As for my favorite brewery in Summit County, I'm really torn between Broken Compass and Outer Range. Outer Range wins me over for my love of NE IPAs, but Broken Compass has a much wider range of styles for all tastes. The Ginger Pale is my go-to, and the husband loves the Chili Pepper Pale. They make a lot of fun, experimental and nitro ales that are on limited release. The Peach IPA that was released late last summer was incredible- probably the best peach beer I've ever had. The space is a little small and is definitely a "locals" spot, but the staff is friendly and attentive to all. read more

Nice atmosphere. Friendly staff. Food truck was leaving as we arrived at 18:45. We ordered a GINGER PALE ALE and STRAWBERRY RHUBARB HEFEWEIZEN first. Flavor was ehh on both, 2/5. I was stepping outside of my comfort zone and decided to try different styles but cannot say I was blown away. The employee recommended the STH stating it was comparable to a Blue Moon. Nope. Unable to sample due to pandemic but I tried a mini WESTY G. IPA for $3. Wish I would've gotten a glass of that instead because it was delicious hence the four - would've been a three star rating otherwise. Oh and cute glasses! read more

Just visited Broken Compass Brewing for the second time. Their new tap room layout is really neat and comfortable to sit and have a few drinks. The beer is fantastic. I highly recommend the Coconut Porter, IPA, or the double IPA. There is some pretty cool merch you can buy too. The bartenders are very knowledgeable and polite. The owners/brewers are great guys to talk to and they are happy to make friends with clients. Broken Compass is a MUST stop for us when we're near Breck. read more

There weren't a ton of places on vacation that were super close to our Airbnb but we found this brewery and it was fun! We had cards and pulled a few chairs up to a table to play. The guy working was friendly and seemed to enjoy having our group come in on a slow weekday around lunch time. They gave us some stickers for free which was a nice addition to their great beer! If I were in Breckenridge again I'd definitely make a stop here! read more

I was super impressed with this place. These guys are making some great brews up in the mountains. Most people go to the Breckenridge brewery which serves average brews, but this place puts out some amazing craft brews across the entire palette. Warning that the place gets crowded on weekends, so you may have to stand or wait for a chair. Good news is it is dog friendly, so you will get to pet some cute pups. They don't serve food, but they have snacks like microwave popcorn, or you can bring in your own food. I like the chair lifts in the seating area as well. read more

Great beer. Great Vibe. Dogs everywhere. 5 Stars. Out of all the breweries we visited on our trip this might have been my favorite. I enjoyed the small community focused feeling here. On the evening we came they were doing a Monday night potluck and even those of us who were visitors were welcomed to join. I think everyone had brought their dog in that evening, it was just one big happy bunch of humans and canines enjoying the night. If I lived here I could easily see this brewery becoming my regular hang out spot. The beer you ask? The Coconut Porter was pretty outstanding. Sweet nutty and warm with lots of toasted coconut flavor. With a low ABV this was a nice smooth easy drinking beverage. Most of their beers were really solid including the Chocolate Coffee Stout, the Barrel-Aged Imperial Brown and the Ginger Pale. Ski lift cable for tap handles & seating, great views, friendly service, impressive beer made this spot a great place to just be. We'll be back. read more

This is one of my favorite places BUT I could not believe they charge $10 for a 10 oz pour. Locals will find another brewery. One that won't over charge a local! Living down the street, I used to be a big fan of this brewery - thus why I'm updating a past review. It's dog friendly, good beer, and casual vibe. But the past several visits have included several off leash dogs that are running around, jumping, and confrontationally meeting my dog and me at the front door without any owners looking after them or being nearby, which is pretty overwhelming for both me (I have a torn ACL and these are not small dogs) and my pup. If you've been there, you know that there's not much space for dogs jumping around if you want to, for example, walk to the bathroom. Still giving it two stars, because I like the vibe and the staff. But, at this point it feels like a lawsuit waiting to happen that I'd rather not be a part of. Nowadays, I much prefer a casual beer at RMU or somewhere similar that's dog friendly and down the street. read more

Been coming to for years while in the county. It's obvious the secret is out that the best beer in Breck is in a industrial Park on the outskirts of town. Soak in a cool CO vibe with the views, staff and pack of dogs running around. We frequent the place daily on ski trips and love the beer and staff. Kids love the games and playing with the dogs. Have to try the Coconut Porter and Chili Pale Ale. They don't have a bad beer on tap. Get a growler fill to take the flavor home with you! Cool micro brewery. Three or four IPAs to choose from. I had the DIPA Snow Blind. Soooo good. Then I had the IPA Solar Exposure. Very good but I prefer more pine and less citrus. They allow dogs inside so we grabbed some Subway sandwiches and had a nice lunch with our dogs and a couple craft brews. Great way to spend Sunday lunch. Every time I'm near Breckenridge I have to stop at Broken Compass! They have the best Coconut Porter I've ever had. I usually get a flight because they always have a couple of great beers to try, like their ginger pale ale. They have a small patio on the side, although there is a lack of shade. These guys are doing it RIGHT! Incredible line-up of solid beers for all tastes. Cool space, though I fear they're going to outgrow it because seating is somewhat limited. And wait, did I mention the beer!? I ran a flight of six beers, and each one was awesome. Solid flavors, and each one tasted as you'd expect them to. Unsurprising, my favorites were their chocolate coffee stout and coconut porter- out of this world! Smooth, the flavors were well-balanced but noticeable, and downright delicious brews. Their chili pale ale was tasty, though according to my drinking companions has way more chili flavor than a previous batch they tasted a few weeks ago. Their Helles was light, refreshing and the perfect beer for a summer day. I'm not an IPA fan, but theirs I dislike less than other IPAs, and is the preferred beer for some of my drinking companions- apparently it's pretty good to them. They also had a Black IPA that was decent to me in spite of normally not liking IPAs. Most importantly though, every single one held their own! The space is full of character. They have a couple chairlift chairs as seating in addition to bench seating, plus few high top chairs and a few seats at the bar. And they use chairlift cable for their taps and foot rests at the bar, and other spots throughout. Love the Broken Compass theme and logo. Super pumped to have another incredible brewery in Colorado, and in Summit County no less. I am up in Summit County (Silverthorne) most winter weekends, and some summer weekends, and usually do not have much reason to be in touristy Breck, but this brewery will absolutely make me reconsider that. And I love that I don't have to drive into downtown Breck chaos to experience them. I highly recommend Broken Compass as totally worth the drive from Denver if you're a craft beer seeker like me! LOVED this place. Amazing beer, small homey atmosphere, and a friendly bartender, oh and also dog friendly. I tried the Irish Red which I though was nice and malty and super drinkable. My fiancé had the coffee IPA (which I tried of course) and thought the coffee flavor was nicely pronounced. He also had a raspberry habanero pale ale which was an awesome berry flavor with a slight heat on the back end. Perfectly balanced. The bartender was also super nice and chatted with us about things to do in the area. We would've bought some merch too (their logo is awesome) but they didn't have the size we wanted. Easily a 5-star brewery! My boyfriend and I were visiting Breckenridge from Denver, walked by the lines at the Breckenridge Brewery, saw the mediocre reviews, and decided to try something off the beaten bath. So glad we did. We sampled five different beers on our visit and each were able to stand on their own: Belgian Wit Irish Red Coconut Porter Ginger Pale Ale Double IPA Favorite? The coconut porter! I'm not usually one for dark beer but the flavor was so delicious. Almost a dessert beer. We overheard the owner talking to a local restaurant representative about using their ovens to toast the coconut. They take this seriously. Second was the ginger pale ale. Real ginger flavor and still easy to sip. We almost walked out with a growler but for some reason convinced ourselves against it. I think mostly because we couldn't imagine sharing it with others. Also - games, dogs, snacks and good apparel. This place beats many popular Denver beer spots. Go! read more

Very excited for Broken Compass!! They are right by the Breck airport parking lot where I usually park for skiing so this will be a frequent apres spot for me :) I came here on a nice warm summer day so I was in the mood for a more refreshing beer...so I got the helles and the wit. Both were great and really hit the spot. My friend got the stout and I had a taste of that - great as well. The interior of the brewery is designed very well and fits the area perfectly. Some old Breck ski chairs for seating, metal lift cable for tap handles (coolest ever?!), and metal lift cable for bar foot rests. Also the beetle kill pine is gorgeous. Cant wait to come back during ski season and try out their winter brews! read more

I love this place! After a long day of skiing this was exactly the environment we were looking for. It's not a huge place but it is comfortable. The bartender was really friendly and we had quick service. This place is really dog friendly which I love! Beers are a great price as well as extremely tasty. They don't have an actual kitchen on the inside of the brewery but there is a food truck outside and it was the bomb!!! Get the street taco grilled cheese and the loaded fries! I was in heaven! We stopped into Broken Compass because of the high rating on Yelp and we weren't disappointed... As I've mentioned in many of my other reviews of breweries, I'm not much of a drinker but my guy really loves good beer. Also, as I have mentioned in previous reviews, I still tend to find many breweries relaxing and wonderful. Broken Compass fits into this group of reviews. Mike really liked the beers that he tried and found that the IPA these brew-masters have thought up is his favorite one. This is noteworthy as Mike is not at all a fan of IPAs. He also really liked their Chili Pepper Pale Ale. Unfortunately they were sold out of a few of their most popular beers while we were in town (most unfortunately the Coconut Porter). I guess we'll just have to come back... Daniel was our go-to guy for any questions we had about this awesome brewery. He was super friendly and fun to chat with. He even encouraged us to bring our little beagle in to hang out. There is a resident dog who is super handsome and fluffy but a few other dogs showed up during our visit and it actually made for a pretty entertaining evening to have them all playing and milling around. Just a few more odds and ends... We love the logo of Broken Compass. The T-shirts they sell are incredibly soft. They are not in downtown Breck but are instead outside of the city. Super relaxed atmosphere where people go to just hang out and drink good beer. We can't wait to come back! read more

Well yes, this is just as good as it gets! I'm glad our friends have been hounding us to try this place out. "Try the coconut porter", they've said. Yes, the coconut porter is pretty bomb AND so are almost all of their other beers (according to my taste buds). My love and I got a flight of 8. We basically loved 7 out of the 8 that we tried. You really CANNOT go wrong. Usually our flights are a mix of good, decent, and not so good. With each one, we kept saying "MMM that's good!" This is unusual but it happened! The helles, coconut porter, pale ale, all really done well. The only critique I would give is that the brown is wasn't so much a brown ale because it lacked the hoppy flavors that brown ales usually have. And the black IPA just wasn't impressive. Otherwise, it was almost a sweeping win. And damn, that coconut porter was lip-smacking delicious. I don't think I'm one to say I love coconut, but this was done well and tastefully so. I wish they'd open up a location in Denver so I could have it all the time! It would make a nice dessert.. read more

Damn, how did I forget to review Broken Compass?!?!? By far the BEST brewery in the area - worth the trip a little bit out of town for these delicious brews. That being said, you can take the drive just about five minutes from downtown Breck, however, if you're planning on boozing hard you can call up a FREE shuttle service that will transport you back and forth (yay). After a day of skiing we were in need of some beers and a friend had suggested that this was the place to be (they were right)! The brewery isn't too big, but it has a fun layout with ski lift inspired seating and huge windows to brighten the place up. My fiancé and I got a sampler of all the beers they were currently pouring (YOLO). By far the best was the coconut porter, they were at the time selling it in bottles (i think this only happens a couple times a year). I love a good porter in the winter and this was crazy good. Can't recall the other beers we sampled, but there was a great variety of styles and each was equally as amazing. No food, but you are welcome to bring your own. Dog friendly, kid friendly, and there are a couple of board games for fun. Can't wait to come back here on my next ski trip in town. cheers. read more
