Anyway, when I moved recently, I decided that I was going to downgrade from my current plan with U-verse (internet and cable w/DVR) to internet only. This was huge, friends. HUGE. If there's one thing you should know about me, it's that I'm a sucker for reality TV. Every trashy reality TV show on Bravo you can think of? I was a fan, and it was all on my DVR, along with countless other shows I'm too embarrassed to mention in this review. So for me to go from 300+ channels and DVR to absolutely NO TV (not even basic cable, folks -- I was quitting this sucker cold turkey!) was a huge feat for me. And apparently, it was also a huge feat for U-verse, who wasn't making this transition pleasant for me. So I cut the cord on U-verse as well. And I went with Clear instead. After a simple phone call, I had a SUPER reasonably priced internet-only plan set up. Instead of waiting for days for a cable company to come over and hook up my internet, I received a cable modem in the mail the VERY NEXT DAY. It was super easy to hook up, and BAM! I had internet. Like I said, I've been with Clear since April, and have had their service in both Brentwood and Maplewood. In both areas, I've had no problems with connectivity, internet speed, or anything else. My internet is just as fast as it was with U-verse (and before that, Charter), and it's reasonably priced. The one downside to Clear is that I am locked into a 2 year contract, but since it's not tied to one particular address (like I said, I had this service in Brentwood, and now in Maplewood), I didn't see an issue with that. I will be using the internet for the next two years (and beyond!) after all. One big plus: unlike Charter and U-verse, Clear has NO data cap on streaming. That means I can Netflix away without worrying about exceeding my data limit (and paying a hefty fee) every month. And I'll be honest: I do occasionally stream my trashy reality TV as well. It's like a drug, I swear. Do they have rehab for reality TV show addicts?

I have called their support line and been assured by whatever agent I spoke to that the issue was corrected before I started getting daily calls from a collection agency where I have been charged for wifi service I had no way of even using as I had no AT&T wifi modem to use this service with as the replacement never arrived to me, just like the faulty wifi modem somehow got lost on its way back to AT&T. What an absolutely horrible company with godawful, lying customer service agents.

On contracting the company, the agent offered a special: transfer the land line and phone number to a cell phone and reduce monthly costs about $60. I accepted the offer. The new phone came promptly. I received several messages to activate the phone. When we tried to activate, the agent could not find the account number, and referred us back to the land line department. The land line folks told us that we have to restore the land line to be able to transfer to the mobile department. And, of course, we are told the phone would be added to the current bill. It appears that the 'left hand' does not know what the 'right hand' is doing. And now all we have is a non-working cell phone and phone number! The company needs to figure out how to resolve this issue and let us know. Even worse, employees have no interest in learning basic information about "other" services. This is a very poor way to run a business. In attempting to resolve this issue, it took multiple phone calls to both mobile and landline areas. I also received email messages saying "Action Required: Contact Us to Complete Your Number Transfer" However, the message does not say which office is experiencing the "issue." Nor does the message say what the issue is. It is very uninformative. This message appears to be sent even when no action is required by the customer. Again, this is a very poor way to run the business. My wife and I discussed transferring our mobile numbers from another provider to Spectrum. With all the challenges just transferring a land line number to mobile, I guess it would be even worse transferring from one company to Spectrum. One company would blame the other for any issues. Note: Generally, Charter Spectrum does a good job. My rating is only for the recent interactions noted above.

She told me if I canceled it they would have to upgrade my internet and they would send me new equipment. Since the service was at my cottage and it was closed for the winter, I explained that no one was there to except it. We went round and round and I finally asked her to cancel my service. She said I'd have to drop off the equipment. I explained that there was nobody there to drop it off. I ended up paying the whole amount and will never use the again. We called back again this time prepaired to stay on as long as needed to get the service canceled. THE CALL LASTED ALMOST 3 HOURS AND THEY STILL WOULDNT CANCEL!!!! We received annother bill so we wrote on it that we called to cancel and didn't owe anything. After 2 months we got another bill deducting one month. Then we received an email with return labels for the equipment. Now they have turned the account over to a collection agency for the month after we called to cancel. We are disputing!

The staff was really helpful with this whole process - they even printed off multiple plans so we could easily compare options and pick what was best for us. We were able to walk out with a new phone, a new phone plan, and a discount because I'm a nurse all in under an hour. The Verizon customer service representative told me the store was wrong and gave us bad information. To make matters worse, we can't get off this plan for a month even though it has been cancelled. Stay away from this store and don't sign up for any of their streaming services.

Rates stayed low throughout with no hidden fees. But the best part of my experience was actually when it came time to cancel my service. When I have used other (bigger corporate) internet providers canceling my service was almost impossible and came with lots of extra charges. When I let Elite Fiber know I was moving and needed to turn off service, they turned off my autopay and began closing down my account within a day. They were also responsive and personable in all my communications with them.
