We searched for "steak", downtown on Yelp, for our Christmas get together and this popped up and had the highest ratings. When I walked in, it wasn't exactly what I had imagined, smelling and looking more like a bar than a restaurant but I gave it a chance. Our table ordered the truffles fries, which didnt have any truffle in it, but was still good. How can you go wrong with fries right? It came with this unique mayo sauce that was good. We also got the mac and cheese and it had a nice toasted bread crumb on top. The entire bar smelled like buffalo wings, so we had to get that and it was also pretty good, but its bar food so not much effort there. We ended up ordering the rib-eye, which was $65, a bit pricey. It came with a pesto mashed potato, which was a nice addition, with a side of mixed green beans. The steak itself was just okay though, I'd give it a 5/10. Service was great. Our waitress remembered all our orders without writing it down and the bartenders were nice and friendly. read more

This might be the best food I have had since I moved to the area this summer. My husband and I moved here from Portland and have found the culinary transition difficult. This weekend, we decided we wanted steak and looked for options on Yelp. This one fit our criteria, and off we went. We arrived around 6 on Friday and promptly learned what the locals must already know - don't look for street parking! We finally parked in a convenient garage and headed over the the gastropub. The area is vibrant and there was a lot to see. The hostess told us it would be about 15 minutes and took my husband's number. We walked around until we were called back and took a seat outside. The waitstaff proactively gave us a third stool for my bag and purse (much appreciated!) and took our drink orders. I had the Beekeeper and he had the Pineapple Express. Both were excellent - balanced and complex, the way a good cocktail is meant to be. I advised her that I needed to avoid gluten and she both confirmed the wings were unbreaded and that cross-contamination in the oil was not an issue for me. The attention to details was greatly appreciated. We got the buffalo wings and they were amazing! They were complex, not just hot, with both a rub and a sauce. Then, along came dinner. He got a pork loin and I got a ribeye. Both were excellent. The ribeye was tender, flavorful, and cooked right. The veggies - green beans with bell peppers - were a great side and they kindly swapped out the pesto mashed potatoes with garlic mash, given that I don't like pesto. The price was high - that ribeye cost twice what the pork loin did. But, I haven't enjoyed a meal this much in months. Being outside, enjoying perfect weather, eating wonderful food with great service - it was worth it. So, highly recommended. Also, good place for Ingress. read more

5 stars for Rog alone. Best bartender and server--he made me a wonderful Bloody Mary that was so good and so strong (I asked my friend to ask for less vodka but she did not because she didn't want to make our group order even more confusing.) After that, Rog took care of me giving me pineapple juice and when I left for the night, he gave me one for the road! He's so fun, funny, and thoughtful. The inside of Firehouse No. 1 is cozy but it is big--it has more space than it looks like! Love the sliders, cheesecake, and the delicious elote/corn. Lively interior with a great atmosphere. The service is friendly and makes you feel welcome without being overbearing. The food here is really good. I went with a group of 7 ladies for drinks and food and everything was delicious. We ordered the cheesesteak, cheeseburger, the ribeye, rosemary garlic chicken, and mac n cheese, mushroom pasta and then a shrimp pasta dish. We made it kind of family style to try everything, and each dish was amazing. I was raving about it to my bf and daughter and I told them they had to try it. Needless to say, I'll be back. We had a 4:45 PM reservation and arrived about 45 minutes late. The host told us we had to wait until our entire group arrived, which we understood. Once everyone was there, the grumpy old BALD GUY rudely told us to move and wait on the bench outside. The frustrating part was that there were clearly empty tables and no one else waiting, yet we were still not seated. Meanwhile, other guests who walked in without reservations were greeted warmly and seated right away. The host's attitude was rude and unwelcoming from the start. Because of the way we were treated, we decided to leave and take our business elsewhere. Very disappointing experience. No wonder you have a broken arm buddy! However, we were very glad we left that place and dined at SP2 Communal Bar where respected and greeted us with a warm welcome. The manager also gave us free shooters and their food was very good! The pork belly was delicious, crispy, and not too fatty like I've had at other places. My 6 month old was a big fan of the polenta. Whenever I come to San Pedro I was always intrigued by this spot but never walked in because usually I wasn't ever in the mood to have a sit down meal. However on a sleepy Saturday afternoon we decided to go in and give Firehouse No. 1 a try during their happy hour. From the outside it seems like a very small space but when you walk in there is a large back dining room past the bar. The food was very tasty, with some very interesting selections for a happy hour like the mussels and their take on chicken wings. I was also a very big fan of the beer selection with tons of variety with a lot of local breweries. I would love to come back for a full meal here, a ton of interesting stuff on the menu. read more

First impressions always start with the person at the host desk. The hostess was pretty rude and for no real reason. We were looking down the bar for a bar seat and didn't ask him to seat us but he felt the need to tell us " I'm not going to seat you at the bar, you can seat yourself." In a condescending tone while damn near bobbing his head and snapping his fingers, it was weird. However, my most recent trip in March was pretty disappointing. There has been a clear decline in the quality and the taste of the food. While trying to get inside the restaurant, a male staff member / host was about to let me entry when a woman staff member who was also a host came and intervened and said I was not allowed to go in. She immediately said "leave before I put my hands on you." I told her as a man I don't hit women and as a private guard I would rather deescalate the situation. I drive two hours and to get treated with disrespect and a threat was unprofessional. So I called the restaurant to find out why. No answer, straight to voicemail. I tried 7 times throughout day to try and get my reservation back. So now I'm left with scrambling to find another place for 7 people to eat in less than a week. I will not go back to this restaurant. Poor customer service. Answer your phone! I love this spot! Great place to grab some food, drinks, and enjoy a game. There's bar seating, indoor seats, and outdoor seats. There's a big variety behind the bar and the service is always super friendly. I highly recommend the Angry Prawn appetizer. It's listed as an app but definitely big enough to be it's own entree. read more

My girlfriends and I came here for dinner with a reservation for 8/9 last week to celebrate a friend's achievement with obtaining her bachelor's degree from SJSU. We were seated immediately for our reservation to the back of the pub. There are a few high bar tables up front by bar, long bar with high chairs and some small and couple of big tables in the back. Pretty small pub and quite intimate. Love that the lighting was not nearly as dim as most restaurants and bars so looking at the menu wasn't hard. Maddie came to introduce herself and provided us with menus right away. She was prompt and knew the menu to answer our questions as we were hungry. We ordered many dishes (mussles, steak, pasta, salad, truffle fries, calamari, etc) to share between the 6 girls, and we finished it! The food was decent, and some were better than others, but I think we really liked the calamari, and our request for cocktail sauce was made impromptu by the chef as they did not have any available at hand. Service was very attentive and helpful, we were told to use the QR code menu but still order through the waitstaff as they were transitioning systems. Off the happy hour menu we ordered the Mediterranean mussels (not pictured) and the bacon Mac n cheese. The mussels were nice and the samba sauce was spicy and garlicky, though the included bread didn't have cheese as pictured on the menu. The bacon Mac n cheese was my favorite dish of the night. Though the cheese sauce looked thin at first, it had an amazing savory flavor with lots of bacon and green onion. I don't usually get too excited about Mac n cheese, but this is one I'll be craving in the future. For entrees, we got to the New York Strip Steak and the Hook & Line Pan Seared Blackened Pacific Red Snapper. We ordered the steak medium but it came more medium well. It was still a nice steak with lots mushroom and black pepper flavor, though the potatoes were a little hard. The snapper was well cooked, though I was bummed they didn't have the pesto mash potatoes as listed in the menu. All in all, I felt the value was fair because the portions were pretty large, especially for DTSJ. All in all, a great spot for happy hour or dinner! read more

In town for a few days looking for a good steak had the ribeye cooked just the way ordered but the mashed potatoes were surprisingly good they had a pesto in them so you it had a hint of basil so good.. also the green beans we very complementary crunchy with garlic had half a simmer spring salad if your a salad lover you want to order this one spring mix with fresh strawberries and goat cheese topped off with balsamic dressing So many flavors in your mouth the vibe during the week is just chilling relaxed. ...okay i feel absolutely terrible that I have to knock down a star; for the record, the previous 5 star reviews I posted for the lunch menu when serviced by David still 100% stands - except that's not an option anymore so I suppose I should update my review :/ intentionally chose this place for dinner plans w some friends so I could have my default "Tuesday lunch" except hopefully for dinner - I did check the dinner menu on yelp beforehand & it was still listed.... I was looking forward to this meal for a whole frigging week! anyways... friends got there first & sat inside but when we arrived, they said that the patio wasn't open & dogs weren't allowed inside (understandable) not sure if friends communicated w the waitress beforehand but they went back in to let her know we'd still like the patio - she said there were no heating lamps outside & asked if we still wanted the patio - we said yes & she grumbled a little (understandable) but still unlocked the patio tables & chairs & set them up for us & wiped them down (yay) but did mention that next time, when she says the patio is closed then it's really closed (understandable - again I'm not sure how well my friends communicated w her before we had arrived with two dogs in tow) side note: the yelp menu pics are all old - menu is a bit different now, for both food and drinks (but I very predictably didn't remember to take pictures) ordered drinks, cobra kai was out of stock (?) so I got a beekeeper (good as normal but I liked David's version better) - also got a... something else that wasn't supposed to be spicy... but it came with tajin all up in the inside AND the rim which threw me off quite a bit lol the flathouse + arugula salad + fries is no longer an option on the dinner menu :( I specifically asked if I could order something that used to be on the menu (or just have a cut of meat w the same arugula salad & fries I used to get every week) and was told no (ugh the sadness!!) mussels were a lil spicy which was interesting - the insides were a lil teeny but it's okay I guess prime rib medium rare was ... okay? much too much fat for my liking lol; beans and bell peppers felt a teeeeeny bit undercooked; pesto mashed potatoes were the best part of the meal but it's just a side so I feel like that shouldnt be the best part no?? anyways it was kinda pretty at night, albeit cold - quite a few pedestrians walked past & had an immediate facial expression of "oh this place looks good" cus they glanced at our food then the name of the restaurant so um you're welcome guys...! side note: I've literally never seen the patio open, but I figured that was because we had previously always gone at lunch? perhaps it was closed that night since it was slightly sprinking that morning.... but if not & it's always closed, then I suppose the yelp facts would need to be updated to say no outdoor seating & no dogs allowed :( read more

Been here a few times and this is the first time I'm leaving a review. This place is a hidden gem. Came here on a Tuesday night for a friend's birthday. Did a reservation just in case but when we arrived, it was empty so I did not me room about the reservation. We got Sat down right away. As the night went by, this place picked up and was pretty busy! Small cozy little spot. Great for a date or just a night out with some friends. The customer experience is phenomenal. We were being checked on every so often to see how we were doing. They have happy hour 4-6 o believe. I have always loved their pork chop. It's always juicy and perfectly cooked so I ordered that again. The truffle fries is truffle fries. Can't go wrong with that. We also ordered the tiger prawns. It was good but I wouldn't order it again. It just didn't wow me or it's a have to have type dish. The birthday girl ordered the NY steak and that was cooked beautifully. Cooked the way she asked for(medium rare). It was tender and juicy!! Parking isn't an issue here because there is a parking structure across the street! read more

One day we were really craving some good steak and found this restaurant in our search. This place is in the same are as San Pedro Square is with plenty of parking at the parking garage. We went on a weekend night so it was busy but we did get seated right away. Staff was very attentive and we got our food fairly quick. We got some drinks and steaks with some side dishes. Everything was delicious. Our steaks were cooked to our liking. The old fashion was also very good. I will definitely go back here when I crave steak and good drinks again! read more

Ive walked by this place so many times and we finally decided to give it a try and I'm so glad we did!! I've been here pre-Covid for late night drinks but no food. So this was a new experience! We got a bunch of appetizers and shared between three people! Mac and cheese with bacon was delicious I like the spiral noodles because it seemed to grab more of the cheesey goodness. The pear and arugula salad was also delicious- that walnut crusted cheese was a surprising delight! Super light but flavorful dressing and not soggy at all. Tiger prawns were good but not my absolute fave. And the baked Brie wrapped in a super light crunchy pastry with apricot was a must! So good! I want to come back and try the mushroom pasta! Amazing experience tonight! We were welcomed by 3 team members upon entry. The crew here acts like a TEAM, we had 4 different team members including the bartender check on us multiple times during our dinner. The bartender talked with us and made us special drinks- even going to the kitchen to get fresh ginger to make a penicillin. The food was cooked perfectly and well seasoned. I had the steak frittes, and my boyfriend had the pork chop, which was so juicy!!
