Going through my messages and noticed a funny one from a Tony N threatening to take legal action. Bless his heart. He's just frustrated that I called his shop out on his scamming tactics after they failed my smog test intentionally. I had driven by this business many times recently and it always had a publicly-posted price of $40. When I took my 2008 mid-size SUV in today to be smogged, I was quoted a price of $60. When I mentioned the posted price, the tech told me the owner had "taken it down," but he offered me $10 off, adding that SUVs were charged $10 more. I've owned this vehicle for 14 years and have never been charged extra for it being an SUV. The tech only completed the visual and functional inspections, and never tested my exhaust emissions or utilized the dynamometer or testing equipment. I passed and got the cert, but wondered why I was charged "full price" when no equipment (other than a flashlight & mirror were used. Felt cheated but that's probably how these places operate. read more

I needed to get my truck smogged, and finally had a free Saturday afternoon. I discovered my usual smog place and another one nearby both closed at 1:00 (too late...). A big chain repair place near me didn't have a tech, and the next closest one said I could leave the truck for the afternoon, and they'd try to get to it by 6:00. Not cool. My husband found Broadway online (http://www.testonly.net). I called, they were open, and near home (right across from Thornton's Irish Pub). They said to come after 2:00. I did, and was the only customer there. The place is small, and not impressive to look at. But the guy running (the owner, I think) it was very nice. There was no problem fitting my large pick-up in the single wide service bay. I've had a few places who just could not deal with a 4-door, long-bed, full-size truck at all, and a few others who tried, and really had trouble getting it done. The waiting room is tiny and dumpy, with a little couch and a calendar on the wall. But there is a big salt-water fish tank that is obviously the owner's pride and joy. When I asked about it he told me about some of the interesting animals in it. All the fish were beautiful and well cared for. There was an open Wifi connection, but I could not seem to get anything through it on my iPod Touch. He had me in and out in about 15 minutes. He explained the results, too (passed, but one value was higher than expected). Now I have the rest of my Saturday free. Yay! I'll definitely use this place again. read more

It's a small kinda hole in the wall place. There was only one guy there and he was pretty nice. I took in my 95 Civic and I had to go to a STAR certified place. I had called the other location they have in Bancroft, spoke to who I think is the owner of all three places and he priced me at $50. When I arrived, the man here told me $65, $55 with a coupon online, and I told him the guy on Bancroft said to charge me $50. All he said was "ok". A man arrived later and he told him $50 and a woman came later and he told her $65, finally $60. She overheard that the other guy was gonna pay $50, so I would say to all the ladies out there, don't let him over charge you! My car didn't pass so I took it to a shop to get "fixed". They changed the cadillac converter? and I brought it back to be re-tested for free and it passed. read more

My experience over all was great. This is the third time I used this smog check location. I went on a Saturday around 11AM, there was no wait and my smog check was finished in under 20 minutes. I also like that this is a family owned company plus the staff was also friendly (one older gentlemen working). My smog check was under $50 for my 2003 car. So I have never had to have a car smog'd. I happened by this place Because it had the star certification it caught my eye. Being female you are always Leary of being taken advantage of when it's something new. He was so kind and understanding answered all my questions. You sit right next to your car so you can see all he is doing. And, he only charged me $40 to smog and electronically send the dmv my certificate as well as have me a copy. I have 2 Honda Civics a 95 and a 2008 SI. I took the 95 there and the gentleman smogged it and my experience was great. I took the 2008 SI there and left very disappointed; he told me to open the hood for a visual inspection and he looked around with the flashlight for 30 seconds before coming to an conclusion that my car didn't have the factory engine in it. Everything was complete from the factory untouched; stock air filter everything. And he says "I don't feel comfortable doing this plus your exhaust is loud like you did something to it" I will never go back there! Very fast service and economical. For many years I had been going to Dekra on Greenfield but they closed and was in need of a new place to smog my vehicle. I came here and was in and out quick. That to me was a huge plus and beside it was only $40 to smog my vehicle, another huge plus for me. The tech didn't talk much but that's ok I was not there for a conversation. I am not sure but I think if your vehicle fails smog you would have to pay them another $40 to re smog it. With Dekra I wouldn't have to pay again. But all in all I was happy customer. read more

I came here to get a smog test and the person working there said it would be an hour wait and then ignored me and kept working. I stood there and waited patiently for him to finish and he turned to me and repeated "It will be at least an hour you can go wait over there somewhere". I asked if I could make an appointment or come back another time and he just said "NO!" and walked away. I told him I would go somewhere else and left. Rude. I went down the street to the El Cajon Auto Registration Smog Center at the 76 gas station on 2nd street and Naranca and they were very polite and I was in and out in 10 minutes- easy!
