We made the pilgrimage out to Brisket and Friends for lunch like the worshippers of BBQ that we are and man, was it worth it! The lunch deal was the pork ribs with two sides, which we got with the coleslaw and potato salad. The menu also had brisket, chicken and chili. We got the brisket and requested only moist. Bread, onions, pickles, relish, pickled onions and BBQ sauce are available as fixin's. There's also coffee for after.
So here's the skinny (or, the fatty deliciousness in this case). The brisket was excellent and would warrant a return visit whether we were in Texas or elsewhere. It was moist, flavorful and juicy enough to carry a brisket sandwich with just a slice of bread, brisket and onions. The ribs were underwhelming though. As any lover of BBQ knows, you should be able to eat all your meat without the aid of any cutlery and unfortunately, these ribs needed to be cut apart using a knife. The flavors were also under developed and the meat wasn't juicy. It was slightly dry. I would conjecture that they needed more cooking/smoking time, but that's the opinion of someone who has eaten a LOT of texas BBQ, not a pit master! My lunch companions who are less picky said they enjoyed their ribs.
Word to the wise: 1) get there early. They were out of ribs and brisket by noon and 2) for the love of all that's holy BBQ, ask for moist brisket. Lean brisket is an abomination. read more
