I have somewhat fond memories of watching the World Cup at the other Britannia Arms location on De Anza Boulevard. Sadly, that location is now closed. I decided, for the World Cup final, to haul ass to Almaden and watch it here. I arrived roughly an hour or so before the match was scheduled to begin and seated myself at the bar. The staff were nice and attentive, and prices are just okay for standard pub fare in my opinion. I kept it simple by deciding to get just a club soda and a simple grilled cheese sandwich. The total for both (without tip) was $19.70. Not the cheapest, but I've seen more expensive pub fare elsewhere. The club soda was as good as any, but the grilled cheese sandwich was a bit disappointing. It was small and lukewarm, and the accompanying fries were bland as well. For now, I give them a solid three stars. If I come back and the food is better next time around, I'll post a new and higher-ranked review. 3 stars read more

Parking can be a nightmare during the right times. Be prepared. This is one of my go-to spot when I visit Capitola. The view of the beach from even sitting inside is gorgeous! I really enjoy their Fish and Chips. The fish was thicc and fried perfectly. Ask for plenty of lemons! And it was paired with thick steak cut fries. Love that. They offer craft beer from my favorite breweries. Which is a great bonus! The staff memebers are friendly and attentive. It has been a smooth experience every visit! read more

What the reviews don't say about this place is that for those of us who grew up in the area this is our Cheers... if you're familiar with the show. To date myself, lol, remember it opening in the late 80s and it was the spot. In some ways it still is the spot what's the right expectations. It has a British pup feel, a decent selection of beer, and every time I've gone in I've been satisfied with my food. This time ordered happy hour cheese sticks, zucchini, sticks, wings, and meat pie (not pictured). Zucchini sticks stood out! There was crispy on the outside and moist and juicy on the inside. Came here for Tuesday night trivia. The plaza this Brit location is in is pretty terrible, not a ton of parking and now that Scramblz is closed, that whole section is closed off so makes it hard to find a spot. The food here is nothing special, it's fine, typical bar food but nothing to rave about. The drinks are good but honestly if I wasn't here for trivia I don't think I'd come specially to this location, I'd go to the one downtown. read more

I came out for a Saturday of live music and was super pleased to find a late night happy hour AND some of the best bartenders and staff I've encountered in the longest. Staff was super responsive when I mentioned a concern about a patron, but they were all so playful with one another, it was fun to watch. I couldn't decide what I wanted to drink, and the bartender offered a great idea: he'd bring mystery shots to the table, and only charge for one. The shooter? DELICIOUS! It was a white tea shooter, and the first time I'd ever tried it. The food, was...BAR FOOD. Not super tasty (which is wild, because I have had some very yummy fish and chips here). But honestly, at the happy hour price, who can complain? I definitely enjoy a night here again. Service was amazing--our waitress was incredibly friendly and accommodating. However, the fish and chips ($22) were highly disappointing. The cod and fries had a weird taste, likely from old frying oil, and it was a struggle to finish. I'm used to Cook's Seafood in Menlo Park, which is half the cost and tastes way better. It's been decades since I regularly hung out at The Brit, and it has clearly changed. The menu has become more Americanized. The beer list is dominated by American craft brews with only a couple of British beers - and not one British beer on the Happy Hour list. The place has always been as much a sports bar as a pub, but it seems now they're got a lot of activities to bring people in: a trivia night, a karaoke night, Taco Tuesdays, etc. On my recent visit, the waitress was great. Friendly and helpful. I ordered a patty melt, which was perfection. It's one of those things that a place either gets right or doesn't, and The Brit came through. Sadly, the accompanying steak fries were kind of mushy. My friend ordered a Cornish pasty. He said that both it and the vegetables that came with it were tasteless. At the end of the night, my friend asked if I'd go back. I thought about it for a bit and said "maybe." I'd like to give their fish & chips a try. But overall, the place was just OK. The atmosphere was pleasant, the prices were good, but the food was a little disappointing. read more

Britannia Arms is one of the few British pubs left in the area. The atmosphere is dark and the sports-watching crowd gets a bit loud, at least on the day we went. So, not a place for a quiet meal! I ordered the Cornish Pasty with veggies and shoestring fries. My husband ordered the Fish, Prawns, & chips (also shoestring fries), and he enjoyed his meal. We shared a dinner salad; it was pretty good and huge. I was served a chicken pot pie by mistake, but they brought me the pasty afterwards. It turns out I liked the chicken pot pie a bit better. The pasty had mostly beef inside, and I would have preferred more of a mix with veggies. Unfortunately, the crust on both was soft without a hint of flakiness. So, the food was a bit of a mixed bag, but the service was good. I might go back to try something else. read more

Second time in a row with virtually no service. Tonight, a slow Monday night at 7:00, my wife and I seated ourselves and waited. And waited. And waited. As we waited we watched two staff members visit the few tables in use in the main dining area a number of times, then leave, then come back, but never once even looked our way. After ten minutes a woman came to our table and asked if we had been helped. We stood and said no, we've been completely ignored for 10 minutes and we're leaving now. The fried pickles were pretty incredible and we had the steak sandwich and a few burgers that everybody was a fan of. I wanted to watch a World Cup match so I jumped in... sadly the same crappy service experience. Does the service at this place ever improve? , There were no servers when I walked in. I sat down for about 5 to 7 minutes before finally flagging one down. Patty melt was decent. I then ordered sticky toffee pudding to go. After 20 minutes. They come up and said that DoorDash orders had come in so mine had been delayed. and then after another 20 to 25 minutes, it still wasn't ready and they had no more excuses so I canceled my order and left. Walking in we loved the vibe. Very old school and vintage. The crowd was mixed from gen z to baby boomers. And everyone was getting along. It was a Thursday and I guess they do karaoke that night. So it was fun seeing a bunch of drunks sing their heart out. Even found ourselves a San Jose Bruno Mars. The drinks were poured proportionately. Not too heavy but not too light. We also ordered the wings and fries, and they were surprisingly good. They got a 4 out of 5 due to the crowd and some overly drunk girls. We will definitely be back though. The British are here. I'm at Britannia Arms Almaden in Silicon Valley today. It looks like a traditional and classic Pub in here. There's some of my favorite like Fish & Chips, Corned Beef and Cabbage, and Shepherd's Pie. Today, I'm having something different, Cornish Pasties with Steak Fries and Veggies. Cornish Pasty reminds me of Calzone, Empanada, or Pâté chaud. It was delectable, freshly Baked, and warm. I really liked how I didn't need to ask for some gravy, they just gave me what I needed. And this is The Tropics, that's my Drank for tonight. I was thinking this was going to be a 3.8-4.2 stars, this can be very well a 4.4 stars on a good day, but I give this 4.3 stars. read more

They have some drinks that are more on the fruity side. They also have some that are more on the floral side. You just gotta be specific on what you like and want. Food did not disappoint and to be honest, I didn't know bar / pub food could taste so good, like full restaurant quality. Hot plate, fresh ingredients and oh so tasty! I will tell you this right now that their fish and chips is award-winning because of their secret ingredient which I won't expose, but it is hands-down, the best! School of Rock next door and they come sing. The host on Thursday's is one of if not the best in the Bay area. Sunday night guy is just as good. We had a wonderful experience today for our first time at "The Brit". We have a new puppy that has not been socialized yet, so taking her to a dog friendly restaurant was a bit of an experiment. Unfortunately, our girl Lucy was barking at the other dogs, so we quickly decided we would order our food to go. The kind gentleman serving us (possibly the owner? He had a British accent) encouraged us to stay, making us feel completely welcome. I expressed concern about disturbing the other tables, so he took a quick poll and nobody seemed to mind (hopefully). The server/owner came around with a bag of dog treats for each table and Lucy mostly calmed down. Our food came out fast and was tasty. I had the reuben with fries and my husband had fish & chips. I especially liked the thick cut French fries. We will work more with Lucy before we take her anywhere again, but just knowing we have such a wonderful neighborhood pub nearby makes me really happy. I had an office in Milton Keynes, another in Bournemoth, I had a distributor I viesited in Bath. I can say I was quite familiar with British pub food. The BA food is to British Pub food as the Olive Garden is to Italian food. There is some resemblence, but it's a bad example. The bar is great, except they were out of British beers. They knew what a half&half was, but it was flat. Shepherd's pie is made with Lamb. Cottage pieis made with beef and is more than just hamburger and potatoes. I have to admit, followig a great British tradition, the food was bland and the steak tough. I can understand the high prices, but their dinnerware was from a time when they would fill the plates. Now there was too much plate showing. The grilled onions were the highlight of the bangers and mash. The potatoes and the vegetables were cold. The bangers were small. My biggest disappointment was the fried artichoke hearts which came not only from a can, but we got a few ( 8 or 9) on a big plate that felt empty for $18. I could go on with more negative observations, but why? This is enough to say that I won't go again... well maybe to the bar--- they have live music and I could order from their American food entrees... except the steak.
