Driving through the small town of Van Horn and decided to try Broadway Cafe. We had brisket burritos and a bean and cheese with bacon burrito. My husband and I cut them in half to share. The food was very good although I'm use to tacos and they are not called that here, they are called burritos. Tortillas were homemade, but as big as a plate. Waitresses are very nice and all the locals who walked in all knew each other, even the owner came out to say hi. Kind of like the movies. Really nice humble place. I don't think they had a restroom though. All together we had 3 burritos, my husband ended ordering another brisket taco with onions, peppers and tomatoes because it was so good. Coffee was delicious and they even had vanilla cream. We paid around $40, not too bad. If you're ever passing by the town of Van Horn be sure to stop by for lunch. read more

Food was excellent! We got takeout to take to our hotel. Green chicken enchiladas and chicken picado were so good, we cleaned our plates. Chips are thin, and salsa has a kick. Service was kind. Inside of restaurant is clean and modern. read more

Texas high school football fans can attest to the fact that eating out in the opponent's hometown can be sketchy. However, The Broadway Cafe was a win-win situation. The cafe was small, but exceptionally clean. We were welcomed by friendly, fast service and enjoyed talking with our waiter. Homemade (very hot) chile & chips were delicious. My flautas were nice and crispy, but would have been better with some cabbage, chile, and white sauce. Tried my granddaughter's cheese enchiladas and wished I would have gone with that. Our family group of 5 were pleased to find that the food was more Tex-Mex than NM-Mex, iykyk. Definitely will return if we find ourselves in Van Horn again. read more

Not many options in Van Horn. Glad we stopped at the Broadway Cafe. Small and pristine place. Friendly people. Menu centered mostly around Mexican food, burgers and a few fried items. Also have a kids menu. Food came out steaming hot, which is soooo rare these days. Enjoyed the 3 chicken enchiladas with a creamy green sauce. Good rice and beans. Chicken flauta plate was tasty. Poor service, We waited over 30 min due to two other tables got served before us who showed up after we did. Manager was more concerned with drive thru customers before dine in. An unexpected gem of a find. An unassuming restaurant , that was filled with locals eating a variety of plates of food that looked delicious. i unfortunately had to get my food to go. The cheese enchilada with green sauce was so fresh and tasty and the bean and cheese burrito was really terrific. The menu was pretty big,the service was quick and the prices very reasonable. Yummy :) The food here is incredibly good! Since we moved this year to the Van Horn, Tx area we've been delighted with the food at Broadway Cafe. This family operated restaurant is definitely worth stopping. The food is excellent! The ambiance is a small café or diner with a black and white tile floor. The service has been consistently really nice, capable, and friendly. The recipes are terrific! The owner/operator has her own recipes for sauces, and she makes an excellent Green enchilada sauce, that is really more of a cream sauce with green tomatillo type of spice in it, this is usually served with chicken enchiladas. One can order the enchiladas flat instead of rolled, thereby having more sauce ratio to the enchiladas! Fun! This sauce is some of the best that I've had. It is not a stereotypical green colored tomatillo blend sauce. It is a cream sauce with green spice in it. It's very,very delicious. Also, the tacos are wonderful, they fry the shells to order (soft, medium, hard). I would recommend to order the shells medium, this gives a lovely firm but chewy consistency. The flavor of the tacos is very tasty, and it is reminiscent of the flavor of the old Manuel's Restaurant puffy tacos in Odessa, Texas (for those who can recall those lovely gems). The style of Mexican food at this restaurant is more West Texas Mexican food, it is not El Paso Mexican food, and is it not necessarily San Antonio Mexican food. It has a distinctive flavor that is Tex-Mex with some love going into the food. This place is at the top of this kind of food category. The chili-con-queso is wonderful, it has a lot of nice spice in it in combination with really good cheese, it is not too soupy, in a sense that it is made from a base of canned soup or thickened with flour, no it is actually melted American cheese with spices in it. They make their own chips, and they are wonderful! The tea is really good, it is fresh and crisp tasting, and that is a fabulous complement to the food, especially if one orders the half-and -half, sweet and unsweet iced tea to pair with the spicy food. I wish I could give them more stars for the food because it is some of the best Mexican food, and it is consistently good across their entire menu, their Chili Verde is amazing and nice and spicy, but not too spicy with a lot of flavor. The red sauce is really good, I haven't even been able to get to the rest of the menu when I go in because I have my favorites now, and we are always getting the chicken enchiladas with the green sauce, and the tacos. And we are very happy campers to eat here. The tacos are often very juicy, some of that is the natural juice coming from the meat, in combination with the fried tortilla shell, and with the tomatoes, but it's nice and clean juice. It's not heavy and doesn't coat the mouth with an aftertaste. The food is so good, and they give back to the community which is a way that they can show their heart. So if one is traveling on I-10, stop in and try Broadway Café, and have a great glass of iced tea, with some homemade chips, and chili-con-queso, and try some of their tacos and their green chicken enchiladas. If you are looking for a clean, friendly, "americanized" Mexican food place while on the road, this is the place. Service is warm and fast, the chicken tacos were full of shredded chicken, lettuce was fresh and crunchy, the corn tortilla was fresh and maybe grilled a little to add a slight crunch but still be soft, refried beans and rice were standard. Crunchy, fresh tortilla chips were served immediately with a mild (to me) salsa. If you like a good immune-boosting nose-sweat...ask for their hotter homemade salsa and either pour it on your tacos or mix with their mild salsa for a good kick. read more
