They have been cancelling performances by a number of tribute bands and magic shows up to this point. It is a historic (1919) burlesque venue. Today the theater features much of it's vintage look having retained many of it's classic elements, albeit worn. Pre-Covid-19 the theater hosted comedy acts, live concerts and some plays. Additionally they screen international small budget and silent feature productions. Seating available includes: rear mezzanine, front mezzanine and orchestra. The theater hosts a lot of tribute bands for such artists as the Cars, John Mellencamp, and Crosby, Stills and Nash. Depending on which direction the coronavirus takes, Separate Ways. a tribute band for the rock group "Journey" will play September 19, 2020. I am personally looking forward to hearing the music of "Journey" Tickets are usually $25 dollars to hear the tribute bands play.

Friends of mine know I'm a big Beatles fan and a couple years ago they bought us tickets to see Beatlemania here at Darress Theatre. The show was absolutely great. And we all had a wonderful time...including the kids all getting autographs from the 'Beatles'. This historic little theater used to be a vaudeville theater and has been around since 1919. The place is really cute, but you aren't going to get full-fledged concerts here. What you will get are a lot of small shows, movies (especially old movies-check out a screening of the original King Kong in April 2013), comediens, local talent, and a great place to have fundraisers. I really love this little place and I hope they keep it going for a long time. Yeah, it isn't a real modern theater and it could use some reservations, but it has class and personality...

My partner was playing in a band tonight- when we walked in to soundcheck an unfriendly woman…read morepointed at me and said 'if she's not in the band she needs to pay to be here'. He asked if there were any guest list spots and we were denied, so he paid full price admission for me to be there. This made a bad first impression of how this place treats artists- not only is he bringing a lot of people out to your venue but I always support the venue anyway by getting food and drinks, though I felt less inspired to at this place. The band wasn't given any drink tickets or complimentary food and denied any guest spots (If you can guess they also weren't paid super well). I'm also a performing musician and I've never encountered this in a venue before. If a manager reads this I highly suggest you update your policy. I understand that it's a business but you can throw musicians a couple of thoughtful bones (like everyone else does), it sends a nice message. Also the same woman was working behind the bar and either talking to her friends or texting most of the time she was working, not looking out for people who wanted to order.

interesting concert venue / native american sweat lodge…read more before i heard wavves were playing here, i'd never heard of the place. there's no sign outside but it's located right next to a mexican restaurant. the entire basement space is blanketed in marker and a little spray paint here and there. it's safe to assume that most of the writers are suffering from tourettes. it gets hot in here. really, really hot. first the people start sweating, and eventually the walls start to sweat. once the music is playing, and everyone starts going crazy, there are several people who helicopter cold open water bottles around. it's a crude, yet efficient cooling system and it gets the job done. the only downside is when you're leaving the venue and walking to your car, you're covered in water and will get strange looks from passersby. the crowd is fun here, more so than new york crowds. they don't seem to book many bands i'm interested in, though. it seems like it's mostly punk stuff. the place is all ages, and i'm pretty sure the average age of most concertgoers here is around 20, and that means no alcohol is served. there's a bar that's close, though, the two jakes or something, and they have really cheap beer. i liked the sign telling people not to use drugs or face an arrest from undercover cops. we joked that people probably thought *i* was one of them because, besides a couple of the bands, i was one of the older people there. would definitely go back if someone i liked was playing there, but would probably wear older clothes next time. i had footprints all over my jeans and my favorite pair of clae sneakers looked really unhappy at the end of the night. 8 ^( by the way, wavves are/were terrible and should be avoided at all costs.

I mostly go to the Wellmont for concerts, but it's a good venue for stand-up also. My husband and I were seated in upper balcony. The audio is usually always good there, so no matter where you sit you catch everything. Photography and videotaping were prohibited for this specific show. There were signs posted on every door to the theater, so it was clear. Ban on these aren't always the case, but - if you are familiar with Bobby Lee, then you probably can imagine why. If you were at this Bobby Lee show - then you for sure know why! Haha As always and as I wrote in my past review of the Wellmont Theater: Everybody working the house - from security to ushers to concessions - are always friendly and great to people. That makes a difference for everyone. That's one aspect of Wellmont that makes seeing an act there special. It's a Live Nation venue, but it still feels like a local spot (in my opinion).

Lat nights performance with Steve Earle (recently inducted into the Grand Ole Opry) celebrating his 50 year career with Storyteller format. Opening was Zandi Holup an emerging artist with a bright future. The volunteers go out of their way to make the patrons feel comfortable always a pleasure to chat with. Saw the Gorilla Biscuits / American Nightmare / Kill Your Idols / Desperate…read moreMeasures show last night in the Black Box part of the Williams Center, and it was an excellent time. I wish this venue was closer to me, I'd be there for every hardcore show they put on. For this show there was no barricade; I don't know if that varies from one show to another, but I was happy to see the lack of a barrier when we walked in. The security was just how you want them to be at this kind of show: present and there if needed, but not getting in anyone's way or preventing people from dancing or stagediving. There are two bars in the main area of the Black Box, one at the back, one on the side. And then merch was sold upstairs, and there's another bar there. Snack machines, and candy is also sold at at least one of the bars. I paid $7 for a 12 oz. can of Miller Lite or $9 for Corona, I'm not sure what size that was, 11 or 12 oz. I guess, one of those weird tall, skinny cans. The sound quality here is excellent. They had some lights going on during the bands' sets, but nothing too showy or intrusive. Really, just all around top-quality in terms of sound, stage setup, production. All the employees I encountered were very friendly. This was a pretty big crowd; I don't know if it was sold out or not, but the place was packed by the time AN went on. Sometimes staff can be unpleasant or just generally serious, handling this many people in a theater size venue, but these folks all seemed happy to have us there. I love the Black Box at Williams Center and hope to be back soon.

The space apparently hosted everything from movies to musical acts to comedy and more. The "Black Box" room was an intimate, open rectangle next to a more formal theater space with tiered row seating. There were merch tables and two bars set up around the perimeter with general admission standing room in the center leading up to the stage. The sound quality was spectacular, and it was nice to be right in the middle of the action. I would definitely see another show there.
