice tea was nice and brisk, and my husband said his Manhattan was the best he ever had. We will definetly come back again. Oh and our server Iventro? New York strip steak, ordered it medium because last time medium rare was rare. i was cooked medium, served on top of salty mashed potatoes. Now let me assure you, they aren't pealing and boiling and mashing potatoes in that kitchen. So it's a NY stip on a bed of instant potatoes, smothered in some supposed red wine redution, i acturally though it was gravy, and nice portion on nearly raw green beans.
