I had my wedding make up and hair done by Rena and her assistant Nyrelle. I loved my make up and hair. It was perfect. I was worried that it would be too much or too little make up. But the pictures turned out perfectly. The lashes that I used for my trial were discontinued but Rena was creative and recreated the exact same look with other ones she had. I had Rena do my mom's make up too. My mom never wears make up so she was worried that it would be too much for her but she really liked her make up. All my bridesmaids and my MIL looked beautiful as well. And everyone's make up stayed on till the end! They were on time and very communicative. I also liked the touch up kit that Rena gave me. Very late review of this make up studio I stumbled on Yelp. I booked myself to this studio for make-up only for last year's corporate party. They were located near the BOA at Downtown Torrance. Studio was really small but it was clean and well lighted. It's a shame I don't remember at the moment the name of the young lady who did my make up but she was nice, soft spoken, and explained every step she did. Well let me tell you I was pleasantly surprised. It was better than I expected. Everyone complimented my makeup. Rena did an excellent job and I think she's very talented. The lashes were perfect and nothing she used bothered my skin nor eyes for the whole night. I was there for more than a couple hours because I have a lot of hair and the time flew right by. Bright Crystal Studio did the hair and make up for me and my bridesmaid on my wedding day and I'm so glad I chose them!! I can't recommend the studio enough - both for their work and also for how wonderful, nice, and friendly the entire team is. Rena has studied cosmetology in both Japan and the United States, so she offers a wide range of make up styles. My family is from China/Taiwan, so I loved that Rena could do a hair and make up style that reflected more of the styles popular there and that suited me personally more. I don't normally wear make up or do my hair, so she had to do a lot of work tweezing my eyebrows, trimming loose hair strands (of course all with my permission), and overall just using her good judgment in how to do my hair and make up because I honestly had no idea how to do anything. She was truly amazing and also really nice to work with. I couldn't even recognize myself because the hair and make up looked so good, and everyone at my wedding could not say enough good things. We didn't want to start super early on the day of the wedding, so Rena and her team were super accommodating to us starting a bit later (9 AM). We decided to do hair and make up at their studio since we were staying close by, and their studio is a wonderfully clean and bright space. Originally Rena and her team were going to do hair and make up for us in pairs, but since we had arrived all at the same time, I appreciated that they rotated through hair and make up with all of us so that my bridesmaids weren't sitting around for a long time with nothing to do. They were also flexible with us bringing snacks and coffee so that we wouldn't be hungry. She also gave the maid of honor a tutorial for how to put in my veil, and she as a great video on youtube for how to do it as well. I had my wedding at Wayfarers Chapel, and if anyone knows about the venue, they know there are a lot of rules and time constraints. It was a plus that Rena has worked extensively at the chapel as an artist, and so she gave extra tips like exactly how to position my hair piece so that it would look good during the ceremony. First time hiring a professional make up artist and it was not the best experience. First of all, I was asked to give inspo to what makeup looks I want to go for in which I showed the make up artist. I got the complete opposite look. Image provide was a natural look and I got a Smokey look instead. Secondly, I never got a chance to look at my makeup until I went back to the room. The makeup artist didn't show me a mirror or asked me if anything needs to be fixed or changed. She quickly moved on to the next person. I had to fix my makeup afterward because there were patches on my cheeks, mascara smudge all over my under eye and lash glue inner corner of my lower eyelid. With a dark shadow look, you would think my brows would be darker but nope. It was super light so I had to fix it to my liking. Lastly, for paying $150+ (including early morning fee + travel fee) per person, I was expecting a good experience. If I knew this was the result, I would've just done a simple makeup myself. read more

This was the absolute WORST makeup studio I have ever been to. Not worth 150/ per person, not even worth 10$. I don't know how this place has good reviews. 6 of us went in before a wedding (including the bride). First of all, the lady kept forgetting what she has to do for my face and I had to remind her. She only did my winged eyeliner on one side and forgot the other. How is that possible? She accidentally rubbed off part of my left eyebrow and was about to let me walk out the door until I asked her to fix it. She put eyeshadow on my tear duct area and the powder fell onto my nose and mouth and she didn't wipe it off. Everything was caked on. They used cheap foundation that was white. Second, the technique was not professional AT ALL (as pictured). My eyeliner was so uneven and the bottom liner makes it look I got punched in the face. They sprayed foundation onto the brides hair and left it there. The hairstyling fell apart 20 minutes after walking out. The worst part is this fiasco almost ruined the wedding. We legitimately got back to the bride's hotel room and washed everything off and reapplied everything ourselves. It was as if a middle scholar did our makeup. The bride hated her makeup and hair so much that she was crying/so upset and it broke our hearts. Fixing our makeup made us an hour late going the chapel, and the chapel was threatening to cancel the ceremony. We got no pictures before the wedding. TLDR: DO NOT GET YOUR MAKEUP DONE HERE. You will be out $$$ to look cheap. Sorry if this is mean, but it's the truth. read more

Rena and Yuko were amazing the day of our wedding in April 2017. I didn't realize my sister-in-law already wrote a review, but I think that is a testament to their amazing work. Their price is comparable to other vendors, if not a bit more reasonable. I highly recommend the trial and bringing my Maid of Honor was a brilliant idea, because she was able to offer her honest opinion as well. Rena is super down-to-earth and we had a lovely chat about men, commitment, family, and the insanity of real estate in California. Rena was able to make everyone's makeup look natural (with lovely lashes, of course), and everyone's hair looked great! I highly recommend people growing out their hair, and wish that I did a little more with mine, but Rena was still able to make my hair into a bun that resembled a rose. Oh, I also got married on the probably THE windiest day. Literally, my phone's weather reading announced: "sunny, sunny, sunny, sunny, BLUSTERY, sunny, sunny." The blustery day just so happened to be our wedding day. (I know, great, right?) I remember a guest commented later, that my hair did not move at all, despite the wind. After the ceremony, a little piece of hair came undone, but apparently not enough of it for other people to let me know.
