I was recently admitted to this hospital (my very first time), but few minutes before my discharge, I had a terrible encounter with one of the nurses. I called the patient relations dept to report the unprofessional and unethical attitude of this nurse - Kris A. (hopefully, that is her real name, because she lied to me when I asked for her name, I had to ask another nurse). I am hoping it will be resolved, otherwise, I am going to officially take this matter up. Nurses are expected to be professional and compassionate, apparently, this particular one gave a bad name to the body, and most importantly, to the hospital. read more

The Doctor's and nurses are wonderful people, and seem to care about your well being. This review is about central scheduling and making any kind of appointment. If you leave a message they might get back with you in a day or two, if you want to schedule an appointment good luck, they will either tell you to go to the ER or you can't get in for a month or two. Why would I go to the ER when the doctor's at my location are more than capable, and won't charge me an arm and a leg. My daughter was in serious pain and was looked at by a doctor who was very kind and polite (thank you). The Doctor said she wanted an ultrasound while the gland was swollen, unfortunately we tried schedule the appointment and two days passed and no contact, called numerous times before getting ahold of someone and was put on hold for 45 minutes just to be told the other office is not answering and must have gone home. Ridiculous!!! Now her swelling is down and there is no need for the ultrasound because central scheduling can't get their stuff straight. Where can I put in a complaint to the actual manager of central scheduling? read more

I recently had an ENT appointment with Dr Leslie Steven Szeles. I was very disappointed in how my visit went. I felt I was definitely not something the doctor wanted to be dealing with at the moment. He barely asked me any questions, not even if I were ok with his intern being in the room. I felt very vulnerable and he rushed me out very quickly after feeling my neck be looking in my ears. I even had to suggest maybe a blood test to which he replied... sure we could do that and then end of appointment and there is what 250.00 gets you. I will not be returning to him. read more

I went into the Bronson ER in the meddle of last week. I had been having back pain, which had spread to my abdomen. After doubling over in pain at work, my family doc said I needed to get checked out ASAP. The ER staff was professional and timely. They did not allow me to just sit and wait the day away like many ER's do. But this has always been my experience with the Bronson ER, which is why I choose to go there - we have 2 large hospitals in town. The nurses were very attentive to both my wife and I. Although I was in a great deal of pain, they stayed positive and tried to keep me happy and comfortable. It is nice being cared for by medical staff who enjoy their work. Their enthusiasm for their work shines through in the care one receives. The time in the ER progressed quickly as different tests were ordered. After a CT scan, I was notified by the attending doctor that a surgeon from the group I had surgery with 16 months ago had been called in to consult on the scan's results as they did not look good, and were somewhat confusing. Once he arrived and reviewed the scan, he met with my wife and I and informed me the scan was very odd and unique in his experience. I knew where this was going. Then he said it, "emergency surgery." I have complete trust in Dr. Verseman's group. Dr. Verseman did my gastric bypass surgery 16 months ago and the level of competency and professionalism of everyone in his group was, and continues to be, truly amazing. If Dr. Rohs here was telling me he needed to operate, then I had no reservations about its necessity. As had been my experience thus far, the surgery prep and procedure itself was thorough, caring, and expertly done. Dr. Rohs informed my wife and I completely on what he would be looking to accomplish with the surgery, the need for the procedure, timing, recovery, everything. Once the papers were signed, I was whisked away for the procedure. I remember getting warm blankets on me and Dr. Rohs' friendly conversation while putting them on me himself. Then it was lights out. While I was in surgery, the staff stayed in constant communication with my wife with regular status updates. They did not simply let her sit and worry. I was the patient they were billing the insurance for. They did not get to bill extra for keeping my wife informed or calm with regular updates. They just simply did that as caring, compassionate medical professionals. I am truly grateful for that! I awoke right on time and without a bit of the usual nausea that anesthetic gives me. That was nice. There was a nurse attending to me waiting for me to awaken. The normal floor I was to be on was full. Instead of making me wait in recovery for hours for the possibility of an open room, they had secured a room one floor up. It was a different type of recovery, but they made arrangements for me so I didn't have to sit in recovery all day and my friends and family could start visiting. Now, everything had gone well to this point. The only thing left was the recovery aspect. That would depend mostly on the nursing professionals of this recovery floor. Anyone who has been in the hospital for an extended period knows the nursing staff can make or break a stay. Well, I am pleased to be able to review these nurses and exemplary examples of the nursing professional! I was in the hospital for four days and I didn't have a single bad, rude, unprofessional, short, or grouchy nurse. I have two friends who are nurses at this hospital and I am pleased to know their positive attitudes and depth of medical expertise is not unique to them. My nurses not only did their jobs well, but they were down right friendly while doing so. They were a constant form of encouragement. They made me laugh and smile, which we all know is helpful to the recovery process. They did not make me feel self-conscious during procedures that exposed me. They celebrated those little milestones you hit after surgery - like when your kidneys kick back in and you can go to the restroom on your own. Clapping and cheers were heard when milestones were reached. It was a truly positive environment in which to heal. At the end of their shift, the nurse and PCA would come into my room and greet me one last time and tell me they'd see me when they came back on shift or that they wouldn't be back for a few days and wish me a speedy recovery. The medical staff at Bronson does work with compassion and caring. They do their work with a smile on their face. They do things that they cannot bill your insurance for just to make you and your loved ones more comfortable. That going above and beyond - doing something solely for the benefit of others that you will receive no benefit from. That's the level of care one receives at Bronson. And that's why the next time I need medical care, I will once again be at Bronson Hospital. And if I need surgery again, I'll be calling on Dr. Verseman's group to perform the procedure. They're an unbeatable team. read more

So I have a family of nurses so this is hard for me to write. It also took me a full day to decide to do it. I do understand that I had the option to speak with her superior that day but as I said I come from a family of nurses. I actually wanted to call the police at the time but was talked down by one of those nurses. My son went in for an emergency surgery on Sunday August 9th. He is bi polar, oppositional defiant disorder, with cluster b traits. No picnic to be around for me. Well I was in a horrible head on collision as the passenger in a vehicle going upwards of 50 mph. I was just released from almost a week in a trauma unit for fluid on my brain, a broken sternum, and a crushed t-12 vertebrae that very nearly paralyzed me but instead has me strapped to a life vest looking brace for 4 months. My son was being horrible to me and insinuating that I wasn't there and he could have died when in actuality I was flat on my back medicated beyond belief completely on my own with no way to get to him. This nurse walks into this. Between the horrible way my son was speaking to me I was trying to relay to this nurse that my son was lying and exaggerating. She just kept getting ruder and ruder. I told her I'd just been released from the hospital and why. My son just kept ranting while I was in severe pain with a migraine from hell because of the injury to my brain. This nurse started to get my sons bed ready and this is where I get upset. I was sitting next to his bed and she snapped at me "you need to move", ok not nice but then she decided it was ok to use her legs to just shove my legs out of her way. It took everything I had not to scream in agony. I was finally able to stand up and as she was pulling my son out of the room I said "hold on he still has a chord wrapped around his bed" she then actually snapped at me very rudely "no there isn't" and yanked his bed away from me. Well I'm normally a super meek, nice person and never even return food that not right in restaurants but I had had enough of this treatment so I yelled at her. I told her "quit fucking talking to me like that". (Sorry for my language) I then told the nurse I met around the corner as I was leaving, crying my eyes out, about what had just happened. Later I told the doctor who said the nurse said something different. Of course she did, and of course if I called the police they would have done nothing, they work with these doctors and nurses everyday. Remember I have a family full of nurses. I did ask if there were cameras because they would be able to see what she did and that I wanted to call the police. No help at all and I just wanted out of there so I got my son after surgery and left. I love Bronson and know this is not typical treatment. The rest of the staff was great. But I hope that nurse finds out just how badly she hurt me. read more

Been here almost 2 weeks with my son and I've asked for transfers multiple times and have been refused. When I ask to speak to a doctor they send the nurse practitioner. Michigan Law under the Public Health Act 368 of 1978 333.20201 states that I have the right to speak to the doctor when I request it and so far I've just been waiting. Last time it took me filing a Federal complaint with the US Dept of Health and Human Services before I saw a doctor to look over his charts after a NP said I couldn't see it and was rude about transferring him saying nobody will take him (without even calling to see). Please parents stay far away from here! I'm over an hour drive away and try to stay with him as much as possible but I'm willing to be transferred over 3 hours away so that he can receive the care that he needs. I've called patient relations and messaged them via FB and get the same we'll call you back and no follow through. They refuse to do tests that could rule out his vomiting and are definitely not baby or family friendly. They lied saying parents can stay in the room with the newborn and then after birth said we couldn't. When I pointed it out they got upset and tried to change their webpage which said otherwise. Good thing I took a screenshot beforehand. Going to call my attorney to have him force a transfer as the standard of care is a direct violation of due process and my son's right to life and liberty. I will be calling OCR when they open to open a complaint against them and file a lawsuit with the US District Court for deprivation of civil rights. They got the right one because I didnt go to school for BA/MS in Criminal Justice for nothing. They're going to feel this one! read more

worst customer service ever. walked into emergency and seen the angry hateful look on the Bronson employees and left to go to Borgess. did rehab with Bronson, they over charged me, I made payment arraingements and they still put me in collections. I was in the emergency room on Sunday 8/5/2018, with my son. The doctor on duty was very loud and kept mentioning a condition that my son has, which I thought was very rude. Since it had nothing to do with what he was there for, I thought patient information was supposed to be private. I was not happy at all when we left. read more

My mother was brought into the emergency room for emesis, difficulty swallowing, and thoracic pain. She was admitted to a room before her friend that drove even got in from the car. Everyone was quick to help. Even the head of the ER during that shift, Dr. McCoy, made time to talk with everyone and reassure the hospital would do everything for her. I would recommend this hospital to anyone in the Kalamazoo area. read more

First of all this is THE worst emergency service I've ever seen. The staff was downright awful making rude smart remarks to my boyfriend who had alcohol poisoning. They had no idea how to handle the situation without being rude & his belongings were given to them & they lost his wallet & released him without it. Now we have to go back again tomorrow to retrieve it. You're better off going to a walk in emergency center than dealing with the terrible hospital staff. read more

I had the displeasure of visiting Bronson ER in May. I cut my hand remodeling. The front desk staff were neither friendly nor unfriendly, mostly just apathetic. I was checked in and proceed to wait two hours to be seen. Once finally seen I was treated, but even that took 45 minutes to get my hand glued and get a shot that I declined but was given anyway. The real kicker is, a month later I get a bill from the hospital for $548. When I call the hospital billing department and wait on hold for 25 minutes, I find out the front desk lady didn't enter in any of my information properly from my insurance card, not even my name! Overall, do not go there unless you feel that you might die, because it is likely to take half your day for no good reason. read more

I took my 75 year old mother there after she had fallen. Her face was covered in blood as was her hand. Now, she is a tough old lady who has had six children, so she wasn't displaying a lot of pain. They did do an xray on her hand (bone broken) and splinted it until I could get her to a bone and joint facility. However, they did not even bother to clean the facial wounds (broken nose) or the wound that they covered with the soft cast. Luckily, she has no other health problems like diabetes. The wound on her hand was infected and the gravel and stones had worked their way out but given the circumstances, I will be taking her to Borgess. My dog would have gotten better care at the vets. read more

I took my daughter in to the ER yesterday for a persistent cough. And Dr. Wright said that they had see a lot of viral long lasting coughs come through lately with kids. To be in the safe side she ordered an x-ray. I am so thankful that she did, my daughter has pneumonia and that x-ray was the only way to know. Our Nurse who had just started her shift RN Rineveld was great too. We were there from check in to check out for 3 hours but they were very busy, so frankly I'm surprised we were out that fast. They may very well have saved her life so I don't mind the wait at all. They do need better ER parking though that is a nightmare, and a sick child and the 5 min hail storm yesterday right after I parked finding parking when your sick or have a very sick child should not be this hard. read more

Bronson is a great hospital with one exception: physical therapy. The problem is not the quality but the cost. We recently had physical therapy experiences with both Bronson Hospital and PT One in Kalamazoo. Both gave excellent therapy but the costs at PT One were a fraction of the costs at Bronson for the same services. We complained to BCBS and their response was that while they recognized that Bronson was more expensive, they had a contract with Bronson to pay the extra costs. Since PT One also takes insurance, there is no question where we will go in the future. Going to Bronson for physical therapy is a waste of money. Kudos to PT One for helping to contain healthcare costs! read more

I went in for a total hip replacement by Dr. Roehr on Monday Jan !4 came home on Weds, Jan 16. The entire expierence upon entering the surgical portion on second floor until I left the in patient unit on first floor was a 10 on a scale of one to ten with 10 being the best.
