Shannon Green the pain clinic nurse is the worst nurse ever.She thinks because she works at the prison she can treat her patients any kind of way it's wrong and she isn't right.Either you guys fire her or retrain her for that position because it's going to be a lot of lawsuits behind her.She treats patients that really need their medicine like drug addicts.If someone is in pain and that's the medicine that was prescribed to them she needs to give it to them.Not try to hold their medicine back and send them through loops to get it.She is overdoing it and that's not in a good way.She needs more training or she should just go back and work at the prison full time read more

On Feb. 21,2024 I was admitted to the Broadlawns Emergency Room with a head injury. I selected Broadlawns resulting from the horrible emergency room arrogant, rude, non caring bunch of liars I dealt with at Methodist Hospital in 2022. the nurses were very disrespectful to not just me but also my girlfriend while I was staying here for my seizures. they were late on my medication every time since I got here 3 days ago. they do have some good nurses here but very poor at communicating, they tried sending my girlfriend home at 2 am when the neurosurgeon told her to stay because when I have my grand mal seizure I stop breathing and wouldn't be able to get any help and they responded with we would deal with it I could have died and they wouldn't have known till they came in they only come in about 3 times a day very unprofessional the only good thing about this hospital is the bed read more

This place has made major changes. The dental clinic is brand new and state-of-the-art. Moreover, Dr. Haven't is an incredible dentist. When we took our 2 year old daughter to the emergency room, the staff was impressive. They are so kind. They even have both our girls little stuffed bears. Over the years I have not heard a lot of good things about Broadlawns. When my wonderful doctor, Bryan Folkers, said he was going there I could not believe it! Was I ever wrong! They are doing a lot of building. It is clean, new, and very nice. The professionals working there are friendly and helpful. It is easy to get to wherever you are going... like Lutheran. Not a huge maze like Mercy and Methodist. I would highly recommend this hospital. read more

I have had nothing but substandard care with any symptom being dismissed as mental illness.I was called a lier by behavioral health,pulmonary, and my primary care provider. When I obtained a copy of test results that verified my honesty,my PPC refused to look at them and walked out of the room.Despite Broadlawns billing as a place for mental wellness,my emotional and mental health have suffered terribly with this establishment. A provider who refused to schedule an appointment with me when I was ill,telling urgent care and E.R. Took my 6 year old son to the ER when he gashed the side of his head open. It took them over 4 hours to take him back to a room. We were told repeatedly that we were next but they kept calling other people ahead of us. Then it took them 1.5 hours in the room just to give him 3 stitches, the first "doctor" wanted a second opinion and had to get another doctor to look at it before deciding to do stitches. We will NEVER go here again. read more

Brought my cousin here for a dental appointment and at first glance the exterior and interior are very nice and new. You can tell they have put a lot of work into improving the atmosphere. The staff is very friendly and experienced. For those on a budget I would definitely recommend this facility for Dental. read more

I would rate -100 if I could. first and foremost I'm here for a broken ankle it's obviois that it's broken. I can't walk and it's turning purple and I'm losing feeling quickly. so I tell the lady at the front desk this and raise my concerns about why able bodied people are going ahead of me even though they showed up after me. this women had the audacity to suck her teeth at me and tell me that "we aren't first come first serve we are seeing people based on the severity of their ailment" listen. I know what ever Arizona tech community college you got your degree to answer phones and write stuff is not a medical degree. who the hell are you to tell me all of these able bodied walking people are worst off then a person in a wheel chair unable to walk? unless they where shot. there is no world I can see where my ailment isn't sever enough to be immediately seen. and apparently this isn't the first time this has happened. my father in law told me he came here with a broken leg and waited 6 hours for them to just wrap it up and over 4 days for a cast. unacceptable. if I lose my foot from the lack of oxygen as I told your front desk lady was happening you'll be hearing from my lawyer. no need to reply to this. No one likes going to the doctor! Or do they. I have tried to stay away from them for years! But I must admit I have had nothing but great things to say about the facilities and staff at Broadlawns Medical Center! My wife has type 1 diabetes, so I try to go to as many of her appointments as possible and the staff, nurses, and doctors here are all top notch! We love our family doc, he answer questions and takes time with us.. They also call and remind you of appointments which is nice! They also seem to generally care about the care you get, and also the emotional side of being in the doctors office! I still do not like going, but I feel way more comfortable now, knowing what I'm walking into! read more

Very disappointed. I'm new to the Des Moines area and I was looking for a new gynecologist. I called Broadlawns on July 7th and made an appointment for July 22nd. I arrived at about 1:30 just to be told they had all of my information (name, address, birthday(, but no appointment. Mind you, I'd never been here before. So how else would they have my information aside from when I called to make the appointment? I requested time off for work from this and it's not easy to see a doctor with my work schedule. A total waste of my time, and I was ultimately exposed to a bunch of sick people during a pandemic for absolutely no reason. I would give zero stars if I could. read more

When I was growing up, the things I heard about Broadlawns were always negative and made me scared to visit there. I fell into a scary health situation some years back, and as I was low income at the time and without insurance, Broadlawns was my only option. I am glad to say 5 years later, I was wrong about my perception of Broadlawns. I feel like I am always treated with care and respect, and their staff is top notch. I feel like with other hospitals and clinics in the metro, you become an afterthought and a dollar sign. Their focus is on finding a solution to what ails you, and they are never pushy or rude. Since I started going there, I have seen them update their walk in clinic, their emergency department and pharmacy. They are fairly up to date with the services and testing they offer. There are some specialties that they haven't come to offer yet, but they always seem to be expanding and making themselves better. read more

The Urgent Care was horrible! I was there for 3 and a half hours for absolutely no reason! Lisa Kirkpatrick was not informative at all. She came in my room and did not say who she was. She did a 2 second exam and just said "I will be right back" and left without telling me anything. Finally the nurse, who was super nice came in 1 hour later and explained what was going on. I don't live in Iowa I just stopped here for care while visiting. Never again will I use the Urgent Care. I could have spent 3 hours at an actual ER and got some real help. If you can avoid seeing Lisa you should because she is not a good PA and should not be in this career with such a bad attitude. However, my nurse was very attentive and kind. She agreed that it was wrong what Lisa Kirkpatrick did and she recommended that I go somewhere else for better care so that's what I did and I got help. read more

Was treated with compassion and respect and the most thorough care I have ever experienced. Every person, starting with the reception employees was kind and professional. Makes you wonder now a days if they actually want to treat people or judge people. As I have long history of kidney stones and obviously when you get one you don't wait and plan out a doctor visit. But when you ask them to do something and try to help get it out they choose to just name off your pain meds that you have taken in 4 years and not listen and tell you that you are free to go. But yet offer you pain meds when you told them bluntly that you dont want any you just want to fugue out why its not coming out. Hmmm yeah that some great docs you have running your ER. On top of it I didnt speak to a single person for an hour and half until the "doctor" came in to tell me my medication list. Yup great job broadlawns read more

I brought my brother in for medical help, he waited thirty minutes and once he saw them they just told him to leave. Absolutely zero help if you want to actually help people by bringing them in you cannot trust these people to actually do as they say and complete an entire medical evaluation. My husband and I chose to start going to Broadlawns for medical care several years ago, because we felt that we got better care there than at Mercy or Methodist. For a while it was wonderful. Then, last November, my husband went to the emergency room, not feeling well. Although, they did not have a lot of traffic, they held us in the emergency room for eight hours even though they had told us that he seemed okay and he had been feeling good for hours. Even one of the nurses said she didn't understand why. We recently had to go to the emergency room again for my husband who was dizzy and vomiting. We were held in that emergency room for eleven and a half hours! All they did was take blood and do a cat scan that didn't take that long. Every time the nurse, named Kyle, came in, he would say that he would be back in a half hour and he wouldn't come back for an hour and a half and otherwise there was no communication. The doctor stopped in twice and said little. When they were finally ready to release my husband, the same nurse said he would be right back to take out the IV. He came back after another hour, but only after we complained twice. I feel like they were holding us there to get more insurance both times. Every time I left the room, all I saw was employees sitting around talking. Nobody seemed to have any work to do. I'm angry and disappointed. I don't think I want to ever go to Broadlawns again. read more

What ever you do, be careful of Dr. Timothy Rankin. Left my sister for almost 2 weeks with no surgery to set a seriously broken leg. I guess his schedule was so busy??? In talking to her I had a very bad gut feeling and after 11 days of them doing nothing I begged her to go to another hospital after she fell again. By now the leg is more swollen. Come to find out she developed a blood clot in the leg which I predicted and was my urgency for her to go to a more qualified Doctor. Apparently the new Doctors thought it was an emergency because surgery was performed next day after overnight stay, tests and getting some of the swelling down. She is doing better now and hopefully going home today. Not out of the woods yet with the blood clot so I hope Dr. Timothy Rankin has his malpractice insurance up to date BECAUSE if anything happens to her from this blood clot I'm coming after you with a lawsuit! SHAME on you for your treatment or lack there of for her. What is the matter with you? What is the Hippocratic oath....DO NO HARM!!! Flat out, they killed my mother. Treated her for c-diff colitis, and didn't account for her decreased kidney function and gave her way too much IV vancomycin. Let me put it this way, I outweighed my mother by 100 lbs, have healthy kidneys, and when I was treated for a flesh eating bacteria, they gave me HALF of what they gave her. When they put her into a coma and shelled out her kidneys, they tried to deny it even though her kidney output was next to nil, she swelled up like a baloon and what urine *was* in her cath bag was mahogany brown. When I called the doctor out, the Cover Your A** started. The doctor blamed everyone and everything but himself. When standard treatment didn't wake her from the coma, they wanted to set her up in a chair, turn the TV up full blast, scream at her and "thump her chest" to get her to wake up. The doctor wouldn't let her even go to hospice and die peacefully until I threatened to sue the hospital and the doctor both personally and professionally. Oh, and before the coma they tried to send her home TWICE, even though she couldn't even stand under her own power, something she did just fine before Broadlawns sank their talons into her. read more
