I went into my appointment bubbly and excited for my friend and I to get meaningful tattoos for someone we have lost, and to get a bff matching "freckle tattoo," too. Due to my depression, I have not gotten out too much in the past couple years, so this was a big day for me on my healing journey. I drove over an hour away from NJ. From the moment we first interacted with Rob at the appointment, his tone was demeaning, condescending, disrespectful, annoyed, disgusted, disgruntled, and flat out mean. My friend got her tattoo done first, and when I stood up to take a 2 second video to document our special day/tattoos, he snapped at me that I needed to sit down bc I was a peripheral distraction. He was annoyed I asked him if a bathroom was closeby, and told me I had to wait instead of him just telling me where it was. When it was my turn to be tattooed, I asked if he could put a little paw print over the "i" in my dogs name. He said no. I asked if he could put a heart there? He scoffed and begrudgingly said "ugh, yeah. I guess?" When he did the placement I was unsure if I wanted the front or the back of my arm, so I asked him to do the stencil on the back of my arm too, in which he was annoyed. I was unsure of how the tattoo fit my arm and the placement, and as I stood there and debated with my friend, he offered no insight, just sat there silent and looking disgusted. Meanwhile I am standing there holding my dogs toy, who passed away, just trying to get it right. I have anxiety and the more I could not decide, and the more he made me feel uncomfortable, I was like nervously touching my arm in areas, in which he yelled at me "I TOLD YOU. DONT TOUCH YOUR ARM. THATS NOT SANITARY." Then when I nervously put my phone on the arm of the chair, again got berated for not being sanitary. The more discomfort I felt, I got upset and undecided on the tattoo, to which I offered a solution to us just standing ther awkwardly getting no direction or input from him, and I said "can you just do the freckle tattoo for me while i decide on the placement for my dog tattoo?" to which he appallingly replied, "well I am not your servant." Up until that point, l'd let go being berated for literally every word I said and move I made in the presence of this man, but that was enough for me. I told him the way he had treated me was unacceptable, and that I no longer felt comfortable getting the tattoo for my dog. Since my friend had already gotten her freckle tattoo, I felt I had to at least do that, because it was supposed to be meaningful for us, and I didn't want us leaving with only her having got it done. Defeats the whole purpose. So he did the freckle tattoo for me, then said he would just keep my security deposit($50). So I paid $50 for a freckle tattoo, smaller than a pencil eraser and to be treated in an abusive manner. I waited a few days to post this, to see if he would reach out to try to take accountability, but nothing. I am far from a sensitive person, and I know how to defend myself against bullies, so I post this for the people who might be more sensitive than I, who are unable to stand up for themselves. I would not want anyone else to ever have to go through the experience that I did, as it was emotionally damaging even for me.

It has remained one of my favorite pieces of art all these years later. So when I finally decided I was ready for my chef tattoo, he was the artist I wanted. I was thrilled when he responded to my inquiry with genuine enthusiasm. I could not be more pleased with what we created together. The theme was food plants--but not the food itself--so the piece includes tomato plants, rosemary, chamomile, basil, nasturtium, and some of the critters that live around them. The whole sleeve flows beautifully with the anatomy of my arm in a way that still kind of blows my mind. Later, I asked Kiel to create a memorial tattoo for my father and uncle. With just a few prompts, he designed a vibrant and deeply personal tribute to two of the best men I've ever known. Everything has healed beautifully. Kiel is also wonderful to sit with through long sessions. We end up talking about books, movies, video games, parenting, and the general chaos of trying to be adults in a strange world. The conversation makes the hours easier, and meaningful. He's a genuinely kind human being and an incredibly talented artist. His understanding of anatomy, movement, and color theory makes his work feel alive on the body. I would recommend him wholeheartedly to anyone looking for something distinctive and personal, especially if you're willing to trust a gifted artist to collaborate with you creatively. 10/10. My gf went recently (she has gone to them before) and the pieces he did for her were just amazing. The day she was getting another done, she asked me to stop by. Since I was in the area I though... Why not. Joseph answered a lot of questions I had and was very nice. A short time after, I stopped by again to show him the 2 tattoos I had found and was very interested in. He had me email them to him and had his ideas ready for when I got there. The suggestions he made for my tattoo were absolutely spot on!! He made a stencil and placed it where I wanted it and ironically enough, we bough thought it needed to move just a little bit (i felt bad asking, but then realizing that getting a tattoo is not like buying anything else where u could just return it... When he mentioned it... I was happy). Ok, so I was a little nervous since it's been years since my last tattoo. Joseph made me feel so comfortable and at ease. I felt nothing (except my endorphins flowing). It really took no time at all... I couldn't believe we were done. I was 1/2 tempted to get the 2nd one I had found Bc the experience had been so great. Although Joseph comes off very quiet and almost a little shy... Once u get talking to him, not only is he amazing to find out about, but definitely a funny guy My tattoo was done and was time for the 'unveiling'... Omg... I could not have been any happier with the work he did!! Honestly!! Just absolutely beautiful! As far as cost... Well... He listened to our ideas of what we wanted and transcribed them into a beautiful piece of art that represented the love and bond my mom, big sister, and I share. We had a 12pm appointment and were on time. There is a bit of paperwork needed and another couple arrived right before us. Brian took care of my wife. He did one of her other tattoos. She has gotten all of her tattoos here. He took her in around 1215pm. Ambiance is a tattoo parlor. Samples of the artist's work are hanging all around. I sat in a comfy leather couch while I waited.
