If you haven't been to this great little hideaway in Arcata, you've been missing out. I was meeting a friend in Arcata today because it was halfway for us both. I suggested the Slice of Humboldt Pie because I hadn't been there in a while. We had a great experience with comfortable ambiance to sit and talk. We stayed a couple of hours and enjoyed the fact that they have beer and wine. The savory hand pies combined with a small salad made for a great lunch! I know most people think of their desserts which our amazing but don't skip the savory pies. They have quiches, pot pies, salads and hand pies and then you can finish with dessert. I love that this place has both sweet and savory pies!! I came here with my parents for dessert one evening and we each got a generous slice of pie (pictured). We tried the banana cream, peanut butter, and cherry pies. The slices came out pretty quickly and all were quite tasty. Unfortunately I was too full to finish my piece. The real showstopper to me, however, was the veggie curry pot pie that I tried later in the week. We ordered to-go so I didn't get a picture but that pot pie was awesome! Amazing! What a cute and welcoming place. Seating inside and outside. There's indoor and outdoor games to play with. The business concert of just selling both savory and sweet pies (individual and whole) is amazing. We got there when it was empty and by the time we left it was hoppin! We got one banana cream pie (which was so good we ate it before we remembered to get a picture) and one raspberry lemon pie. Both slices tasted amazing. This is probably one of the best pies I've had in my life. My friend and I were planning to share one sweet and one savory pie. Before leaving the place, we were going to sample a single bite of the sweet pie, but we ended up eating the whole thing. So we got another sweet pie for later that night. We tried the strawberry rhubarb, apple, and pumpkin coconut pies. The strawberry rhubarb had the perfect amount of tartness. You can never go wrong with an apple pie. The pumpkin coconut was such a unique twist on a pie. The flavors in this were top notch and was very filling. The best part about these pies is the crust. It's the perfect amount of flakiness with the right amount of salt. The inside of the shop is cute. There's board games and coloring sheets. I was in town for my cousins graduation. This place was near our airbnb. We walked over after dinner and this place was actually pretty busy. It stays open late, the person who helped us at the counter was nice, and the pie was delicious. He and I got the peanut butter and chocolate slice and ooh man..smooth, creamy, rich but not too strong. I would have loved to come back and try some of their lunch food options. Who doesn't love a hand pie? So many inventive flavors too! I like spicy, my wife likes veggie, we always pick a couple and round it off with a salad. It makes a great meal and it feels really great to support this Humboldt grown place. I love the new location, it's so nice the enjoy the patio on a sunny day. Any day. Usually while we're there we grab a pot pie or extras to have for dinner that night or lunch the next day. The dipping sauces are worth it. They keep super well in the fridge or the freezer. Don't forget the sweet pies too. The peanut butter fudge is my favorite. Pro tip! Ask for the list of day old pies, reduced price but full flavor! What a wonderfully amazing little place this is. I love, love, love the picadillo empanadas, and the green chili and pork, the beef pot pies and chicken all so incredibly yummy. Such a great, casual place to meet up with friends and colleagues. Hands down absolutely the worst customer service I've ever experienced. Unprofessional and rude. The family and I came in and literally ordered slices of pie. Cashier came off very judgy and short. All other orders were served to everyone else who appeared to be "locals". We were polite and very cordial through our 30 minute wait. Yes 30 minute wait for slices of pie. We stayed in Arcata for a weekend of hiking in the Redwoods, and the weather was in the 60s so naturally a nice warm meal sounded ideal. I searched Yelp and bam, I saw this place. I love pot pie so much, but I'm vegetarian and they're hard to find. While in town for the weekend, I started looking up vegetarian friendly places to eat. Imagine my surprise when there's a place with a highly favored vegetarian pot pie on the menu!!! I got that and the sweet arugula salad, both were delicious. This is a cozy place with amazing tasting pies. I tried the pizza hand pie and I really enjoyed the flavor which mixed well with the ranch they make. The black bottom banana pie was really good, it had good chunks of banana and the layer of chocolate ganache brought a whole new level of flavor to a normal banana cream pie.
