    Pineapple Express
    Marianne St. G.

This might be the best food I have had since I moved to the area this summer. My husband and I moved here from Portland and have found the culinary transition difficult. This weekend, we decided we wanted steak and looked for options on Yelp. This one fit our criteria, and off we went. We arrived around 6 on Friday and promptly learned what the locals must already know - don't look for street parking! We finally parked in a convenient garage and headed over the the gastropub. The area is vibrant and there was a lot to see. The hostess told us it would be about 15 minutes and took my husband's number. We walked around until we were called back and took a seat outside. The waitstaff proactively gave us a third stool for my bag and purse (much appreciated!) and took our drink orders. I had the Beekeeper and he had the Pineapple Express. Both were excellent - balanced and complex, the way a good cocktail is meant to be. I advised her that I needed to avoid gluten and she both confirmed the wings were unbreaded and that cross-contamination in the oil was not an issue for me. The attention to details was greatly appreciated. We got the buffalo wings and they were amazing! They were complex, not just hot, with both a rub and a sauce. Then, along came dinner. He got a pork loin and I got a ribeye. Both were excellent. The ribeye was tender, flavorful, and cooked right. The veggies - green beans with bell peppers - were a great side and they kindly swapped out the pesto mashed potatoes with garlic mash, given that I don't like pesto. The price was high - that ribeye cost twice what the pork loin did. But, I haven't enjoyed a meal this much in months. Being outside, enjoying perfect weather, eating wonderful food with great service - it was worth it. So, highly recommended. Also, good place for Ingress.

    Steak and Frites

Nice restaurant in San Pedro area. We came on a Saturday night with reservations but it was quite slow that day. Our service was good and quick which was nice. We sat in the back and there's plenty of seating. We got the steak and frites, Mac and cheese, and buffalo wings. Everything was super delicious and big portions which was nice. The food was actually really good, especially the wings being nice and crispy just how I like it! I'd definitely be back and this is a nice gem! Love the location!

5 stars for Rog alone. Best bartender and server--he made me a wonderful Bloody Mary that was so good and so strong (I asked my friend to ask for less vodka but she did not because she didn't want to make our group order even more confusing.) After that, Rog took care of me giving me pineapple juice and when I left for the night, he gave me one for the road! He's so fun, funny, and thoughtful. The inside of Firehouse No. 1 is cozy but it is big--it has more space than it looks like! Love the sliders, cheesecake, and the delicious elote/corn. Drinks, service, food, and ambiance is wonderful.

Mushroom pasta, Philly cheesesteak, shrimp carbonara, ribeye
    Sistine M.

I went with a group of 7 ladies for drinks and food and everything was delicious. We ordered the cheesesteak, cheeseburger, the ribeye, rosemary garlic chicken, and mac n cheese, mushroom pasta and then a shrimp pasta dish. We made it kind of family style to try everything, and each dish was amazing. I was raving about it to my bf and daughter and I told them they had to try it. Needless to say, I'll be back. The service was great, and we were checked on a lot through our meal. It gets super loud inside, but it's a good place to get together with people.

    Grilled Prime Steak Salad
    Justin S.

We came to Firehouse for a bday and we loved our servers and the attention to our special event! I ordered the grilled prime steak salad. I thought the meat was good very well. I always ask for medium rare and the vegetables came out firm and flavorful! A good portion of food and the balsamic glaze was a nice touch. The restaurant itself is small and cozy and has an area in the back for seating. It can get loud but that's to be expected. Overall a solid 4.5/5, would definitely come back.

    Salmon Special
    Toni T.

The food was very good and the ambiance was nice. Had the calamari with fried jalapeños and the salmon special. Would definitely go back.

Whenever I come to San Pedro I was always intrigued by this spot but never walked in because usually I wasn't ever in the mood to have a sit down meal. However on a sleepy Saturday afternoon we decided to go in and give Firehouse No. 1 a try during their happy hour. From the outside it seems like a very small space but when you walk in there is a large back dining room past the bar. The food was very tasty, with some very interesting selections for a happy hour like the mussels and their take on chicken wings. I was also a very big fan of the beer selection with tons of variety with a lot of local breweries. I would love to come back for a full meal here, a ton of interesting stuff on the menu.

    Rude hostess
    Daniel C.

First impressions always start with the person at the host desk. The hostess was pretty rude and for no real reason. We were looking down the bar for a bar seat and didn't ask him to seat us but he felt the need to tell us " I'm not going to seat you at the bar, you can seat yourself." In a condescending tone while damn near bobbing his head and snapping his fingers, it was weird. The bartenders were pretty cool and the food was decent, just sucks that the whole experience was ruined by the diva at the front.

    Bone in pork chop

I loved: $23 Angry Tiger Prawn I really liked: $19 Baked Brie $21 Grilled Apple Arugula Salad I liked: $38 Bone In Pork Chop The #goodeats here are a bit pricey, but the quality of the Angry Tiger Prawns and Baked Brie justifies the cost. Service is attentive and professional, striking a good balance between attentiveness and allowing diners to enjoy their meals. Firehouse 1 has a spacious layout, including pleasant outdoor seating. They manage to feel bustling without being overcrowded.

    Ribeye
    Roya J.

Was planning to go somewhere else, but they were closed. Decided to stop here for small bites and cocktails and let's say David and the 2 other ladies made it an awesome night even with being short staffed. Owner is very lucky to have such dedicated staff.

    Do you guys accept cash?

Thank you for your inquiry. Yes we do accept cash.

    Can I bring my teenagers?

Firehouse No.1 is a RESTAURANT that serves alcohol, so all ages are WELCOME to dine. Must be 21 to drink.

Can we walk to SAP center from here?

Yes you can. About a 10-15min walk.

Is there a dine in option or just outdoor?

    Yes both

    Do you have parking?

There is a parking garage directly across the street from us. The 1st 90 min are free.

Is there a corkage fee if I want to bring my own wine?

Yes we do. $20 per 750ml.

I would like to know if it is reservations only?

    Not for lunch!

What time does the kitchen actually close? The answers to the other similar question are either conflicting or too vague. ETA: Not helpful, Van C. This isn't a comedy club.

Our kitchen closes nightly at 10:00pm

Want to bring my kids. This is not a 21 and old establishment, right?

Yes you can bring your kids

Do you serve Corn Beef and Cabbage daily or only for St. Patrick's Day?

We only serve Corned Beef & Cabbage on St. Patrick's day. We are also doing Sheppards Pie as well.

    What time is happy hour?

Our Happy hour is 3:30-5:30 Monday-Friday

My 21st birthday is coming up. Could I get a free drink or some deal?

Not sure on that! Worth a try at the bar inside after you order at least one ! Friendly staff!

Is the bar the only spot where we can see the TV?

The TV is visible from the dining area. Indeed, I sat my guests at a dining table where the screen was easily seen. When making a dining reservation, one might ask for such a table.

Is the kitchen open till 2am?

No. Apparently 9:45pm at least on Wednesdays. And they were rude about it, despite what Google, Yelp, AND their website says.

Hey? I call and after 4 rings disconnected.... what gives?

A year later and this is still an issue. So frustrating. I've had to change dinner plans a few times now because I couldn't get through.

A handsome building with three distinct areas to settle in, it's easy to find comfort here. The choice mix-tape music with ample offerings from the 80s and 90s especially, help set the mood. And though this is an English pub, the music is not confined to the U.K. The beer selection is great - and international, as well. The Guiness menu on the wall is helpful, but there's even more to explore. Tumer Pils, Stella, et al. And there is a good whiskey menu, too. Trials is also great for food. I recently enjoyed their Pub Burger, which is a hearty plate of 1/2 lb. burger, with bacon, cheese, and the usual veggie accompaniment. The 'chips' are good and plentiful, but I have now tried their beer-battered onion rings -- and those are wonderful. Perfectly crunchy, not greasy, and just salty enough. If you do opt for the salad with any of your dishes, it's deep green and crafted with care. The side salad here is no afterthought. The Shepard's Pie looks great, and apparently is (though my dining companion failed to offer me a bite). Previously, I had enjoyed the falafel plate because sometimes, you just want falafel. Also previously, I tasted the chicken curry dish (hearty and delicious). The Mac n Cheese bites got high marks at our table, though I did not partake. The sausage rolls - classic pub fare - were very good on my first trip here. The cold water is refreshing and welcome. And the Tumer Pils hit the spot. It's all good here. Special mention for Thomas, one of the gents here. Super-likable, with a sly sense of humor, Thomas is a major asset at Trials Pub. Parking is easy -- or just ride-share -- just in case.

The total for both (without tip) was $19.70. Not the cheapest, but I've seen more expensive pub fare elsewhere. The club soda was as good as any, but the grilled cheese sandwich was a bit disappointing. It was small and lukewarm, and the accompanying fries were bland as well. For now, I give them a solid three stars. If I come back and the food is better next time around, I'll post a new and higher-ranked review. 3 stars
