My experience here was amazing. I often make cosplays, and I was having trouble finding what I wanted at my local joanns. My mom recommended that I visit Britex, and now I'm never going to another fabric store for my costumes! FABRIC/QUALITY: There are 4 floors of all kinds of fabric, and I swear that they have everything imaginable. From buttons, to lace, it was beautiful. Literally fabric heaven. Felt myself tear up a bit from the beauty! On the 4th floor, they have small lengths of fabric on sale, which was neat! I was able to get a cotton/polyester mix in the exact color I wanted. Also got lining for it very easily. Wasn't able to find a proper fabric in the color I needed, but I will be returning soon and will give it another shot! Quality is super great, and prices are a little on the moderate side. Overall, the selection is amazing and jaw dropping. CUSTOMER SERVICE: Now I'm usually a little shy to ask for help, and I really appreciate when people approach me and ask if I need help. Well, I had no problem with that! I got asked if I needed assistance on EVERY FLOOR I visited! Very impressive. Everyone was extremely knowledgable. The people who helped me were extremely helpful. They have almost everything you need here. Many different fabrics to choose from. I was just in to browse around. There are 4 floors I believe. It's pretty neat because when you walk up the stairs, you can see the old foundation. 1800's bricks. They also have a bunch of accessories and jewels and ribbons. That was definitely my favorite floor. There was so many gadgets that I didn't even know existed but glad I discovered. People are geniuses in inventing for convenience. I learned a lot from just looking. The service varied on different floors. The fabric pricing is on the pricer side of course. But their range in variety is quite large. I used to shop here once or twice a year (ok, mostly up on the 4th floor remnants) back when I was doing pattern drafting and a lot of sewing. Fast forward 11 years (I have a 10 year old daughter, you do the math), my kid has fallen in love with Project Runway. Hooray! I dragged her up there today, and it was like dying and going to heaven. The selection is still amazing. The staff are still amazing at assisting you no matter what you're creating. There is a rainbow of colors. The quality is amazing. My daughter went bonkers on the 3rd floor Notions with the amazing selection of ribbons. You have to purchase the notions on the 3rd floor, and all fabric has to have a ticket, including the remnants, and you pay for that on the 1st floor. One friend who is into civil war re-enactment loves the remnants for finding colorful cloth to go on the inside of vests. If you're into fiber, or you're looking for special buttons for any project (knitting, crochet, sewing, etc), this place has it. If you're looking for an applique to dress up a simple outfit, this place has it. We'll be back on a day when it's not 30% off everything and the line went up the stairs and into the 2nd floor :-) The sale is going on tomorrow too. Get on their mailing list. And if there's a sale, go early, or bring a book and not a 10 year old. I found reasonable parking on 3rd before market. I turned left onto Stevensen right at the Four Seasons hotel. Having recently visited Britex I must say it was an experience not to be repeated!! The haughtiness of the sales person that attempted to help me by suggesting I change my mind on a specific lace for a wedding dress simply because they did not have what I was searching for was, to put it politely, off putting it not downright rude! The selection may be great and the quality may be there but just because they are surrounded by opulence shouldn't automatically make the staff think they are royalty !!! If I'm ever in a pinch and need a fabric/sewing notion right away, I head over to Britex in Union Square. They have everything and lots of it! The catch is that you might end up with a surly employee and chances are, you're going to spend a lot of money. I do believe, at times, there's a correlation between price and quality and Britex is the tops for excellent quality fabrics. And you'll be able to find just about everything here!! If you can plan for it, come here on Columbus Day or Presidents' Day. Almost everything is 30% off. Yep, even the remnants! Finding parking near here is a nightmare! Britex is normally expensive and going through the different floors of supplies is a little annoying, I just wish everything was on one level so I can grab what I need and get out. I usually have a difficult time finding what I need there and it's always packed with students. In fact I feel like it's sole purpose is for the student designers and I usually feel out of place coming here. I think if you're doing high end stuff then this is definitely the place to visit, otherwise you can find what you need for a lot less somewhere else. read more

wow. came here on a recommendation from some friends as I moved to the city a while ago and just started sewing again. beautiful and extensive fabric selection that you can't find most places. the employees were incredibly sweet, helpful and offered their opinions in the best way. my boyfriend even brought a coffee in (whoops) and Douglas warmed it up for him while we were shopping. Britex has always been a bit overpriced (sometimes up to 4x markup as other places for the exact same items) but add to it some rude, disengaged staff who do only the bare minimum to assist the customer and you have a recipe for disappointment. I used to go here and receive fantastic service by staff members who seemed engaged and excited about the process of making. This place used to be my go-to for amazing fabrics and trims and sewing tips but since they've downsized and moved, the quality and value of the customer experience have diminished. I was treated by one person in particular as a nuisance in the trims department, rather than as a valued customer. Once he was don't helping me, I literally stood at the beaded trims counter for many minutes waiting for someone to come see if I needed help but then had to go hunt a different, kinder, more engaged person down. I can find some of the identical trims and notions at Stone Mountain and Daughter in Berkeley for exactly half the price and so will opt to just shop there now. Britex is a mainstay in SF and while I wish them well, until they fix their staffing issue, I'll save some money and go where I am appreciated as a valued customer. read more

I've come in here twice now, mostly for small things like notions, threads, etc. There's four stories to the place and helpful staff that will direct you to which floor you need to take the elevator to for the items you're looking for. The place has high ceilings and is stuffed to the brim with fabrics and bits and pieces of pretty much anything you'd be looking for. I haven't been sewing much lately other than repairs and small alterations so I haven't had any need to go through their fabrics. I can't speak much for the quality or price in that area, although I have read the other reviews. I'll keep my judgement aside until I do have to go through the fabric area (which hopefully will be soon, as I have a few sewing projects in mind). Since I'm by no means a professional seamstress, doing it mostly for my own personal enjoyment as a hobby, the cost and quality of the fabrics will definitely be something I'll go over. On the flipside though, they have a *huge* range of products on the notions floor. I wouldn't be able to find anything on my own, so thankfully the staff I've asked questions of have been extremely helpful in guiding me to the items I've needed. The prices on the notions have also been really good. I'm only giving three stars since the place has been good the two times I've been in. I have no reason to complain about the staff or prices yet, but I don't think I have enough experience in the store to be a huge loyal fan (yet) and not enough negative to go lower than three. If there's any change with subsequent visits, I'll update accordingly. For now, it's a great fit for the items I need occasionally and its location is extremely convenient. read more

I have been a Britex customer since about 1966, sometimes in the store and sometimes from home in Los Angeles. A service called "Britex by Mail" was very helpful for years. A store employee had the job of handling swatching and mail order fabrics. Easy. Well, things have changed. Now, the prospective customer is forced to endure a lengthy procedure of filling out a form online, paying $25 for the privilege of doing so, having that form mailed (?) or e-mailed (?), then being nickel-and-dimed for other procedures. THEN, it seems that all this might be for just ONE piece of fabric. This procedure became so complicated and annoying that I gave up on it and called B and J in New York. Note to owner/manager: THIS IS NO WAY TO DO BUSINESS. If you annoy customers by nickel-and-diming, you can be sure they'll take a walk. Over the years, I have spent one heck of a lot of money at Britex. I doubt this will continue. read more

I have shopped at Britex for many years. The service is usually acceptable, but my recent visit was terrible. Unwelcoming, RUDE, and unhelpful. I wasn't even sure if I was going to be let into the store, for no apparent reason. I was wearing a mask. Once inside the assistance I received was very unprofessional. The associate was discouraging me from looking around and the little help she gave me was interrupted by her running to the phone. The phone wasn't ringing, apparently she had just left someone on hold. She never excused herself or returned to ask me if I needed anything. There were no other customers at the time. Another associate was present, but she seemed nervous. To begin with, pandemic shopping is unpleasant and somewhat unnecessary, top that with obnoxious service, and you will lose customers. read more

One star. That's honestly all I can give, and that's just for the high quality of the fabrics and the really nice people working on the 4th floor. I went in yesterday to look at some trims and ask a simple question about machines and methods elasticize lingerie, and I was brought to the person who could best help me, this crooked old witch on the third floor. While I explained my question, she just looked completely apathetic. It was as if she was just trying to get rid of me as quickly as possible. I've literally worked retail for 13 years and I know exactly how awful it is, and I try to be the most reasonable customer I can be. Especially when asking detailed questions. She just kept saying "no" and that she couldn't help me. Really? You work at the most famous fabric store in SF and... You don't know how to sew elastic onto a bralette... Okay. So I went to pull the bralette I was working on out of my bag to show her for reference because what I was asking was... Really simple. And she just wasn't getting what I was asking. But she gave a sarcastic laugh, put her hand up, and said, "no no, I can't help you" So I decided to go to Fabric Outlet in the Mission instead and this beautiful girl with pink hair figured out my problem with 2 simple questions :) But you know what? This isn't the first time I've been met with this kind of horrible customer service at Britex. I used to be a frequent customer when I was a student and now, as a small business owner. But most of the people there really do treat you like you're just a nuisance. (To be fair, there are definitely a few salespeople here and there who are really sweet but they're few and far between. Most of the people there are moody and just plain rude.) Also, their prices are HEINOUSLY expensive. I saw a really basic half inch knit elastic picot trim that I've seen literally everywhere else for .15/yard selling for $1 per yard??? What's up with that guys???? And your rotary cutters are going for like $25? Shit, I got the same exact thing, brand and all, at Joann for $5. The only good thing about going to Britex is being able to post your Facebook check-in and telling your friends that you went somewhere famous when you get back home from your vacation. Beautiful fabric, no doubt about it. The prices per yard are so high, like $45 a yard for a cotton dotted swiss. Sewing used to be a way to save money on clothes, but no more. Patterns are around $35. (I recommend finding used or just for sale patterns online. Much cheaper!) So Britex is a beautiful place to look, but unless you're prepared to pay a lot, a lot of money for fabric, you won't be walking out with much more than a nice visual experience. read more

A legit and interesting fabric store in SF proper, straddled by (ironically) some of the most luxurious high end brand's store fronts. I came in on a recommendation from my tailor, looking for a new YKK zipper to replace the beau's old tattered zipper on a sentimental hoodie. In a no nonsense manner the ladies working quickly helped me get one that was the perfect size. They literally had TONS in every color - and I think I walked out paying roughly $5. Not cheap but again...its sentimental! Britex has a bit of a funny thrift store smell (hence the knocking of a star) but I can see this place being a DIY-ers dream! read more

No greeting, smile, personality - utterly charmless and lacking in basic people skills...much less the ability to be helpful (or even pretend) finding buttons for a project. The worst place for any business, product or service to find themselves in is the space that Britex fills in my life. I own and operate a small garment manufacturing business in San Francisco. I specialize in high quality textiles. Common sense would say that a place like Britex would be an important part of my life. Our relationship is quite the opposite. I absolutely loath the thought of having to enter their building. I have never had a good experience with them as a whole. I have had decent interaction with one staff member (Douglas!). Giving them money/business makes me sad, but some instances arise where I have no other choice. Today was on of those days. How sad is this: "Ah Fuck, I guess we have to go to Britex" If my business ever gets to that point I will close my doors. I wont get into the details of todays experience** because it will make me seem like a whiney entitled yuppie, but it was the straw that broke the camels back. **Britex had this review removed because: "it lacks a substantive firsthand experience" So here is a substantive firsthand experience: -I start browsing wools on the first floor. -As I start to pull a bolt of fabric out of the wall a staff member from across the store starts yelling "Dont do that! Dont do that! Dont do that! Dont do that! -Another member of the staff approaches me. -He says "Sir, did she upset you?" -I say "Indeed she did, I am not a child, I dont like to be talked to like one". -I give him 30 seconds to offer an apology, he remains silent. -I tell him that I would like to pull down 25-30 bolts, choose a dozen for swatching, return in a few days and purchase dozens or yards of fabric. -He says "we dont swatch. You can join our online swatch program" I say "Im in your store right now, I want to choose fabrics by touch and feel". -He says nothing. -I decide to leave. (I know that was whiney and entitled, but it comes after a dozen trips to this store with equally bad service that I am tired of dealing with) I told myself in the car on the way home that I have no other choice, but I do, and I am glad that the terrible service and laughable policies of Britex have finally pushed me to reach a little farther for the products that I need to run my business. ps. I have shopped here before for notions with some success (though other fabric shops have beter pricing), but I recently got so utterly butt-raped here that I need to write it out. I'd been shopping for WEEKS (months, probably) for a simple. black Swiss dot fabric. I went to all the usual places- Fabric Outlet, Discount Fabrics, Fabrix, even went to Joann (*shudder*)- NOTHING. Fabric.com had something they called Swiss Dot, but the photo didn't show any kind of detail on the dot, so I decided I'd just have to suck it up and head to Britex. I ask the lady for Black Swiss Dot. She says they have none. She is wandering the aisles pulling all kinds of stuff that is not, in any way, shape or form, Swiss dot. I say I am going to go down to the silks to see if they have something like a Swiss dot in silk. As I am leaving, I see... A bolt of black Swiss dot right there with the black cotton eyelets. How she did not know it was there is beyond me. She never even went over there. I see the price... $50/yard. *CHOKE!* Are you kidding me?! They convince me this is imported from Switzerland (I must assume on the hands of the Von Trapps themselves) and The. Last. Bolt. Of. Black. Swiss. Dot. EVER! I believe them, since I have been all over Hell and gone and not seen any. I purchase the last two and a half yards to the tune of $150. When I get home, still nauseated from my purchase, I decide to purchase a few yards of Fabric.com's $4/yard Swiss dot, just to see what it was like... it showed up three days later and was... THE EXACT SAME STUFF. Literally, no difference. *Choke* read more

I absolutely positively have a wonderful experience in this store. Each and every time. The staff is crazy. The staff is a little biased. They also can become irritable. They are incredibly charming and entertaining. They sum up what is going to happen to/for you very quickly. And you know what? That's the way I am...so I like it. I like it a lot. It saves me time and hassle, and I find them all amusing and cerebral way. And they all have EXCELLENT IF NOT UNUSUAL AND UNIQUE TASTE. If you are a student, expect to be treated like an idiot. Why? Because most times, they way they interact with the staff IS RETARDED. "Hi, I want you to spend about an hour and a half cutting samples that I'm not going to pay for. I want you to staple it to a board that I will present as my own in my class. Yes, I want to monopolize your time, and I expect you to do it for free. I want you to give me a lot of things for free as well, and no, I do not expect I will ever drop a dime in this store. Oh, and even though you've worked with fabric for a good deal of your life and you are older than me, I am a student...and that makes me more important and more of an expert than you." Hmmm....what's wrong here? Something about doing someone's homework, doing it for free, and then giving hundreds of dollars away for free...while there are people that are actually spending money in a store that require help... hmmmm....oh, and they are snotty too? Did they also take into account that HUNDREDS of students try to do this? And if the store actually did this for each and every student, they would be giving away over 40hrs of free labor every other day, and about 5k worth of materials every other day??? Clearly, students have no idea just how "entitled" and "precious" they are. Here's another reason I like to go into the store: People are dumb. They expect the staff to read their minds...even they themselves have no idea what they are thinking. example: Um, I'm thinking of fabric. I'm not sure what kind or what I'll need it for, nor the quantity...but I think I want a warm color. Possibly for summer, or winter and can double for spring and sometimes fall. I'm not sure what I'll be using it for, but I want it to be a reasonable price. Do you carry any? -I want to walk around that store to just document some of the idiots that walk around there. Now, onto the selection and pricing. Yes, it can be pricey there. That's for sure. But it IS a four story place where you can find EVERYTHING. Yes. Practically everything. How much time, effort, and fuel will YOU spend to find everything you need? Are you going to find incredibly smart and experienced staff than can help you with "Oh, that lining is going to make the wedding dress too heavy, and we have something that is a better match for those colors." "No, that fabric doesn't drape the way you will want for your suit, and the pattern is not as flattering either, but this would be better for your needs and wants." When you go to a discount fabric store, will they know the difference between Persian blue and Cornflower blue? This store is beautifully laid out, and no, it is NEVER messy. And if you tell staff exactly what you want, it can be found in about a minute or less. That's right. That's why it costs more. IF YOU WANT TO COMPLAIN ABOUT IT, GO BACK TO YOUR RINKY DINK BARGAIN BIN BASEMENT STORE AND DO IT ALL BY YOURSELF. AND IF YOU CAN'T FIND THE PERFECT THING, GO CRY ABOUT IT SOME MORE. Britex needs some competition in the area. Their prices are out of control, and their staff is rude and arrogant. I have never had a positive experience in customer service at this store. And, the straw that broke the camel's back occurred when I was having my wedding dress designed & hand-made by my best friend, a couture designer. I went to Britex looking for the perfect lace for my dress. I left Britex offended as hell & with a vow never to patronize them again. Essentially what happened was the saleswoman refused to help me look at the fabrics I wanted to see, suggesting that I couldn't afford them anyway. Now, I don't care how outrageous your prices are. Treating a customer like dirt is no way to run a business, and making assumptions about their economic situation based on... what?... is discriminatory and completely out of line. For the record, I was prepared to spend an outrageous amount for my wedding dress. Because of Britex's horrible, snooty customer service philosophy, I took my money to Los Angeles instead. read more

This fabric store has its goods and bads. I love the wide selection of fabrics, trims and notions they have. If you are looking for unique or hard to find sewing items, they will probably have it here. What I do not like is the inconsistency of their employees as far as customer service goes, and their prices are a lot higher than any other fabric store I have been to. Fabrics / Notions: Their variety of fabrics, ribbons, trims, buttons and notions is amazing. I can literally spend hours just wondering each level of this store (but I don't because of the customer service here. More on that later.) They have so many different types of fabrics that it sometimes can be difficult to find what you are looking for. Their lace, trims and buttons seem to be more organized, making it easier if you are looking for something specific. I never have bought fabric here since I can find the specific colors and fabrics I like at my local store much easier (and for less money) or online but I do like going to Britex for those hard to find buttons and lace that I can't find elsewhere. Price: The prices of everything here is more expensive than any other fabric or craft stores I have gone to. For more basic fabrics and notions, I buy at other local store because they always have better prices. When buying hard to find items, the higher costs you pay at Britex might be worth it because I simply cannot find these unique items anywhere else. Atmosphere / Location: This store is located in the downtown area and is very easy to find. The atmosphere and the employees here tend to be a little on the snooty / pretentious side, but it is what you make of it. I do noticed that I get stared at a lot by their employees when I walk around touching the fabrics I'm interested in. I like to feel the texture and softness / stiffness of fabrics before I pick which ones I want to buy (I'm sure I'm not the only one who does this) so I'm not sure why some of the employees here look down upon this. Staff / Service: This is the real downside of Britex Fabrics. Some of their employees are really great and helpful, and some are just awful! There is always someone by the door to greet you, and for the most part the first floor employees have always been nice. The employees I have encountered on their Cotton's floor have are horrible. The least few times I went there, there were two younger ladies working this area and they were gossiping loudly, saying swear words and completely ignoring the customers who obviously wanted help. I approached one of them trying to find a specific color fabric for a dress I'm making and the girl just said "nope, we don't have that here." She didn't even make any sort of suggestion or alternative and simply walked away from me. Their employees on their Lace and Buttons floor are hit and miss. There was a younger woman there who really helped me find the perfect buttons. When I was trying to look for lace, the older women there completely ignored me, making it hard to browse through the items since everything is behind the counter. The top floor has always had great employees there. Every time I look for costume fabric, the ladies up there have always been so sweet and helpful and even go out of their way to learn more about the projects you are working at and make suggestions on what fabrics would work. If you know exactly what you are looking for, and it happened to be a more unique fabric or notion, then Britex is a good spot to go to. For more basic fabrics and items, I would go elsewhere since you can find much better prices at other fabric and craft stores. And don't let the pompousness, location and higher prices of this store fool you, customer service is a hit or miss so don't expect to be helped or assisted right away. read more

I asked a gal helping me in Notions on 4th floor if they could order an item they were sold out of and she looked like the idea never came up before. She responded after looking puzzled 'NO.' I asked her what normally happens when they sell the last item of an expensive notion like a coat frog? She just looked puzzled some more!! I finally told her I'll shop elsewheres and left. Maybe they have become victims of their own highly regarded reputation and no longer feel customer service is worth while. Well,..I disagree, It is worth while if you want to keep em coming back! I seriously cannot stand this place. I have given it chance after chance after chance and I am always disappointed. Their staff is unbearably rude and unhelpful. They follow me around. They seem bothered by my questions. I recently discovered that they charge .75 cents on a debit card transaction under $5. Well...they make you buy items on the floor in which they are displayed. Many times I need just a few small items on each floor and the stupid charge adds up for a girl on a budget. It's annoying. When I am buying things to create something it should be a pleasant and relaxed. I should feel comfortable and the staff you should be helpful and patient. So....yeah it just seems I always end up leaving feeling angry, annoyed, offended and less than satisfied. I don't feel like doing anything creative after an experience like that. This place is wasting my time and making me pay them for it. Not cool. I will say that today I finally asked the saleswoman on the top floor "How her day was going" I I tried to really to be extra extra nice, as a test, and she responded quite warmly. So, she's cool. I was shown to a three rings of swatches all knotted up that supposedly correspond with bolts on the highest part of the ceiling. I could not figure out the order and lightheartedly laughed, "It's so complicated!". The woman barked at me "NO! it is NOT complicated!! I did these MYSELF!" Wow. UH I didn't mean to insult your swatch rings. I gave up trying to using them and just stood on my toes to pick my colors. What a whackjob! Seriously I need to find another last minute store to spend $300 chunks of money to get 4 yards of fabric. One with people who don't act like I'm putting them out for the honor of being in their fffing overpriced store. The fabrics I needed were over $60 a yard and up and supporting your salary lady. This place discriminates against students in the worst way. While on the first floor I witnessed a sales associate (older, male) cutting some free samples for a customer. When I inquired if I could get some samples, he referred me to a sign that informed me that they do not cut samples. Well apparently, unless you're a bored rich housewife with way too much money and no clue that you're being ripped off. I don't even mind paying for 1/8 yard samples, except their prices are super-inflated and downright highway robbery. Anything with polyester in it should not cost $100/yard. I have found the same fabrics from Britex at other local fabric stores for 1/4 the cost. 1/4. As a fashion design student preparing to graduate and launch my own line here in San Francisco, I really feel discriminated against. Which is a funny feeling considering I'm a 30-something, very put together white girl. Britex really needs to give equal respect to all their customers. The rest of my experience was not great either. An older woman on the first floor gave me a very condescending attitude, being very sarcastic and snarky when I requested she not count some yardage on the roll that was damaged "yes honey, that's why I'm rolling it out like this". Britex is just everything! its overwhelming with literally high quality fabrics. The people in here can get a bit snobbish, but i get that, they dealing with lots of tourists or just window shoppers, and yes they are next to high end stores like chanel, ysl, and so forth. Vibe Well i walked in here looking for accessories, or in other words notion, in the sewing language. lol... so once i walked in with a smile, i got asked what i need help with. I got directed to the 3rd floor, yes it 4 story big. Layout Well when i walked in, i was overwhelmed with all the fabric shelves from top to bottom, literally just too much to choose from. its a good and bad thing, bad thing if you are indecisive, good thing is you get to choose. Lots of different pattern and materials. Price Yes, its an expensive store, you get what you pay for. Its worth it at the end to get something nice over some cheap stuff and ending up spending more money in the future. Service Asked what was more helpful, but in the end, not too helpful, i had to figure it myself since the answer i got was based on preference. Good on checking up on what i need or looking for. Overall I know where to get my supplies, as well fabrics too when i am in need of some to make my next project. I think this is one of the closest too mood fabric store in LA, but far from nyc Mood store. I still need to make a trip to mood in Nyc! I just love this store location and the vibe and the layout! Come here if you enjoy horrible customer service. Don't bother walking into this store just to look around. The staff will be giving you looks of disgust the entire time, as if you're doing something wrong. Eventually, a pissed off old lady will come over and rudely ask you what you want. I said I was looking for oxford cloth. She didn't seem to know what it was, so I pointed to my oxford cloth shirt and said "like this". "You believe that's oxford cloth?" She retorted. "I know it's oxford cloth", I replied. I had made the shirt myself out of genuine oxford cloth , did she think I was an idiot? She had no idea what it was, and just told me to look around where I was looking before. After searching through their COMPLETELY UNLABELED collection, I found what *LOOKED LIKE* some blue and some pink oxford cloth, priced at over $25/yard. I promptly got up and left. read more

I have spent several thousand dollars in this store, but one day I arrived at 9:55, thinking they opened at 9 am. The back door was open so I entered, not knowing they didn't open until 10. A sales person greeted me, but the manager told me in a curt tone that "they can't have people roaming all over the place" (!!) and made me sit in a chair like a child having a time out. Honestly I was furious. The money was all put away in the registers, and the salespeople were ready to start the day. It was so unnecessary. The rest of the staff is outstanding--, Douglas, Gigi, and Barbara just to name a few. Too bad they don't have a manager who can be a role model of how to handle people read more

If I could have given this company a zero rating I totally would have. I don't think I have ever experienced service from retail folks like this ever. It was unbeleavable. I will never return. I came in looking for fabrics to make some dresses. I asked an associate where an item was located. Eye rolling, mumble and point. As I was looking fabrics a lady came up (from behind me, I wasn't even asking for help) and put her face directly in front of my face and asked, "Do you need any help?" with an incredibly rude tone and expression. I assured her that I didn't. I then became so uncomortable that I made my way to the exit. My friend however was told that the fabric she was told that she probaly couldn't afford it. She said, "Really? Well I guess I wont buy it then". The cashier of course didn't argue. I am not sure if it was just racial stereotyping or if these people are just not aware that they are working retail? Maybe this how this manager wants their buisness run. Snooty associates and judgy whispers behind your back. That's IF they're even making eye contact in your general direction. It's so unfortunate, the products are so beautiful and laid out in such a dreamlike way, floor to ceiling for many floors with every color and texture imaginable. I sew quite a bit (quilts, clothing, bags/purses, ect.) and have thus been to every fabric store in the bay area at some point. I avoid going to Britex if at all possible. I hate just leaving only a negative review so I will say that they have beautiful fabrics, that is unquestionable. The star is for that, and that only. However everything else about this place totally turns me off. The prices are sky high and I'm not quite sure why since I have found the exact same fabrics at other stores (I dutifully copied the bolt info down, compared it to the bolt info at the other stores and it was the EXACT SAME STUFF) for much, much less. Also the prices for their notions are sky high. Also 99% of the time the staff is completely rude as hell or totally ignores you. I've come in with the intent of dropping serious money on a project and couldn't find a single person to help me, Not even just to get a bolt down or cut some fabric I already selected. I work in retail, I know exactly how important customer service is...and they don't even pretend to provide it here. The only service I had that was decent was on the notions floor when buying some ribbon, once...about a year ago. It was by a younger blond girl. The older ladies don't give me the time of day. Bottom line for me: Fabrics, beautiful but pricey. Notions plentiful, but pricey. Customer service, almost non existant. read more
