The Staff is friendly & helpful. Kelvin is amazing, he does a drive through of the Park prior to his shift so he can give daily updates, there is a board listing his sightings. He is also an expert on the area and willing to take the time to discuss the refuge, and directions to other possible spots to visit. Birders, do not pass on the opportunity to speak to Kelvin if he is available. One of the best we have had the pleasure of speaking to on NWR Journey. Weather was dismal, but the Wildlife Drive was incredible, we did two days in a row & saw plenty of wildlife.

The two main issues are that number one it really doesn't have a whole lot for older kids to do as a large portion of the play items are for the maybe say seven and under crowd. Number two issue would that while I'm sure this park is a ghost town in the off season, in season it's simply too small for the number of kids/parents who are here everyday from a very early hour to a very late hour. The good stuff would be that the park has a bathroom, if you're into tennis the courts are mostly deserted, the basketball courts are in good shape even though they always were crowded and if you need something while your there you've got either Hoy's, Blitz's, The Scoop Box or the 34th Street Farm and Garden Center all right across the street. Don't get me wrong in that it's great that this place exists versus another block of condo rentals it's just that while it's nice, it just wasn't nearly as nice as the pictures online made it seem nor did it offer as much to do as I imagined. There's a small parking lot which I was able to find a spot but is also about half a dozen spots. The light house is on a big property and there's some stuff to see before you go to the main building. A small building with some information inside. The building has a small store and activity area and restrooms as well. We were greet right away and you only pay if you want to go up to the top of the lighthouse. I ended up doing that and it was a hike. There are stations along the way or rest stops if you need them. There's a window at every stop and each stop faces a different direction. There's also pamphlets at each window with information and history. Once you reach the top it's a nice view and there are bars so you can walk around the top of the lighthouse. There was also a gentleman up there that gave you a "made it to the top" card and he was very knowledgeable if you had any questions. Awesome place to visit.

Not gonna lie, this was the main attraction and reason for my visit to the region. It was the one…read morething I wanted to see and made sure it was the last thing I saw on my way out of town. I have been obsessing over Lucy for a bit and needed to make a visit. Guess we can go over the history a bit. Built in 1882, this stands as the oldest roadside attraction in the country. Novelty architecture was used to model this building after Jumbo, the famous elephant from Barnum and Bailey's. Also, to note, Lucy is a boy. Lucy was first known as 'Elephant Bazaar' and used for real estate advertising. When Lucy changed hands around 1887, it went through changes of business type. 1902 brought the Lucy moniker. Through the 20th century Lucy served as a restaurant, business office, and tavern on the business side of things. Supposedly during prohibition the 'eyes' of Lucy would let patrons know if they were open or being raided. It also served as a way to get items into the building without detection. Lucy also served as a home for a time. You can see evidence of this when you visit. There are markings on the walls inside that would tell you they added a floor to add rooms. You can also look into an area that is one of the legs where they added a bathtub. Small, but pretty cool. In the 1960s Lucy started to fall into disrepair. Because of this Lucy was slated for demolition, but in 1970 they fought and saved the building. In fact, Lucy had to be moved from its original spot to its current spot. Then fundraising started to restore the building. Speed up to today. I stopped by on my way out of the area for my visit. I got here early and was worried that I might be ticketed or towed if I had stayed parked in the spots immediately in front of Lucy. I decided to park on the street, plenty of parking there without the threat of towing. Currently you have to visit a building across the street to purchase a ticket for admission and this is where the gift shop is. Tours of the inside happen roughly every 45 minutes starting at opening. You go up as a group and get a guided tour. Take it from me, a tour from a local is better than one you might get from part time employee that is a teenager. Our tour guide was amazing and gave us so much interesting information. They give you the details about the time it was a residence and the prohibition thing. Once you see the inside and get all the lowdown on it, you get to venture up to the howdah. This is the carriage portion of Lucy. From here you get some great views of the area. You see the beach and ocean, water tower with Lucy on it, and the condo building that necessitated the move of Lucy. You are basically walking on glass up here too. Although you cannot see through the glass. There is so much care in this building. They recently finished recladding the exterior of the building and plan to do more here in the coming months and years. Give Lucy a visit if you are in the area and explore and very unique building. Cape May County Park North (aka Cameron Wildlife Sanctuary) is apparently a hot secret, because…read moreonly one other car was in the parking lot when I was there on a weekday in the summer. This is a BEAUTIFUL park / wildlife refuge. Trails wind everywhere through the woods, to hammock clearings, scenic spots with benches to sit, a few ponds stocked with ripe lilly pads, picnic areas, a park office, etc. This park is extremely well maintained, with no litter anywhere. Yes, DOGS ARE ALLOWED here. Despite contrary info I got from calling the parks office, there are signs stating the rules for dogs to visit the property, dog waste stations with bags, etc. Well behaved, leashed dogs, are permitted. This is a wildlife sanctuary, so it is lucky they have recently chosen to allow this. It's less than a 10 minute walk to the first pond, and that alone is worth the trip. There are little islands in the pond, with benches on them. Really enchanting. The history of this property is that in the late 19th C, sand was mined here to make cement for Ocean City, as well as to make South Jersey Glass. The Great Depression ended production here, and the landowners filled the sand quarries with water, and stocked them for their own leisure fishing. The property was willed to the county in 1988 to be made into a park. In the summer, you MUST wear bug repellent. Even with repellent, I was covered with mosquitoes if I stopped walking for a few seconds. So just beware and be prepared. While picnicking would be serene here, it is probably best to do it in the months when mosquitoes aren't around. Also, gate locks at 4pm sharp!

I see knocked down signs, loved ones plaques that go missing, vandalized trees, and trash cans pushed over with debris on the ground. I'd like to advise anyone and make aware that whoever is thinking about planting a memorial tree for their loved ones to be very careful.
