Saks in Chevy Chase is a throwback to a more genteel era. Stores like this used to have snooty reputations but nowadays I always find the staff very friendly and welcoming. While the standalone men's store across the District line is now sadly gone, the third floor is now the men's department and has just a good of a selection as the old store. What I like about Saks compared to Neiman Marcus or Bloomingdales is that Saks still has a top notch, high quality private label collection of menswear basics. In addition, their sales can be great, especially on the private label clothes. The new parking lot arrangement is very odd. When you park you have to scan a QR code, pay for parking, and then Saks can give you a discount code inside that makes it free. It's a lot of steps for what used to be just handing over a validation ticket. Given that the clientele here skews quite old, I can't imagine this change has gone over well. If you are a regular customer, your sales associate can register your plate and then you don't need to go through this whole rigamarole each time. read more

I had placed an order on the app. I can see the transaction on my credit card. However, I cannot see the pending order on their website, nor have I received a confirmation email. I called their customer service about it. The wait was not too long. The customer service representative could not find anything about it. He seemed annoyed by my request. He gave me the phone number of a third party company that handles their credit card transaction to confirm whether the transaction went through or was a hold. He was ready to hang up to get rid of me. Why should I call a different company? Anyways, I did it, after being on hold for 20 minutes, the other representative was just as clueless, did not ask for any information. Once I told him it was an amex card, he told me they only handle visa and mastercard transactions. Now I need to call Saks again to find the subsidiary that handles their amex transaction?! What a horrible waste of time, and inefficient workflow. They should have audit logs in place for their representatives to access and understand what went wrong. They just had zero explanation and wasted my time for nothing. read more

This store is the absolute best place to find ties. When I came here, they had three tables of nothing but ties, of all different brands and colors. They have many other wonderful fine clothing options as well, but the main thing I come here for is to find a great looking tie. I purchased to Calvin Klein ties which I thought will go well with the suits that I have. I have two very important meetings tomorrow and Friday, hence my motivation to come here today. Every employee in the store greeted me and asked if I needed any help, which was a welcome change that what you would find at most other stores. A beautiful store with excellent service. If you are looking for high end merchandise, then look no further. The variety of handbags is second to none. There is Louis Vuitton purses, Valentino, Steve McQueen, and more. The make up section is phenomenal. There is every brand you can imagine and each brand is well stocked with merchandise and people to help you get what you need. The clothing is top notch and extremely well made and fashionable. The only reason I took off one star is the prices. You pay for the service and selection. Purchased one item. Returned it immediately. Paid for shipping. They received the item. The customer chat said the money was returned to card. It wasn't. I called (you can't email) and they said it will take no less than 30 days. They have kept my money hostage for a month even though they have received the item back. I placed an online order for a Proenza Schouler Jacket. The product was not folded properly ( it was just put in a dirty wrapping paper bundled up like a ball) When I received the product, it was all wrinkled and looked shop worn. There was no return label, so I had to call the online customer care requesting a return label. I had to PAY for the shipping to return the garment. Then it took one week for them to acknowledge receipt of the garment, and informed me it will take 30-60 days to refund my order. NEVER in all my experiences purchasing online have I encountered such horrible engagement in purchasing, and compounded by speaking with a Supervisor Maria who claims this is their policy - take it or leave it. I bought a $5000 suite and ordered a $220 toe to go with it for my son's Bar Mitzvah. The morning of the event I discovered that the tie was poorly packaged and unwearable. As a result, I could not wear the suit or tie that I purchased for the event. When I called for a replacement, I was told that I missed the return window by a couple days, that it was my responsibility to make sure Saks distributors don't send out damaged merchandise within 30 days. I would expect that from Amazon, not from Saks. They lost a 20 year customer today. read more

In contrast, a difficult time buying one lipstick today. I wanted to use my Visa but the clerk kept insisting I should use my Saks card. I politely declined three times - their card has a huge interest rate and fees. Then she started the transaction....but started asking for my address, email, etc. I asked why and she said she was looking up my account number to give it to me so I could use it in the rest of the store. I had to ask her again to please just let me make my purchase and leave. The whole exchange took at least 15 minutes. Ridiculous. They have paid parking now. You have to download an app and set up an account with a different company to do that. Which took ten minutes. They gave me a code in the store for free parking and it didn't even work. I ordered a $500 veronica beard dress, 2 days ago, not a cheap dress, but they decided to ship it in a 4x7" box. Just awful, the wrinkles r so bad, i have to return the dress. I should not have to have a dress steamed bc they will not ship it in a nice flat box with tissue surrounding it. Neiman's would never do this to me. Utterly disappointed. As a result, I went down the street and spent my hard earned money elsewhere. As a high-end store that demands exhorbitant prices for its merchandise, you may not want to lose focus on the important things. First and foremost that without customers, you have no need to exist, nor do you have a way to pay for your groceries, cars, vacations, or mortgages, for that matter. In order to ensure you are able to meet such goals, you should begin with training your staff properly. If you have any questions on the details I suggest you take a trip to Bloomingdales in Chevy Chase (aka you competitor). All levels should have a clear understanding that customers should in no way be looked at or talked down upon. As a result of such an unfriendly attitude, your establishment lost out on a quick $1,000 plus purchase. I typically choose to vote with my wallet. Management: unresponsive. I made several attempts to reach them and address my overall experience however their automated system is set up in such a way that it simply wastes your time further sending through a maze of confusion and disconnected calls. No matter, mistakes are often made through ignorance and can be corrected. My friend went into the store for about 20 minutes (and they didn't have anything of what he was looking for) and came out to find a parking violation notice on his car (over $50!!!) I have had the most horrible time getting my refund from an online purchase that I made at the end of July. They sent me the wrong dress. I called them immediately to alert them of the error. The dress I wanted was no longer in stock so I mailed back the item they sent. I have confirmation they received that item back on 7/31/24 and I am still waiting for my refund after calling 3 times. For those of you who have complaints about the parking situation at this location, there is a reason for this. Years ago, when they were NOT strict about parking enforcement, many commuters, I think, used to leave their cars in SFA lot all day, and take the Metro from there. You will notice now that, the Chevy Chase Center, now fully renovated, and strict about parking procedures, SFA had no other choice but to follow suit as well. Might be a little over the top, but they had to do something about the situation, so people would not take advantage. Cab service is very convenient, as well as the Local bus service sops right in front of the building. Two better options! read more

This store has gone downhill...and to make it even less appealing parking has a new wrinkle...you have to pay first and then later get a release to park free. I did not do that and came back to find a parking violation from airgarage.com. The QR Code did not work either and it took me half an hour to get it all straightened out so I would not have to pay $54. Not exactly the parking friendly place that it is supposed to be. Additionally, all online returns are only in the basement, no Children's Department, and no Eileen Fisher items (only at Tyson's). I found walking through this store to be an interesting social experiment. The commissioned retail staff is truly rude, judgmental and profiles all shoppers. Miss is that if you tell them that you are looking for a clothing item for a specific event, the sales mgr or rep may push clothing options completely inappropriate to wear to the event. I walk up to the counter to buy a 50 dollar gift card and the the middle aged middle eastern woman sales clerk is schmoozing up some guy who bought a suit. They go on and on for 10 mins. She looks sideways at me, I say hello, and she just looks away without so much as an acknowledgement of me being there. I finally walk up and say I'd like to buy a gift card, please put 50 on it. This S5A location is kind of off on its own, with its own validated parking lot. I came here a few years back to purchase a pair of boots that were not available elsewhere, so I did appreciate the fact that they carry hard-to-find items! In addition, their handbags selection is nice (they have Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Celine, etc.) - I was wow-ed that they had a Celine selection! The SAs in the Chanel boutique were also very professional and sweet - they had a limited selection in styles, but they allowed you to check out their purses with no hassle. In addition, they mentioned that if you open up a store card, you save 10% off, including on Chanel (I know that Neiman's doesn't offer that as they exclude all the high-end designer bags!) - I was pleasantly surprised when I found out about this! The only thing was that they didn't have any Tom Fords (one of the nice SAs mentioned that you can only find them at Neiman's). On the main floor, next to the bags, the cosmetic representatives are also very friendly - if you're a fan of Sisley, ask for Therese Henry - she is a total sweetheart (and, check out their current Black Rose Precious Face Oil - it is absolutely divine and smells lovely). A staff member named Jordan who works in the shoe Department is very rude. While I was in the middle of trying to purchase my item. She walked away without notifying me to help another customer. She made hand gestures while talking to me about my purchase. I basically had to think for her by asking her to call the online custom service department to see if my order went thru. She replied with a rude response and Said I'll have to call my manager. Her manager Rochelle was very nice and provided me detailed information regarding my purchase. She showed me that the transaction went through. She also took the initiative and re-send my email confirmation to me. Customer Service is very important because it gives the customer a reason to come back. At this point I'll never go back! I'll just order my items on the website. I usually buy my dress shoes from Sak's as they have a decent selection here. I will say I think some of the customer service reps are unprofessional and look sloppy. Upon entering this store I always feel like a piece of meat as the rep's work on commission I'm pretty sure. Some are very aggressive while some are busy texting on their phones. Also, some are dressed well and some look like they just got out of bed. Some reps will take you to the most expensive items for what you're looking for. What draws me to this is simply that I like their men's dress shoes. I don't like being looked up and down, being asked what I do, and seeing reps who are just flat out unprofessional looking. Terrible experience with customer service on a chat and on a phone call including with a manager (the 2nd call) both times put on hold (total of about an hour for all) and told each time like a robot "it's our policy." This was after my sincere explanation... and, I'm a long time Saks card holder. Story: I ordered two pair of shoes on sale in my usual shoe size. They arrived, one fit perfect, the other pair are too small, after years of shoe buying I can confirm they "run a size small" (note: no intel was provided about shoe sizing on the pair that were too small and there was no chat available). I asked to return and make an exchange (however I checked and next size up is sold out) or for a store credit would also be fine due to "final" sale. Don't buy makeup at Saks !!! I made a mistake by buying a $100 Lancôme moisturizer by reading online review but it turned out to be too oily for my face and my skin started to break out. Tried to return it back to the store within 2 weeks after purchase and the manager at the makeup department said they don't accept return unless it's salable. I know you can't resell it because I used it once but you can certain use it for tester. I bought expensive makeup at department because I want them to stand behind the product. The manager didn't even have the guts to tell me In person that they don't accept return or store credit. I will go back to Nordstrom from now on. read more

Before writing this review, I went to the store THREE times, called three times and emailed twice. I sent two emails about a week ago to customer service and still waiting for a "resolution" or a call back. I wanted to share my experience and also why I am so adamant about receiving a better customer service from this store. The average cost of women's shoes in America is $49. I have purchased maybe 3 or 4 pairs of shoes from Saks in the last 4 to 5 months. The average amount I have spent on each pair was a $1000. If someone is choosing to spend 95% more than the average population, it is based on the assumption that the product & service will be in the top 5 percentile. Otherwise what would be the difference between Saks vs Ross. clients who pay more for their shopping experience, naturally feel more entitled to better product & customer service.  Having said that, this all started with a pair of incorrect shoes that were delivered to me. The frustration increased when the sales associate breezily told me to just bring them back and we can swap it out. I found this solution to be extremely frustrating provided both myself & my significant other own businesses & have already been there twice. We work A LOT and it was not our mistake to fix. The next solution provided to me was to use the return label, call fed ex and schedule a pick up. Ofcourse the return label was not included either. Finally my boyfriend dropped by at saks in between his meetings. when her coworker looked up the past order, he said that the sales associate has not placed an order for those shoes. So here is the conclusion. I paid 95% more than the average customer for a product I did not want and for customer service that does not fall in the top 5 percentile. Still have not received an email or even a follow up on the complaint (wow). It seems that saks has an incorrect business model. For those of us operating on 4 hrs of sleep, we spoil ourselves with items we love. And because we work hard, we are able to afford those items for ourselves or our loved ones, who happen to be the primary customers of Saks. They should encourage clients to keep working hard & minimize their hassles so the hard working selfs do not find another department store for themselves and their loved ones. I mean, this was a birthday gift. my bday was Oct 3rd & it's Oct 29 today. so 1 month run around on a pair of shoes. Here is what saks missed in their model: Time = money More time = more money Hence, More time spent on saks hassle = less time to make money Less time to make money = less money spent at saks :( Even writing this email is taking me away from the other client inquires. Thus decreasing my interest in saks and encouraging my interest in neiman marcus. I highly advise reviewing your business model. I have some great links and articles I can share. I love the way that all the displays are shiny and well-organized, and the different departments are nicely set up for maximum shopper friendliness. I was recently on the market for a new pair of jeans. Enter: the "Contemporary" section (lower level). Step out of the elevator, and...what's that immediately to my right? A wall full of designer jeans! In less than 15 minutes I had my arms loaded down with all kinds of denim goodness in varying shades and cuts. 20 minutes later, I had found the True Religions of my dreams.
