A smile is the easiest way to welcome someone but maybe isn't in their training. They also didn't acknowledge my boyfriend, who was obviously just there to be with me. I saw there were seats in the back with some reading material but they didn't mention anything to him. After we left, we both couldn't get over how unfriendly the staff were. They weren't rude, they were actively not friendly. Who's this boutique for? Your one friend in the world who has an unlimited bank account? I wanted to buy one of their running shirts but it felt like buying something here was to buy bad karma. I'll try their other location sometime but I have low expectations after coming here.

Saks in Chevy Chase is a throwback to a more genteel era. Stores like this used to have snooty…read morereputations but nowadays I always find the staff very friendly and welcoming. While the standalone men's store across the District line is now sadly gone, the third floor is now the men's department and has just a good of a selection as the old store. What I like about Saks compared to Neiman Marcus or Bloomingdales is that Saks still has a top notch, high quality private label collection of menswear basics. In addition, their sales can be great, especially on the private label clothes. The new parking lot arrangement is very odd. When you park you have to scan a QR code, pay for parking, and then Saks can give you a discount code inside that makes it free. It's a lot of steps for what used to be just handing over a validation ticket. Given that the clientele here skews quite old, I can't imagine this change has gone over well. If you are a regular customer, your sales associate can register your plate and then you don't need to go through this whole rigamarole each time.

I called their customer service about it. The wait was not too long. The customer service representative could not find anything about it. He seemed annoyed by my request. He gave me the phone number of a third party company that handles their credit card transaction to confirm whether the transaction went through or was a hold. He was ready to hang up to get rid of me. Why should I call a different company? Anyways, I did it, after being on hold for 20 minutes, the other representative was just as clueless, did not ask for any information. Once I told him it was an amex card, he told me they only handle visa and mastercard transactions. Now I need to call Saks again to find the subsidiary that handles their amex transaction?! What a horrible waste of time, and inefficient workflow. They should have audit logs in place for their representatives to access and understand what went wrong. They just had zero explanation and wasted my time for nothing.

Then we noticed that the amount per whistle is not what was listed on the many pegs we just cleared back there. We let the guy know that each peg we pulled from was a price less than what was in the system. He got on his walkie and had a back and forth with another employee who persisted that the price it is ringing up is the price. We protested, as we (four of us) all told him the price is not as marked on the peg. They were hoping that we wouldn't care much, but one of my friends went to the back corner to meet the associate and point out where we grabbed the whistles from. Once she did that, they honored the priced from the numerous pegs. Crazy situation, but when you buy twenty of something, the price difference definitely stands out.
