Something about the sprocket was bent. Ugh! Instead, I sprayed some sunblock on my arms neck and face, put on a hat, and took a walk. The beach is stunning. Flat, warm, sunny and not overly crowded for a July weekend. While the beach is not step free, they're trying hard to make it as accessible as possible with mats and ramps that can support a wheelchair. That's awesome. I did see a bunch of offroaders. Apparently, you can get a permit to bring your 4WD onto the beach. Pretty darned awesome, that is! What are those huge concrete structures? They're WWII-era bunkers! Yes, these huge installations were built to counter the fear of German U-boats invading Philadelphia via the Delaware River. A series of tunnels connects the bunkers but those aren't open to visitors. I had a great visit and managed to not get any burn! [Review 18196 overall - 113 in Delaware - 1718 of 2022.]

They tell you how big your umbrella can be, and don't allow dogs during the summer time. Having visited now I can see why there might be a need for some rules as there's just not a lot of space on this beach to share. The beach was okay, but nothing special and quite cramped. There is also a lot of wild growth there that can definitely contribute to your hay fever. I urge any of the five-star reviewers head out to California and visit any beach there. You will be amazed.

It was an absolute joy. I would've recommend this to anyone. Even the trails that were rocky that go outback through the woods we did on a street bike no problem. They seem to be very well-maintained trails. At one point you had the super long bridge that goes over a swampy area, which is really cool too. On the way up on the trail, we saw a turtle crossing the trail on the way back. We saw but I assume is the same turtle taking a hole with his back legs. I don't know why I spent my whole life going to the Jersey shore. You drive an extra hour. You could come down here and have a super nice beach that's not packed and the super nice trails that you can bicycle too.

When I saw that Brecknock Park had a wooden playground, I figured I had to check it out. The park is absolutely beautiful. There's lots of open space for throwing around a frisbee, jogging, picnicking, playing soccer - you name it! There's a small garden area to walk through that has the plants and trees labeled (always nice to get in a little outdoor education). The wooden playground was everything I'd hoped for - very well-maintained, lots of different jungle gym options, and I got in my obligatory swing set time on a nice, sturdy swing set. Whether you live in the area or are just passing through, I'd definitely recommend spending some time at this park. Wish I could have enjoyed it longer! I'll absolutely plan on stopping by again next time I'm visiting that area.

The boardwalk is exactly what you think of when you think of a boardwalk, a classic wooden walkway with beach views and storefronts. There's something nostalgic about it even if you've never been here before. The downside to going so early was that many places were still closed. We had hoped to grab coffee and stop in a few shops, but we ended up doing mostly window shopping and just enjoying the weather with our pup. I thought the Penny Lane mall was especially cute. It's tucked away just off the main strip with a cute arch announcing that it's there. We walked the little alley and found a shop called Sea Finds. We did a lot of window shopping there and honestly it's probably a good thing that it wasn't open yet because I would have gone inside and spent a small fortune. While I wish more things had been open during our walk, the boardwalk itself is really lovely. I can imagine how vibrant and bustling it must be in the heat of the day during summertime. There was some road work being done but other than that it was a peaceful experience and a nice stop overall.

When you have a December birthday, and can get comfortable weather that's not freezing, and be near a beach, and not have to travel on a cruise or to Florida it's a must on the to do list. Smaller boardwalk then Atlantic City, still worth the visit. I was lucky enough to stop an older couple, who ironically shared my special day, with getting married, so happy birthday to me, and congrats to them to take my picture in a few spots. The main boardwalk was fairly busy, nothing crazy, as parades I've been too in Buffalo, NY and surrounding suburbs. The weather to me was perfect, and not cold at all, for the parade. Parade well organized, police presence, for parade/ traffic control, full of Christmas cheer and patrons were friendly and cautious of others in attendance.
