In the area for a relaxing Virginia mountain vacation, Yelp led us to Brix & Columns for a wine experience. We were specifically searching for a dog-friendly place we could bring the pups, and not only do they welcome the well-behaved fur babies but have one of their own too! Built with Jeffersonian architecture, the property is modern yet attractive and feels like you're visiting a historic property. There is a large event space, a spacious tasting room, and ample outdoor seating which is mostly shaded to enjoy even on a hot sunny day. My wife and I both enjoyed flights of wine and followed them with a glass of our favorites. The flights are served nicely and every pour is in its own glass, no reusing or cheap plastic cups here. Service was great with very nice staff. It was a peaceful outdoor experience and we really enjoyed just sitting and relaxing. I would absolutely come back! read more

Great little winery that we stayed at through Harvest Host. They had a beautiful facility. Not only was it great for a stay, the inside would have made for a great wedding reception location. We were there on a Friday night and they had a nice musician playing some very chill music. The vineyard and its surroundings were super peaceful and made for a great evening. We had food delivered from a local restaurant that was recommended to us and had a nice picnic down at a little secluded area they set up. read more

This place is awesome!!!! It checks all the boxes: nice view of the mountains, plenty of space, super dog friendly (my dog was allowed in the tasting room,) and a large selection of wines. They have three choices of tasting!!!!! White, red, or sweet. We did the sweet and liked most of the wines. White Brix really stood out. Hubby and I was visiting Virginia and wanted to go to a few vineyards while in the area. We chose Brix and Columns as one of them. It's a beautiful vineyard with wonderful wines, views and kind staff. This was our second visit and the wines were still fantastic. We really enjoyed the mimosa Sunday,the flight of mimosa and White wine was incredible. This is a must stop if you are visiting vineyards in the area, definitely one of the best! We stopped in on a Wednesday afternoon after enjoying the Massanutten Fall Scenic Chairlift Ride. I was pleasantly surprised to see how busy they winery was. The staff member warmly greeted us and was very helpful. I tried a white wine flight and really enjoyed the wines. It was a chilly day so we sat inside but they had a really nice outside seating area. It was nice to be able to bring our own food and enjoy the wine and ambiance of this venue. Unfortunately, we had a terrible experience here and the wine was just as bad. It all started with the greeting. Our group of 8 walked in at 1 pm and it was completely empty (minus one other couple). We were asked if we had a reservation of which we said no and we were told they are needed due to a busy day/season. We thought she was joking but she was not. We tried a couple of the wines and selected two we thought were best. Between the 8 of us we didn't finish either bottle of wine! And that's saying a lot for VA Wine drinkers! The view was great and weather and company was perfect, but we left the bottles of wine on counter and left. Overall, not so great experience, but before we left the employee came out and took our pics in front of the beautiful pumpkin arrangement. read more

The first time in a decade where the entire flight of Reds were bad enough for me to just not drink them and hand them back to be poured out. My wife even thought one may make us sick. Truly sad. Such a nice place but truly not a place I would ever go back to after visiting and tasting the red wines. The guy took the red flight back full and rush it to the back. In addition to glasses and bottles, they do offer flights- red, white, or sweet. 5 wines for I believe it was $12. Got white and sweet flights and enjoyed them outside on the very large front lawn. Not a big fan of the wines, but taste is subjective. We didn't have reservations, and it was around 4pm on a Saturday, near closing time, so it wasn't too busy and we got our flights quickly. There were several tables and chairs set up with plenty of space between them (driving up, we thought there was a wedding going on, because of how nice it looked!) and it wasn't too busy so the tables/chairs were available, but I did see reserved signs on some of them. There are also more chairs and tables around back. If it's busy, bring your own picnic blanket. read more

I had a very nice experience at this vineyard with the exception of "Mr. Grouchy". My friend and I were being waited on by a very nice woman before this man walked in and was the rudest person I have I have encountered in quite a while. I had already determined that there were only 3 wines I wanted to try and was told that we were allowed to try three without buying a flight. I tried 1 and tasted my friend's which was the second one I wanted to try and asked about the port. He responded that they didn't have any ports very angrily. My friend had only had one and he stated that if she had any more she might have a flight. Really? I ended up getting one bottle of wine because it was delicious but would probably gave gotten more if I wasn't so upset. I actually thought about not buying anything at all but when my husband went to go purchase it the woman waited on him so we got it. I hosted Friendsgiving this year in Massanutten and wanted to add a group wine tasting to the weekend. Needless to say that Brix and Columns was a hit. Our reservation was set for 11:30 and we were seated early upon our arrival. We got a full explanation on the flights on the menu and severed immediately. The place was nicely decorated the ambiance was warm and cozy conversations were held at a respectful tone. I didn't know that we could bring some snacks but now that I do have that information, I will be sure the next trip here in the summer I will do so. read more

You HAVE to visit this place. Me and my wife went and even on a rainy day the staff there made our experience unforgettable. The wine was truly amazing. And the vineyards as you drive by is breathtaking. While you sit and drink there are mountains in the distance that are extraordinary. We could've stayed here all day. We sat outside and my wife was cold and asked for my coat and I gave it to her. The staff saw through the window and next thing you know they offered her a blanket. We live just 10 minutes away from this vineyard. We tried them not long after moving here 6 years ago a couple of times and had not been back since. Some new acquaintances invited us to join them there as it was there wine club pick up day. We agreed and were pleasantly surprised. Their wine offerings had grown greatly, as had the quality of the wine itself. I personally fell in love with the Petite Manseng and the Viognier. I'm not a big red wine drinker, so I did not sample those this return trip. The views here are incredible to both the east and west, with the West holding a beautiful view of Massanutten Mountain. So, if you're winding your way through the Shenandoah Valley's wine trail, this would be worth a stop. read more

Our family member told us about this place, it wasn't too far from where we are staying. It's a beautiful sprawling place, with nice scenery. It's a nice place to host a Wedding or Events, plenty of open space with floor to ceiling Windows. Upon entering the Staff were very nice and welcoming and was helpful in explaining the Wines. They also have a descriptive Wine list of Red and White Wine posted next to the Entrance. We chose both the White and Red Wine tastings, I'm a Red Wine Drinker so it was perfect for me. I like Sweet Wine, but most of the Wines were a little tart to me, but they had a smooth taste. Highly recommend if you are a Wine Drinker. read more

It's convenient staying so close to a winery! Just under 10 minutes away from my vacation lodging, this winery was surrounded by massive fields and an epic mansion in the background. When my friend and I went inside, there were signs that showed what we could purchase, and we decided on their flights. I will just speak on the ones that stood out -- for Reds, Kerus was my favorite, and it's named after an organization that proceeds are donated to in South Africa. For the Whites, White Brix was the highlight -- so much that I had to get a bottle. While sitting outside and enjoying the flights, a group gathered nearby to do yoga and dogs were frolicking in the field. The weather was amazing and the vibes were great! I thought this place was pretty neat. I liked their selection of drinks (such as offering mimosas on a Sunday afternoon!). I tried their blue toad amber apple cider and it was good! You can bring your own food and there's lots of tables outside and inside. The inside isn't anything special or amazing, but still nice and clean looking. It kind of looks like an expo center with foldable tables and chairs. All in all, a good experience, but I'd recommend other vineyards before coming here again. read more

First visit here last Sunday and we really enjoyed the wine, the view of the Blue Ridge, the venue and hospitality. We were entertaining out of town guests at our place in Staunton and wanted to find a winery which would give them a head start on their drive back to D.C. We called ahead to make sure they were dog friendly so we could bring our young doodle. The host dog was a rather huge great dane who was friendly but inquisitive. While dogs are welcome in the indoor tasting room, we sat out on the covered patio to enjoy the views. I did not have a chance to sample their reds -- my usual choice -- but did try several whites and spent the afternoon with their chilled, dry Viognier. Very enjoyable. read more

Brix and Columns started as a farm and event center which recently added 'winery' to its repertoire. Co-owner Stephanie Pence and wine dog extraordinaire Winston were around when I visited, so I got extra special attention. B & C have about 9 acres under vine, but none are yet producing. So for now, they get grapes from all over Virginia, including some from Honah Lee - one of Michael Shap's favorite vineyards. In fact, Shaps is their wine maker. So far, so good. As befits someplace that specializes in weddings the place is beautiful, and will be even more so once the vines grow. It must be a very family friendly place, because after I arrived a family with small kids show up to sip wine on the porch. One of the highlights was Winston, who would paw at the sliding glass doors to get in, only to want to exit 5 minutes later. What I tried: 13 Chardonnay: As someone who definitely prefers reds, I was very pleasantly surprised by this one. 8 months in neutral French oak, plus some time in steel. It had only the barest hint of oak, so the grape really shined through. This was my favorite of the day, and I enjoyed a glass with my lunch. 16 Viognier: Strong honeysuckle notes. Rose: I'm not a rose drinker, so not much for me to say other than I liked the color. 14 White Brix: Sweet but not too sweet. 15 Cabernet Franc: I got raspberry notes, and none of the pepper notes I often find. 15 Petit Verdot: Still young, but not bad. But 18 months in French Oak is impressive barrel time, so this will definitely improve. 15 McGahey: Also young. 50% Cab Sav, 25% PV, 25% Tannat. I'll look forward to this one it ages a bit, because I love this combo of grapes. read more

Let's talk road, it's moderately Corvette friendly just go slow last eighth of a mile. Let's talk dogs, I took my Great Dane Chloe out and she found a new boyfriend in Wyatt the Wineries Great Dane. Met the owner very approachable and easy to talk too. The pourer excellent people skills and knowledgeable. The view very nice and very open. Plenty of room to move around. Now the wines. The reds are high quality and all have great flavor. My favorite of course is the Petit Verdot. The Kerus and Cab Franc excellent as well. Very nice place and definitely worth a visit. We found this winery while we were visiting Shenandoah National Park and it didn't disappoint! Yummy wines -- we bought bottles of the petit verdot and petit manseng -- and the COVID precautions were amazing. Outside seating area is fair size but the largest, lower portion is only one with provided shading is NOT ADA compliant. No ramps, the scary looking 9 steps have no hand rails.
