Ok let me start with the bad, they were out of a lot of stuff like chicken fried steak (which is what I wanted) chimichunga (which is what Bobbie wanted) onion rings and other things. We did pick other items but it didn't start good. I got the chili rellenos which were house made with a good flavor while Bobbie got a beef burrito also good flavor but a bit dry so she added salsa to it which helped. The service was good and prompt so that was good. Inside is smallish but well kept and clean. Overall it was good but not sure where all the 5 star ratings came from. read more

Nice little cafe. Enroute back from Big Bend to El Paso, you will most likely pass the unassuming town of Van Horn. If you're in a mood for a bite, be confident that the food and service at Broadway Cafe is pretty darn good. It's not a big space, but the cafe next to the Laundromat is clean and simple. I ordered the combination plate that came with a side taco (ground beef), choice if enchilada, rice, refried beans, and pork green chile. It was very good Liz enjoyed her enchilada plate - the enchiladas have a cheesy hatch flavor. Noah had a kids taco plate which as almost as big as my combination plate. I'm not sure where to start with Broadway Cafe..... the place is small and full of locals. We were greeted with a smile by friendly staff but after that it felt awkward. Service was extremely slow. The tacos were really good! The enchiladas were hard and overcooked; couldn't cut it with a fork, let alone a knife. Brought the enchiladas to the server's attention and she had an attitude like why are you telling me this. The rice and beans were meh, not much flavor. There was no bathroom in the restaurant. You had to get a key and go next door into the laundromat; very strange! Overall, not a great experience. I wouldn't not go back. read more

Today we had the chicken fried steak with onion rings. Really good. In the past I really liked the red beef enchiladas. I have also had the bacon cheeseburger and it is one of the best around. The service is always friendly and fast. read more

A nice spot off highway serving American and Mexican food. We had an enchilada plate and a BBQ brisket sandwich. The Mexican was of course fantastic, the brisket was chopped uo instead of sliced but it hit the spot. read more

Stopped here off I-10 looking for a meal. We ordered green enchiladas and chile rellenos (and asked for those to be covered in green sauce too). The food was fantastic--the green sauce is absolutely phenomenal! We asked the waitress how the sauce was made and she confessed that the cook won't share her recipe. Heck, I wouldn't either. It tastes like somebody's family recipe that they're keeping under lock and key. Also, we noted the refried beans were very good. They tasted fresh, not like they had been sitting in a pot for days. Don't be turned off by the appearance of Van Horn. It's a hard-scrabble looking town that must have seen better days. The restaurant itself is humble, but very clean, sharing a building with a laundromat. That being said, I appreciate small, locally owned businesses as opposed to chains. Broadway Cafe appears to have a lot of business from travelers as well as locals, and does a respectable amount of carry out and drive-thru orders. When I see locals eating somewhere (and they all seem to know each other), I know I've found a gem. read more

This is a great, little family owned restaurant having Seafood, American and Mexican food. We ate here while traveling from Kerrville to Las Cruces. Finally, a Mexican restaurant like the ones we had in LC when we lived there. Delicious homemade salsa and chips with no cilantro in sight. While the rellanos were not smothered in green chile sauce like in NM, I found I perferred the combination of crispy coating and plenty of flavor from the cheese and chiles of them. I've been wanting to try this place since people kept raving about it, and I'm glad I was in Van Horn recently to do so. The prices are reasonable. People eating there were raving about the green Chile chicken enchiladas, which I wish I had ordered. I ordered a cheese enchilada, a beef brisket taco, and some rice and beans. Because that was lunch and dinner, I was still hungry, so I ordered a flour tortilla and pecan pie and ice cream. That finally did the trick.:) I ordered off menu and the entire meal was roughly $17 which I thought wasn't bad including a drink. I think next time though I will order the green Chile chicken enchiladas because that's what is popular. The woman who ordered it said her brother-in-law was Mexican so she had high standards. Walked in the front door and was surprised with a very nice looking dining area. They had real dining room tables and chairs, checkerboard tile floors and a really nice lunch counter. The service was excellent and I'm glad they let me sub the fries for a small salad. I had no idea it came with rice. My son loved his nachos. The restrooms were next door in a super clean laundry mat. Only thing missing was paper towels to dry your hands. They had That 70's show on the tv and I laughed a lot. It was just a very pleasant stop for lunch on our 12 hour drive. Oh and have cash because they charge extra for credit. I'm glad I had cash. read more

There for about 10 minutes before order was taken (we did receive chips salsa and water) we ordered and it was a a full 30 minutes or more before we received our food. Brisket tacos were tasty with beans and rice. Green chili enchiladas were tasty, but let's be real..... that IS NOT green chili. It was a light green cheese sauce. Not what we wanted, but again flavor was good. Only 3 stars because of the wait and the complete detachment of staff. As we left there was not even a goodbye as the employees were on their phones. We stopped in Van Horn on the way back from Mexico, and decided to try this place for dinner! I was a little skeptical about it at first, but left with no regrets and a great experience. The waitress was incredibly kind and quick to take our orders & get our drinks. As a vegetarian, it's usually hard to find places that will accommodate to this but Broadway did without hesitation- and the food was delicious. It came out very quickly and fresh. We ordered quesadillas and taco salad, both were tasty and fulfilling. We ordered the apple pie and ice cream for dessert and it was to die for. I would have supersized it if I could have LOL. The previous night, we stayed in a five star hotel in Mexico that had a restaurant inside and the food & service were just awful. Broadway is just a tiny diner and is ten times better than that place by a long shot. I would strongly recommend coming here and if I'm ever in the area I'll definitely be back! read more
