In a surgeon, the only thing I really care about is good results and reasonably clear explanations of the procedure. I was pleased on both accounts. I've had two surgeries at the scrotum both of which came out well. Not just well, but with virtually no post surgical pain. I didn't even need a Tylenol. While everybody is different, I have to assume the skill of the surgeon was an important factor in my experience. I almost didn't write this, however when I think I lost a great dr all because of the inefficiency of office workers I get upset. First of all, this review is not about Dr. Brito but his phone staff and some in his office. Dr. Brito is an amazing human with developed skills that define him as the "best of the best" in Az as a urologist. I started being his patient in 2018. Loved having his great staff support him and the care they showed for the patients. In 2021 I believe they sold their practice and incorporated the current phone system. Since 2021 my appointments were canceled 13 times in 4 years. Sometimes they would cancel appt just to reschedule and then end up cancelling that appointment. When I spoke up saying cancellation of my appts were starting to interfere with my healthcare, I was told if I didn't feel good to go to an urgent care. I believe the correct response would have been, can you come in to see his PA or one of his partners. Unfortunately I know multiple people that see Dr. Brito and have experienced the same thing. Dr Brito should not have to worry about how the phones and appts are managed. Unfortunately whoever is his office manager needs to be retrained in running an effective and efficient office. read more

I had surgery with this Dr. In 2017. He is a good Dr. No other problems arrived with this. I made another appointment with him. My condition came back. He was different than before. There are alternatives to my condition. Didn't seem like he wanted to listen to me since I informed him I did research an alternative way...which would be an outpatient type surgery. He was kinda short with me...in a hurry...but when I mentioned what I researched...he KIND OF listened. I do not want to go through what I went through the first time...My new appointment for a scan is tomorrow. Then a visit with the Dr. about it. We shall see. I might seek a second opinion. Have been going to Dr Brito for 17 years. His care has been exceptional. Todays' visit was pretty standard - warm greeting, care questions and an exam. I was seen 10 min prior to my scheduled time. Can't say enough about Dr. Brito and my experience. After having 3 catheters for three months due to broken down health care in my town, I was referred to Arizona Urlology Specialists of which Dr.Brito is one of many urologists that support this amazing clinic. I was a bit apprehensive in the beginning, but I had no choice and had to move forward. At 72 this was my first ever surgery and I was amazed how streamlined and efficiently it went. I have been a patient of Dr Brito for over ten years and as a physician I understand the ongoing and increasing pressures for both specialists and primary care physicians to manage the burdens of managed and governmental care and still retain some sort of personal doctor-patient relationship. Dr. Brito has always been extremely professional, competent, and caring in manner and management of my urologic issues. Recently his practice has been absorbed by a larger corporate physician network and the communication on the front end has suffered and seems much more impersonal, however Dr. Brito is well aware and strives to maintain his level of personal care despite this. Just had an MRI aided prostate biopsy performed by Dr Brito. I only felt the local anesthetic injections. More pressure than pain. No sensation from the 15 samples taken. Attending staff were friendly, helpful and personable. Dr Brito was very professional and kept me informed about what he was doing all along the way. It was clear he wanted me comfortable and informed. I think the clinical staff are very good, very professional. I picked him because he's rated one of the very best Urologists in the area and I have a history of Prostate cancer in my family (and I supplement testosterone - which he makes clear he does not like) I needed someone really good. Nothing about my experience with him suggests he's anything less than the best. No matter what I've thought of the up front office staff or even his sometimes gruff no nonsense approach, I appreciate how good he is and Im thankful he's looking after my health. Strongly suggest one stays away from Dr. Gil Brito. Read the other one (1) star reviews. They are correct. He had to do my surgery twice because the first time he did not do all that was required according to what he told me when he said he had to go back in. Dr Brito does not like you to ask questions. He prefers to walk in the exam room, start talking and leave. He does not want to listen to you. Dr. Brito's staff is nearly impossible to reach by phone. The office telephone number is answered by an out of state answering service and they will not transfer you to his office. He over books his appointments and is always late. There is much more that can be said; however the best thing one can take away from this message is to find another doctor as fast as you can, if you care about your medical care. read more

Was not impressed. Doctor acted like he has anxiety. Came in and ask me my age. He said I didn't think you were 83 after asking my age. Had the wrong chart. Also left cell phone in office. Came back acted like I was not important just a number. Talking so fast. When I try to ask questions interrupted and told that's not what we're talking about several times. Had me go through procedures beforehand to be told we can't do it because of your disease. Just wanted the money because healthcare now days has to hit quotas. I have never met someone that knows it all and you can't ask questions. You need to slow down and show compassion and respect. I have always saw Lauren she is amazing. It is not in my DNA to write thank you letters to doctors under my care when a mutual and friendly understanding already exist between patient and doctor. However, when I do write a thank you note to a doctor it's gotta be something that is unique with a point of deference and needs to be shared with others. Dr. Brito listens to your concerns and takes a genuine personal interest in all endeavors of his unselfish discipline to help all of his patients This is where Dr. Brito shines the most! Dr. Brito lays out and maps his surgical procedures and options in lay terminology with such delicacy of mannerisms and understanding that simply puts the patient in a calm like confidence that makes the entire sit-down-with-the-doc a most pleasant experience. A doctor can be a good doctor but not a good surgeon.  A doctor can be a good surgeon but not a good doctor. Well, last year I had an appointment for a routine urology check with Dr. Brito and was pleased with him, but two days ago I attempted to call the office to have them renew my prescription, and was treated so rudely by the woman who answered the phone, and then Dr Brito's front office person that I was astonished! I tried to call back to re-attempt working with them, and was told by the Doctor's assistant that she would work this all out, and then after not hearing anything from her, I called and was told I could not again speak with the assistant, and told that if I needed to talk with her or the Doctor I'd need to make an appointment...Needless to say after being treated so badly by the staff, I will not be going back to Dr Brito. read more

I went on a mission to find the best urologist in Arizona, I read several reviews that Gilberto was the man for the job. I called and they said he was booked for almost 2 months, so I knew I had the right guy. I booked my appointment and waited. During my consult, he spent a good amount of time with me talking about how it was going to happen, the risks and so on. Didn't make me feel rushed and made me feel comfortable going with him, even though it's a routine operation for him. During the procedure, he explained in detail on everything he was doing which made me feel comfortable 'what was coming up next'. Overall, a great doctor, would recommend him to anyone. read more

I don't want anyone to have the same experience as my husband with this dr. He performed vasectomy and severe nerve damage and pain as result. Dr did NOTHING to help resolve problem. Now things have escalated into more severe problems with continued pain everyday. Husband called office to make appointment and front staff very rude and unprofessional. Receptionist asked him to find another dr. This Dr runs from accountability! My husband is in perfect health/very fit. This Dr did NOT perform procedure correctly and does not want to follow through. He is a specialist. Very professional & in my case it wasn't easy to fix me but he does not give up. I used two other Urologist's plus the Mayo Clinic. So fortunate to have Dr. Brito as my urologist. He is very thorough...performed Lithotripsy (ESWL) to break up a 10mm kidney stone, and I am happy to be a success story for that procedure. Within 10 days, the stone fragments passed. Since the procedure, two (2) KUB images have come back clear.
