Park Naked Parked…read morehere while visiting DT Portland as it was downtown adjacent and we don't mind walking. The Good: *As stated above, it was a good location near the heart of DT Portland and everything was just a short 5-10min walk away. *Up front pricing (this will be evident why this is important later) *We liked the design of the panic garage, as it was easy and hassle-free, unlike a lot of these modern garages that are waaayyyyyy too complicated for their own good. The Meh: *$5/hr w/ a max of $50/all-day. While not terrible, there were cheaper parking garages around but it is what it is. Fwiw, these prices are more expensive than parking in SF, so put that in your pipe and smoke it. The Ugly: *We have friends in the area, and they warned us of "predatory parking garages" that don't state their prices before entering. So, if you don't see a price then do not enter or prepare to pay the consequences. Conclusion: Not the worst place to park, but there's better options.

Parking at this location is predatory at best. Upon entering the garage, there is no signage…read moreindicating any such hourly or flat rate for parking. I parked here for 9 hours and paid $45- this is a Boston rate in a city far smaller. The garage was nowhere near full, but if the price were displayed prior to entering, business would likely drop off from the few that park here. There's ample parking nearby, so why not lower the rate to keep it competitive? If you set a day rate of $20/day I would think there would be far more business than presently. Recommendations: -Be transparent and display your rates BEFORE people enter. Failing to do so is a predatory tactic. -Lower your rates so people would actually park here, especially if you plan to display rates. The garage is 7 levels and most of them are empty during peak morning hours. -Consider a day/flat rate pricing. -If you are going for hourly, tell me what amount it caps at if at all.

The best thing about this garage is that it is very close to Portland Stage. And that's why I made…read morethe mistake of parking there. We were there today, a Sunday, for a stage matinee, and it was pretty chilly, so I didn't bother looking for street parking. Street parking isn't exactly abundant, but if I had searched I could have found something reasonably close. But I was lazy. The cost of my laziness was $16, for two hours and 24 minutes of parking. Ouch! That is the main reason for my negative review. Not only does it cost way more than street parking, it appears to be well above the going rate for private lots. One interesting point about the place is the payment system. Put a credit card into the reader at the entrance, and put the same card in to leave. That leads to another complaint about the place: the card reader is _slow_, and the screen instructions aren't well designed. Thinking that it must have been done authorizing the card, and no message saying to wait, I removed my card, only to get a message telling me to put the card back. The only progress message was a "remove card" message when the transaction _finally_ completed. Cash is not allowed; it's credit card or go away. The garage itself seems decent enough. I couldn't find the stairs, so I don't know whether they were clean or filthy. Instead I walked down the ramp. It wasn't icy, but the weather wasn't that cold. There were stripes of feathers and bird droppings under some cross structures near the entrance. Aisles are wide enough for easy access. I noticed that a lot of spaces were marked as reserved for hotel guests. So maybe the really high prices are meant to keep spaces available for hotel guests - or maybe to gouge unsuspecting hotel guests, and theater guests who don't look for a better price.

It took 20 minutes to get out of this garage after the State Theater show. The problem wasn't even…read morethe number of cars. Multiple cars were getting stuck at the gate for some reason. It just wouldn't open for them. Cars behind were beeping. No one knew what to do. We will never park here again!
