Through Pep Boys Roadside Assistance, I scheduled for Milstead Automotive to tow my car and was given an arrival time of 5:45-6:15 pm. I called Milstead around 6:20 pm because the online portal did not show that the status of my service had been updated to show that the tow truck was in route or that the truck had already picked up my vehicle. I was told by a Milstead employee that their drivers were behind because of traffic and could not arrive before 7 pm. This was going to be a problem because the business my vehicle was at closed at 7 pm. The employee said that she could reschedule my service for 8 am the next day and I agreed to that. For the original service request, I spoke to a Milstead employee at 4:24 pm to confirm that they had received my request and it was confirmed. No one from Milstead contacted me to say that they were not going to be able to adhere to their arrival time. The next day, I called Milstead around 8:15 am to see if my car had been picked up and the employee said that my service had been set for 10-11 am and could not be moved to a sooner time. I let the employee know about my situation from the previous day and she said there was no documentation that my tow service was rescheduled for 8 am that day. I canceled my service with Milstead because they pushed back their arrival time twice without updating me that they would be doing so. read more

NEVER GO THERE! My 2011 Honda Pilot had an issued the end of November with the brake lights staying on after the car was shut off. It ended up draining my battery. AAA came and charged the battery. I took it to Milstead and they supposedly fixed it for $150.00. The cost of the part was $12.00 It happened again mid January (about 6 weeks later). They insisted on doing a "diagnostic" for which they charged $150.00. They replaced a second part that they should have done the first time and the part was $26.00 and the labor another $62.50 for labor. I really appreciate that they gave me different options on ways to save money on parts (OEM vs aftermarket) for my repair since I was a cash paying customer. I got a quote from Caliber Collision and the price difference was shocking! As it turns out Milstead is a much better equipped body shop because they had the technicians and equipment on hand and did not need to hire anyone out to do recalibrations for the sensors on my bumper which that alone saved me $400-600. To top it off they offered a courtesy car wash and interior vacuum which I wasn't at all expecting. Thank you Milstead for going totally out of your way to serve your customer. I took my Mercedes Sprinter to this company because it was suggested by my insurance company! This was the worst experience I've ever had in my life! Not only does my vehicle have multiple damages but the staff was very rude and dismissive! I was told to come and pick up my vehicle that was now non drivable and still disassembled when it was drivable when it arrived! I have videos and pictures of the behavior of the staff and the damage done to my Sprinter! I would not suggest this company to my worst enemy save your money your time and your peace! We are visiting the Houston area from Washington state in our motorhome. We noticed a small leak and asked around for recommendations. Several people and friends recommended Milstead Automotive, which happened to be just around the corner from the RV park. Called and set up an appointment for the first part of the morning the next day. Within minutes, they diagnosed the problem and set up another appointment for the fix 3 days later. There was no charge for the first day. We live in our motorhome, so having it fixed that day was important. They completed the work that day. The lease service department (Dennis) was very nice and helpful from the first phone call. We would recommend this company for any vehicle repair. read more

Shady business... Please be careful at the 242 and 45 Burger King because they have setup a "tow trap". Milstead has a contract with Redline towing and the Burger King at 242 and 45. First, The Burger King parking lot has signs that saying they will tow. I understand that BUT the tow truck driver stages myself where he can see the lot. I was going to the subway next door to the Burger King. I drove through the subway lot and it was completely full and the Burger King lot was empty. I parked legally in the Burger King lot because it was the only place I could park legally in the area. By the time I walked in and ordered and walked out he had my trucks front tires off the ground and he's telling me $135 to put it down now or $350 to pick it up at the tow yard. I was in the subway for 6 minutes. I know it was wrong, even the MCP officer that I called said it was wrong but he couldn't do anything about it. Did not get my money back but I will. read more

Beware. Beware. Beware. This automotive shop is dishonest. I needed an oil change, tire rotation and start/stop battery replacement. Immediately they wanted a $80 diagnostic fee to check the battery. When I objected they explained that the start/stop battery was buried in the dash and was labor intensive to check. The battery in fact is not buried in the dash, but easily accessible. This was the first lie to justify their "erroneous fees". After waiting hours, I called and they informed me my vehicle was ready for pick up. Note they never called or notified me that my vehicle was ready. They charged a labor fee of $112.77 to unscrew two bolts from old battery and screw them into the new battery. I asked if they felt this price was fair and my Service Advisor arrogantly said yes. He then antagonized me saying are you threatening to write a bad review. Honestly, I had no intention of writing a review I simply wanted my vehicle fixed at a fair price. I told him no threats just want to know if he felt $112.77 is a justified cost to unscrew two screws and screw them back in. After paying $353.88 I went out to vehicle to leave and the start/stop light indicator light was on in the vehicle. I went back in to notify them, and their response was we can run a diagnostic for $80.00. They held very firm to this diagnostic fee. I assume their Service Advisor's get a commission or a diagnostic fee is the product they are trying to push this month. I left the facility and called the Manager of the department to detail what had occurred, and he said we could collaborate on a solution, but a diagnostic fee would probably be enforced. Here is the final verdict. I went home and researched the problem myself. I found out the technician did not install the new start/stop battery correctly. You must disconnect the negative main battery and the start/stop battery for the Intelligent Battery System to recognize the new start/stop battery. I did this myself and it took approximately 3 minutes, and the issue was fixed. The service advisors were so blinded with arrogance and pride that they failed to see they made a mistake. They wanted to stick it to me the customer and charge me a bunch of diagnostic fees. If the work had been performed correctly the issue would have been resolved. My caution to all. Do not disagree with the Service Advisor. I can assure you they will purposefully not fix your issue. They will attempt to teach you a lesson, even if you are right, because their pride is more important than the customer. After reading several reviews this is a systemic issue at this facility. The good reviews are clearly bots used by their marketing firm. I was on 99 coming home from work on Friday. I had a blow out. My internet was out and a friend sent me Milsteads phone number. I called but was unable to give a location. Cars were racing by. This was my first time experience with this auto shop and the facility & resource has to justify the increased price in labor and parts. The only issue that I had is that they wouldn't use my parts and that's fine but considering this place has so Much the fact that spark plugs would go missing from the box I left in my vehicle makes me see that the mechanic looked at my parts and well you can fill in the rest. I appreciate that I pay kindly and happily but to have parts missing right away is ridiculous. That's what I get for not going through my vehicle and checking everything thoroughly. Milstead towing is above and beyond one of the best towing companies I've ever experienced. I've had the unfortunate pleaser of using Milstead 4 times in the past 5 years. The first two were personal after having car accidents. However the last two and most recent were for work. In the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey Milstead as the first company that came to mind when we needed to get our mobile pharmacy in place at the convention center. They were prompt, courteous and one of the team. The second call came when it was time to move the trailer to its second site at one of our closed stores. This shop is garbage! Had them rebuild a transmission that didn't even last a year and a half! Also had to take it back in that time for what should of been warranty work cause the converter broke and they blamed it on my flywheel saying a should've replaced it with the trans which was never recommended to do so I ended up paying for a fly wheel a torque converter and labor. I asked for an oil change and preventative maintenance check on my Class A gas engine RV. Due to a change in personnel at Milstead I was assigned to the Fleet Division. It took 10 days to complete the oil change, and I felt that I was overcharged for the service. After discussions with the Fleet manager, Kevin, I eventually agreed to pay $275. I believe the Fleet Division at Milstead is primarily dealing with commercial customers, and their pricing reflects that. Kevin and his staff were polite, but overall the experience has convinced me to look for alternatives in the future. read more

All I'm going to say is the TOWING DEPARTMENT is very unprofessional. My main focus is how you talk to people and how you communicate with people, maybe because I'm a minority. This is my second negative review for them!! This time it is for a break problem. It was in the shop for over a month because they wanted to do a "safe job". I ended up having to locate the correct part. Then when I picked it up, the pedal went all the way to the floor!!!! I was told by the mechanic AND the service writer "all I have to do is pump the pedal". Avoid this place at all costs unless you enjoy being screwed! I took my 2003 VW Golf in yesterday for a diagnostic test. It's due for its annual inspection. I took it in first thing in the morning. They open at 7am, but their shuttle service doesn't begin until 8am. They failed to tell me this the day before when I asked when to bring my car in, and if they would have a shuttle to take me to my office. They did say, though, that they work on cars on a first come, first serve basis... so I figured I'd bring it in as early as I could. They called me 4 hours later (so much for getting the car to their shop early so it could be worked on quickly) to tell me that two problems showed up in their test. First, an engine temperature sensor needed to be replaced - $170 for that. Second, the catalytic converter needed replacement - $1060 for that. I asked what exactly was wrong with the cat to warrant total replacement of the system, and they simply said "it's no longer heating the gases enough to pass the emissions test". They said the part would be $660 and $400 for the labor. I told them to replace the sensor, but leave the cat alone. After asking around, I found a guy (Steve at Mayco Muffler Shop #2 on Bellaire) who could replace just the cat converter (not the entire system) for only $245! This, apparently, is all that is necessary for the car to pass the emissions test. So, I stopped by Milstead late in the afternoon to pick my car up and take it to the $245 guy. They were supposed to have the temp sensor replaced, mind you, but they did not. I paid them $90(!!) for the diagnostic test and took my car to Steve. He said he could replace the sensor for only $75. To summarize, I would have paid a total of $1320 at Milstead, but instead I ended up paying only $340. If you're a fan of shelling out big bucks for auto repairs, Milstead is the place for you! read more

Superior customer service, outstanding head-to-toe diagnostics, Honest and Trustworthy, BUT very expensive. -very friendly employees. They communicate very well, and they call with updates. -full diagnostics (yes, it is expensive), but they will rip your car apart from heat-to-toe and notify you of any found issues. For instance, i only needed a replacement cam sensor, but I was given a rundown of all other issues from brake pads to engine issues, etc. Yes, i get it - it's a way they can do more work on your car, and add to their bottom line - but you are in command of what you want done, and what you are willing to pay. They are fair, and won't pressure you in making costly choices. -Trustworthy and Honest. My experience with auto mechanics in the past, is that many are lacking in this department. It's not until i hand others my business card which reads "mechanical engineer" on it until they own up to their words. I don't have that issue at Milstead. -friendly shuttle service: Unlike other reviews posted here, i have had excellent shuttle service (used it twice) AND at 7am when they open on Monday morning. Call them in advance to be sure, but they WILL find someone to get you where you need to be. -washed & vacuumed my car. It was returned in much better condition than i left it. - i had an issue where a part they installed was faulty (Nissan part), and i didn't discover it until over a month later. They warrantied the part, fixed it free of charge, and still provided me with as much care/service as before. I understand it wasn't their fault, but they still took responsibility for it and made it right. -the costs of parts and labor is expensive. If you know the root issue of your problem and want it done quickly and cheaply, Milstead may not be the best place for you. However, if you want a job done right and done fairly, take it to Milstead. read more

This place seems to have great service. I've only had my oil changed here a few times, but for the most part they always do a fantastic job. The staff is kind, and their facilities are clean. They are a popular location on Rayford, so their wait times can be a bit too long. An oil change has taken over an hour most times. Never had a problem with them though! Very affordable. As far as other automotive work goes, I can't be too sure on that service. Oh and they have drinks and snacks in their lobby while you're waiting! read more

They quoted me a $3K in repairs I needed!!! $1800 of the repair amount was what I took it in for. I told them that was a really high amount and wanted to get a second opinion so I then went to milstead automotive. They quoted $1200 in repairs over the phone based on what Honda Of Spring said was wrong, luckily the guys at milstead told me they could do another diagnostic if I wanted to but it was my choice, I said go ahead. IM SO GLAD I said yes because the repair that ABSOLUTELY needed to be done was only $500!!!!!! They saved me $1300 in UNNECESSARY repairs on my car!!! THANKS TO YOU MILSTEAD and nothing to Honda. They quickly completed the inspection and sent us on or way, but we still witnessed firsthand the high level of service they provided all the other customers while we waited. I took my 2001 Chevy Malibu in for a exhaust manifolds leak, two studs was broken. Okay, how much? They told me$1,500 to replace the broken studs. WHAT!!!! I have a Malibu not the Ferrari! Yeah, 1,500 ... I just had it done at a mom and pop's muffler shop for$250 dollars but, I gave him $175 dollars more to do it today instead of Monday. That's sad.
