My server, Braxton, greeted me with a warm smile and stayed attentive throughout the entire meal--he made me feel like a VIP. I ordered the petite filet, cooked medium-rare to absolute perfection. It arrived quickly, and each bite was tender, juicy, and full of flavor. The sweet potato casserole surprised me--in general, I avoid sugary sides, but this was so worth it. Briquettes offers a fantastic range of sides, and I went with the grilled broccoli. The char from the grill gave it an extra pop of flavor, a perfect complement to the steak. They even brought out complementary rolls that were delightfully soft and warm. I judge restaurants by their iced tea, and theirs was spot on--refreshing, ideal for a hot Alabama summer. I have eaten at Briquettes numerous times, and it never disappoints. They have a few locations in the Mobile area, and I have eaten at the location on Montlimar and the location at the Eastern Shore Mall. My go to is their ribeye, and it is usually seasoned and cooked just right. But I took my wife and daughter to the Spanish Fort location for lunch and to say I was disappointed would be an understatement. The ribeye, although cooked to temp tasted like the chef poured liquid smoke on it. It even smelled like smoke. I took one bite and that was it. The waiter came over several times and never asked why I wasn't eating it. When I asked for the check, he asked if I wanted a box to go and I told him no way. We arrived a little after 4 pm on a Tuesday and had their Two for Tuesday lunch special. We both had the Chopped Steak with Mac and Cheese and I had Mashed Potatoes and he had the loaded Baked Potato. The homemade Mac and Cheese is Cheesy and gooie and the homemade mashed potatoes are to die for. Both of our Servers were on their A Game ( change of shift). Our server Tammy was very good but we sat at table for what seemed like 10 minutes before a greeting and I feel even if you see the table but you're too busy to stop just put a finger up at us or something, eye contact or whatever but don't continue your business where we can see you leaving us to wonder who or where our server is. I met a friend for lunch at Briquette's in Spanish Fort. The fried green tomatoes were different and delicious. The crawfish cream sauce was superb. I love the salmon at Briquette's and this was my first visit at this location, and I was not disappointed. The sweet potato casserole was delicious. I also had a side green salad and it was very fresh. Being one that love having leftovers for dinner when I go out for lunch sometimes, there was plenty leftover for a carryout box. Fantastic meal and service. My husband and I went to dinner on a Friday night, the restaurant was full and we have a very short wait. The crab cakes were delicious, the relish on top made an amazing twist. We split a porterhouse and added a salad. We planned on going out afterwards so didn't want leftovers. More than enough food, with an appetizer and salad, even with splitting. The steak was cooked to perfection and seasoned well. The mixed vegetables had a great variety. First time checking out Briquettes! The location looks big but some of the building is not being used. We went around 5:30 and there was about an hour wait to be seated on a Friday night. We ended up walking around at the surrounding shops and received a text when the table was ready. When it was time to be seated I overheard a hostess informing a gentlemen's that the current wait time would be an hour and a half so I do recommend keeping this in mind when trying to eat here. Food is seasoned and cooked well. I had the patty melt and the fries were some of the most crispy on the outside and soft on the inside I've ever had! When we notified the front desk of removing us from their waitlist as we were going elsewhere for dinner, they repeated, "I don't know why. You're next on the list." The steak was ok, not the best cut and a little over cooked per the request. Still edible and not horrible. This steak is comparable to ANY upscale steakhouse! Let's start with the salads. It's like a specialty salad...not some simple side salad. So fresh. And the dressings...I wanted to drink it out of the cup instead of putting it on my salad. That's how good it was. Balsamic vinegar is the right blend of tangy and sweet. The chicken and the strawberries make this salad something I will come back for over and over. The steaks... Cooked just how I want it and the sauce...I don't know what they do to it but it is DELICIOUS! The service was wonderful. They made no mistakes with my order, it was fast, and he was as friendly as he could be! The ambiance - I was surprised at how well they had set it up in such a short time to get it ready for Christmas. They did a great job with social distancing. This would be my fourth time coming to briquettes twice for lunch and two times for dinner. I would recommend this place to everybody. Their food is fantastic I don't care what you order their ribs are off the chain so are there onion rings. I have been to this restaurant many times and have great things to say about it however today was not the case, we were asked to sit in the back of the room where there was not many people and after this I got a steak that was very low quality and would not qualify for an 18 once's t-none. I hope next time I have a better experience but today was not by far. My review was based on today's performance since they were very unfriendly. So much for second chances. I do not recommend this place and I will not be going back. Our waitress made no personality and seemed like it was our fault she had to be there. My wife got a bottled beer and it tasted like it went flat long time ago. My old fashion was so bitter that it was impossible to finish. The best part of our dinner was the rolls and the honey butter which our waitress seemed offended when we asked for more. We had no appetizers and she only bought two to begin with. My sweet potato casserole had some much brown sugar and so sweet it made my stomach cramp. Briquettes always does a nice job. In my opinion one of the best restaurants in the Spanish Fort/Daphne area.

This score would normally be higher but todays experience showed major flaws. Our past experiences have solidly deserved a 4 or higher. Tonight, if I could go negative, I would. Management has a HUGE uphill battle. We got there. I believe I counted 3 hosts. Not even big chains that seat 200 people have 3 hosts, but what do I know. They sat us quick...and then... I had to go back to the 3 hosts to get a drink menu. Guess this was too hard for 3 of them and 3 wages to figure out how to sit somebody properly. In the seating area there were, minimally, 4 servers working the area. A good 15 minutes went by before one of them said anything but still disappeared for a while longer before someone arrived. Yes, we were those people that sat so long we were ready to order food with the drink order. Not my fault...btw - at the time half the seating was empty. Drink order came out wrong. I know we had it right since we cleared with our son what he wanted 2x and he said it clearly for the server 2x. They still messed it up. They brought out rolls for the table. First basket had 4 small rolls for 5 people. See where this is going? As usual, they brought out side salads ahead of meals. I received a Caesar salad that was so dark I questioned the lettuce. The lettuce was fine - it had about half a pint of Caesar dressing on it. It was borderline inedible. They run the mains with available servers. Another issue here - if you see the whole table hasn't been served, don't just walk away. 1.5 out of 5 meals didn't show up. Zero accountability. After about 10-15 minutes went by (with nobody ever checking on us) and I saw about a half dozen other tables served, I asked questions. Another side Caesar came out after another 5 minutes or so (which was the complement to a lone steak) and had NO dressing. This was also not delivered by our server. Eventually, they finally came to me and said they made a mistake and were just starting my steak. I canceled the order. The entire family was done with food and waiting another 15-20 for something rushed wasn't going to happen. The management blamed themselves for not watching the "new" server, who did disappear for insanely long amounts of time from the area. Sadly, this was an excuse. The whole service was one of the worst I've EVER had. Lackluster hosts, lack of server, messed up everything from drinks, to sides to the mains, and even servers that drop off food not doing their job and making sure all was there before leaving the table. Even the kitchen couldn't put out a consistent product. The whole staff failed tonight. This is restaurant basics 101. Usually, we love this place. Tonight, saying they were B team would be far too generous. We will likely give it another try based on past experiences, but another round of this and it's no more and the stars on this review will reflect that. Having worked in the industry throughout my teens and 20's and continued to do light catering since, I am not a fan of comps. I offered to pay for everything I got but not for what I didn't. I was unexpectedly comp'd by management. I love small businesses. I want to support them. I don't want them to feel obligated to give out handouts - and I was very clear with them about this. READ ON to get to the BAD PART... My wife and I have gone to this place several times and had a decent to great meal... The first warning sign was a while back we came in and wanted to sit where we normally sit in the bar area... The hostess flat refused to let us sit there so we left... Figured it was a one off night so we came back again and no issue worth mentioning. LAST NIGHT (NOV 26,2022) we went with our son and a family friend who had never been here before. Son ordered salmon, Wife ordered a Ribeye and friend ordered a T-Bone, and I ordered a Patty Melt. Our friends steak he ordered medium came out nearly raw. No prob. the waitress who did a great job took it back. They brought back out the exact same steak he had cut into (IE put food from a table back into the kitchen and on the grill with other peoples food- maybe...) I say "Maybe" because though the outside looked a little more burned- the inside was still RAW- and you could tell because you could look at the cut piece. On top of it my burger was raw inside too!!! Though the manager did the right thing and took the steak off because none of it got eaten (R gave it back immediately and said we tried twice - forget it). He also took off half the price of my burger which was fair as I ate half of it. The meal was still over $110 and we tipped the waitress well as she did her best BUT- this is not the kind of place you should EVER have this kind of issue TWICE! read more

We're in town for dinner with friends, so it's our first time at this restaurant. I ordered a ribeye medium and my husband ordered the filet. They have a huge sign outlining if you order your steak like this, it's gonna come out like that. The sign says medium will be served warm pink center. This is what I want. My husband ordered his steak medium rare. My steak is brought out medium rare by the staff, not our server. I sat for 5 minutes before our server comes back to the dining room so I can get her attention. I show her my steak and tell her this is too rare, I ordered it medium. She agrees it's too rare and takes it back. It's another 10 before my steak comes back out and it's burnt outside and well done inside. I said to her "I guess the cook missed the medium part". She said I told him medium. She said I can get you a new one. By this time our entire party has finished their dinner. So I told her no. I was able to find one corner of the steak that wasn't totally blackened and ate it and my baked potato. She came back and asked if I needed anything. I told her no, I'm done. My plate is still full. She offered a box to go. I said no thank you I'm not going to eat it. It's overcooked. She said "you can take it to your dog". Lol! I said thanks, but she wouldn't even eat it. She apologized and I told her she didn't cook it. I don't like to complain or send food back because I'm afraid someone is going to "mess" with my food. But I really should have returned this meal and not paid for it. I'm kicking myself now because it's a $27 steak. We came in here about 7:00 PM on a Wednesday. There was almost no one else in there. We were sat in a booth in front of the bar. Our waitress was also the bartender. She seemed to be a hurry every time she came by. Had to ask her about the $6 appetizer special I saw online. We ordered and got our food. I had the Patty Melt and onions rings. Both were delicious. But the whole time we're eating we had to watch her deep clean the bar. Spray and wipe. Lift, spray, and wipe. I'd rather not watch cleaning that should be done after hours while I eat.
