Four Tunas -- More Like Four Letdowns (2.5/5 -- and that's being generous) I'll give credit where it's due: the name Four Tunas is clever, and the fish taco -- along with its sauce -- was genuinely good. That's where the compliments end. The service here was so disconnected, so utterly lost, that it reminded me of that quote: "My customer service voice is actually a different person. Like... I don't even know who that person is." Whoever that person is supposed to be at Four Tunas... they were not working that night. We ordered the shrimp cocktail and waited over 30 minutes for it to arrive -- only to be served what tasted like defrosted shrimp from the Food 4 Less literally across the street. The broth was watery, sweet, and flavorless. No depth, no brine, no seafood character whatsoever. Disappointing doesn't begin to cover it for the price point they're charging. The oysters were average at best -- and the experience was made even stranger when our server came over mid-meal to clear the empty shells while I still had a full plate of oysters in front of me. I've dined at a lot of restaurants, and I have never had a server remove half my meal while I was still actively eating the other half. Bizarre doesn't even do it justice. To make matters worse, my food arrived a full 30 minutes before my wife's. I sat there watching my plate go cold, not wanting to eat alone. There was no apology, no acknowledgment, no manager in sight. That last part says everything -- the absence of any floor management was felt in every single interaction. Here's the frustrating part: you can see the potential. The space, the concept, the fish taco -- there are bones of something great here. But the kitchen seems undertrained and uncoordinated, the service staff appears to be operating without guidance, and nobody seems to be steering the ship. I nearly didn't leave a tip. I ultimately did -- out of obligation, not satisfaction. That feeling alone should tell you everything about this experience. 2 stars total: 2.5 for the fish taco, and 0.5 as a nod to the wordplay on the name. Come on, Four Tunas -- you could be something. Came here for lunch today with my friends. I ordered the salmon salad. The fish was nicely seasoned and the veggies were very fresh. The fish was a very thin slice so it was a bit on the dry side. Overall, I did enjoy it. Two friends ordered the Mahi Mahi entree. They both liked their dishes and commented their fish was also thin and dry. The flour tortillas that came with their dish were freshly made and absolutely addicting! One friend ordered the torre sky scraper, which was a stack of cooked shrimp, octopus, scallops, shrimp ceviche, fish ceviche, cucumber, and onions served with chips. Another friend ordered deep fried butterfly shrimp. Our server also brought out some complimentary chips and really spicy salsa and we each also got a sample of the fish soup. I would come back for the fish soup on a cold day! Note: Only the initial serving of chips was free. Refills for the chips only were $2. Refills for chips and salsa $6.50. The restaurant was very clean and had a good number of tables indoors, as well as a large covered area with more tables outside. I would not recommend drinking the water. We ordered a big ceviche tower made with fresh octopus, scallops and large shrimp marinaded in lime and mild chile spices with fresh tomatoes, cucumber and red onions. We also ordered three tacos: fish, octopus, and smoked tuna. The fish was well battered and fried. The smoked tuna was not overly smoked and was one of the better smoked tuna I have had. Smoked tuna. Keep that in mind. This place was not easy to find (Google directions took me to every corner of the mini-mall) but I am glad I didn't give up. By the way, are there four tunas here? Three? Five? Does it matter? Incidentally, "tuna" in Spanish does not mean "tuna" in English. But tuna means tuna here at this very attractive little restaurant. This is a place that sells excellent tacos but the menu is beautiful and serves much more than just tacos, with a strong emphasis on seafood. We ordered our food to go and tried five different tacos: garlic shrimp, avocado, gobernador, spicy shrimp, and smoked tuna. Everyone loves the smoked tuna and add me to that club. It's delicious. Every taco was very good and, fair warning, the spicy shrimp taco is legitimately spicy. But you simply must get the smoked tuna. You select corn or flour for your tortilla and we selected flour, being the gringos we are. I don't know if the tortillas were freshly-made but they were very good and, at a minimum, grilled before they were served. Let's just say the tortillas were delicious. The chips were crispy and freshly made and wonderful. My guess is the salsa that accompanies the chips (and I am not referring to the hot sauces) was made fresh, too. It was very chunky and flavorful and perfect for chip scooping. The customer service here was great. While we waited for our order, they gave us little complimentary servings of a delicious seafood soup served in shot glasses. That is good service. I wish we had eaten in and will do so next time. My newest obsession is Four Tunas! My friend and I loved TJ Oyster Bar in Chula Vista near where she used to live years ago. We've always been looking for a place with great tacos, ceviche, and most importantly really good aguachile. We ordered takeout but wanted to try all the things that reminded us of the other restaurant, so we ordered an aguachile verde, smoked tuna taco, garlic shrimp taco, and shrimp spicy taco. All of it was delicious! The aguachile was great but we probably chose too high of a spice level. We chose medium but next time would opt for the mild. The shrimp spicy taco with cheese and peppers was delicious. It wasn't too spicy but super tasty. And my personal favorite was the garlic shrimp taco. Is a bit hard to find the entrance from the parking lot but, your GPS is right. It is right there. A very Mexican fish place including all the good tostada, fish tacos and more. The dishes are tasty and fresh. Just make sure to ask the actual size of the tostada because is big enough for one meal. The spicy shrimp was all chopped up which made for a weird texture and the Mahi just fell a bit flat.
