Herring's House Park is a City of Seattle park in the Port of Seattle providing both paved and…read moredirt/gravel walking paths to visitors. Along the paths are grassy areas, abundant vegetation harboring many different birds, benches to sit and watch the park/Duwamish River, and picnic areas. The park immediately borders Terminal 107 Park, which is located just south of Herring's House Park, and the Duwamish River/Waterway which abuts the park's east side. I came here a couple times earlier this month, the first time a bit by accident. I was planning on going to Terminal 107 Park and did, reached some paved paths and wondered if the paths were part of the same park. Turns out they are not, the paved paths are part of Herring's House Park. But it took me a second day of adventuring here to figure that out. Each park has its own parking lot, the sign for Herring's House Park is more tucked away, something to keep in mind if driving here. The park is also easily accessible via foot or bicycle via the Duwamish Trail. Walking the trails in the morning was a treat. I saw different water birds out and fishing about. At the very northern edge of the park the West Seattle Bridge and the Space Needle are visible in the distance. Ships loaded with cargo and smaller boats made their way through the Duwamish Waterway, a fun sight to watch. I came both times in the morning when the tide was nearer low tide than hide tide and crossing the small water channel carrying water from the bog area to the Duwamish Waterway was not too dangerous. An absolutely gorgeous location on a clear day. When I drove past more recently on Wednesday the 16th of September 2020 I noticed the park was closed, so I checked it out online and the park was closed due to the hazardous air quality from the smoke of the Washington State wildfires. The park has since reopened again.

Herring's House is a great little park to walk around. It doesn't offer you any wide open vistas, or hiking trails. But it does have lots of beautiful scenery, places to picnic, and an osprey nest on site. So, if you have any pets or small children you want to dispose of, just rub a little fish oil on them and leave them near the back of the park. (Kidding!) If you're looking for an overlooked beautiful place to chill out when its warm, head here. The parking lot is right next to the entrance to the Grey Line facility.

This space is a connection to culture and heritage. If someone from the Philippines is feeling homesick, they should be able to come to this space as a place of comfort. Unfortunately, it's a park that has been left unchecked for the past 10 years. The time capsule and metal plaques were stolen. I know the elders and descendants are frustrated with these disgraceful and disrespectful acts. I hope this park will be restored to a welcoming, clean, and safe environment again. I know the Filipino and Beacon Hill communities would want this. I know visitors from out of town would want this too. I took a direct flight from Sea-Tac Airport to Ninoy Aquino International Airport recently. Visiting Rizal Park in Manila was on my itinerary. Thousands of people were at the park. I had never experienced anything like it. The monument was guarded and barricaded. The open space was beautifully landscaped. If I can fly to Manila and feel good about visiting Rizal Park, I should feel good about visiting this park in my hometown too. This park has history with the Filipino community and I'm confident that with sincere investments and thoughtful attention it will flourish again.

I immediately met two very friendly people, one of whom was a pet sitter and was with several lovely pups. I had zero issues with either of the people or any of the dogs present. In fact, this lady was so kind when the incident occurred - beyond helpful and wonderful. Within five minutes of being there, my older dog, who is just under 8 yrs old, slipped on gravel and presumably incurred a spinal injury. Her hind legs were temporarily paralyzed, she was screaming in pain, and we had to see an emergency immediately. As I was leaving, this incredibly kind woman mentioned that she saw a similar thing happen to a GSD within a week prior to it happening to my dog. Her prognosis is up in the air. If she needs surgery, I can't afford $10k+ and have no idea if she will make it. It's too early to tell. Ironically, the pet sitter was commenting on how agile my girl is for her age within the minute leading up to this incident. I never would've considered that gravel would be such a risk for potential spinal injury/paralysis of larger dogs, but dog parents beware: DOGS RUNNING IN GRAVEL CAN CAUSE SEVERE AND LIFE THREATENING INJURIES! Be cautious when choosing where to let your babies get their zoomies out. I wish I had known better. Seeing her like this is heartbreaking, and for ~5 minutes of fun? I cannot recommend this park on that basis alone.

He was physically hurt and the behaviour of the dogs was extremely out of what is acceptable. During the attack I confronted the dogs, beat them off and helped my pup out of the situation. Please let me know what I can do. At the time I did not have my phone otherwise I would have pics of the dogs and owner. I intend to go back and if they are there again I will get pics of the owner, dogs and anything else that can keep them out of the park. Again, this was an attack. I do understand dogs will be dogs but these huskies are unacceptable.

Thomas Street Mini Park was practically across from my old digs on Bellevue Ave, but I never really spent anytime there. Just passing through. This park is small, but beautiful. It is an urban park surrounded by apartment buildings. This is a nice park to play with your dogs or get a sun tan when it is sunny out. The park has huge hilly and grassy mounds which makes sunning here ideal. There is a bench and some seating areas here which make it a good spot for a meal outside. It has also got some beautiful tall trees at the edge of the park. While it is a small park, it is great for what it is intended to be which is an urban respite. It gives the community a place to retreat to when they inevitably get stir crazy from being in their apartments too long.

Maybe in the summertime this is possible, but it's so steep that in winter or rainy season, it's really not a great idea to try to scale up to the walking path of this park. Maybe I missed a walkway, but it seemed like there wasn't one. You can access the park from the church parking lot. It's very obvious once you get there. Once on the trail, there's some really nice paved walkway down in the thicket, and there's even a bridge. The paved area quickly turns into a dirt path but it's still walkable for a ways. Definitely a cute secluded little trail for a bit if you're already in the area, but I don't think I'll be making a point to come over here, passing up Volunteer, which is very nearby... There were at least 2 camps set up off the trail as well, which feels a little uneasy when you're down there by yourself. I hope overall this bit of land gets some more attention, both by the city in making it more walkable, and by people walking it and making it feel like a legitimate intentional place to go. Could be really nice and calm spot among all the chaos of that particular area (I-5). I hope the trail from below is better developed bc that would be a great route from the I-5 dog park, to the park and church, and up into the neighborhood and over to volunteer. It would also be very convenient for me to take my dog there since it's right by my apartment, closer than any other parks or green areas. ;) I'm giving it a 3 star bc I feel like it's well kept considering the size and popularity of this park. But it could use some work to make it a accessible park. The non-paved trails are very steep and landslidey. But the paved/bridge trails were very nice. There were also a lot of birds around, which was pleasant to see they had a good lush spot. We saw a wood pecker. You can see that beautiful/odd castle home (?) from the trail too, which is kind of interesting to see from that side.

We took our son to burn off some energy and let him roam around. They've got a nice little playground that's perfect for toddlers and older-aged kids. They've also got a nice picnic area for nicer weather. Another thing I thought was pretty cool - they've got some workout equipment here! Nothing fancy, but I'm sure somebody could get some use out of it. Definitely think that's something more parks should be doing. If you walk the whole entire park, you'll find that there is a community garden here. There was even a rooster roaming through it? That threw me off, LOL. Such a great idea, though! They've also got a small composting area with educational bits about composting. Cool park for sure! Definitely recommend stopping in even if it's just for a stroll.

It's a…read morecombined space for dogs of any size, so there isn't a small dog area like some other parks I've seen. The grass is turf grass and there's poop bags and water for the dogs. For the most part, we haven't run into any issues bringing our senior pup here (he's a chihuahua beagle mix) and he does well meeting all the other dogs and people. Over summer - the dog park can get pretty smelly. I think it's from those hose/water run off but there have been some days where it smelled kind of gross so we left. Also, always watch your pup around the drinking bowl and run the water to make sure it's fresh and not stagnant or contaminated! Unfortunately, the last time we took our pup, he drank from the drinking bowl before we could get to him and a few days later he got extremely sick.

This set up reminds me of the one by Amazon, just a lot larger while still being only a mid to small sized dog park. Dog parks come in so many sizes. Every time I stop by there are many people with their dogs. My dog always has a good time playing. I like that this place isn't so large that my dog runs off in places I can't see. I can see my dog from anywhere in here with plenty of running room for all the pets and their owners. Nice job on this one. Probably the best dog park in the area based on size, offerings, and cleanliness. There isn't a bunch of dirt or gravel like many of the dog parks so your dog will stay relatively clean. Huge bonus in my opinion. I avoid many parks because my dog immediately gets so dirty.

I arrived around 7:30 a.m. today, Sunday 7 May 2023, and vendors as part of the Sunday market had started setting up their tents on 22nd Avenue Northwest. There is no designated parking area for the park, so I went with street parking closer to the Mighty-O Donuts on Northwest Market Street (about a 0.2 mile walk). The park has various sculptures, a mural, and stones with engravings dedicated to Seattle's sister city, Bergen, Norway, and the role of Scandinavians in the history of the Seattle area. The park is roughly in the shape of a quadrilateral and has a large paved open space with a long bench on one side where one can sit and rest. I appreciated the informational placard at the base of the mural that provided some of the historical/cultural significance it conveyed. As for the name of the park, Bergen is my Norwegian hometown so I am happy. I also like it considering I have encountered a number of people in my life experience who have thought Oslo is the only urban center in Norway... Per fifth-generation law, I still have land rights in Norway. A return or go back for me to Bergen or the land of my ancestors (fjordlands and further north) would be an interesting change of pace. Bergen Place here in Ballard is a fun place to go and get the creative juices (both reflective and forward mapping) going.
