My review is based on the phone & in person assistance I received from Irving, the Department Manger today. A few weeks back I wrote of my positive experience with the Olney's location which was my 1st visit to a J.A.B. Since this store is a few blocks from work, I decided to give this location a try. Beit as it may that I only purchased a gift card (money still spent) Irving provided me with engaging & amusing service while answering my continous questions. Perhaps I initiated the amusement, yet he reciprocated with insight & suggestions that will be beneficial for my ManBaby when he comes home for the holidays. I take heed to the majority of the negative reviews. & hope when shopping time arises, the same positive service extended to me will be extended to my ManBaby, along with durable merchandise & proper follow up/resolution if the need should arise. Horrible staff. Went it to check on some clothes. Not a single Hello or good afternoon may I help you from the staff so off the bat you could thell they werent friendly. Ive been to the one in Columbia and they are great! Mind you i think there was just one other customer in the store. As I was trying some clothes on in the dressing room, you could clearly hear the staff b**** and complain about the customers. Decided to just leave. Why would you want to deal with these folks who might talk about you after you leave - especially when there are other customers around.? If I could give zero stars I would... TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE WITH THE STORE MANAGER JERMEY. HE HAS NO COSTUMER SERVICE EXPERIENCE WHAT SO EVER. I came in to buy a white dinner coat that needed minor alterations. When I came back to pick up this coat it was left with visible tears on the fabric. I was DENIED any type of discount. JERMEY said and I quote: "Why would a reimbursement be needed?"... Maybe because you damaged the jacket I bought at full price and altered. I tried to go about this the correct way in talking with Jermey and higher costumer service on the phone. However he insinuated I was lying, as I was showing him the visible damage. I don't usually write reviews but being gas lit in my face is something I will not tolerate, especially in this circumstance. Oh no, that only applies to the one example of the one brand of shoe on the table (the other dozen or so are full price). A shirt of the deep discount rack for a great stated price? Oh no, someone else must have placed it there. Give me a break. We all know that Jo A Bank is not the best quality, and the company isn't doing so well. They have a very good quality at a very respectable price but the reason im writing this is because they also open early like 8:30-9am and I had a job training for security officer at 9 in the morning, I drove from Virginia and at the classroom they didn't accept my outfit ( I didn't know it was only shirt and regular pants! Im about to lose my job before getting it! Almost hopeless and no time to drive back to Virginia to change in 15 minutes (2 hours one way!) I drove and searched for any store and there they was open and ready before 9 so I went inside but they actually had so much good clothes and different styles wow specially early in the morning, it was easy to find what I needed and set of pants and shirts were below $50 ( keep in mind it was over 2 years ago but this story never gets old! I got back to the class and our instructor was speechless!! He was like: HOW! How did you get these nice clothes so fast! I thought for sure you lost your chance etc! Yea of course I did thanks to Jos A.Bank! Everyone asked me about what store did I go and how was it, no one could believe such a great store and quality can be open to public from early morning until late night! They mean business and good service, return or exchange? The salesman was a fat guy with salt and pepper hair and beard. There were no other customers in the store. He was rude and seemed bothered to take my neck ("can you stand still?") and arm measurements ("can you put your arm down?") for a shirt and offered no help after taking them. Absolutely one of the best shopping experiences I've ever had. We had a bridal party of six men to fit for a wedding and the manager (Jennifer) and her team took the best care of us, taking the time to not only take measurements for six men but also to help with styling suggestions. I will always go back to this store for as long as possible. I've been there more than once. If they're helping other customers you have to be patient and WAIT as each person needs time from store reps. Be patient and you'll leave there with the best care and attention. Absolutely horrendous experience. The store manager does not understand the basic fundamentals of customer service. I would not recommend this store at all. Jos A. Bank is pretty good but this location is terrible. I wasn't able to return a couple items that I purchased less than 2 weeks ago. I was hoping to purchase substantial upgrades to my wardrobe here (a suit, ties, belts, etc..) but definitely going to a competitor with better customer service instead. TERRIBLE SERVICE! I was ignored the entire time in the store. I watched all others be served. I watched salespeople drinking water. I watched salesmen talking about displayed clothing. Came here because people told me they're better than mens warehouse at fitting! Close but not close enough. They spent maybe 2 minutes fitting me and my coat is too large by the time it was ready. Maybe go somewhere else or find someone who will actually spend time figuring out what you want. This is my first suit so I didn't know what to expect, but I've had better service at Chic-fil-a figuring which dressing to get for my salad. read more

This was the first experience I've had since high school ordering a suit. And I wish I read the reviews either on Yelp or on Google before hand. And now that I've already spend $800+ dollars on suits, I'm stuck with what I bought because they were an investment for work. 1) The customer service here is terrible. Lazy, slow, and socializes about political and racial things. 2) I got fitted for a suit saying that it would be ready by my due date (a wedding). I did not have it in time. 3) Even if I did have it in time for the wedding, it didn't fit the way I wanted. 4) The fitting THAT I PAID EXTRA FOR to tailored, is for an older generation....I asked for SLIM FITTED. Now I have to take it to another place to have it corrected...and pay more. 5) There was a minor/small hole on the cuff. Barely noticeable, but it is there. Probably done by the tailor. I can go on and on...but even when I came in to pick it up, the place was still horrible vibes, service, and I just wanted to leave. I will not be coming back. read more

I was fitted for a suit, and told it would be ordered. The suit never arrived. It was needed it for a wedding, and I unfortunately wore something else. I called the store after returning from the wedding, this week, just to get the suit. It has not arrived and they have no record of my purchase unless I can provide an order number, which I cannot. I spent $835. I am still working this out over the phone, three weeks after entering the store. Additionally, the customer service is what I would call, at best, lazy and apathetic. read more

I am NOT complaining about this individual store, but Jos. A. Bank in General. Please note, my Complaint centers around the time frame that Bank's was NOT owned by Mens Warehouse. I'm just hoping that things have changed since then. The Owner of Mens Warehouse is a smart guy and an excellent leader. But regarding "pre mens warehouse", I was basically purchasing "garbage". Poorly made and poorly made in Mexico. And WAY OVER PRICED to boot. My stuff would Literally fall apart in the washing machine. I was so disappointed and felt soooo Ripped off. And, by the time the actual "tear down (if you will)" would occur, by then , you've lost your receipts, the tags for the apparel, etc.. etc.. So, it just went in garbage can and a promise to myself to never buy Banks clothing again. Now, being made in Mexico is rather Irrelevant. It just depends upon how much money a company wants to spend on quality. And, evidently , Banks at that time, didn't want to spend much.......at all! Oddly enough...I was an employee at Banks during the "pre mens warehouse" phase, and absolutely Hated it. I was there for a mere 3 months, and was so glad to be out of there. Do not shop at this store. I purchased a pair of $190 dress shoes on Sunday, 29 August. I wore them around my apartment for a couple of hours to break them in, and they were destroying my feet, so I elected to return them. I returned to the store on 30 August, receipt in hand. The gentleman who assisted me took them out of the box, turned them over and said "I can't take these back." There was a bit of white on the bottom of the shoes, undoubtedly from the carpet in my apartment. I said "I cannot wear these, they are destroying my feet," to which he replied "Well, you better find someone to donate them to then, because I can't take these back." I find it really hard to believe that a place as nice and professional as Jos A. Bank doesn't have the means to tidy up a pair of shoes that was worn for maybe two hours around an apartment for selling again. I left the shoes at the store and walked out, without receiving credit back to my card. Absolutely terrible experience. read more

Although this review says it's for 7130 Wisconsin Ave, it can be applied to the Chevy Chase store on Connecticut Avenue as well. I figured that JoS A Bank would be a slightly classier option than Men's Wearhouse for wedding tuxedo rental for groomsmen. Unfortunately, the staff in both stores are absolutely clueless when it comes to their tuxedo rental program. In the Wisconsin Avenue store, I was told that you could not rent "a la carte". I got home and checked the website - he was wrong. The associate I was working with also seemed annoyed by having to deal with a potential tuxedo rental customer, and clearly wanted to move on to someone else. So I tried the Connecticut Avenue store. I encountered the same issues. Even the store manager couldn't adequately explain the pricing, and they seemed less than interested in trying to assist me. In fact, I was told to come back when it was "less busy" despite there only being a handful of other people in the store... on a Saturday, no less. If JoS A Bank wants to be a "player" in the tuxedo rental business, they should spend less time on annoying television advertising and more time explaining to their employees how the rental program works. I did give the stores 2-stars because the selection isn't bad. read more

Extremely useful men's clothing store runs frequent sales. To get the best prices here, sign up as a corporate customer, gratis. The clothing ranges from medium-high quality to upper-high quality. True -- no super-high quality items here. But, if you want to spend $2,500 on a bespoke Italian suit or custom-fitted socks from Naples, buy an air ticket, cheapskate. Washington is a conservative clothing town, during the business day, and that's reflected in the men's suits, sport coats, topcoats, slacks and shirts here. For fashion forward items, go elsewhere. To get the suit you need to apply for an office job, go here. This store doesn't sell ladies clothing, or womens clothing, or kids clothes. read more

This was a really nice shopping experience - not only did they make getting fitted and set up for an out-of-town wedding a simple process, the manager, Kim, and his staff were very friendly and went out of their way to help. The selection is fine, and was what I would expect from a Jos A Bank or comparable store. Everything that I looked at was well-organized and neatly displayed. The merchandise is not cheaply priced, but there are numerous discounts and sales around the store. Jos A Bank (notoriously?) offers frequent giant discounts that it spares no expense advertising on TV and radio, so if you are going to be making a big purchase at a Jos A Bank, wait for a big sale. You'll find one. In terms of this specific store, however, the great, friendly service made the difference. read more

This is an update from my December 21, 2008 review of 1-star. I wrote a complaint letter and sent it to the corporate office by Certified Mail. I received a telephone call on January 7th from the Regional Manager in whose region is the Bethesda store. She profusely apologized, found my suit, shipped it to me free, and gave me a full refund. I did not have to pay for the suit, in money at least. It cost me about a month and a half of frustration. But that nice regional manager earned an extra star for her store. Absolutely terrible . My wedding is in 20 days, my fiancé and his groomsmen came in and the assistance was terrible. In the middle of helping us the salesmen left to help someone else and we spent a half hour looking for a simple white dress shirt In his size. After having everyone drive an hour to get here and be sized, they lost the measurement and told us to come back. Our second follow up experience was more terrible and we weren't even given good advice on the proper fitting. I will never come back here and would not suggest this store . Very upset . We bought 2 suits in May 2011 and received truly abysmal service. Were under the impression this was a quality store but will not ever give them our business again. Arrive to collect a coat I'd purchased online but had delivered to the store. I stand in front of a sleepy guy who scowls at the cash register for about five minutes before he finally raises his head and asks if I'd been helped. Once we clarify that he's supposed to assist me, he goes into the back room and five minutes later comes back with a coat for a person with a totally different name. He returns to the back again and fails a second time to find my garment. Finally another clerk finds it on a rack about six feet from where I was standing. It's handed to me without a word of apology, and without a garment bag or even a plastic sack. I should say that according to my UPS tracker, the coat had been there for three days, but no one had thought to call me. Hard to comprehend how in a time of high unemployment and serious competition in the retail market, good staff are in such short supply. read more

You're gonna like the way you look...unless you are ugly. Seriously though, this is a quality store for men's clothes. It's not very big, but they make up for that in terms of the quality of the merchandise. I've gotten a suit, dress shirts, ties, and jackets here, and they are very helpful in sizing you up and making adjustments for you. I'm not a very big guy, and the sizes at this store run pretty large, so sometimes they don't have exactly what I need, but I've been very happy with everything I've purchased. The sales there are amazing. I was able to get a $600 cashmere jacket for only $150. Definitely look them up beforehand and see what kinds of deals you can get. My biggest complaint is that they have a really small shoe selection. I know that's not their specialty by any means, but they have so many nice suits and jackets, a better shoe selection would make it easier to get an entire outfit. Also keep your eye out for the "How to Be a Gentleman" book they sell there. A perfectly pretentious touch. read more

My husband recently rented a tuxedo at the Conn Ave., Chevy Chase location. The pants were too long and the shirt sleeves were too short. In addition, there was some white marks on the pants that looked like paint. Totally unacceptable but unfortunately too late to do anything else. Will never rent from them again! read more

Never once I have had a first class service at this location! I like Jos. A. Bank products (although lately I've been iffy about them - suits and shirts are starting to wear off with less than 2 years of use, whereas I've had others that lasted for a whole decade), and I've always had excellent service in other locations. But at this particular store the experience is really frustrating! No one is ever ready to assist you, although you see people doing nothing. And when they do finally talk to you it's like they don't want to be there. Like the other day when I greeted the salesperson and asked him if he worked there and he replied with irony and he was just grumpy the whole time I was there. Just don't go to that store. I was very disappointed with my experience at this store. The salesperson was clearly much more concerned with having to re-fold the shirts than us trying on different sizes until we found the right one. He desperately didn't want us to open another shirt (and we had tried on 2, not 20!). Then we wanted to get a bowtie, and the salesmen had no idea how to tie one. How do you work in a men's suit store and never learn how to tie a bowtie? Yuck. Didn't enjoy my experience at all, and would never go back. read more
