Wow. Just wow. So good!!! Do not visit or pass through Arcata without stopping in at Brio. I had the herb and cheese omelet and it was phenomenal. The chef here understands eggs and I'm here for that. Nothing worse to me than eggs that are overcooked and my omelet was expertly prepared, removed from the heat and allowed to finish cooking with its own heat. And the herbs added were delightful. This came with a multigrain toast and that was also very good. My dining partner had a breakfast sandwich on a toasted croissant and enjoyed it very much. It came with 2 eggs, prepared to your request and a generous portion of ham. The latter, I'm told, was the best ever, from anywhere, while my plain coffee was lovely. The staff here is very friendly and helpful. There is table space inside and outside. On the morning we went, it was still a bit cool outside so we stayed indoors and felt comfortable especially since the doors were open. I must try some of their other baked goods the next time I'm in Arcata - they all looked glorious! read more

I was passing through Arcata on a business trip yesterday, and stopped off at Brio for coffee; just wasting time before boarding a puddle jumper back to Sacramento. Looks like it blends in perfectly with the rest of the village square in a college town (Humboldt State). The place is clean and quiet (no cell phones allowed? Dayum!) The crowd is. . .well, UC Davis demographic: caucasian, goatees & glasses, reading Wall Street Journal, Jane Austen and Marcel Proust, critiquing off-Broadway plays and vegan restaurants, looking at me as I entered like "what's he doing here?" I ordered a coffee and a chocolate biscotti. When I got to the counter to pay, I saw loaves of fresh bread; one in particular caught my eye: a cranberry-walnut sourdough. I bought all of it for less than $10. The barista (it's trippin' me out to talk about this) had a spotless white chef uniform on, and a freakin' chef's hat. He brewed me a fresh cup out of one of those espresso machines. It was darn good. I could have done without the biscotti; it was a'ight. I put the loaf of cranberry-walnut sourdough in a ziploc last night, and ate some for breakfast this morning. Lord, have mercy....it was so amazingly good. I was going to take one star off for the stuck-up atmosphere, but realized that I'm judging on outward appearances, and while that's cool for judging the quality of restaurant, it's kinda inappropriate for grading clientele. If you're Eureka or Arcata and you love -- or even like -- bread, Brio is an absolute must. read more

Brio makes the best bread for Nor Cal! Bread & Cie are in a run for their money , should Brio ever make its way down to SD! The first time I sampled their bread was in the hospital waiting room. They got this Klamata olive bread that my little sister adores, her friend brought some to us while we were hangin out and waiting for moms to get better! Olives and I, dont mesh well. But this bread was just that damn good that I didnt care about any olives in it. It was flakey where it needed to be flakey and doughy where it needed to be doughy! A small loaf went fast between the 4 of us! Brio bread is served in a ton of restaurants all over town, too. I had it at the restuarant on the Marina in Eureka and a few other places. There was always some in the house, as well. Its really yummy! My sister doesnt know how she will survuve down at Chico this coming year without a Brio bread fix! I dont know how I will handle it all the way in SD without a Brio bread fix either! Time for moms to start makin care packages !! read more

Brio Bakery has THE BEST coffee/espresso in Humboldt County (in addition to bread). No longer a totally broke college student, I now enjoy their food here as well. I love their eggs florentine for brunch with a mimosa (made with fresh squeezed orange juice). I still thing their grab-and-go sandwiches are little too pricey for what you get, but I like them anyway and indulge from time to time. The best is getting brunch here on a sunny morning, sitting outside and enjoying the plaza. Go here for coffee/espresso!! read more

Brio breadworks is scrumptious! I particularly like the sweet French bread and the Foccacia. Both stay fairly fresh into the second day. I also love the seeded leaf-like baguette but it super tough. You have to have it right out of the oven or dip it in soup. Brio bread is sold all over Arcata but is sold out by the afternoon so plan ahead. read more

I visited Arcata for a few days, I'm from San Diego, and I discovered Brio's Multigrain bread(unsliced, which I must have), and, it is absolutely the best bread I have ever had. I at three loaves of that this week. Awesome fuel , my body loves that bread. Practical perfection in bread I've never really experienced before. I eat bread for the bread, not for use as sandwich skin. And I rarely or occasionaly eat loaf bread(unsliced of course) because there's basically no great bread, but now I found it, so I might mail order it. I even notified one of the local San Diego artisan bakeries to contact Brio, get the recipe, and make the Brio Mulitgrain bread(unsliced of course) read more

I had one item from Brio's cafe the first time I went, and it won me over forever and ever. Picture this: a fresh, soft ciabatta roll, slathered generously with chevre from the local goatie farm, perfectly caramelized onions, and ripe avocado. I've been there twice in the last month. Both times I had pretty good food, but the wait time was terrible, I'd eat my entire snack before receiving a drink (water one time, fresh juice the other). We had to hunt down our food because although we were given a number for our table, nobody ever brought us anything. No reason to go back when there when there are so many other choices in town. read more

While staying with friends in Arcata I found myself devouring their bread en mass. After asking them about it they pointed me to Brio Breadworks, their locally supplied bakery. The bread is so delicious, fresh and crusty. I am sad that I didn't try their galettes as they sounded wonderful but there is only so much you can do in 2 days. I would love to have something like this in Chicago but I doubt we have the local supplier to keep something this delicious going. read more

Hells yes this place is awesome. I havn't been in Humboldt County since 2006 and I still miss the bread. Am constantly on the look-out for a bakery with bread as tasty as here, but alas, i have never found one. It's quite possible that it is the best bread bakery in California. worth it to drive up there to taste this delicious bread. the baguettes are incredible: light and fluffy on the inside and crispy crunchy on the outside. perfect like baguettes in france. you can find this bread at pretty much any place in arcata, but my favorite spot to buy it was at wildwood's.they always had a good selection and only ran out late at night. my favorites were the sweet rolls and the epis, but you try pretty much anything and you'll find a winner, for reals. read more

Best bread in Humboldt, best coffee, too. This is the only place I've found locally that know how to make espresso correctly; even so, I usually just get the drip coffee (note: it take a long while to get the drip, done to order, so hold off on eating your pastry!) The pastries are fabulous and the other menu items we've had (salads, sandwiches) have also been great. There's not a lot of seating, so it can be difficult to get a seat at certain times. read more

brio is amazing. it's a "dream come true" sort of place, at least for me. they have the uncanny ability to take simple ingredients and prepare them in a way that you never could. everything is local, organic, fresh, and tastes so clean and pure. that's not to say it's healthy - they serve many things that are too delicious to be good for you. the cakes, sticky buns, fresh fruit galettes (seasonal, of course), and quiche are just heavenly. if you seek savory treats they have organic prosciutto and cheeses that are exactly what you are looking for. brio started small, honing their bread-making abilities, and has flourished with the opening of their new cafe. now they have full meals available (reservation only is my understanding) on the weekends. i look forward to enjoying a full 5 course meal one of these sundays! i can't say enough about brio. every neighborhood could use a brio; that is, a place where locals can gather to enjoy the harvest of local agriculture, enjoy a good cup of coffee, and relax. read more

The best bread in... well possibly california. I have not had bread this good since I lived in Paris. You can find brio products all over the Arcata and humboldt area. Often a shop or restaurant will have the option to upgrade your bread to brio for a small fee. It is always worth it, do it. read more

Very solid baker, don't get this confused with the brio cafe as Shannon did, it's a little hole in the wall that produces the bread for many stores and restaurants in the area, though you are welcome to stop in and buy some. Very consistent, very good. read more

Seriously, I would sell my car for one of the chocolate chip cookies here (and I love my car)! 70% of the cookie is made from French chocolate. The cookie has a light crisp on the outside and is chewy on the inside. The topper, oh yes the lovely topper, is Fleur de sel from the ocean of DAMN! I'm telling you, this is the best cookie I have ever had! I have been eating the bread for years and they seem to have started the kalamata olive trend. The cafe' has a cool vibe. You can sit outside on sunny days (it isn't always cloudy in Arcata). The conversation is lively. One customer had a really old "dating" book. Remember "mystery date"? Kind of like that. A bit strange for Arcata, but love the one you're with. The coffee, which is individual drip, is strong, full bodied and worth the wait. Even my old school father-in-law no longer says, "$2 for a cup of coffee? I never pay over a dollar at the V and N burger bar." Do not miss this place on your visit! read more

Maybe I just went on an off day, looking at all of the good reviews here, but I was unimpressed. The quiche I initially ordered was dry and contained things that weren't specified in the description (a problem, because I was allergic to one of them), took a surprisingly long time to get to my table, and ultimately lukewarm and not worth the trouble of taking apart to remove the offending vegetable. My husband got the ham and something else version, and had the same complaints about simultaneous dryness and lukewarmness. We both ended up with almond croissants, which were okay but nothing special. The lattes were quite good, although, again, a long time coming. I loved the physical setting, though: high, pine beams above a light and airy room, with a pastry display case boasting several deserts that I wish I could have justified sampling at breakfast instead of the mediocre croissant.
