On our way from Orange Beach to Mobile, we stumbled upon this incredible spot in Spanish Fort! And what a find it was! From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere felt warm and welcoming, and the service was absolutely top-notch. The waitstaff went above and beyond to make us feel right at home, and the owner personally came by our table to check on us (something you don't see often anymore!) The real star, though, was the food. Everything we ordered was bursting with flavor, beautifully presented, and to our surprise, completely gluten-free. As someone who has to be careful with food choices, it was such a relief and delight to enjoy a meal that didn't feel like a compromise at all. I had blackened shrimp and pasta, again the sauce was to die for. The shrimp were nice and big but I wasn't a fan but that's my fault, l'm not a big seafood lover but I have had shrimp where they didn't have that sea taste before but these did so I didn't fancy them. I will never go back to this place. I'll start this with they were not busy!!!! After 15 minutes, the hostess came out to sit someone and asked if we had gotten any drinks which we didn't. An excellent new restaurant on the Causeway in Spanish Fort. We stopped in for lunch and we were greeted by a very friendly hostess. They have a very large indoor dining area and a nice outdoor seating area. Indoor is more comfortable seating, outdoor is picnic tables. The menu is simple but plenty of options to choose from. We opted for the crab claws for an appetizer. Market price of $29.00, but you get a lot more than expected. My wife had the Shuck Yea Salad. Great salad with six oysters, bacon crumbles, blue cheese crumbles, with a vinaigrette dressing. She loved it. I had the Sunday Sliders. One with blue cheese, one with onion jam, one with avocado. Our waiter, Dewayne, was amazing. However, the food was just not great. I got the crawfish pasta (spicy) and not only was it not spicy but it was so bland! The "bread" offered with it was just a hamburger bun that had been cut in half and toasted. My husband got a CHEESEburger. When it came out, he was brought a bun and a meat patty. That's it! :\ We had to send it back to get the cheese on it. There were no condiments even offered. The burger was bland, it had not been seasoned, just grilled. Again, no condiments on it, on our table or offered to him. This place has huge potential but I'm afraid it will go the way of the previous establishment sooner than later. We decided to eat at Pier house even though we heard that it was under new ownership since our last visit. We were worried that the assortment of gluten free options may have gone away. However, were we're very pleasantly surprised to find that the new ownership, a Jamaican woman is also gluten free and fully intends to expand GF options to include GF onion rings on the appetizer list. She is currently deciding which menu items will be replaced with more requested items. The new owner is a friendly, warm person with a feel for greeting and making diners feel welcome. We were greatly relieved that she has great Jamaican recipes that will add to the otherwise seafood specialties. My wife has been GF for several years and has been unable to enjoy most fried foods including seafood due to wheat flour. However, we were able to enjoy a wonderful GF fried seafood platter and only the hush puppies were not GF. We also had the delicious crab bisque that is also GF. I am fortunate to NOT be allergic to anything so I was treated to a delicious chocolate truffle that is absolutely the best. This delicacy will soon be available GF. If you are looking for a coastal restaurant with GF options in the Mobile or Daphne causeway area, you should try the Elite Pierhouse restaurant. You won't be dissatisfied. For someone who is gluten free, and lives in the south where there isn't many gluten free options besides salad and grilled entrees, this was the first time I had fried shrimp in years and it was amazing! The whole menu is gluten free and everything is homemade down to their spices. Their menu has multiple allergy free options including soy and dairy. The quality of the food is super fresh and you can tell that it is great quality. Pictures is fried shrimp, and the caramel cake, which is also gluten free and was one of the best cakes I've had. The owner said it is her grandma's recipe that she made gluten free. The Pier House definitely has made some loyal customers, we will be back! Our Second Time coming. We came back because we enjoyed our first visit here, but the second time was just amazing. Our meals were seasoned perfectly. My wife and I try to find locally, family owned restaurants when we travel to try out. I played on Yelp for a good 30-45 minutes to find the Pier House. The reviews sounded delicious and a e were not disappointed. With me, your business either gets a 1 or 5 star rating. I don't rate mediocre. My wife is originally from Venezuela and has tried hush puppies at a couple places. They were good enough for her to want to order them periodically. When she ate a couple at Pier House she leaned over and shyly asked if we could get another order to eat at our hotel tonight. They really are that good. She had the seafood pasta, which had a really good portion of various seafoods and the sauce was very creamy. I had the blackened shrimp platter with sweet potatoes fries. The bourbon sauce was well paired with both. Plus, I obviously had to have at least a half dozen raw oysters. I mean....come on! It's the south by the water! They tasted very fresh and were delicious. All the staff, especially our server (we ate at the bar because it felt the coldest there), were very friendly, and one of the owners stopped by to talk with us. My husband and I have been back to Pier House several times since my first review and we still LOVE it! Several positive changes have been made since they first opened and my favorite one is the shrimp platter now has a DOZEN fried butterfly shrimp instead of 8 and the fries are "twisty" and so delicious. Wonderful restaurant. It has the vibe of those places on stilts at the beach...but actually with terrific food. The hostess and the waitress were very nice. The singer was pretty good and he was a nice guy too. Our food was fantastic. My wife got spicy shrimp and grits and it was fersure spicy. I got blackened fish and it was cooked perfectly. The fried okra had light breading with just the right spices. Then men's bathroom is really nice too because it's two completely separate one-person bathrooms off a little hallway. Lots of privacy and very clean. We happened to be in the area, but if we ever come back here we'll go to Pier House again. read more

Apparently, the new owners are either cutting costs and/or simply don't know how to prepare gluten-free meals. To start, Happy Hour is 1600-1900, seven days of the week. The environment was relaxed, clean and well kept, much more so than the previous owners. And, the view of the bay was a terrific bonus. Our waitress was friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful when choosing from the menu. She served my husband's beer in a chilled glass - always a plus! For appetizer, we enjoyed the stuffed mushrooms, which was served with a basket of bread. The Cesar Salad was crisp and in a chilled bowl. Our Gulf Shrimp Platter was served with a delicious bourbon dipping sauce. Nothing was completely over-the-moon outstanding or best I've ever had, but everything was flavorful, prepared well, and worth the value. Ample parking is available and a handicap ramp is an option if one prefers not to use the stairs. read more

Our first visit to Pier House restaurant I had been really looking forward to trying this one out and waited till the dust settled. First observation they need an elevator for those like me who have trouble with stairs and walking. Not comfortable having to be on the lookout for gators and snakes. We got there shortly before 5pm and were told all the window seating were already reserved then got seated at one that's the only table they don't reserve (w/a broken fan above), which is the end booth and in the corner. 15mins later other guest who was seated at a table next to us was waiting on her other party... shortly after the other person arrived and obviously not thrilled with where they were going to sit. After she complained to their waitress they were then moved to the window booth behind us... so much for the booths being "reserved!". On my side the booth seat was already worn out (and large sunk-in spot!), and my husband could barely fit in the other side (and he's not fat). Fan above was broken (already mentioned) so it was warm where we were at. The Crab bisque soup was good. Mushroom w/toasted bread was also good. Raw oysters were on the warm side instead of cold or on a bed of ice/the Parma oysters could've had more garlic and shucked better we would've enjoyed more without having to remove shell bits or crack our teeth chewing. Also, we had to ask for: appetizer plates, horseradish and cocktail sauce... she did bring crackers without us having to ask. We both ordered the Steak Coulette per our waitress recommendation. It was juicy which she said it would be, but also chewy was a bit mind boggling. Both of our shrimps were good (his fried & mine grilled); and the mashed potato w/asparagus was tasty! After all of what we ordered we were too full for dessert but ordered their caramel cake to go. So disappointed on the size of slice for the price ($10). We asked if they offer military discount, so our waitress went to check came back and said they do, but only for the one who "served", (and not the spouse), to which I have an issue with, because spouses/families also served by holding down the home front, supporting our military spouses during: peace time, war time, field training, several duty moves, longer than normal work hours, being on the call 24/7, and often time being both parents! Thank goodness there are more businesses who recognize and support military families and not just half of our military serving, retired or disabled! Update 5/17/2025: Your response (accepting no responsibility... only excuses), and after trying the cake today, has ensured we won't return. The cake was very chalky and tasteless, we also weren't provided any of the fruit / whip cream it is supposed to come with. This place was incredible. The gumbo was delicious. That seafood was very fresh. The owner came around to check on our table and she was so nice and personable that we felt like family. We loved speaking with the owner and it was very much focused on making an experience.
