This is, without question, one of the most dishonest and predatory automotive experiences my family has ever encountered. I have over 15 years of experience buying and working on Land Rovers. Based on that experience, I can say with confidence that we were repeatedly misled and overcharged. I made the mistake of trusting Steven Herrera to assist my daughter with the purchase of her first vehicle--a used Land Rover. That trust was completely misplaced. The vehicle was grossly misrepresented, poorly serviced, and priced more than $2,000 above its actual value, under the false impression that we were receiving a fair deal. Since the purchase, the car has been plagued with ongoing mechanical issues, compounded by substandard workmanship and a continuous stream of excuses and false statements. Taking advantage of an 18-year-old purchasing her first car is indefensible. I took my 2012 Range Rover to them for a NO STATR problem. Their charge for diagnosis was $796.00. Fault found was a faulty fuse box. Work approved at an estimate of $2489.64 including part. One month later with no communication from them, I called only to be informed that the part was on back order. Another month passed with no contact, so I called & was informed that the part was still on back order. Called the Rover dealership & they had the part, so I bought it & delivered it to them on 24th Nov with the understanding that the work would be completed no later than the 3rd of December as I was going overseas. On the 3rd morning I get a call from a Mr Luis Herrera informing me that the diagnostic / programing equipment required was damaged by one of his employees, so they would have to send the vehicle to the Land Rover dealership for them to complete the work! OK. Running out of time I said, go ahead & send it to the dealer as long as it does not exceed the estimate you gave me. Things went sour very quickly. No, you pay the dealership charges or get your vehicle out of here. So much for customer service! (WARNING) You might want to visit the working area behind the office to see all the dead vehicles before you become a victim. I have had my vehicle removed, at my cost, to another repair facility! read more

Took my 2020 Velar in for a routine oil change. 30-40 miles later my engine was destroyed. As per the conversation that day, "British Unlimited will cover the motor replacement for you at no cost". Well, 4 weeks later the owner says I owe him $3500 for an oil pump and that was the cause of the engine failure, claiming it's not his fault. So, I'm supposed to believe it was just a coincidence that the oil system had a failure right after leaving his shop, and he gave me a new engine out of the goodness of his heart? Turns out, that particular engine is very susceptible to the oil pump losing prime if the oil change isn't performed properly. To-date, have not received any documentation about the new engine and no details of the pricing/service for this $3500? The owner has said he will not give any documents and will not honor the engine warranty until I pay this mysterious $3500 charge? I have all the text messages for our communication if you are interested. As I understand from Land Rover, a new engine comes with the oil pump already installed regardless. So, my $260 oil change became a wrecked engine in a 23k mile vehicle, a month without a vehicle, and no engine warranty until I pay an undocumented $3500 fee. To be clear, I'm not looking for anything monetary, just the documentation for the new engine (as I am required to disclose if I sell later) and I want the warranty honored. read more

I thought I would share my recent story of getting my 2016 RRS TD6 repaired. First of all I just bought it in December 2018 from Expo Motorcars IMO stay away from there... anyway, by April 2019 the check engine light came on twice. I had to buy new tires and needed a complete brake job including a new caliper. The Southwest Land Rover dealership wanted to charge me $5,600 for throttle body replacement, front and rear brakes and replace the caliper. And another $255 for an alignment and in a few months they recommend i come back for a mileage service for $1,200. So I thought that was outrageous so I pulled my car from LR southwest Houston to British Unlimited in Spring, Tx where I got a hell of a deal. Instead of replacing the throttle body they serviced it for $150 vs $1.8k at the dealership then they did the complete brake job for $1,295 + $285 for a used caliper w 1yr warranty Vs $3.7k at the dealership. They Also bleed the brakes, did an alignment, an oil change topped off fluids, replaced cabin filter and reset service light all for wait for it $2.3k out the door! Never mind the reasonable prices, their consummate customer service was amazing! I was able to get Multiple questions asked. We communicated via text and phone call throughout the entire process! If that's not great care and service I don't know what is. I say all this to say if you're in Houston, Tx and you aren't getting warrantied work done at the dealer it is worth the drive to Spring/ The Woodlands to British Unlimited where Luis And Steven will take good care of you! read more

Where to start... THESE PEOPLE ARE INCOMPETENT + DECEITFUL! DO NOT TRUST THESE FRAUDULENT INDIVIDUALS! I recently important an '87 Range Rover Classic (turbo diesel) from Spain. I wanted to get a thorough mechanical inspection and any needed repairs to get it road ready. After doing some research (which wasn't enough) I reached out to the shop manager Steven Herrera who assured me they "knew" what they were doing when it came to vintage rovers. Admittedly he said that they were a smaller shop with one technician who would handle the once over and any repairs or suggested repairs that might come up. He said that it might take some time but that it should be no more than a month or two for the inspection/work depending on what was needed or decided upon. I decided to move forward. Well... a month goes by and nothing from them. So I decided to reach out and give them a call. A woman, who was nowhere to be found when I dropped the vehicle off, picks up. Of course she tells me that Stephen is busy but he'll return my call. Ok- no big deal. A few days go by and still no answer from Steven. Finally, I call back enough times (without ever getting a hold of Steven) that he calls me back. He tells me that his people are working on it and should have some answers/assessment shortly. This goes on and on over the course of the next few MONTHS. After about 4 months they FINALLY are finished with the diagnostic! I agree upon an extensive amount of work which Steven reassures me that it will be completed promptly. I should have known better... After another 4 months and constant pressure because I can never get a hold of Steven or the owner for an update. They tell me they are done with the work. I pick up the vehicle and pay them $10k+ for parts- with the majority of that in labor. After a couple days test driving the vehicle I realized that the oil leak on the turbo has not been fixed as they promised. I take it back to them and also notify them that the vehicle is having power issues in the top gear. They said no problem bring it back and they'll fix the leaks as they promised and will investigate further as to the power issues in 5th gear. A few weeks go by and no answers. A month goes by and no answers. Eventually the owner Luis Herrera ( I take it is Steven's father) says that there is an issue with the gearbox and his suggestion is a new transmission all together!!! He claims that the transmission isn't engaging top gear at all and that's why it's topping at a lower than normal speed. He assures me (like Steven) that while he doesn't have the tools to fix the gear box, a transmission swap to the tune of another $5k plus will solve the problem. Well... as you can imagine- HUGE RED FLAG!! I told him let's hold off on the transmission swap and please fix the leak as originally promised. When I go to get the vehicle- surprisingly through some "miracle" the vehicle has no problem engaging 5th gear!!! That's when I knew this was a fraudulent shop out to exploit customers. The vehicle is in my possession for a few days before the AC system which I spent near $5k on fails. Although I know these people can't be trusted I take the vehicle back to them asking them to stand by their warranty on the work. Another 5 months passes and guess what? Steven and Luis refuse to work on the vehicle and just let it sit. During this time they also tell me that the diesel fuel pump is completely trashed and it needs to be "rebuilt" by a specialist- since they can't source an OEM pump. Ok fine- they sent a video to me showing the fuel pump leak. Since the vehicle is in their possession already I allow them to replace to pump. What's the definition of insanity again? Long story short- Steven's mailbox is always full and then their (cell) number for "some reason" is eventually disconnected. Funny, right?? I have to send my elderly father over to the shop who lives nearby (I reside in Austin) to check up on them and he gets the run around too. Eventually Luis says that he's worried that when the fuel pump is rebuilt he won't be able to time it properly. Why did it take 5 months to come to that conclusion I have no I idea?? His brilliant solution- why don't I opt for an LS swap to the discount tune of $50k+ which he promises they have a ton of experience with!! I blew $10k what's another $50k right?? NO LUIS, NOT A SUCKER. Just an honest person who sadly put his trust in you and your FRAUDULENT shop. I immediately went and picked up/towed my Rover to an actually knowledgeable and honest shop in central Texas who sourced and swapped an OEM fuel pump with no issues and no hassle. They also corrected British Unlimited failed work on the AC- which they called "laughable" and either "incompetent or "deceitful". I'm going with the latter. BUYER BEWARE!!! DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THESE PEOPLE !!!! Let my experience be a lesson and let this review expose these CROOKS once and for all. read more

Back with a follow-up review, I had to put this out there.. My Disco developed a misfire, and I was dealing with cylinders that appeared to be completely dead. A near-by shop told me I would need to replace the motor and that I had no other options. After talking to Steven at British Unlimited, he assured me that the D2 is bulletproof and the issue was likely something less severe, like a stuck valve spring keeper and wouldn't require a new motor. Steven sent a wrecker to come pick up my D2 from the other shop, and brought the D2 back to British Unlimited for repair. The repair was extensive and thorough; they rebuilt my motor and also insured there were no leaks anywhere throughout the system. When I got my D2 back, it was running like a top. Needless to say, I am a happy camper. Steven always makes time to answer my endless questions regarding upgrades, performance issues, repairs, and future plans for the D2, and Mr. Luis is an absolute professional and it shows in the way the shop is run. I live 50 miles from the shop. Won't take my D2 anywhere else again. read more

I say this due to Luis, Steven, and the British Unlimited team going above and beyond to provide great service. My RR was acting up and Steven was able to get me in the same day. Steven was incredibly friendly and assured me they will diagnose the issue and provide some guidance. They did just that. Steven kept me informed of any updates. Luis and his team was able to find the root cause of the problem preventing the RR from driving. He fixed it and also was able to fix some other items needing attention that I ask for. Everything was clearly explained to me of what needed to be fixed and the repairs were reasonably priced. I purchased my 2002 LandRover Discovery SE II APPROXIMATELY 16 years ago. When the Warranty ended, I started to bring my truck for repairs and service to British Unlimited in 2007. Luis and his son Steven have been the only mechanic's to work on my truck and they have done outstanding work. They are honest about the trucks problems and very reasonable. Recently they replaced the original 4.0 Liter engine with a long block 4.6 Liter from www.roverparts.com . They have replaced the original plastic bumpers with metal bumpers front and back and added a skid late with a LED light BAR. They repainted the truck, tinted the windows, put new leather on the front seats, new front windshield. We replaced the original expensive shocks with coil shocks. Not to mention all the little repairs over the last 11 years!!! I would highly recommend this shop to anyone who owns a Land Rover, and especially anyone who plans to keep your truck for along time. This is a solid 4.5 star review. I have to start by saying that if you own a Land Rover and have only ever taken it to the dealership, never considered it anything more than a super-luxury vehicle that can only be properly worked on by guys in khaki shits and factory paychecks- move along back to your super-luxury repair bills. This place is the absolute BEST place to get the Land Rover name-plate serviced for completely reasonable prices in Houston. I brought my vehicle here before for several problems and Luis, the owner, and his team are like wild-men when it comes to just taking care of problems. They fixed the problem and also did a couple of preventative maintenance things without a mention on the invoice. I called to see how much a head gasket job on my 2004 Discovery II would be.... $1100.00! Compared to the $3,000 (at least) you would pay at the dealer. I decided to to the work myself- but time has been tight and I still think about bringing it over to them to finish. There is nothing fancy about the shop, but the guys know there stuff and are accountable in the Houston Land Rover Community. They are a low budget shop doing some really great work. They have been one of the few businesses since I've lived in Texas that seem to understand customer communication. I took my Jaguar XF in for an oil change, 60k service, and a diagnostic due to some small personal concerns. Luckily I did! My experience was with Steven who made me feel informed and was attentive to my multiple emails.They were able to diagnose a few costly issues which they quickly moved threw my extended warranty. The process as a customer was very easy and most of all I left feeling confident and informed about the entire transaction with very little money out of pocket. I recently acquired a 2004 Range Rover and a week after I tried to turn the ignition on. The key wouldn't turn. I looked on YouTube for help and found out this is a common problem. The fix was to remove the fuse (#13 I think) and that resets the security in the steering column. I took it to the dealer and was quoted $3,500 to replace the steering column. I rigged up one of the bypasses found on YouTube to the fuse. It worked but was very awkward and embarrassing when I had passengers. I found British Unlimited by passing it on my way to work and seeing the positive reviews. I wanted an oil change for a reasonable price so I gave them a shot. I was very impressed and the savings was also impressive! Steven asked me if I wanted to have a permanent fix for my rigged fuse box (he said this with a smile I could see under his mask). I already had the quote from the dealer and asked him how much? He said $800!!!! Yes! Yes! Yes! He scheduled it and I have never been happier! Great service from that point on! Avoid the dealers, LRU is probably the best place to go to if you want superb service on your vehicle. As complicated as these cars are, Luis and his team really put their work into it at competitive pricing. After searching for repair shops around town for some mechanical work that needed to be done on my RRS due to a failing part on my powertrain and 2 other minor issues. Several other shops around town were either charging astronomical prices on P&L that were close to dealer quote, quoted a 1-1.5 week turnaround, or didn't do the service at all! I decided to try this shop out based on some recommendations from several owners on an online forum. I called to set up everything to be done on Friday and the truck was out of the shop by next morning. The service was extremely fast for this sort of major repair and applaud the work that was done. Cons: Multi-point inspections: I'm used to seeing some comprehensive paper report on the car's diagnostics, but on my visits, I've only had verbal reports on the car's status. It would be nice to have documentation as I keep my maintenance papers on file. Other than that...nothing really! read more

There is no other place I would EVER take my Rover to get service. I've tried 2 dealers here in town and have not been happy with either. Luis and his crew are top notch, not out to take you to the cleaners, and do repair work beyond reproach. Took my '06 LR3 in for what would have been 2K$+ at a dealer (replace all front control arms, bushings, alignment, oil change/service, and a replacement key (and reprogramming both)). Saved about 25-30% over dealer, got a 1 year warranty on the work, and my Rover drives better now than it did as new. This is the second time Luis has worked on our car, the first time when he could have done several thousand dollars of work on blown ECMs, he found a service bulletin via Land Rover that would cover it. He coordinated with a dealer, got it towed over to them, and I got it fixed with only a few hundred the dealer skimmed out of me for unnecessary parts when they were trying to troubleshoot. ...It could have been 5K$+ Trustworthy, quality work, great communicator, and priced right! read more

The project took months longer than the shop said it would, when I politely expressed my concerns the owner of the business completely changed his tone and spoke to me in a way that is completely unacceptable to talk to a customer. The shop never fixed the truck properly after months of waiting. I have never dealt with a Land Rover mechanic, let alone an auto shop, that is as professional and knowledgeable as these guys are. From my first inquiring phone call through working on and fixing my vehicle these guys did absolutely everything right. I never felt like I was being misled or that they were trying to find new problems. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. I brought in my 2012 Range Rover Sport with a front right suspension fault and also some squeaky brake issues. They immediately put it up and confirmed the suspension issue and also the status of my brakes and rotors (all for no cost) and they told me they could do it all in ONE day and that they could process the warranty claim for the suspension fault. Being somewhat of a pessimist and weary of auto shops I still brought it to the dealership to have them take a look as well. It took them TWO days to just tell me what I had already learned from these guys in 15 minutes. I didn't even have the dealership look at my brakes because they would've charged me just for the "diagnostic". Anyway, since it was already there I had the dealership go ahead and process the warranty claim for the suspension issue and I only had the pay the deductible. They gave me a quote on the brakes and rotors though and that was $1,400!! So I brought it back to British Unlimited and it cost me $595 out the door and it was done in less than half a day. Next time I will bring any warranty claims to these guys because they deserve all the money. The guy I interacted with (Steven) was fantastic. I had an ordeal of an experience at this place. Spent over 8K only to given one month warranty on my Evoque. I believe several parts on my vehicle were removed/replaced for whatever reason (my fuel tank cover is broken and yet it wasn't when I delivered the car to them. My Engine fun control module never had issues. I had to ask them to replace it) Unprofessional front office staff often gave me wrong billing information. At the end of the day I felt taken advantage off. I spent over 8K at this shop and only spoke to the owner once when delivering the car. I was left to deal with Steven who is the owners young son - the guy sounds like he is in his 20's. All the other times the owner Luis was never available to talk and listen to my grievances.
