We began our solar project with Bright Planet Solar in February 2024, expecting a smooth process. Instead, it took nearly a year to complete. Plagued by constant delays and miscommunication. After installation in June, we were told inspections would follow quickly, but weeks passed without updates. We had to chase down responses constantly, often being ignored for long stretches. In August, their technicians caused a power outage affecting our pool systems, then told us to hire our own electrician to fix it - despite it being their error and admitting they they did not know how to fix it themselves after two separate visits. Multiple site visits were required because Bright Planet failed to correctly configure the backup system, even assigning unnecessary loads like pool lights instead of essentials like our refrigerator and a/c. Meanwhile, holes were left in our roof after the panel install and the crew's trash on our roof -- unaddressed for months. We sent dozens of emails - many of them cc'd with project managers and company leadership -- asking for scheduling updates, status checks, and answers. Often, we were met with no response, or vague promises that "someone would reach out." Even after city inspection passed in October, we were stuck in limbo with no updates on when the system would actually be operational. The experience was defined by poor communication, careless mistakes, and a complete lack of ownership or urgency. We had to escalate internally just to get answers. What should have been an exciting investment turned into a nearly year-long headache. We're sharing this to warn other homeowners: Bright Planet Solar is not equipped to manage your solar project responsibly or professionally. They will take little to no responsibility to your frustrations. The entire process lacked coordination, transparency, and accountability. Several years ago, I contracted with Bright Planet Solar (BPS) to install rooftop solar and battery for a home in Stockton California. I received the closing docs and went forward with the install. During this time CA was in what was called the NEM (net energy metering) 2 solar tier and the power was sold back to the grid at a rate where the system nearly paid for itself. The above mentioned closing docs indicated NEM 2 however the contractor missed the install completion deadline and got permission to operate from the utility (PG&E) after the NEM 2 deadline. The end result is I would up in the NEM 3 tier (almost no benefit) with the system costing about $400.00/month to finance and electricity from PG&E still runs from $300 - $600/month. I am thus not saving money, and actually losing money paying double what I was before purchasing the system. The company's customer service basically said sorry, it was the contractor's fault (and was in fact their contractor), go talk to them or PG&E. I followed up with PG&E which is how I found about the missed start up deadline in the first place and the Utility could not (would not) help with the matter. In addition to all that, the documentation they filed with PG&E was all wrong and the electrical interconnection agreement had someone else's name on it! read more

My wife and I were excited to switch from conventional electric to a renewable and cost-effective means of power. After many discussions with our Bright Planet Solar sales rep, we decided to move forward with solar. To put it lightly, the entire process has been a complete nightmare. The BPS sales rep would keep us on hold while he drafted emails and made third-party phone calls. He once drove 1.5 hours to our house, unannounced to see the panels that were not scheduled to be installed until the FOLLOWING month. When it came time to sign the financial, installation, and service agreements, each one contained errors - misspelled names, wrong address, etc. The roofing company that BPS subcontracted to replace our roof, undid $1000's of dollars of work we had done to keep flying squirrels out of our attic. It took Bright Planet Solar 8 weeks of persistent outreach attempts to get the roofing company back to repair the damages so the pests could be re-eradicated. We also dealt with roof leaks (on our new roof) due to the fact that the flashing was not replaced during install. Bright Planet Solar also changed the layout and design of the system without notifying us. The contract we signed shows a completely different panel design and placement from what is actually on our roof. We also recently found that panels and inverters specified were of lower quality than what was on the installation agreement we signed. The most frustrating and extremely expensive part is that we were promised that our electric bill would be $7 each month and our solar loan payment would be $163.80 each month. This is all clearly documented in the signed Installation Agreement. We have continued to receive utility bills since our system was turned on. Our electric bills are far greater than $7. We are paying our electric bill which is upwards of $250 during the winter AND the solar loan which will be $223 each month (for 25 years). Bright Planet Solar compensated us for three months and then told us it was Lgcy Power's responsibility to compensate us. This lower monthly payment is one of the biggest reasons why we went solar and so far, we have gotten nothing but empty promises and expensive problems. I have recently reached out to the Better Business Bureau and Massachusetts Attorney General, but I feel that anyone considering dealing with this company should know what they're going to be dealing with, before they get into a terrible situation like us. read more

We wrote our first review when, five months after the panels were installed, nothing had happened and we had no functioning solar panels. It's now been another four months - for a total of nine months since installation - and they STILL have not been turned on because of BPS' repeated dropping the ball. There's no "Zero star" or "negative star" option but we'd give them that if we could. Again: it's been nine months since we had the panels installed on our roof, the sun is shining, our AC running - and the panels are just sitting there, collecting dust. At first, BPS put us off with "something is happening next week" or "the turn-around is 2 weeks, so we'll let you know" and those two seeks come and go and nothing happens. Then, they started telling us flat-out lies, and when we called them on the lies, they went utterly silent. They've made no attempt to contact us, to make us feel better about useless solar panels sitting on our roof, or to offer us the slightest compensation for the 9-month delay. Run away - as fast as you can. It's a terrible company, with terrible customer service, and if you sign with them, they'll tell you "sorry, you signed a contract and now you're stuck with us for 25 years, even if we haven't actually done a thing." We started the process in the fall of last year and have yet to have our solar panels activated. Their installation techs damaged our roof. When they came to fix what they damaged, the contractor left my rain guard in the driveway with all the screws and cowlings. It's been a month and it still sits there. Their customer service is either uninterested or straight up hostile. They refuse to acknowledge their mistakes (incomplete paperwork for permission to operate) and took two months to refile the paperwork. When I shared that it is their job to proper file the paperwork and follow up with the customer if issues arise, their account manager yelled at me and hung up on me. He also refused to let me speak with the owner. Mike, are you there? I wish I could give negative stars. This is the most dysfunctional company I've ever dealt with. read more

While they did a good job installing solar, their inspection of my roof's condition was inaccurate. My roof was in very bad shape and they installed solar on my roof anyway. My approval of the solar installation hinged on the condition of my roof. Had they told me I need a new roof, I would never have installed. I just had a new roof put on my home and it cost me double because I had to also pay for the removal and replacement of the solar panels. Also, two roofing contractors have told me that the braces they used to hold the solar panels are an inferior type. There is much better equipment available. I regret I am stuck with what I have. It does work, but could be bad for my roof in the long run. Neither Bright Planet nor the solar company they contract through has any interest in this mistake, which has cost me dearly. I do love having the solar panels, though. PG&E rates are sky high and it saves me a bundle. I just hope it all adds up to be a benefit, in the end. Right now, I am unsure. read more

They changed the original site plan days before the installation to remove panels and install less. The day of the installation they dug a trench on my property that was not on the initial site plan, ripped up my landscaping and 2 weeks later it is still not put back to the original plan. All I get from customer service is we will do what we can. No one is taking responsibility and I keep getting passed to different departments receiving non committal answers. Bright Planet Solar installed my solar panels and they are supposed to help fix them if they aren't working. I got them in 2021 and was never told that there was an app Solar Edge that I needed to monitor them. Cut to 2024 when I am charged way more money from SoCA Edison and call them to find out why. They tell me my solar panels are not generating electricity or working. I pay a monthly payment to purchase my solar panels on top of that (meanwhile 7 months of no electricity being produced from them). Bright Planet Solar refuses to compensate my lease payments for the 7 months now that my solar panel had not been working. They have also not shown up to 2 service calls to my house and don't contact me to tell me anything. I have had to call them multiple times to find out if someone came and what occurred only to be told that no one came. They finally told me about the app to monitor it all in January 2024, then I had to call back to have them send an activation email. I told them I would report them to the CA consumer complaint, and urge others to do that as well if you aren't getting what you paid for. We have now paid our utility (SDG&E) AND the solar for 2 months, for a total of $1200! I thought solar was supposed to save us money not cost more? I'm unable to tell what state the bad reviews are from, but I'm in California and unfortunately do not have anything good to say. We were told that they would be reinforcing our roof prior to installing as specified by the inspecting engineer and that it was part of the installation. A few weeks later they installed. Then we received a call to schedule the reinforcement??? Very confused we went ahead and scheduled it only to have the guys arrive and say they can't do it after installation. We then received a call to upgrade our electrical panel, scheduled and they never showed up. Two months later we are still waiting to be updated. It's been fourteen months since we met with the salesman. Now the drywall on our ceiling is beginning to show cracks directly under the area where the installers were accessing our roof. read more

Do not use Bright Planet or Sunrun, who contracts with Bright Planet. In November 2021, we signed up for solar panels through Sunrun. After taking our money, Bright Planet shows up to install the panels. The crew was friendly but wow, did they do a horrible job. They left 2 holes in my roof, which I didn't discover for another month; the wires were run incorrectly and here's the cherry on top, it's now December 2022 and we have yet to pass a city inspection. At this point, it's pure comedy with one inspector saying, "is this a Bright Planet job? Uh oh, I better do a thorough job." We've now had 9 inspections that have failed from improper grounding wires to NOT FOLLOWING THE BUILDING PLANS CORRECTLY! When we call customer service, they do nothing. I called our SunRun rep and he does nothing. At this point I've given up hope. Please do yourself a favor and DO NOT USE ANY COMPANY CONTRACTING WITH BRIGHT PLANET! UPDATE- the holes in my roof were fixed but while doing so, the crew cracked 3 tiles. Incompetence can't describe the work Bright Planet does. UPDATE #2 - my panels are being inspected tomorrow by LA County. I'm hoping 10th time is the charm but not holding my breath. Update #3 - beware of fake reviews. This is the first bad review I have ever taken the time to write. However, this nightmare warrants the time needed to annotate what has happened to me so I can protect others from the same thing happening to them. I am currently active duty military, and am on a very tight budget. Bright Planet Solar promised to help me save money by switching to solar. It sounded like a great deal, almost too great, and now, low and behold I have come to find out I was right. I was told the whole process would take no longer than 3 weeks, and here I am over 3 months later from when I signed the contract, and not only is the system half way installed but they started charging me on it. So now I'm paying for half a Solar System on my roof (just the panels- nothing else installed), and my electric bill. I simply cant afford that with my military pay. This experience has been a true nightmare for me, and I caution anyone who is considering using Bright Planet Solar to strongly reconsider their choice. Another thing to mention: One of the big reasons I went with this offer was because money is tight, and it was a great way to pay for a new roof on the house I recently purchased using my VA loan. After the first rain, the roof was leaking again... No more is needed to be said about that, but it is worth taking a minute to think about. Bright Planet Solar cuts so many corners and completely disrespect their customers. Imagine signing a 20 year loan with a company, and all of this happening to you. This has raised my levels of anxiety and stress across the board and has also caused me plenty of restless nights. This company does not care about you: your home, your energy, your time. Bright Planet oscillates between eye-watering incompetence and overt scamming. Their installation looks terrible, even now, after multiple installation days and multiple days attempting to fix their mistake (only at our repeated insistence), spread out over months. They drilled THROUGH OUR CEILING and we had to FIGHT them to fix it. They sent over random men on two different occasions to botch the job before FINALLY sending a professional. The solar panels look like they are falling into the roof, which they refuse to fix. They have left unsightly plastic railings sticking out at random angles on our roof. They "didn't have the right tool" to fix it. These people are dishonest. They barely respond to correspondence, refuse to give direct names or email addresses, and phone calls to the main line (the only line they will provide you) will leave you on hold and then passed around to people of various levels of incompetence and lack of caring. We were lied to by the salesman, who literally laughed at me when I called him to find out why it was taking so long, then he hung up on me--his name is Todd Hildebrand. Panels were installed mid-January 2023 and we've been strung along since then. The installation crew was professional, knowledgeable, quick and thorough. Once they left, that was the end of BritePlanet customer service. They kept blaming our power company. And honestly, our story sounds like all the others on this page. State inspection finally happened this week--just a few days after I threatened a complaint to the NH attorney general. Coincidence? I think not. We passed and are in the line for our reverse meter, 10-15 days according to Eversource. SunRun is the finance company and they were not helpful either. Biggest buyers remorse we have ever had, and we haven't spent any money! Can't wait to see how they're going to try and screw us. People just show up, no call, text, or email... after you wait for weeks or months for some type of contact. We are now in October and still nothing has been completed, but the installation, and they are now starting to charge the monthly payments through their financing company Mosaic. What horrible customer service they have been "trying to figure out" the issue for a month now and still no answer. They installed different and cheaper solar panels than the one I paid for. I found out from my utility company That I had different solar panels than the one specified in my contract. BPS installed YL3320D-03b from china. My original contract was with these Chinese solar panels, but I canceled that contract because I wanted the Sunpower SPR-A40 panels made in the USA. After all, they produce more power than the one from china. I paid around $4k extra for the Supower panels, and BPS did not install them. When I called BPS, they confirmed that they installed the Chinese solar panel and that at this point, all I can do is talk with the representative who sold me the panels so he can deal with BPS. BPS did not honor our contract and stole money from me. Just run away from the company; it has been a headache to deal with them since day 1. read more

Terrible customer service. Tech relayed to me that my solar system was operational and would start seeing my system generate energy to be credited by my electric company. After talking with the electric company, I was told my system should not be on as I was not given the authority to operate on the grid and BPS shouldn't have left it on. They expressed this was a major safety hazard and could cost the customer extra money because the system was on without being credited to the bill. I brought it up with the customer service and accounting and the accounting office was completely rude. Highly recommend going through another installer or company. Worst experience ever. I had panels installed in early April. It is almost July and I am still awaiting another city inspection. Bright Planet has stood me up on FOUR separate occasions, claiming the city never got back to them. "Why?" I then ask, "Has no one from Bright Planet contacted me? I wait until the day is over, just to have wasted yet another day off work." Customer Service is horrible at Bright Planet and they simply don't care. This company wants to cheap out as much as possible. I have a 8.19 peak system and they install a 6000 Inverter! My system keeps getting clipped at 6.0. I spoke to Chad, a supervisor, and he actually was helping me and set up an appointment to install a 7.6 inverter. However, the installers showed up and said I should have a 10 inverter, so they left and and said it would be installed the following week. No one showed up. I had to call again and ask customer support. They said someone would get back to me in a day. No one called. I called back and asked for Chad, but he was on vacation. I spoke to another supervisor who said they'd look at production to see if it warranted it. No one called me back. I called another supervisor and he called the project manager who gave me crap about my inverter being able to produce 155%, but it HASN'T EVER DONE IT. It starts the same time and ramps up slower than my brother, who has a 7.6 inverter. I'm getting clipped and no one except Chad cared. Even upgrading to a 7.6, I'd get clipped. But at least with eventual degradation that clipping would go away. They just don't want to spend the money to send someone to my house and installer a slightly higher cost inverter. Also, my monitoring has NEVER worked properly. It stops monitoring every 2 days or so and it only updates the following day. I've called multiple times about this and Customer Support blames Solaredge instead of fixing it. read more

Panels were installed July 9th 2022 and today April 24 2023 they are still not working. He had to call  every week and they disconnected all the calls. We called the utility company and they are telling us everything is ready and done on their end. I can't even imagine paying 50k to this company and after almost a year we don't have anything done and we had to pay every month. In my entire life I never had any experience like this. After I submitted my first complaint a few weeks ago I had a call from someone in the company....
